first time flashing ROM, have a few questions. please help! - Touch Pro2, Tilt 2 Themes and Apps

Hi all,
I am gonna hard SPL my tilt 2 for the first time. Well, this will be the first time ever that im flashing rom onto my phone. And after reading the "[Resources] Flashing your First GSM Rhodium Rom (For Noobs)" post, I have a few questions:
1. when it says *DO NOT let the Screensaver activate*
what does that mean? does it mean do not let it go to standby? or let the screen shut off to save battery?
2. It says "Download HardSPL package from *HERE* and extract to an empty folder"
does it mean to download the hardSPL package and extract to a folder on my phone or on my computer?
3. it says "NEW: Internet access is required as the program checks online for updates and license"
have internet on my phone or on my computer?
4. "Run Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe on PC, make sure it's launched from a local drive (not through network drive, etc.). XP requires Admin logon and Vista/Windows 7 will automatically prompt to allow it to run in Admin mode, allow it. If you get an AntiVirus warning please ignore it, it contains no harmful code (just used a packer to compress it)"
I dont get this step at all, are we to open the hardspl_V2_00R3.exe file on my computer or open it on my phone??
Thanks in advance for replies.

1. Don't let screensaver activate on your computer...no screensaver, no hibernation
2.Download to your computer (i dl to my desktop) and then extract it to its own folder
3.Have internet on your computer
4.Just run the file that you get as a result of the extraction in step 2. Make sure ur the main user of your computer (admin).
Thats all. dont think to much into it cuz the directions can be wordy.

"Download to your computer (i dl to my desktop) and then extract it to its own folder"
do u you to extract it to its own folder on your computer? and then drag and drop that extracted folder into your phone somewhere? and then open and run the file like how u would open and run an app?
or can i just download the file to my desktop and then drag the file into my phone. And then extract it in my open and run it like an app?
Thanks

Just be sure to know if your Rhodium is GSM or CDMA so you can flash the proper version for you

Maybe you should reread the threads that explain flashing. It really is a simple process. I can understand your first set of questions but they were answered very simply and clearly. You may want to consider leaving your phone stock if you can't figure out these basic ideas. Sorry, not trying to be mean, but most people start out learning how to flash by reading and simply executing.

Yes, pardon me for being naive. I know I may be asking some really basic stuff, but this is my first WM phone and i was never really good with computers or a "technology" guy.
I have read the post twice and believe me, I don't have any reading comprehension problems. I guess you can say I am being extra cautious because tilt 2 was a big purchase for me and I don't want to risk any permanent damages on the phone (not too sure if improper flashing would damage the phone).
Anyhow, if you had took the time to read my questions, you will know there is some ambiguity in the steps.

I have not flashed my phone before, but I have been thinking about it and I have read the directions. To answer your question about extracting the folder, it sounds like you extract the folder to your computer somewhere (desktop is fine) and then you run the file (Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe) as an admin on your computer.
You do not transfer anything to your phone, the Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe file you run will do everything for you.
To run Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe as an admin, if you are using vista or windows 7 you can right-click on Rhodium-HardSPL_V2_00R3.exe and select, 'Run as Administrator'. For windows XP, you must have an administrator account that you are currently logged into.
hope that helps, and good luck!

This page helped me out a lot, with my Tilt 2.

I am a noob too. What I did was practice with my old TP after I got the new TP2. I built up my confidence before tackling the new one.

That is correct 90% of the time. There is a way to install from the MicroSD card and a few ROM's that use this method. If you see one of these ROMS as a noob flasher, just move on to another for now. Not that there is more risk with those ones, it just adds some unneeded complexity for a noob.

flashing is so simple.
it's so simple, in fact, that you're going to be doing it every 10 minutes - just because you can - and you'll even look back at how much you lacked in knowledge that you'll think you were retarded...
**speaking from experience here.
Look, once you start flashing, just shut the eff up and dont do anything. dont even move your mouse (even though you can... meh) but just relax. have a beer. i assure you, it isnt brain surgery.

