SM-T580 Bricked On Flashing Nougat 7.0 ROM XAR-T580UEU2BQF1-20170623075724 - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

Hello all,
After numerous successful ROM flashes on my Note 2 and Note 4, the S8+ put me on a flashing hiatus that I've now returned to with the Galaxy Tab A 10.1 that I bought a week ago. In this case, it was merely to install TWRP and root the tablet, which I successfully did using Odin_3.12.3, TWRP_3.2.3-4-gtaxlwifi-OMNI6.tar, SR5-SuperSU-v2.82, and no-verity-no-encrypt_ashyx. What I had forgotten from "the old days" of the Note 4 , was that rooting interferes with Snapchat, and that led me into looking for root hiding options and ultimately Magisk-v15.3 which I decided to install only after reflashing the original stock Nougat 7.0 ROM. However, I never got that far. After the flash of the ROM, my tablet failed to reboot, giving only a series of 5 different screens (image below) of multicolored banding and no access to the recovery mode.

I've tried numerous 3-finger salutes, varying my timing on them in the event that I just wasn't getting the HOME+VolDwn+Pwr with switchover to HOME+VolUp actions quite right. I've also tried every other button combination I could, inclusive of holding them for as long as 3 minutes just in case that too might factor in. Zero, zip, nada....just the same series of screens full of color bands and no proper screen draw for the recovery menu. When all this failed, I moved into popping the back and disconnecting the battery, then using USB power only, with the same 3-button actions as well as trying some without the HOME key, but never finding anything that would boot to a readable, usable recovery menu.
Reading that the ADB platform tools can be used with fastboot to access the recovery menu, that was my next step, but my tablet would never show up as detected. I've searched for anything I could think of that might help, only to find that anything even vaguely similar was still expecting one to get to the recovery menu.
For the moment, I glad the Tablet A 10.01 was only $149, and I anticipate going to buy another one this weekend if I cannot solve this apparent bricking issue. With Odin and a stock image on hand, I stubbornly want to believe that a brick can still be overcome, but I'll be darned if I know how.
Any suggestions are greatly appreciated on how I might resolve this problem. Thanks!

Hold the Home, Vol down and Power buttons for about ten seconds. When the green screen appears, release the buttons and press Vol up. This should put you in the download mode. Then reflash the stock ROM via Odin. But only the AP and BL files.

Thanks Lewmur, I tried your suggestion, but specifically only in that you say release all buttons and press just the VolUp button. That may be one combination I have not tried before, usually seeing folks saying to keep HOME depressed as well, the exception possibly being when the battery has been disconnected. Regardless, the biggest issue seems to be I never get the green screen. I did talk only of the recovery mode being inaccessible, so that was my fault. Neither recovery mode nor download mode seem available. I have tried switching to the VolUp button at the point where the tablet blacks out (presumably no power present) as well as at each of the 5 screens where different color stripes were noted. Nothing has worked. I did notice when charging that the area around the left soft button gets warm, but assume that is simply where the charging circuitry is and regarded as normal behavior. I've never noticed it before but the way I've been handling the tablet versus normal use may be the simple explanation for that. In any case, I guess I'm off to get a new tablet. Thank you!

Are you sure you held the Vol down and not the Vol up? They are reversed from what I'd expect. The vol down is furthest from power. Holding that long enough should at least bring up the first green screen. Then changing to download just takes pressing vol up. What happens when you hold those keys?

You may try to reseat the LCD cable, the line on the cable is just a little bit below the line on mainboard, you may have discoloration or black screen. Disconnect the battery first to avoid any short circuit if you do something wrong with cables.
Gently lift the locking clip up 90 degree, then push the LCD cable all the way in, then push the clip down to lock the cable. Be careful with the clip as it's easily broken if using force unevenly.
Loose LCD cable is common problem of this model. Reconnect your battery and connect your tablet to USB cable and charger, look for the flashing green of battery on the screen. If it shows up normally, problem solved.

Yes Lewmur, I was holding down the correct buttons and actually tried the reverse also, just to be sure I had all bases covered. Definitely VolDn is furthest from the Power, although to me that seemed intuitive. Problem solved though, tablet replaced by the store with a half-truth shared of "It isn't booting properly", but without elaborating.

Thanks Beaut....reseating the LCD cable definitely was not something I gave consideration to since I'd done nothing to disturb it and the tablet had been handled carefully over the 12 days I had it. Still, it would've been prudent to explore, I just didn't think about that as being a likely issue. Good info to have moving forward however, thanks again!

