Hello all!
A few weeks ago I purchased the startech slimport cable/adapter. My original goal for purchasing it was to be able to better test an hdtv I was in the market for. Turns out when I was ready to go shopping I didn't have the cable with me so I wasn't able to test use it. Fastforward a week or two and I finally get to try it. It didn't work. At the time my Nexus was running on Droyd's kitkat rom (along with the kernel that came with it). I think nothing at all would happen whenever I would plug it in. I did some reading/research and saw that people were mentionning having problems with Slimport, especially when using new versions of custom roms. People were mentionning having issues with the earlier releases of CM but that it was later fixed. I then decided to flash CM 10.1.3-mako stable from sept 23rd but Slimport still doesn't work. I noticed though that my phone now gets rotation locked to landscape whenever I plug the Slimport/HDMI cable into it but I still get the no signal message on my TV. I've read some people mention that they've had issues when they were using a cable that is not HDMI 1.4 (I'm not sure if my cable is, I got it at the dollar store). Have other people had the same issue? Has anybody gotten Slimport to work with this version of CM? Can anybody confirm me a custom ROM with which they've had success using slimport? I tried looking in the slimport review thread but it has gotten so big and I don't really have the time to read all of it.
Thanks!
Nvm, I got it to work. My first cable was a 6ft cable and I now purchased a 3ft one. It now works perfectly!
Hi folks,
I have CM12 running on my Note 3 (temasek's build however for the purpose of this problem I don't see it matters vs standard HLTE CM12 variant).
When I plug in my Samsung MHL 2.0 adapter into my phone. Back on CM11, everything worked, audio and 1080p video via HDMI worked no problem.
With CM12 however, I get only video. No audio is being transmitted over HDMI. It still comes out of the loudspeaker of the phone.
Is there a potential setting I've overlooked or something new in Lollipop/CM12 that broke audio over MHL?
Anybody worked with this themselves or found a way around? Or is this just a bug in CM12?
Thanks,
Sam

Report it as a bug. Cm12 is still in "beta" state.
I'm planning to buy a HiFiMeDIY Sabre Android USB DAC and would like to know if it is compatible with our device
I'm currently on Resurrection Remix 5.8.2
Thanks in advance.
Hi,
I would like to bump this thread. What I did found out, that for now, Redmi 2 can pass audio through usb only with usb audio player pro - without this app, with DAC connected to microUSB, sound still goes through speakers o minijack. In theory, in base on this document https://source.android.com/devices/audio/usb, most of audio_config files in recent Oreo roms, have this lines of code in kernel. But still, running for example LineageOS 15.1, this problem still appears. Can anyone answer, what could be a reason for that and/or have idea how to debug this problem?
No audio over HDMI is a deal breaker for me.
The PC I am using it with is connected to a TV via HDMI, there is no other option for audio or video.
Any suggestions or solutions to this issue?
This problem is present in Android-x86 too, and Windows too (idk why), Added to the bug tracker.
I didn't try Remix OS, but I remember that it had a wide-range of drivers implented into it.
Just updated to 3.01.64 and still have no audio over HDMI.
What did you decide to use instead since this has no audio? Just curious. I installed and have the same problem.
Hello y'all,
I recently discovered by accident that when I tried plugging in my PS4 controller through the USB-C port the phone was showing headphones icon in the status bar. And sure enough, the audio wasn't coming from the phone. So can anyone test this out since I don't have any USB-C headphones, but I always wanted them.
Thanks to anyone participating in this test.
Write your results here.
Audio through USB-C works at least since Android 8.1. I've USB-C mini DAC (Hidizs Sonata HD) and works perfectly. Also I tested Nobsound NS-10g USB input via USB host adapter and also works. So, isn't a new feature of 9.0 update, if you are thinking so.
I've been using fulla schiit 2, usb audio works on 8.1

Actually yes, I was thinking it's new because when I tried my friends USB C headphones it didn't respond.
But thank you for clarifying me! Your response is appreciated.

Does your Hidizs Sonata work also with Android Pie? I've just got Sonata II and it works only if I connect it within one minute after reboot. After that the phone ignores it and acts like nothing has been connected (but the phone is powering the dongle as I see increased draw in logcat and hear a very faint click in the headphones). So if I want to listen via Sonata, I must connect it first and reboot the phone, then it works perfectly. I tried all the available firmwares for Sonata, it does the same with all of them. With the PC or Huawei phone it works whenever I connect the dongle, so it most probably isn't faulty USB DAC, but rather something in the phone. Also I'm missing the option "Audio source" in the USB options in the phone's settings completely, if it makes any difference/sense.

Yes, my unit works perfectly with Android Pie, stock and custom ROM. What build are you using? Maybe something is corrupt

I'm no stock Android Pie, tried the adapter with February patch. Unfortunately adapter just stopped working with all of my devices (got really hot and then died completely), so can't verify with March update.
I'm going to visit an Apple store and try their USB-C - 3.5mm adapter, it is being said to be of a very high quality and is just 10USD/EUR and available locally, so I don't have to wait more than a month for delivery of another Hidizs from China.
Apple dongle behaves the same. Working when connected within ~1 minute after reboot, won't work on later (re)connection. I tried a different kernel to no avail. Would love to know why is it happening.
Edit: it happens that I'm forgetful, see explanation below
Oh my.. I'm stupid guys, I totally forgot that I configured recommended workaround "disable USB host" for 70000.USB wakelock couple of months ago. It was running one minute after boot via Tasker, no wonders I was experiencing this. Dongle works completely fine now (except of volume buttons on the Apple DAC). Sorry for stupid confusion.