No guide on the RUU? Download link?

So... I've somehow screwed up recovery, and now adb won't do anything... it connects (adb devices shows my serial#)...
Im tired of dianosing it, I just want to use the RUU and flash back to factory, and re-root.
Problem is, with the lack of modding around here... there's no sticky or link. It was somewhat difficult to find info on flashing back to factory status. Searching here, AndroidForums, and google.
The exe I downloaded starts to go through installshield and then does nothing. (the filename is RUU_Hero_C_Sprint_1.29.651.1_signed_release.exe)
My computer is XP Home
what am I doing wrong?
That's the right file. So you run it, and you see installshield come up but then it never opens the window to walk you through starting your actual restore? Sounds like you have an issue with your computer too then.
check your drivers, reinstall if necessary.
if no go, barrow a computer and try it from there. I've found WinXP to be the easiest system to mod the Hero from (prolly because of my comfort with command line interface)

I can second this advice. I tried to run the .exe from a Win7 machine unsuccessfully. It would partially initiate the recovery process but then close itself after trying to detect the phone. In WinXP, the process was successful on the first attempt. If you don't have access to an XP machine, perhaps try starting the .exe as XP compatibility mode? You can right-click on the file and go to Properties to find those options.
This is a XP machine...
I can run adb devices and see the phone... and in fastboot usb the phone does show up device manager.

