Hi all,
First post and all that, so hi! I've been lurking for a few days, but thought i'd post this as a) I might be doing something wrong, and b) if i'm not, it might help someone..
Basically, I installed ozVGA last night, and it turned my exec into a nice-looking, albeit ineffective doorstop.
I may have done this completely wrong, let me know if i did, as i really would like a 640x480 res
This is what i did:
1. I had upgraded my exec to the latest ROM released by o2.
2. I downloaded ozVGA from http://oz.sciox.org/
3. I followed the instructions on the above URL.
a) "unzip this file VgaRes.zip and put its contents to the \windows directory"
b) After that you will need to unzip this file OzVGA053.zip and place OzVGA.exe file wherever you want on your PDA
4. I launched ozVGA
5. I pressed the ozVGA button, it rebooted, the o2 bubbles screen with the red writing stating the ROM versions etc. appeared, and the SELECT and EXIT buttons were visible at the bottom. These were in the 640x480 resolution! Yey!
6. But...it stayed on that screen for a long, long time. It would not progress from that screen no matter what I tried, or how long i waited.
7. in the end, i had to do a factory reset, then install the new o2 rom again.
So... did i do something wrong :S I hope i did - as i would really like to have my exec in 640x480!
Cheers for any help
You need the VGA res files that are on the xda-developers ftp. The ones on the OzVGA site don't work IIRC.
You didn't need to install the ROM again. A normal hard-reset would have been fine.
Thanks for replying rilot.
Are the files you mention at the start of this thread?:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=32217
If so, they dont actually seem to be on the FTP site.
Also, in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=37448
"Soft resets result in it powering backon, but stopping at the boot screen, after displaying the ROM versions in red text. "
The poster also says: "I had just installed OzVGA, and was testing it when this occurred, but that is probably just a coincidence"
Do you think this could be related? Just wondering
Grab them here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/download.php?id=7513
I've never had any problem with running my Exec in VGA mode. I don't actually use OzVGA though. I hack the registry manually.
Those files bricked my m5000
I just downloaded the zip archive from your link, unzipped, copied the windows file folder contents to the windows folder on the spv m5000(orange switzerland), and the ozVGA.exe to the programs folder, then started the .exe.
Result: the well known imitation of a brick. The thing booted to the orange screen with the red version info, then stayed there with two buttons showing at the bottom of the screen. These buttons did show the small VGA font, but none of them caused anything to happen. Soft resets didn't help either.
A hard reset worked (without re-installing the ROM) and I'm now back to where I was before.
Has anyone with an orange device had any other(better) experiences with ozVGA?

Right, that's 2 deaths from ozvga... if this can be confirmed, is it worth adding a sticky on this forum or something?
Did you run the signing app (sdkcerts.cab) after coying the files?
If not, that's your problem.

ahh
it's not mentioned until the 3rd page http://forum.xda-developers.com/vie...der=asc&highlight=sdkcerts+cab+ozvga&start=50
which is why i didnt see it
Right then - before i try it again, is there a way to back up *everything* on my universal? So i dont have to go through the misery of setting everything up again if it goes wrong?

Sunnysoft's Backup Manager works well for me. But don't rely on restore from a backup after a ROM upgrade, since you will be overwriting those newly upgraded files with possibly older versions. Another useful trick for those difficult to configure apps, is a registry export.
As for the OzVGA glitch. Yep, the culprit is not running the signing app (sdkcerts.cab) after coying the files. Forgot to do this once myself, just at the end of re-installing everything after a ROM upgrade , so had to start again.

Weird enough, but after the hard reset, I tried again last night, and this time it worked. Beautiful VGA bliss on my m5000. A million thanks to the authors.
Now I can hardly wait for the international (german) version of vj555's BigPhone.
So just to check (before I end up hard resetting from not following instructions!) In the VGA files I downloaded from this thread, it contains ozVGA.exe, some files that need copying to my windows directory and sdkcerts.cab.
What order do I do things? I would first copy the windows files and the ozVGA.exe, then run the sdkcers.cab I take it i then need to soft reset. Where do I put ozVGA.exe? Does it just perform a registry hack or does it need to be placed in the Startup folder so it runs every time I soft reset?
Any help would be great!
Cheers
Fin
1. Copy files
2. Run SDKCerts.cab
3. Run OzVGA
4. Soft reset
OzVGA performs registry hacks so doesn't need to be placed in start-up.
Thanks for your help. Will try it tonight!

