hii guys.. I have a note 4 n910c. i was rooted and was on a custom rom. the phone was restarting continiously till it reaches home screen. i thought it was a software problem.. so i flashed stockrom. but it keep restarting... then i flashed twrp and tried to install another custom rom. the phone just restarts in the middle of flashing in twrp. then i changed to a new battery hoping it was a battery problem.. but then it became worse.. i cant even enter recovery.. the "teamwin" screen flashes and restarts. i tried with all available recoveries, stock roms (4.4.4,5.1.1,6.0), tried repartitioning, i can only enter download mode. battery is not charging, the phone will only enter download mode if usb is connected (charging or pc).
pls help guys...
Sounds like a hardware problem.
Hi, sorry to say that I concur with ben.james046; that it's likely a hardware issue--- and that issue is very likely a worn-out/defective motherboard. I dealt with this exact problem for about 6 months. Initially it seemed battery related. In my case disturbances first started happening when I would take a flash photo-- and despite my battery being charged at let's say 70%, the phone would just go black suddenly, off. I'd take out the battery, then place it back in and plug in my charger just to erase doubts. It would top off in maybe 15 minutes, seeming to be back at 100% charge. But over maybe 2 weeks time this just kept getting worse, and I started to get that constant recycling. I'd power on the phone, it would show Samsung logo, then my carrier (Tmobile), then continue starting up but before completing (before seeing home screen), the phone would go black again, then immediately go into startup sequence again, and this would just continue indefinitely. The only way I could even get it to stop was to take out the battery.
I initially thought "I need to replace this battery; it must be defective", so I bought a Samsung OEM new battery--- from Samsung on Amazon--- and this new battery did the same thing. Then I suspected "hmm, I wonder if I got a lemon battery, or a counterfeit one". So I ordered another brand new battery from Anker. Same thing.... I eventually asked them to diagnose the battery; they said the battery was fine; likely a hardware issue.
All this time I'd googled around and on various forums (beyond XDA) and would find various variations on this theme of the phone recycling on/off/on/off/on/off etc. Pages and pages into each thread would eventually lead to a conclusion that it wasn't a battery problem but, typically, a motherboard had to be replaced.
If I recall, the best investigation into these similar problems was aggregated by The Android Guy, in these various threads:
https://thedroidguy.com/samsung-galaxy-note-4-troubleshooting#problems-solutions
Eventually, I shot & edited a video to show Anker my exact problem. In case it might be useful to others, here it is:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/11Qfhu3GJxw3ny6M7--NBA3GkEM6IdD9R/view
NOTE: just fyi, that's not a cracked screen, that's a tempered glass screen protector i didn't get around to replacing yet.
One more Note: I eventually sent it to Samsung to diagnose and fix--- because I'd read various people online say "hey the motherboard only cost $79 !" (some people got them from alibaba; others from Samsung). I thought what do I have to lose? Then Samsung sent their diagnosis: Would cost $507 to repair !!, with new motherboard and new LCD screen. (LCD didn't make sense from a DISPLAY point of view-- mine was perfect, but maybe various touch points were -- I don't know because I nixed that, and ended up at Swappa buying a new "used one", which I just got a week or so ago... (So far so good)

What a waste. Someone requests urgent help. Another member spends considerable time supplying solid experience with the issue. OP too disinterested to reply back.

I have a Cingular 8525 and it just recently turned off and will not turn back on. I've removed both the battery and the sim and let it sit for a while, put them back in and it still won't turn on. It was cabled to my laptop at the time. No indicator lights at the top turn on at all, even with the wall charger/adapter plugged into it. I've already requested a warranty replacement from Cingular, but apparently they are only sending the phone and not the battery. The person I spoke with said I could go to a Cingular corporate store and have them order me a new battery (none of them in my area have the battery in stock).
Any suggestions? Can someone confirm that the phone will turn on with the battery out and the phone plugged into the wall charger? Can somebody turn off their phone and plug it into the adapter with the phone off and tell me if any lights are lit? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Hi
With no battery in the phone will not operate at all. There should be a RED Led lit up to indicate that the device is failing to charge.
Mike
I know this thread is old, but hopefully someone can help. My 8525 stopped working as of recently. When I plug it up to the charger, there is a red LED..does this mean my battery is junk? or the phone
if there's no battery and you connect the charger, a red light will show......so most likely it would be your battery that's junk. check your battery connections first.
Same problem!
The phone was connected to my computer and was in the middle of replying to a text message when the phone rang. When I went to answer the phone froze and wouldn't respond. I hit the soft rest button and it stayed frozen. I took the battery out and then I got nothing. Won't turn back on. Any suggestions?
Thanks in advance for your help.