[Q] odd problem with my P3400

Hi...
I have p3400 gene .... I really want my phone to upgrade to WM6.1proffesional
So, I tried the the guide available here at xda-develpors [GUIDE] Step by Step Guide for Upgrading P3400 and P3400i ROM + FAQs
Now, My phone is dead ... when I press the power button ... the red and green button blink once and nothing else happen
I tried the Power+camera and a screen with 3colors appear (red, green, blue) with these writing on it ...
ONLP 1.10.0000
SPL 1.10.olip
my S/N is HT8xxxxxx.
I have widows 7 on my computer so I tried :
I did [Step 2: Preparing your phone] successfully
then in step 3
You need to take these steps :
1. Go to desktop, right click Computer, and select Manage. Go to Device Manager. Now under the section Mobile Devices, Double Click : Smartphone USB Sync.
2. On the Drivers tab, click "Update Driver..." button. On next screen click : "Browse my computer for driver software".
3. Click : "Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computers". Click "Have Disk.." on next screen. Click "Browse..." and go to the folder extracted in step 1. There, go to USBDriverforActiveSyncVista folder. Here select the file "wceusbsh.inf" and click OK.
4. Click Next and finish the wizard.
Click to collapse
but when I select "wceusbush.inf" ... I get this error
HTML:
the folder you specified doesn't contain a copatible software driver for your device. If the folder contains a driver, make sure it is designed to work with windows for x64-based systems
I don't know how to solve it
and when I try the ROMUpdateUtility program ... I get [ERROR 300
when I tried Step 5: Use the Orefkov Unlocker
after opening the Mtty1_42.exe ... here are the problems
- I don't find the usb button
and when I click okay ... on the next screen ,,, the keyboard just doesn't work
only [delete] and [ctrl+v] nothing else works ...
P.S. I use the windows mobile device center on my computer to sync my info to my p3400
need help to solve the problem
I really want the WM6.1proffecional
and could any one give the best rom for it??? and will I have a touch flo problem afterwords ????
Please help A.S.A.P
come on guys ... The site of the best develepors and till now .... no answere
just so you get this solved as fast and smoothly as possible...lets just go through this step by step...
(i don't mean to sound rude but there's something you need to know before you start expecting miracles here, let me tell you...this site does indeed have an amazing lot of people who have spent countless amount of time working on and with their phones...but not everyone has the time to log in everyday and keep a track of the infinite number threads they might be following...and even when they do log in and read your problem, they might not necessarily have a solution for you at that time...
patience is the key...wait for someone to read, understand and then provide a solution for your problem, if it exists...this is a phone developers site...not one for magical cures
and most importantly...post your problems in the appropriate threads...like this one should've been in the Q&A thread in the ROM development section...or in the upgrading thread itself...you'd get more replies that way...you don't have to start new threads)
now...i read through your post where you've described your problem very nicely...and i couldn't see where you've tried running the olipro patch...
but since you can see SPL as 1.10.olip in bootloader mode i'm assuming you tried that...
now if the phone is bricked then it probably means you phone is the new gene...
all you have to do is run mtty exactly as it is explained in the thread...you just have to get the driver given in the tools zip file...
as you mentioned that you've tried setting the driver and it didn't work...
you can try 2 things...
1> try running the same procedure from step 3 onwards on someone else's computer/laptop...(this is somethings others have mentioned working for them)
2> uninstall and reinstall windows mobile device center to get the default drivers for your phone on your comp...start your phone in bootloader mode by holding down the camera button while restarting the phone...now when you have the tricolour screen on, connect it to your comp via usb...
after your comp detects the device, open device manager and try updating the driver (download the tools zip file again just to be sure)...
after updating driver, the mtty should run perfectly...make sure you do everything in step 5 100% correctly...read the instructions over and over again just to be sure...(this is the method that worked for me...but again, as you will read everywhere here, be sure to do it correctly...no one on this site is responsible for any problems you'll have with your device)
if you have any doubts or problems in getting it to work...post it up in detail like you've done here
Sorry .. my bad
BUT like I said ... I am a complete newbie here
I wanted to ask ... should I repost my problem in the Q&A or will the moderator move it
I will try it on other computer ....
thanx for your help
yes, I actually used Step 4: Use the Olipro method first.
thats why bootloader mode is on ...
but after that comes the problem
since the drivers seem to be buggy with the x64 windows 7 just try running everything from step 5 onwards carefully...AFTER you have changed the appropriate drivers first as mentioned in step 3...
do these things on someone else's computer/laptop with a 32-bit os (x86)
i'm running the 32-bit windows 7 and i can assure you it works for both newgene and oldgene perfectly...
so next few things for you to do-
1> borrow someone's comp
2> install windows mobile device center (active sync for xp users)
3> start phone in bootloader mode and connect it via usb
4> locate it in device manager
5> change drivers for the device
6> continue from step 5 in the upgrading thread
hope it works...good luck
Problem solved .... thanx man ... thanx

[Q] Ubuntu on my home pc... flashing android from it

Hello,
Ive been on this site for some time now and have flashed countless roms from windows roms, sd android and now, of course, nand roms. I have always had windows on my home pc, but after the experience of going from windows to android, I started looking for something better for my home pc. I ended up wiping windows from my computer and installed Ubuntu, which is smooth, fast and I love it. However, one thing has me stumped. I cant figure out how to get the tools, ex. SYNC, installed on my computer. I am trying to use WINE to accomplish this... anyway, im not an expert, but if someone could just give me a little help, I would appreciate it!!!
I hope i opened this in the right place...
I dont think I need the SYNC program, but when I try to use the DFT flash program, ubuntu says it cant be opened... I dont want to use microsoft windows anymore... help me obi wan...
VirtualBox and install a Windows image. That should probably work.
Not sure about sync, but for flashing, http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=611433
quote
- Take any "RUU_signed.nbh" from a ship ROM and copy it to SD card.
- Rename it to "leoimg.nbh"
- Reset the device while pressing the volume down button.
Although you probably know about this already

HTC Drivers will not install

Hi folks,
I have a HTC Mytouch 4g that I cannot get connected to my PC. It charges through the USB cable but I cannot get the computer to recognize it. I have tried to install the HTC Drivers but they get partially into the install and it just stops and the install wizard disappears. I have run the driver install as an administrator too. I even tried installing PDaNet but failed because it would not install without recognizing the phone. I got HTC Sync to install but it does not recognize the device. Looking for some help. Thanks!
My mytouch connects to any pc without a problem or drivers installed. From phone settings go to connect to pc. Choose a default USB connection or have the device ask you every time its connected.