Stuck at Step1. None of .dlls or gifs that already exist can be overwritten!
2. I am able to copy SDKCerts.cab in the WIndows folder and run it.
Tried a soft reset as well. But still can not do the step 1.
Please advise.
to all,
look at new Helmi3.5 rom
ozvga is integratted
very easy to use and if necessary to revert back to qvga
Those who stuck at the boot screen, suspect that it is not properly install.
Only way out is hard reset, you will lose everything if you do not have the habit of backup.
You need to copy the *.96.* files into Windows directory. Think Windows hang when seaching for this files.

OzVGA v0.53
Noting the cumbersome method of installing/uninstalling OzVGA - I just decided to make a CAB Installer from the resources listed in this thread.
Also, given the fact that http://oz.sciox.org seems to be offline or maybe defaced, the attached archive might become even more relevant.
The attachment, OzVGA v0.53.zip, contains 2 CAB files:
1. OzVGA + DLLs
2. SdkCerts for DLLs
It's advisable to run the CABs in the order above.
Hello,
the procedures for liberating the shift does not work anymore on new editions of the shift:
When trying to run the application "liberate!" after doing the "trick" copying of the link, the message: "This application is not signed and is not allowed to run".
Futhermore when trying to run the registry application, the same message is shown: "This application is not signed and is not allowed to run".
Furthermore the application "USB Tool" cannot run because of the same above message.
We have tried to find out how to disable the signature checking algorithm, however we have not found a solution yet.
The shift is the current newest version of HTC Shift.
What to do then?
Regards,
Atommax
WHAT!
Are they outlawing and blocking our liberation attempts?!!
Geez, are they realy that uptight?
This sucks!
sorry misread your post atommax
martincyborg... yep I followed the procedure with doing the "insert picture" and saving the attachments in the my documents/settings folder... afterwards ctrl +x and ctrl + v the folder back to the /windows folder.
the icon for liberate came into the settings window, but when pressing it it said "application not signed, ... not allowed to run" ...
however we found out that if you do not copy the settings folder back to the windows folder, then when selecting settings in the snapvue today screen, the programs window comes up and you can e.g. select file explorer... however you cannot run the liberate app nor registry app cause not signed.. :-(
can somebody make a signed app of the liberate thing?
i get it. did you pm paul at modaco?
Try to insert this Disable Security.CAB into \Settings
together with the Liberty.cab
Run this cab first before running the Liberty.cab.
Hope this can work for your new Shfit!
oh f*ck htc. first the ATT unflashable radio, now this.
but of course we will investigate this more closely. can someone with this new shift version PM me? thank you.
Have you tried unlocking it via remote registry?
If it's not possible, you can always flash an old signed rom which does not have the protection.

You have to configure the e-mail in SnapVue side, it only works there. Did you follow the movie steps, all of them???
If yes, you are not told to open any files, only to save them...

Hi Everybody!
I should receive my 2nd hand HTC Diamond Touch today.
With all the mods, hacks and apps on this here forum, I was wondering what was the first thing you changed on your handset?
For me I will be unlocking the device and hoopefully the ROM.
Any suggestions as to what to mod/hack next?
{?
The ROM because the retail ROM sucks!
My New (to me) Diamond
Changed the ROM to shaks 4.30 topaz, installed touch HD weather app, Background4all, Transparent slider and Glass Clock V2. Oh yeah, and the changescreen rotation application for landscape mode.
Look around and experiment with what you like and works best for you. The forum's a wealth of information if you take the time to search!
tried all the newer roms out there, and so far, the quickest bug free ROM ive used is duttys v4....its quick, with loads of memory left...(see ROM link in my sig to go straight to the ROM)
then, i normally change the clock, the top curtain, and then the slider.