Trust me, 8 of 10 tab A has the issue of black screen due to loose LCD cable. People don't do anything but the getting the black screen because the OEM tapes are too weak to hold the long cable firmly to the connector.
This is common, that I suggest to take a look at it. It may or may not relate to your problem.

Glad that you were able to fix this (by returning the tablet). But for anyone else coming to the thread, I ran into the same problem after flashing twrp when I first got the tablet.
The screen will appear as if it's completely broken. At first I thought flashing a custom kernel messed with the screen's power input and it was physically broken, but it wasn't.
The normal key combos didn't work since I kept getting a bootloop. I don't remember exactly what I did. But I think I held down volume up+volume down+power to force a restart,
then quickly change to volume down+home+power or something like that, the order was important too iirc, I wish I wrote it down. Then I flashed a stock rom and everything was as good as new.
Then I used cfroot to root first before doing anything else.

Thanks....yeah, I too had troubles when I flashed the version of TWRP called out in a post about how to root the SM-T580, getting the screen banding but of a very different nature from the one I described by the images I posted. Fortunately, I found a thread on that specific problem and learned of an updated TWRP beta, the 3.2.3-4-gtaxlwifi-OMNI6.tar release, and that resolved the issue and gave me a good boot into recovery. From there I was able to proceed without issue, installing SuperSU to achieve the rooting. I didn't know of or install Magisk at the time, and only later learned of it, reflashing the OEM ROM to start clean. It was after that when the bootloop with banded screens occurred. It did smack of being video driver issues or something, and I didn't really think about the video cable itself being loose, so props to Beaut for mentitioning it although I'd already returned the tablet. I did look at the cables when I opened the tablet up, a couple of times in fact, and saw nothing obvious but also didn't scrutinize them closely. While I don't discount the possiblity of a loose cable, just the nature of how the problem arouse simply following a reboot after a ROM flash just suggests some other problem. It's sure good news to hear you worked through similar problems even if not knowing exactly what you did right. I exercised numerous button pushes in including what you mentioned, so it may well boil down to the timing in switching from one set of depressed buttons to another. Thanks for sharing!

[Q] Power Button Broken Is there a Way to Start The Phone?

Hey everyone,
My apologies if this has been covered I did several searches and didn't find anything.
Short story: I dropped my phone in the toilet.....walked into the bathroom and fumbled it. Pulled it out pretty quickly it had a soft and hard case on it that helped prevent some water form getting in. Now everything works except the power button. It ran out of battery before I could get home to charge it yesterday. Now with a broke power button I don't know how to turn it on.
- Dropped it in the water 2 days ago
-USB debug was not enabled
-I can get it into download mode (not sure if this is relevant)
Thank you for taking the time to read, if you could use anymore info let me know.
Have you tried the usual rice procedure? Leaving it in a bowl of dry rice for approx. a day. If you haven't, I'd wait for more insight by experienced gurus as I'm not totally sure, but I think there is some way to turn the device on from download mode, which you said you can access.

Well, at least there wasn't anything else in the toilet...
You could try disassembling the phone. You'll need a T5 TORX driver, a very small Phillips driver, and something thin and plastic to pull the case halves apart like a guitar pick or plastic knife. Go to ifixit.com and look up the tear-down guide.
It could be that the contacts for the power button board were corroded. Head to Radio Shack or whatever the equivalent is that you have wherever you are and pick up some Progold and Deoxit. Deoxit removes corrosion, Progold improves conductivity. If that doesn't work, you could try buying a new power button board off eBay; they're pretty cheap.

Ok thank you guys for the replies. It seems like I will have to give your suggestion a try I already have the tools so it shouldn't be a big deal. Just to confirm there is no way to start it without the power button? Like I said I can get it into download mode by holding down the volume rocker when inserting a usb. Thanks again its much appreciated.