If you get no LEDs showing when you connect the charger, then the fuze may be blown.
Fuse location
http://www.mikechannon.net/PDF%20Manuals/Hermes%20Fuse%20Location.pdf
Mike
Fixed
I did a search for the fuse placement on the 8525 and found several screen shoots. I used a pair of tweezers to bridge the gap to see if it was the fuse or not. It worked!!
Replacing a fuse this size on a MB that small is almost impossible for the average person. What I did was place a small amount of solder across the fuse. Everything looks good so far. Of course I will now place the phone inside a sauce pan and leave it on top of the stove top to recharge until I find one on eBay with a broken LCD!
Thanks for the heads up. I'm was hoping for a "normal" fix for this problem. I very grateful for this site and all the users who lend a helping hand.
Cheers, David
My 8525 (HTC Hermes 100) just quit working
Last night I had no problems used the phone while out...got home and my phone just wouldn't respond. No soft reset, no taking out the battery, no charging via wall or by computer worked. No light display to indicate it was charging, or battery was low I tried all these possibilities.
This phone has never touched the ground. (I just got it 2 wks. ago. Its my second HTC Hermes, never had a problem with the other.) the power was at 50 percent so it wasn't dead even...
The phone is unlocked, I don't use ATT, even though this phone is in immaculate condition, it is used, I bought it from someone else who barely used it, so no warranty.
I have taken my other Hermes apart to fix the ribbon cable and screen...I would hate to have to do the same with this phone it still has the void stickers in place.
Bleh, look I love this phone, and if anyone has any suggestions I welcome them as I know this thread is old. I would hate to junk a phone that I can just fix...
I believe u need a charger that could charge the battery outside of phone then when finished put back in battery and see if it turns on u may need a multimeter to test batterys DC volts to see if is below 3.2 volts
Okay - first sorry for opening this deadish thread. But figured better than opening up a new one.
My phone is doing the same thing - it just quit working randomly. Went online to get an address to our next destination. Got there, and picked up phone to make a call - and it wont turn on.
i noticed a capacitor looking thing near the charger that looks like it's cracked or messed up.
Can Mike or someone look at theirs and let me know if it looks similar? Thanks to XDA, this 5 year old phone still feels brand new - and I really haven't seen a need to replace it for at least another year.
Any help, appreciated.

Well aside from the fact you haven't been dusting your motherboard for a while, the component looks OK - here is a picture of mine, see no dust:

(JUST IN CASE anyone gets confused (get it haha) that is not a picture of the fuse in the picture shown above)
Assuming you have no LEDs showing even when the charger is plugged in, then it is very likely to be the fuse:
http://www.mikechannon.net/PDF Manuals/Hermes Fuse Location.pdf
Not that I recommend the old tweezer trick mentioned in a post above! - but it might be worth trying. Or soldering across the fuse. (Neither of these things is at all professional, but I'm old enough to remember putting paperclips in fuse holders as a strictly temporary measure you understand
If you have any LEDs showing then it is not the fuse.

HERMES
I say if you can find someone to take a look at it, you may be able to fix the issue. For me it was as easy as seeing if it was the battery vs. the usb connector vs. even the battery indication LED at the top the phone.
Issue was a mix of the battery and the connector. Fixed and though I have an iPhone my HERMES will always be number 1!

Thanks Mike! You know - I was going to post "please don't mind the dust" then i figured, everyone else's gotta look like that. i guess not, eh?
anyhow i realized that that thing wasn't the fuse - from finding this thread before I posted, I was actually able to get to the fuse. My eyes caught that funky looking thing and said, hey this doesn't look right. So I figured it might be the issue (okay, i hoped it's the issue, because even with my fat sausage fingers, I can probably try swap that out).
I will try the ole tweezer trick to see if it will work. For now I'm in an BJ II - no touch screen and no WinMo (no matter how much we've grown around here, i still like the WinMo interface).

