Hello there everyone, new here to the site. So let me give some context behind everything. I was at college and saw that there was an update for my Samsung Galaxy S8(SM-G950U from Sprint, Carrier being Boost Mobile) to Oreo. Before the update I used Shortcut Master(lite) to edit the APN settings by adding "dun" to APN type so I could go ahead and have an infinite hotspot solution, the most important one I need being USB tethering so I can connect it to my Asus Router and use that to spread my hotspot out to all of my devices.
So I come home after the update has finished and wotnot and I plugged my phone into the router as usual, however when I try to go on the internet I go to my Carriers website asking to login. So I checked my Apn settings and saw that they have been reverted back to normal. No problem just use Shortcut Master(lite) again, type in LTEFunctionality, go to the usual screen....and nothing. Well not really nothing, I see 2 Access Points.
APN2 EHRPD Internet
n.boost.ispsn
and
APN2 LTE internet
n.boost.ispsn
which you cannot edit. You also cannot add or delete any Access Points. So I am at sort of a blocked path at this point. I am not sure what to do. If anyone can provide any assistance then that would be much appreciated.

I am on a prepaid plan and there is no way to get internet through tmobile with prepaid, but the WIFI should still work, but it doesnt. I can get it to connect to a network but when i open IE it wont go to any web adress i type in. Any ideas????

Tried that, and it didnt make any difference.
When I try to go to a site it says " Cannot Connect: Cannot connect with current connection settings. To change your connection settings, tap settings"
I have tried messing around with the settings, but i still cant get it to work right.
I think IE is still trying to connect to the internet via AT&T's network service instead of going through wifi.
Under start>settings>system do you have a proxy folder? maybe it's under programs as well. Look for it. If you do, run disable proxy.
Also go to start>settings>connections>network cards>network adapters
make sure this is reads under "my network card connects to: the internet"
select your 802.11b/g and make it "use server assigned ip address"
Hopefully that helps
hey man thanks for the tips, but it still is not working.
I found my proxy folder and ran disable proxy, my card is set to connect to the internet and it uses the server assigned IP adress.
But now when i try to use the internet it does not give me the "can not connect due to your settings" message, it just keeps trying to load the page but nothing happens.
go to start>settings>connections
click on connections
go to the advanced tab and click on select networks
on the first dropdown make it "my isp"
with the second select "my work network"
That should do it
i think that worked. Im not near a strong wifi signal right now but i think its doing the right thing. Ill know for sure tomorrow.
Thanks Pedro 2K
I was having the same issue on my 8525 after going to 6. Seems fine now. I'll try from work on Monday.