In the state your phone is in, I don't think so.
There are ways to turn the Nexus 4 on by means other than the power button. For example, there are apps that utilize the proximity sensor to unlock your phone by waving your hand in front of it. If you're rooted with the bootloader unlocked you can flash a custom kernel that enables various ways of waking the screen and sleeping it via touch (these aren't 100% though). If you're rooted, you can use Xposed modules to remap your buttons, and you could use the volume rocker instead of the power button.
But all those require your phone to at least be ON first, so they're not an option for you until you can actually get your power button working.
There is one possibility that didn't occur to me last night. A co-worker of mine is in practically the same situation as you (substitute your toilet for a mop bucket) with his Nexus 4. He uses the proximity sensor hand waving thing to wake/sleep his phone since his power button doesn't work. When Towelroot came out, I rooted it for him and installed a root rebooter so he can reboot if he needs to. But he's also able jam a thin knife through the case where the button is and short the contacts and turn it on/off that way.
So what you could try when you disassemble the phone is to try shorting the contacts with a piece of wire or paper clip. Take off the back cover, remove the plastic piece that covers the logic board (but don't remove/disconnect anything else. The phone should still operate (or would if your button wasn't damaged). If you're able to turn on your phone in this manner, then try cleaning the contacts and/or replacing the board as I mentioned earlier.
Good luck.

I circled the contact points. I believe these points, when shorted, should complete the circuit and make the device think the power button is being pressed. Actually, it's not a short, you're just completing a circuit, but I can't think of the proper term for what it's doing.
EDIT: I tried it on mine, and completing a circuit between those 2 contacts definitely works to activate the power button. If it doesn't work on yours, then either the contacts are too corroded or you need a new power button board.
And if they are too corroded, you can use some rubbing alcohol to remove it!

Galaxy S4 I545 verizon - Not turning on

Merry Christmas.
My phone was at around 96%. Phone screen was OFF on my desk. Suddenly, phone screen comes ON. I press the power key to turn the phone screen off. It didn't work. I unlocked the phone and kept attempting to turn off the screen. The power key was unresponsive. I attempted to shut down the phone by long-pressing the button. Still no response. Took off the case, took out the battery. Put it back in. The phone vibrated and showed "Samsung" boot logo for about 5 seconds before shutting off while still loading. When plugged into the wall to charge, it shows the charging battery icon with a "refresh" icon inside the battery icon. It also shows for about 5 seconds before disappearing. I can't get it to show up as a USB connected device on my desktop.
What the hell happened? I have so much stuff on this Galaxy S4. I purchased it from Verizon in September 2013. I did NOTHING to it! It was literally sitting on my desk!
Oh and btw it was never rooted or anything. It ran the TouchWiz home and basically everything is unmodified. I just need my pictures back from the internal storage! I only have half my pictures on my micro SD.
Edit: This has been solved. It was the power button stuck in, as mentioned. To fix this, you need to get to the phone's logic board and rip the power button off the board. The metal is easy to bend, just be really careful not to break anything. I carved away the plastic slowly with a flathead. I bought a soldering iron and a desoldering iron, so as soon as my new button arrives in the mail ($6 shipped on ebay), I'll get the rest of the metal off and drop the new button into place.
Sounds like the power button is 'stuck' as pressed in?
Perhaps some dirt or just or something got into it? You can try pull off the cover and clean the outer-casing where the power button is. There are many tutorials on this.
Eg steps 1 to 11 here:
https://www.ifixit.com/Guide/Samsung+Galaxy+S4+Display+Assembly+Replacement/16540
I've also seen a solution where they say to hit the phone on the power button on a table gently, and keep doing it harder until the power button becomes unstuck... but that sounds like a stupid idea to me. I would recommend taking off the cover as shown in the guide above and checking for dirt or damage around the power button and on the inside of the case where the power button lies (where the button contact is)
Is there any way I could just get the internal memory?
And for more info, pressing just the volume up key shows the "recovery" text in the top left corner for about 1 second before shutting the whole phone off. Volume down will ask if I'd like to install a custom OS or whatever.

Hi mate,
Then you need to fix that power button, should be fairly easy and cheap...if the phone does not stays on there is nothing you can do to access those files....sorry
Yes, as mentioned, your issue appears to be a stuck or faulty power button.
Opening the phone is quite easy. You just undo 9 screws and use a thin plastic pry tool around the edges to pop it open. This will allow you to take a look... otherwise, take it to a repair shop.

That is SURE to void your warranty. Don't go messing around with your device's components! The above could be recommended as a last resort if your device is totally bricked to get your data off it. Not sure if the USB jig will help you, as your power button will probably still force your phone off. Let me know, though.
Now that the panel is off and the power button is free and clean, does your phone still turn itself off automatically with the battery inside? I wanted you to open it so that you could see if there are any obstructions on the button, and you can try press it to see if it's stuck (it should depress and you should feel a slight 'click') .
Turn the phone on with a fingertip on the power button. It's a little bit small, but you can do it.
Be careful, as the battery can fall out easy.

