Need help with returning to stock firmware - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge Questions & Answers

Saw a thread in here about getting android 8.0 on my S7 Edge. Downloaded it and installed it through my phone via SD card in recovery mode and now my battery life is horrible, LED indicator doesn't work and the red light for the heartbeat sensor is always on (below the flash). Very new to doing this sort of stuff and just want to return to the latest version of of G935A of ATT. Tried wiping my phone through settings, recovery mode, and smart switch but always resorts to 8.0 which isn't released yet. If someone could give me working links for odin and the software update itself, it would be more than helpful.
Thank you.

You must have not read up on what you were flashing. People get so jump happy about the latest Android and it's still beta testing. I myself can't wait for a good preview version. This should get you back.

[Q] Wi-Fi Calling

Last week Sprint extended Wi-Fi calling to the Tri-band (Spark) S4.
I had the software pushed to me this morning, and installed it.
Now I have the Wi-Fi icon in my status bar.
It disappeared when I went out, and re-appeared when I came home and connected to the wi-fi.
I'm guessing that's all I have to know about it?
Does anyone with wi-fi calling experience have any advice or caveats?

I got the update notification this morning, and clicked install, and then the phone rebooted, but into twrp; I then just rebooted back into my sytem, but I don't see anything about wifi calling so I have no idea if I have it or not. I thought it had to be activated on sprint website.
I don't think it installed since you are on a custom recovery. You have to be on stock recovery if not the update will fail.

Thanks Daniel
I just realized the problem and did install the stock recover image file. Guess I have to wait until Sprint decide I'm a good girl and re-send the update. Checking for update doesn't seem to do a thing.

Actually, you can just go to your Settings --> More --> System Update --> Update Samsung Software, and after click on it, you can then redownloaded it again.
I was wondering though, does anyone know what this update file is called, because when I tried to install this, it says, "Rebooting now... - 36.0 MB" but then just sits there, and doesn't do anything. I want to know the name, so I can deleted it and then try downloading it again. A little side note is that I have rooted my Samsung Galaxy S4, and updated it to KitKat. It is now running 4.4.2.

please help September update

can someone post the update the sd slot on my phone stopped working after trying at least 3 microsd cards, i decided maybe if i flashed the older firmware it would start working again needless to say it didnt work and now my phone wont boot and everytime i try to flash a firmware i keep getting an error that says "sw rev check fail : {abort}fused 4 < binary 2" can someone help me out on this please
The good news is it is fixable, you just need the exact firmware you were using before (or newer.) It sets a version number in the bootloader and the firmware you downloaded has a lower version.
Unfortunately, I've been trying to find that same new firmware for 3 days now with no luck. (Keep reading though!) I'm trying to switch a tmo over to att, and since its going to be a work phone they insist it have the att firmware in 'official' mode - fortunately, they don't care what the paint on the back says.
If someone with that firmware posts the 'Firmware' page from Phone INFO ★Samsung★ I might be able to get it. (And if I do, I'll send it over - much more reliable than the official recovery method.)
You may have already lost everything on the phone, but I hope you were prepared for that. You might be able to fix the softbrick (resulting in it being 100% stock) with 'samsung smart switch' (win/mac) using 'emergency device recovery'. It will ask for your model number (SM-G935A) and serial # and then it will download and odin-flash the firmware for you.
I say 'might' because I tried that for the tmo phone last night and it eventually just crashed.
Forgive any weird disjointed text, it is early in the morning.. if some part of that didn't make sense let me know.

The firmware is available, but the source is questionable. As you discovered, ATT does not post their ROMs (just one more reason why they are THE Evil Empire).
Most are getting their files from a Persian site:
http://dl.pars-hamrah.com/ (switch to English)
And the G935A PI2 files are here:
http://dl.pars-hamrah.com/index.php...ATT4API2_USA ATT Android 6.0.1_4File Firmware
Premium fee is required for download and I have not looked into the cost. I have read that they are legit, but who knows...
Found it on clangsm.com as well, which is just as sketchy. I'll see what I can do, might have enough info with the filenames (and might not..)
Edit: Might just be too early in the morning (I'll try later tonight) but the info I need is definitely on that page from the phone info app. (I'm not doing anything magic, just trying a couple of apps.)
Alternately if someone wants to PM me an AT&T serial number (not the imei! always think REALLY hard about saying no if anyone asks for that!) I can see about listening in on the smart switch recovery.
It be great if you found it. Be nice to start from Sept firmware.