Not tweezers, but I have seen reports that they can be tweaked with a pin. However, you'll need a magnifying glas or preferrably a watchmakers Loupe. I'm lucky, I do watch repairs as a hobby so I have a Loupe and it makes life much easier!
Pins in the USB port do get bent easily and can cross each other.

help!
Last night i was surfing the net on the handst htc tytn, i in the meantime connected to my laptop thru usb n transfering mp3 songs, while doing so the handst hangs, i removed the battery, then when i tried to restart it boots up till microsoft corporation and doesnt go beynd that, no hard reset helps am using windows mobile 6.5 titanium hd. plz help
OK so I think i was able to confirm that it WAS infact the fuse. Tweezing it with my giant tweezer was difficult, but did work (I saw the RED led light come on).
Now - the question is what do I do? I am not sure I have the skill to solder this tiny thing w.o. getting solder ALL over the components around there. BUT at the same time, to me the device is dead, I'll only be putting the nails on the coffin if I mess it up.
Does anyone know if a regular ole cell phone shop can fix this? Or am I going to need to spend more than the device's street value to get it fixed ala the ole cheaper to replace than to fix mantra?
Advice, appreciated
Personally, put the repair money towards a new phone... It will probably be expensive..
Sorry, but as much as I loved the Hermes, its getting just a bit long in the tooth... Newer devices have more ram, and more little things, like GPS and so forth..
Though it was a good Phone, my Hermes has been retired for a younger faster model, aren't we all at some point...
do you have a broken wizard you'd like to sell? simply put it under www.ebay.com and signal the broken wizard offer (THE LINK!) under this thread - specifying the type of defect.
There is a number of OTHER broken wizards (like mine!) that could be repaired by recovering parts from others. And very often we could repair more than one - so after you've repaired yours you could try to resell the remaining pieces.
So, anybody having a broken wizard: follow this thread and we will ALL save money!
As you know, the service manual is very detailed and allows easy replacement of many parts: screens, keyboards, mainboards, stylus holders...batteries!
anyway, we are not anymore under warranty....right?
Comments also welcome, since keep the thread high in the list...
Anything YOU NEED?
Hi,
all those in need of parts could also post here...i desperately need one LCD PCB - since the connector on the flat cable between the LCD and the PCB went bad and my display doesn't work anymore/ after months of shaky performances...THX
anybody got a screen around?need the lcd+digitizer. im not sure yet whether its a gold or black connection, will check later on, but just wondering if anyone has an lcd around..
where could i get the service manual?
anyone know where I can find a switch? Yes, a switch not the button. Long story
Hi,
I have for sale the LCD and touch screen. However, it's more complicated.
My touch screen was cracked but the LCD was good so I bought a new touch screen and tried to fixed it but I was not able to connect touch screen to the LCD (solder the tape?). So I quit and bought a new LCD with the touch screnn. So now I have an used LCD and a brand new touch screen for sale. If you are good in fixing things, I'm sure you will have fun
Let me know if you need some more information or pictures.
Peace,
Tom
I'm looking for a brand new full external case (the front frame with the Imate Logo on it) and a non scratched LCD preferably with a screen protector installed on it.

My son's Wizard/Cingular 8125 Died
I'll be listing my son's Cingular 8125 later on today on Ebay. It appears the motherboard went "belly up" on it. . . just 3 weeks out of warranty. At least -- from reading some other threads on the forums about the same type problems, that's what I'm surmising happened to it. It wasn't dropped, kicked, sat on, run over, etc., etc. -- it just shut down while he was on the Internet, never to be revived again. I tried switching out his battery with my fully-charged battery to rule that out and tried a few other ideas I found on the forums -- NADA.
No blinking LED when plugged into the wall charger and the PC gives me an error message that the "USB Device has malfunctioned" when plugging it up to the USB sync cable. He had been running the WM6 Underground Edition ROM for a little over 2 months without any problems. It's also one of the original G3 chip phones.
Thought I'd post on here before listing it to see if anyone is interested. PM me if you are.