TAKE a COMPLETE BACKUP of your data as soon as you read this message.
Secondly
Try turning the Blue Light filter off, Change the saturation of the phone and see if you are still seeing the green shade,
Send this device to service center.

I have fixed my phone twice with this problem. You need to heat up the screen. Full brightness then record video for an hour. You should see the greenness recede. If there are green lines st the bottom which don't disappear, use a hairdryer on the screen. You will see the green vanish in 30seconds. When the phone cools, it will come back. You need to keep regularly reheating your screen to get rid of it, like every 20 minutes for a day or, 2. Eventually it will clear up. It's a pixel what issue. Heating the screen repeatedly restores functionality, after least in my case.

Will try the heating methodology. I have doubts about battery also and planning to change and see.
Same issue just popped up today for me. Rooted nougat ROM with safestrap. It's definitely not the screen itself, and it's behavior is Sunday strange, it'll show up on webpages or other screens that are mostly white, but not on the dark mode applications.
so it's green on this thread and it gets less green when I open Chrome's settings on the top right.
Reboot fixes it. Until it comes back again.
Started to face this green tint issue on my S8 recently, the phone worked well for the past two years until suddenly one day this green **** happened. Never dropped the phone and never rooted it. For now rebooting the phone solves the issue, until it comes back. Till now it happened 5-6 times in a week. Rebooting fixes it and then it runs normally for sometime (or somedays) then it happens again.
Any solution?
Apparently it is a software problem, something about some screens batch that does not received well those new patches. i took my s8 g950fd at a Samsung authorized store and is was what they told me, but they don't fix it for free if it is not on warranty even though it is a Samsung software problem. I have tried to root and change roms, but it seems my cellphone does not accept root or new roms. if some one know how to help me id be grateful.
my screen has green after unlock bootloader. i didnĀ“t anything, so im tired :/
Sounds like a firmware bug* on at least some of these. Samsung tech support sucks elephant balls bad. Obviously Samsung is well aware of this issue by now.
*during a production run Samsung will substitute smaller chipsets and components as needed. This can cause erratic firmware/update behavior as the substituted components don't have the correct values and/or code. If so you're in a fubar because Samsung is unlikely to supply the needed patch at this late date.
You can try flashing the original firmware, be wary of updates. It could be a system apk update as well.
It could also be a hardware failure on a whole batch(es) of these phones.
started having this problem suddenly now, didn't drop it, didn't do any updates. wow!

Note 4 [N910C] abnormal behaviour. restarting continiously

hii guys.. I have a note 4 n910c. i was rooted and was on a custom rom. the phone was restarting continiously till it reaches home screen. i thought it was a software problem.. so i flashed stockrom. but it keep restarting... then i flashed twrp and tried to install another custom rom. the phone just restarts in the middle of flashing in twrp. then i changed to a new battery hoping it was a battery problem.. but then it became worse.. i cant even enter recovery.. the "teamwin" screen flashes and restarts. i tried with all available recoveries, stock roms (4.4.4,5.1.1,6.0), tried repartitioning, i can only enter download mode. battery is not charging, the phone will only enter download mode if usb is connected (charging or pc).
pls help guys...
Sounds like a hardware problem.
Hi, sorry to say that I concur with ben.james046; that it's likely a hardware issue--- and that issue is very likely a worn-out/defective motherboard. I dealt with this exact problem for about 6 months. Initially it seemed battery related. In my case disturbances first started happening when I would take a flash photo-- and despite my battery being charged at let's say 70%, the phone would just go black suddenly, off. I'd take out the battery, then place it back in and plug in my charger just to erase doubts. It would top off in maybe 15 minutes, seeming to be back at 100% charge. But over maybe 2 weeks time this just kept getting worse, and I started to get that constant recycling. I'd power on the phone, it would show Samsung logo, then my carrier (Tmobile), then continue starting up but before completing (before seeing home screen), the phone would go black again, then immediately go into startup sequence again, and this would just continue indefinitely. The only way I could even get it to stop was to take out the battery.
I initially thought "I need to replace this battery; it must be defective", so I bought a Samsung OEM new battery--- from Samsung on Amazon--- and this new battery did the same thing. Then I suspected "hmm, I wonder if I got a lemon battery, or a counterfeit one". So I ordered another brand new battery from Anker. Same thing.... I eventually asked them to diagnose the battery; they said the battery was fine; likely a hardware issue.
All this time I'd googled around and on various forums (beyond XDA) and would find various variations on this theme of the phone recycling on/off/on/off/on/off etc. Pages and pages into each thread would eventually lead to a conclusion that it wasn't a battery problem but, typically, a motherboard had to be replaced.
If I recall, the best investigation into these similar problems was aggregated by The Android Guy, in these various threads:
https://thedroidguy.com/samsung-galaxy-note-4-troubleshooting#problems-solutions
Eventually, I shot & edited a video to show Anker my exact problem. In case it might be useful to others, here it is:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/11Qfhu3GJxw3ny6M7--NBA3GkEM6IdD9R/view
NOTE: just fyi, that's not a cracked screen, that's a tempered glass screen protector i didn't get around to replacing yet.
One more Note: I eventually sent it to Samsung to diagnose and fix--- because I'd read various people online say "hey the motherboard only cost $79 !" (some people got them from alibaba; others from Samsung). I thought what do I have to lose? Then Samsung sent their diagnosis: Would cost $507 to repair !!, with new motherboard and new LCD screen. (LCD didn't make sense from a DISPLAY point of view-- mine was perfect, but maybe various touch points were -- I don't know because I nixed that, and ended up at Swappa buying a new "used one", which I just got a week or so ago... (So far so good)