I may be mistaking... but I'm pretty sure if you go into settings>applications>development> and check the USB Debugging box. Once you do that, you should have the option to "Mount as disk drive." I believe that's what I had to do to get ALL of the drivers successfully installed.
Hope this helps.
You always have the option to mount as disk drive. These are 2 separate USB functions - one is ADB debugger over USB, the other is the regular phone functionality. HTC drivers should be installed regardless of those selections. You don't need to enable USB debugging for that.

I remember having an issue with the drivers installation when I first rooted my phone. 3/4 drivers showed up as installed, but not one that had to go through windows update or something like that... it was a while ago. You're right... it didn't have anything to do with disk drive... If I remember correctly, all drivers didn't install correctly because USB debugging wasn't turned on.
Sorry about that.
This works ...

Hi,
Had many headaches myself with the latest offering of HTC Sync as the USB driver just wouldn't install ... however, this worked for me so it may be worth you trying:
A. Run HTC Sync setup until you reach the error regarding the drivers - DO NOT CLICK YES OR NO - leave it open (closing allows it to remove its temporary file... and we need them!)
B. Click Start - Run - %temp%\
C. Locate a folder that looks a bit like this: {0C8CBEC2-7B62-4ABC-9CB3-8CCAC7CD3D62}.The name will be different, but it will have the layout using A-F and 9-0, within that folder will be another similarly named folder, To make locating this folder easier, select view>details and sort the contents by date, the folder will have today’s date. In this folder locate the file named HTCDriver_4.0.0.009_20121107.exe; copy this file out to your desktop.
D. Close the HTC sync installer that you left open earlier, now run this HTCDRIVER file you just moved from you temp folder.
E.This installation will also come up with an error - AGAIN DO NOT CLOSE the window.
F.Click Start - Run - %temp%
G.Locate a similarly named folder in your %temp% folder, (you do not need to go into a subfolder as there is not one), there will be a file named HTCDriver.msi, copy this out and close the other installer.
H. You can now run HTCDriver.msi and the driver will install
I.Once this has installed, run the original HTC Sync or Sync Manager installation file. This will now run uninterrupted as the drivers are already installed and it will skip this stage.
I hope your issue is solved.

...wow.
That's one way to get around installer incompatibilities, I guess. Are all the people who are affected running Windows 8? I was having similar problems, and I can't remember how I eventually got around it (UND? Didn't care about HTC sync in the first place?)

You need Windows Mobile Device Centre (or ActiveSync, depending whether you're on XP or Win7). You'd also need to have HSPL installed in order to be able to update your radio.
You know what, since you're a real noob , just download an official winmo rom (must be latest version 3.14) and follow the instructions, and it will automatically install the latest radio. (I think you'd need WMDC or ActiveSync here as well.)

Windows mobile device center is software not Operating system, do googling a little from where and which version is for you.
Also you can try to install htc sync software if windows mobile device center doesn't help.
You are installing this so that your device can be recognised from pc when you are in bootloader.
Hd2 forum section have alot guides post.
You need to start using search button and reading posts on hd2 forum whole or under android section.
Why im saying this... When you start using hd2 in new way like flashing new radio or hspl.
Yoully be constantly confused what happens with your hd2 or how to do something which allready written multiple times on forum.
And lets not forget if you dont know what are you doing, you can screw up your phone.
There isnt easy solution except searching hd2 forum reading and reading.
As posted above, searching and reading will inevitably let you find all of the answers you're looking for. Also, when a guide says install x, y or z and lists it as a compulsory step, don't question it. Just do it. It will seriously save you a tonne of effort (as will using the search button) in the future.