What do you mean? Did the actual button break the one inside soldered to the board or just the case button that is used to press on the real button?
I broke the actual button trying to put the case back on and I got an old board I am desoldering the buttons from. If this is the case then I could probably send you one.

Now slowly, the green screen would start to flicker at times and lo one day, it would turn into a pale green light. You wont be able to do anything with the phone.
My IMMEDIATE ADVICE ...
TAKE a COMPLETE BACKUP of your data as soon as you read this message.
Secondly
Try turning the Blue Light filter off, Change the saturation of the phone and see if you are still seeing the green shade,
Send this device to service center.

I have fixed my phone twice with this problem. You need to heat up the screen. Full brightness then record video for an hour. You should see the greenness recede. If there are green lines st the bottom which don't disappear, use a hairdryer on the screen. You will see the green vanish in 30seconds. When the phone cools, it will come back. You need to keep regularly reheating your screen to get rid of it, like every 20 minutes for a day or, 2. Eventually it will clear up. It's a pixel what issue. Heating the screen repeatedly restores functionality, after least in my case.

pixel to full HD from QHD to continue in this mode. I have been working on this for last few days else the ****sung care only want's to replace the screen combo .
Will try the heating methodology. I have doubts about battery also and planning to change and see.
Same issue just popped up today for me. Rooted nougat ROM with safestrap. It's definitely not the screen itself, and it's behavior is Sunday strange, it'll show up on webpages or other screens that are mostly white, but not on the dark mode applications.
so it's green on this thread and it gets less green when I open Chrome's settings on the top right.
Reboot fixes it. Until it comes back again.
Started to face this green tint issue on my S8 recently, the phone worked well for the past two years until suddenly one day this green **** happened. Never dropped the phone and never rooted it. For now rebooting the phone solves the issue, until it comes back. Till now it happened 5-6 times in a week. Rebooting fixes it and then it runs normally for sometime (or somedays) then it happens again.
Any solution?
Apparently it is a software problem, something about some screens batch that does not received well those new patches. i took my s8 g950fd at a Samsung authorized store and is was what they told me, but they don't fix it for free if it is not on warranty even though it is a Samsung software problem. I have tried to root and change roms, but it seems my cellphone does not accept root or new roms. if some one know how to help me id be grateful.
my screen has green after unlock bootloader. i didn´t anything, so im tired :/
Sounds like a firmware bug* on at least some of these. Samsung tech support sucks elephant balls bad. Obviously Samsung is well aware of this issue by now.
*during a production run Samsung will substitute smaller chipsets and components as needed. This can cause erratic firmware/update behavior as the substituted components don't have the correct values and/or code. If so you're in a fubar because Samsung is unlikely to supply the needed patch at this late date.
You can try flashing the original firmware, be wary of updates. It could be a system apk update as well.
It could also be a hardware failure on a whole batch(es) of these phones.
started having this problem suddenly now, didn't drop it, didn't do any updates. wow!

Install or uninstall -any- software lately?
Hello all,
After numerous successful ROM flashes on my Note 2 and Note 4, the S8+ put me on a flashing hiatus that I've now returned to with the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 that I bought a week ago. In this case, it was merely to install TWRP and root the tablet, which I successfully did using Odin_3.12.3, TWRP_3.2.3-4-gtaxlwifi-OMNI6.tar, SR5-SuperSU-v2.82, and no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx. What I had forgotten from "the old days" of the Note 4 , was that rooting interferes with Snapchat, and that led me into looking for root hiding options and ultimately Magisk-v15.3 which I decided to install only after reflashing the original stock Nougat 7.0 ROM. However, I never got that far. After the flash of the ROM, my tablet failed to reboot, giving only a series of 5 different screens (image below) of multicolored banding and no access to the recovery mode.