What a waste. Someone requests urgent help. Another member spends considerable time supplying solid experience with the issue. OP too disinterested to reply back.

SCREEN REPLACEMENT PROBLEM

hi there, I just replaced my screen for the umpteenth time but, on this occasion, it hasn't "taken". The old screen is totally obliterated, smashed display, but it still takes power and behaves as it should (lights up on disconnection of usb charger, for example). The new screen? Not so much. It does actually work, it shows the picture fine, but it only shows it for a fraction of a second then blinks off. When I press the power button again it does nothing, as it thinks I'm turning the phone off, then when I press it again the screen comes back on for a half a second or so and same issue. Have checked all connections, all fine, have swapped in the old screen to confirm it behaves as it should, all fine.
I'm wondering, could this be some kind of gpu/driver issue? Or has anyone experienced this before with a replacement screen and it's just a "dud"? Absolute downer as I've been waiting for it for a month or so and literally can't afford to buy another one at the moment, really bad year

I had a similar problem due to display incompatibility.
I have the phone marked FHD-D on the cable and the new display was FHD-A.
Or, the new display is not original...

Thanks for your reply and yeah, I'm figuring this is what is happening. However, the cable/screen are all one piece and were bought together, so is it possible they'd mismatch the cable to the screen themselves? idk, anyway, I've opened a dispute and have now been told that I'm stupid and that I have installed the screen incorrectly and not connected the battery (absolute gibberish).
I made a couple of videos for them, idk, have a look and see what you reckon but, indeed, to me this looks like straight up incompatibility as the screen isn't being driven properly by the phone (and, as you can see, the old busted screen behaves correctly)
Video of old/broken screen showing correct power response and on/off behaviour:
https://streamable.com/n16xo8
Here is the video of"new" screen which is clearly not correctly supported
https://streamable.com/28w8m2
Well hopefully I can get a refund for the part and get another. Can't even afford to order another at the moment until I get the refund :/ Lost my business last year due to covid and don't have access to state benefits or the like, so have just been trying to keep the head above water for the last year and a bit, so believe it or not something like this is a big expenditure for me these days :/

The original screen is "Boe" (see screenshot), this can be verified via the "Device Info HW" application.
Too bad the phone won't start and it can't be verified...

Yeah, it's a pain, I guess the display is just not going to work and I'll have to somehow get another - hopefully I can get the refund okay as those videos show it clearly doesn't work! The phone does actually start up, everything is going on fine aside from the screen. As I have to press on/off several times to get the screen to flicker, I don't have time to put in the unlock code and get into any menus, and then when it goes off I'm back to jockeying the button until it lights up again, at which point of course it's returning from a standby state so it's going back to the code input. BAH!
hello how are you 1 month ago I bought the second-hand mate 10 lite with the crashed but functional screen and I decided to buy a screen since the one I brought stopped working the touch screen everything was fine in the installation but the same thing happened to me as you understand normal but the screen does not work when the device is finished charging and putting the pattern turns on the screen and also that when I make a gesture it does not work I have to press a little hard and I realized that the screen came out a slight defect and I cannot request a refund since remove the security seals when installing it in your case if it came out with a major manufacturing defect
Note 2020 just look at the date of your post and still comment hehe greetings from Mexico
