Hello,
Since I've purchased my Samsung Galaxy S8, I've found it often does not sync until I open the app. Examples of apps effected are gmail, facebook messenger, google hangouts. Instead of notifying me of a new message or email, the phone does nothing. Until I open the gmail app, then it pops up 10 new emails or whatever that came in earlier in the day since the last time. Or until I open the Facebook messenger app, see it spin, say connected, and then however many messages I've missed since the last time I opened the app pop up. Same with google hangouts.
The phone runs fast, smooth - I'm not sure why it is doing this. My sync settings are set to automatic and it has had all updates.

Anyone having send/recieve issues with the gmail app?
I just tried sending a bunch of photos to a seperate account and recieved the message twice, but sending through the android email app over IMAP seems to send normally.
Can't for the life of me see what the problem is.
Hi, I just got my Magic a couple of days ago and I have noticed issues with google mail.
A couple of times now I have checked the mail through the google mail icon on my phone and it has shown Inbox (1) but just doesn't download the message to my phone.
I have tried sync'ing it but it just takes forever to come down. No issues with signal at the time so not really sure what is wrong. One time the email did turn up after I manually sync'ed about 5 times and the other time I logged onto my google mail via the browser rather then the app and read the email, (that email never did arrive on my phone!?)
Hopefully some kind email genius will come along and help us both ;0)
Well I've noticed after setting the email account up through the android app that gmail seems to sync properly now and notify about new mails, though I haven't gotten around to testing if the send is working properly or not on the gmail app.
Incidentally I also switched down to 2G to save battery, but I don't think that'd have an impact...
ok so this might be a NOOB question but i though with 2.2.+ that facebook would do push notifications? i had a blackberry before and LOVED that when i got a e-mail or a notification on Facebook my phone had notified me sometimes before my browser got it. so is their a way to get instant notification for Facebook and my AOL e-mail with out having to have it check at intervals ?
samsung epic froyo 2.2 updated via samsung updater.exe
They worked in DK28 but not in EB13.. It's pretty freakin gay...
Yeah it's lame. My "workaround" was to add gmail to my facebook account and let it push notifications to my phone, which provides direct links to the touch website.
It's not as elegant as an app notification, but it works pretty well and I don't have to have the slower fb app installed.
I use a facebook app called "Flow" and it sends me push notifications for anything I want - notifications, event invites, friend requests, new messages, etc. It's on the market as "Flow for Facebook" and its FREE. Hope this helps!

Did you figure out how to eliminate the dual notifications? I don't just mean the sound either.
The facebook app that came with 2.2 didn't do anything as far as sync and notifications once I logged in. I had to open up facebook in the browser, where it prompted me to enter my login again. Once there is let me sync my contacts and then setup notifications for anything i wanted (I don't use them though).
I do have two facebook accounts under accounts and sync in the settings though.
+1 Its an awesome.app

Sent From My Evo Killer!
Yesterday, I noticed that you can now add facebook SNS (Social networking sync) under accounts. Now, if you have contacts from gmail linked with facebook, it will list their activities/media under each tab.
I was messing around with FB yesterday to try and figure out if I could get push notifications and removed my account. Went to add it back and noticed that it was there. Don't think it was there in EB13 but then again, I never looked.
Just thought that was interesting. Still no push notification after removing and adding my facebook acct back.

Gmail is syncing "all mail" instead of "4 days" as selected in settings
Gmail 2.3.4.2 on my Nexus S > FW 2.3.4 is set to sync messages from the last 4 days, but it still shows all of the messages on my account regardless of the date. When I set it to sync all, then back to sync 4 days, it will sometimes load only the messages from the last 4 days like I want, but then reloads all the messages again as soon as I refresh a second time, or after restarting the phone, i only want the messages from the past 4 days to be downloaded, not all the messages on the account, this also used to happen with older firmware and older gmail clients.
Anyone else with this issue?
Sync means it will store the last 4 days on the phone for offline viewing. If you are online, it will download older messages as needed, as you scroll down or click on them, but will not save them on the phone. If you want to test this, turn on airplane mode on and restart your phone.
Does this help?
I think you may have that wrong, what i said above is also true for sent mail, gmai is only suppose to download mail within the period you select in the settings, but it doesn't, it always downloads "all mail".
After I restart my phone with the data connection disabled, Gmail displays emails only from the last 4 days. Below the last message, it says "No connection." This confirms that it only saving the last 4 days locally to the phone.

After it displays the messages that are synced on the phone, it will then connect to Google to download older messages. Gmail will download older messages as you use it, but will not sync them (store them on the phone).
If I understand you correctly, you are looking for a way to prevent older messages from being displayed at all. There is no way to do this in the Gmail app. On some phones, there is a separate "Mail" app you can use. If I remember correctly, the Mail app will only download messages from whatever timeframe you choose, and there is no way to access older messages without changing the settings. One drawback to this is that it does not sync your sent messages & drafts to Google. They are stored only on your phone, and you will not have access to them when you use gmail on a computer.
Does this answer your question?
I have been doing a bit of testing, and it seems you are right about the "Inbox" sync, but this only seems to effect the "Inbox", if i set the "Sent" label to sync 4 days, it will only ever show sent mail for the last 4 days, this is online or offline, so the sent mail sync seems to be working in a different way, seems strange to me.
I'm having a problem where when I left the messaging app, the phone does not stay connected to the facebook chat portion of the messaging app. Sometimes I'll get notifications of new facebook messages and most of the time not. (Verified when I connect to facebook via a computer later to find a message had been sent to me hours prior). Is there any way to keep facebook chat on when I leave the messaging app?
Good day. I have a rather minor annoyance , in my CALENDAR. When i type in an item, like say, my wifes doctor appoint, up pops past appointments . I have searched thru the phone, and am unable to locate anywhere anything to 1) stop this 2) delete " suggestions"/ On the MANAGE CALENDARS, i have , under the MY PHONE, the MY CALENDARS and CONTACTS' BIRTHDAYS enabled, and MY TASKS disabled. I also have the GOOGLE CALENDAR enabled for my account, and the HOLIDAYS enabled. My SAMSUNG ACCOUNT ( Calendar and TASKS) are both disabled.
I do not wish for the AUTOFILL/COMPLETE to appear, or if i am unable to do that , how can i delete the AUTOFILLS. This was occuring also, before the phone updated to OREO.
Thank you.