I've tried numerous 3-finger salutes, varying my timing on them in the event that I just wasn't getting the HOME+VolDwn+Pwr with switchover to HOME+VolUp actions quite right. I've also tried every other button combination I could, inclusive of holding them for as long as 3 minutes just in case that too might factor in. Zero, zip, nada....just the same series of screens full of color bands and no proper screen draw for the recovery menu. When all this failed, I moved into popping the back and disconnecting the battery, then using USB power only, with the same 3-button actions as well as trying some without the HOME key, but never finding anything that would boot to a readable, usable recovery menu.
Reading that the ADB platform tools can be used with fastboot to access the recovery menu, that was my next step, but my tablet would never show up as detected. I've searched for anything I could think of that might help, only to find that anything even vaguely similar was still expecting one to get to the recovery menu.
For the moment, I glad the Tablet A 10.01 was only $149, and I anticipate going to buy another one this weekend if I cannot solve this apparent bricking issue. With Odin and a stock image on hand, I stubbornly want to believe that a brick can still be overcome, but I'll be darned if I know how.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated on how I might resolve this problem. Thanks!
Hold the Home, Vol down and Power buttons for about ten seconds. When the green screen appears, release the buttons and press Vol up. This should put you in the download mode. Then reflash the stock ROM via Odin. But only the AP and BL files.
Thanks Lewmur, I tried your suggestion, but specifically only in that you say release all buttons and press just the VolUp button. That may be one combination I have not tried before, usually seeing folks saying to keep HOME depressed as well, the exception possibly being when the battery has been disconnected. Regardless, the biggest issue seems to be I never get the green screen. I did talk only of the recovery mode being inaccessible, so that was my fault. Neither recovery mode nor download mode seem available. I have tried switching to the VolUp button at the point where the tablet blacks out (presumably no power present) as well as at each of the 5 screens where different color stripes were noted. Nothing has worked. I did notice when charging that the area around the left soft button gets warm, but assume that is simply where the charging circuitry is and regarded as normal behavior. I've never noticed it before but the way I've been handling the tablet versus normal use may be the simple explanation for that. In any case, I guess I'm off to get a new tablet. Thank you!

Are you sure you held the Vol down and not the Vol up? They are reversed from what I'd expect. The vol down is furthest from power. Holding that long enough should at least bring up the first green screen. Then changing to download just takes pressing vol up. What happens when you hold those keys?
You may try to reseat the LCD cable, the line on the cable is just a little bit below the line on mainboard, you may have discoloration or black screen. Disconnect the battery first to avoid any short circuit if you do something wrong with cables.
Gently lift the locking clip up 90 degree, then push the LCD cable all the way in, then push the clip down to lock the cable. Be careful with the clip as it's easily broken if using force unevenly.
Loose LCD cable is common problem of this model. Reconnect your battery and connect your tablet to USB cable and charger, look for the flashing green of battery on the screen. If it shows up normally, problem solved.
Yes Lewmur, I was holding down the correct buttons and actually tried the reverse also, just to be sure I had all bases covered. Definitely VolDn is furthest from the Power, although to me that seemed intuitive. Problem solved though, tablet replaced by the store with a half-truth shared of "It isn't booting properly", but without elaborating.
Thanks Beaut....reseating the LCD cable definitely was not something I gave consideration to since I'd done nothing to disturb it and the tablet had been handled carefully over the 12 days I had it. Still, it would've been prudent to explore, I just didn't think about that as being a likely issue. Good info to have moving forward however, thanks again!