well as it turns out that did not work. I still think it has somtething to do with it trying to connect to AT&t's network.
any other ideas?
i posted in another thread about a similar issue that i have and it is still not solved
some programs that use data on my device will not connect using 3g (pocket outlook using gmail), but they will connect when the wifi is on
it's kind of the opposite of what's going on with yours, but i believe the root of the problem is the same, because we are getting the exact same error message
i believe the problem stems from how/why windows mobile 6 organizes connections; which makes no sense to me whatsoever
under connections i have:
"My ISP"
"MEdia Net"
"Work"
Of course there is nothing even under my isp, or work, yet it wont let me delete them
i tried deleting them manually from the registry and that messed a whole lot of things up, so plz do not make that mistake
my media net settings ARE correct, but why are there so many different connections here, that arent even being used, yet i cant remove them?
what the hell is "MY Isp" ? I thought Media net was my isp...lol
this is confusing and frustrating
any more ideas????
Try disabling and data connections using this:
http://www.modaco.com/content/Pocket-PC-Software/246171/New-FREE-Utility/
This should make sure it is trying to go through wireless. Just a quick question, you are not connected to activsync while trying wifi are you?
ok, since you're using t-mobile, and only just want to use wifi, do this
go to start>settings>connections->connections->advanced
switch both to "my isp", click on edit (either one is fine), delete the modem number in there.
The last thing you need to do is disable the hidden proxy proxy. I dont know exactly how, cause i dont use the AT&T rom anymore, but its somewhere in the start menu, just poke around, there should be a "disable proxy' somewhere
@ surgex0
if you think that's confusing......on the tilt, they've added a 4th one.......AT&T ISP. But basically, whatever settings that was in My ISP, is now in AT&T ISP.
I just got an HTC wizard and have one question - is there a way to tell if data you are downloading is via wifi or from the service provider? I only ask because I want to use wifi, but fear something not working as expected and later realizing all the data went down as data usage on my bill, which would be a problem at this point since I don't want to pay for a data plan.
Furthermore, with AT&T the data usage doesn't get posted to the website for a few days, and by then it's too late to realize something was going wrong and I will owe them a nice amount of money. Not a good thing.
Preferably I'd like to say 'use wifi or nothing', meaning if there is no wifi connectivity, don't download anything. I'm not sure if this is an option or not though as I haven't seen it.
Anyways, any advice on this would be great. Thanks in advance.
Just remove your GPRS account from your network settings. (called cingular.wap) Also remove any dial-up versions of it.
Then the only way the phone will know how to access intertubes is via WiFi, and Bob's your uncle.
I'm not quite sure where this is at. I have a lot of network connection options. I go to start - settings - connections tab. Here I have network wizard, connections, wifi, wireless lan, gprs setting, and a couple unrelated ones.
Under connections, there is an advanced tab. I clicked 'select networks' and then created a new one, called 'home'. I then set that for both drop boxes. I didn't enter in any dial information for it. This got internet explorer working (it used to not find the page), but mentions mediaNet and stuff. I'm not sure if that just happens by default or if that means I'm connected through AT&T.
I tried to find a way to delete GPRS from it, but I couldn't. Under select networks, I can edit 'my ISP' which has name 'My ISP GPRS'. I can click edit, but do not quite see what you have. access point name is set to isp.cingular which I can change to some other value. I can modify username and such, but that is it.
I don't know. Just trying to watch that data usage when there is wireless LAN all around me everywhere I go.
Hey all. I've searched posts and can't find anything but what other people used for a quick backyard fix to get them past. Here's the deal. My phone connects to the Verizon Data Network all the time, even when I'm connected to WiFi. On my Apache, I could go into Settings, Connections, Connections and set the advanced settings so programs needing to connect automatically would use My Work Network instead of Verizon Wireless. However, on my 6800, I change the same setting for the same effect and as soon as I hit ok, it reverts back so it tries connecting to the net via cellular again instead of via WiFi. This isn't the only setting I've found that won't stick, but I can't remember what those ones are. Has anyone found the cause to this and the solution? Possibly a file that's write-protected and shouldn't be or something. I don't have a data plan and can't afford one so I really need this to change and still be able to get MMS when I need to (don't want to disable data completely on Verizon's end). Help!
Mod Edit: Moved from Titan Upgrading
Hi, I rooted my Legend over the weekend and installed the Cyanogen7 mod for 2.3. I didn't notice the lack of data connection because I was connected via wireless the whole time. I did plug in the information from my carrier in regards to the APN. The thing still won't work, won't connect to the internet at all, citing a lack of a data connection in all apps.
I looked all over the net for a fix, tried a number, nothing worked. Short of contacting my carrier and having them resend me the same APN details, is there any other fix?
Thanks!
If you already put in the correct APN details. Check the Proxy settings. It can cause problem when turn on/off. I had the same problem with CM 6, turn off the proxy and everything is green again.
called the vodafone people and fixed it. the info they have up on their website is wrong, the apn was supposed to be .com, not .ro.
oh well..
Hi, I posted in q and a forum bit desperate for a solution as I'm stuck on a train for 4 hrs with no,connection.
I have flashes the Gingerblur rom. 6.5 which gives me the free tethering apn. I selected it but don't know what else I need to do to make it work.
Do I need to select a specific usb connection? Does it need wifi enabled? If someone can please help point me in the right direction.... i know this isn't very complicated I am new to android and hard for me to find the answer from the phone
this is what I do, not sure if it'll work for you but you can give it a try.
Enable Mobile Hotspot
Then, goto .. Settings -> Wireless and Network Settings -> Mobile Networks -> Access Point Names -> ATT Free Tether (or whatever teh APN is named in Gingerblur, mines is from aRoot so its labeled ATT Free Tether)
Select ATT Free Tether, and you should be able to edit it. DONT EDIT ANYTHING. Just save it (options button, save) then exit it. ... mobile hotspot should activate shortly
Hey that seems like it works for me... the mobile hotspot icon turned from red to blue. But still no Internet on the lappy.
Does it need to be using wifi or will it work with the data connex?
Is there a specific usb setting i need
Thanks very much
does your laptop have wifi? You have to connect to your phone using wifi.
Also -- you should make a password for your hotspot. Go into mobile hotspot settings, and then wifi hotspot settings, and then configure your hotspot.
there you should see the name (Network SSID) if your hotspot. Set a password, and then using your laptop, scan for the wireless networks available, click on your hotspot, and plug in your password.
should be all set from there.
hey it worked! thanks so much, i was trying to connect using my usb connection...as this was how i did it on my old WM phone.
Not sure if i can make it work with the pwd, but for now i'm up and running with an open connection.
Thank you thank you!