I'll text it to you later... Mine got buggered after the att update which I stupidly said yes to half asleep at 3am in the morning, the update does not play well with rooted phones, just hangs at the att logo and cooks the phone (got real hot real fast). I bought it last week after I melted my work phone.
Crap, i'll pm it it here, I lost your number with the melted phone.
Lol. Thanks! (Got it.)
I'll horribly abuse my w10 vm tonight and try to capture the info. If not he can get me the other info (and if all of that fails I might be out of ideas but we'll see.)

Missed this the first time through but you should be able to use Odin on the files posted above.
Sent from my SM-N930T using Tapatalk
Confirmed worked flawlessly with Odin3 v3.12
My steps for updating and saving data/config:
0) Unfreeze all system apps
1) FlashFire backup to external SD card, make sure to backup /data and /internal storage along with /system in case you need to roll back.
2) Boot to Download, use Odin 3.12 (the unmodified version) to flash the 4 OE FW files
3) Let the phone fully boot, go through the basic setup, go to settings, enable USB/ADB debug and unknown sources
4) Reboot into Download, flash Eng bootloader with the PrinceComsy Odin
5) After phone reboots and starts, run root
6) "Enable SuperSU during boot"
7) Install FlashFire, grant root
8) Flash fixes/debloat, let the phone boot, reboot for good measure (I find that the extra reboot contributes to success)
9) After reboot, flash Xposed, etc.
10) FlashFire restore backup
11) After the phone boots, refreeze system apps
12) Profit.
OMG!
I can't even begin to thank you for sharing these files. I thought I was going to be without a phone for a little while. You are clutch!
Did Sammobile stop carrying USA firmware? It looks like there is no good way to download and manually update the firmware on any USA Samsung devices now.
I was looking for this firmware and had no luck, so I went and check a few other devices I have and NONE of them are on Sammobile anymore... WTF is going on. why would they pull all of the USA firmware off their site and not provide any news release about it.

S7 will be unresponsive for a few seconds randomly

So I rooted and flash my s7 back to stock. Since then and after doing a couple of full factory resets and with no SD card in the phone's "recent" and "back" buttons at the bottom will light up, screen stays blank during this, then the phone will not wake up for a few seconds. Even if I'm pressing the Home and power buttons. Happens randomly.
I've used Package disabler Pro to disable all bloat ware, but still didn't help. Really not sure what to try next.
Any thoughts?
thanks
When you flashed back to stock, did you flash all 4 files via Odin? You didn't use Home_CSC, did you?
I believe I did flash all 4. But would you have a link for flashing so I can preform it again just to be sure. I didn't use the Home file either.
thanks

You can also look into the U-firmware. The latest build works very well on Verizon, and it's VERY responsive. You miss out on all of the Verizon based features, but everything else is silky smooth.

The one I linked is the exact same Marshmallow build you already have.
The U-firmware I mentioned is also Marshmallow. I did a short write-up with pros and cons in this forum a few days ago, along with a link to the firmware.
Finally, nothing that you flash with Odin on this phone will be rooted. The engineering (root) kernel can be flashed with Odin as part of the process to root the phone, but it won't flash a rooted system.

Some Substratum theme options weren't yet working. A few random force closes. Security Log agent messages from some apps. Lag in the notification shade when playing Spotify (so possibly any media). It's not like Oreo is a big upgrade, so I'm not in a rush to get it.

I just got this phone two days ago and have been away from the forums for over 2 years. Root is available for BQJA if I read correctly. Is that right? I just want root for substratum. Downloaded it from the Play Store and it's offering me to buy an add on for "supported Samsung"

You don't need root for Substratum. The $1.99 add-on does work and is probably required.

You can, but only by using the built in "my files" app.. Also go to settings>apps then tap the dots in the top right and tap special access and look at the bottom of the list. Do you see install unknown apps?
I hope they fix the theming issues, half of the icons get the stupid white border/frame. even when you turn off icon frames its stays. its the biggest reason why I switched back. This Beta is really stale this year. I have it on my s8 to and I'm not really impressed

I tried a different kernel and now both my.wifi and Bluetooth are working like a charm. Before on Oreo my wifi switch went completely gray and in order to get the Bluetooth to work , Everytime I had to do a network reset. But now it's working great.
I had another issue, my security was pattern unlock and it would take a minute for it to unlock and sometimes in between the screen would turn off, that problem also got solved with the kernel .

You do not have the same issue as us and as far as I'm aware a kernel swap would mean our devices had to be routed.