Trust me, 8 of 10 tab A has the issue of black screen due to loose LCD cable. People don't do anything but the getting the black screen because the OEM tapes are too weak to hold the long cable firmly to the connector.
This is common, that I suggest to take a look at it. It may or may not relate to your problem.
Glad that you were able to fix this (by returning the tablet). But for anyone else coming to the thread, I ran into the same problem after flashing twrp when I first got the tablet.
The screen will appear as if it's completely broken. At first I thought flashing a custom kernel messed with the screen's power input and it was physically broken, but it wasn't.
The normal key combos didn't work since I kept getting a bootloop. I don't remember exactly what I did. But I think I held down volume up+volume down+power to force a restart,
then quickly change to volume down+home+power or something like that, the order was important too iirc, I wish I wrote it down. Then I flashed a stock rom and everything was as good as new.
Then I used cfroot to root first before doing anything else.
Thanks....yeah, I too had troubles when I flashed the version of TWRP called out in a post about how to root the SM-T580, getting the screen banding but of a very different nature from the one I described by the images I posted. Fortunately, I found a thread on that specific problem and learned of an updated TWRP beta, the 3.2.3-4-gtaxlwifi-OMNI6.tar release, and that resolved the issue and gave me a good boot into recovery. From there I was able to proceed without issue, installing SuperSU to achieve the rooting. I didn't know of or install Magisk at the time, and only later learned of it, reflashing the OEM ROM to start clean. It was after that when the bootloop with banded screens occurred. It did smack of being video driver issues or something, and I didn't really think about the video cable itself being loose, so props to Beaut for mentitioning it although I'd already returned the tablet. I did look at the cables when I opened the tablet up, a couple of times in fact, and saw nothing obvious but also didn't scrutinize them closely. While I don't discount the possiblity of a loose cable, just the nature of how the problem arouse simply following a reboot after a ROM flash just suggests some other problem. It's sure good news to hear you worked through similar problems even if not knowing exactly what you did right. I exercised numerous button pushes in including what you mentioned, so it may well boil down to the timing in switching from one set of depressed buttons to another. Thanks for sharing!
hi there, I just replaced my screen for the umpteenth time but, on this occasion, it hasn't "taken". The old screen is totally obliterated, smashed display, but it still takes power and behaves as it should (lights up on disconnection of usb charger, for example). The new screen? Not so much. It does actually work, it shows the picture fine, but it only shows it for a fraction of a second then blinks off. When I press the power button again it does nothing, as it thinks I'm turning the phone off, then when I press it again the screen comes back on for a half a second or so and same issue. Have checked all connections, all fine, have swapped in the old screen to confirm it behaves as it should, all fine.
I'm wondering, could this be some kind of gpu/driver issue? Or has anyone experienced this before with a replacement screen and it's just a "dud"? Absolute downer as I've been waiting for it for a month or so and literally can't afford to buy another one at the moment, really bad year

I had a similar problem due to display incompatibility.
I have the phone marked FHD-D on the cable and the new display was FHD-A.
Or, the new display is not original...

Thanks for your reply and yeah, I'm figuring this is what is happening. However, the cable/screen are all one piece and were bought together, so is it possible they'd mismatch the cable to the screen themselves? idk, anyway, I've opened a dispute and have now been told that I'm stupid and that I have installed the screen incorrectly and not connected the battery (absolute gibberish).
I made a couple of videos for them, idk, have a look and see what you reckon but, indeed, to me this looks like straight up incompatibility as the screen isn't being driven properly by the phone (and, as you can see, the old busted screen behaves correctly)
Video of old/broken screen showing correct power response and on/off behaviour:

Here is the video of"new" screen which is clearly not correctly supported

Well hopefully I can get a refund for the part and get another. Can't even afford to order another at the moment until I get the refund :/ Lost my business last year due to covid and don't have access to state benefits or the like, so have just been trying to keep the head above water for the last year and a bit, so believe it or not something like this is a big expenditure for me these days :/

The original screen is "Boe" (see screenshot), this can be verified via the "Device Info HW" application.
Too bad the phone won't start and it can't be verified...

Yeah, it's a pain, I guess the display is just not going to work and I'll have to somehow get another - hopefully I can get the refund okay as those videos show it clearly doesn't work! The phone does actually start up, everything is going on fine aside from the screen. As I have to press on/off several times to get the screen to flicker, I don't have time to put in the unlock code and get into any menus, and then when it goes off I'm back to jockeying the button until it lights up again, at which point of course it's returning from a standby state so it's going back to the code input. BAH!
hello how are you 1 month ago I bought the second-hand mate 10 lite with the crashed but functional screen and I decided to buy a screen since the one I brought stopped working the touch screen everything was fine in the installation but the same thing happened to me as you understand normal but the screen does not work when the device is finished charging and putting the pattern turns on the screen and also that when I make a gesture it does not work I have to press a little hard and I realized that the screen came out a slight defect and I cannot request a refund since remove the security seals when installing it in your case if it came out with a major manufacturing defect
Note 2020 just look at the date of your post and still comment hehe greetings from Mexico