Very stable, I haven't had a problem yet. I've been heavily using it since yesterday and I haven't been able to find a bug or anything that bothers me yet.
You should try it, you will be amazed of how finger friendly it is!
Don't even get me started on how smooth it goes with scrolling!

I didn't get much time to play with my phone today. However, I have managed to de-brand and do a sim unlock. So for now, my spec reads:
ROM VERSION 1.37.405.1 WWE
RADIO VERSION 1.20 oliNex
PROTOCOL VERSION 52.26A.25.09H
I have tried to install a few apps, but failed. The "set up" files are all .XML and seem to open up in my browser????
{>
I think you didn't notice the .xml files are actually within the setup file.
The setups are .CAB files, you simply move them onto the internal storage and execute them within your mobile phone.
Have fun!
Hi,
Thanks for your reply.
Not sure what I am doing here?
I transfered the programs to the internal storage (my docs). However, there is no .cab file.
When I click on the program file, it either shows me a blank screen with the program name at the top or other folders e.g. open sensors or open GLES.
The programs I am trying to install are:
air horn
Diamond beer
htorch
WiFi monster

When you download a program for example Diamond Beer (http://www.freewarepocketpc.net/ppc-download-diamond-beer.html)
You will download a file called DiamondBeer2Installer-v0_1.cab
That is a CAB file. When you see that you copy it to the internal storage and run it from your mobile phone.
But sometimes (usually when it's made by real developers) you get a executable. Those are either to be run from your pc and with ur mobile phone hooked up using activesync. Or if it gives you an error when trying to execute it from your pc then most likely it's telling you that you aren't running windows mobile (means you're not running it from your mobile phone while you're supposed to), then it's the program itself (the actual and final .exe) and you will have to make a directory on your internal storage yourself and copy the .exe in there (No automated installation involved).
Sorry for the long and maybe senseless story but it's late here and I'm in a hurry.
Enjoy
Hello again and thanks for your patience!
I have downloaded said file. I used winzip to extract, then cut and paste the folder in my "internal storage" on my device.
Inside there are three folders:
_setup (which is the .xml file I was talking about earlier)
Diamon~1.000
Diamon~10001
When I click on the setup file, me device just goes to IE:
file:/internal%20storage/DiamonBeer2Installer-v_1/_setup.xml

I already read and tried it. The problem is there isnt a custome boot loader available for the DVP and you need the cab.pks files to be signed by microsoft.
FWIW - the File browser in DVP is a plain old binary/stream reader. All it does is just reads each byte by byte and is programmed to parse for folder and file. Hence, it's useful to read text file. It can also read any file for that matter (bascailly like opening a dll or anyfile with notepad) - as long as you have patience starring at the dark screen .
FYI - this filebrowser is there since 1.10FW.
This app is really useful if you know the exact path of the file you want to read. All u do is write a short code and make a dev app that will take input of a the path and just spit the contents of it. (i had one a while back, will dig and see if it works in Mango). Again you will get tombstoned by the MS security.
I'm in EM and click RD Test. I have a textbox. How do I get to the file browser? I entered 983 in there and nothing happened.
EDIT: Nevermind, you type in *#6336#
I need some help from a DVP AT&T user with mango and all that Jazz installed.

It will take a few seconds to a minute and download and install the touch explorer applicaiton. It should now conect to the application and show an image of the DVP on the desktop. If not turn off wifi, click "PC Connection" once (it will fail), hit cancel at the prompt and then turn WiFi back on. If you are connected to your home router we can connect over wifi to your desktop. Click on PC conneciton again and this time it might ask you for your computer's IP. Enter that and it should connect. Without closing the app now or letting the screen turn off go into WPDM and click on the File Explorer. Click on Windows and then find the EM.xap file. Attach it to a post here so I can see if the AT&T version is any different than the T-Mobile version. I doubt it is but who knows.
Here you go, from an unlocked AT&T device. Doubt it's any different.
Darn it looks the same. I was hoping for something new to exploit.
