Does anyone know if VS980 works with SlimPort adapter? I have a VS980 but I flashed it with T-Mobile custom firmware. I bought a cheap Slimport adapter from Amazon but it does not work. On the other hand, it works on my T-Mobile LG G4 (H811). So it is not clear to me whether it is the adapter or my G2's problem.
Answering my own question here. The G2 works fine with the same (Kanex) adapter. I took the clue from one of the Amazon review that this adapter needs a better HDMI cable. After swapping to a thicker HDMI cable, it just worked.
Update on update. It seems it is not related to the HDMI cable. I tried the old cable and it still works. It could be some security policy (I removed a certificate which prevents me from disabling screen lock)

Has anyone had any luck with getting TV Out to work with their S4 Active? Has anyone even tried to see if it works? If you got it to work what adapter did you use? I just tried with this PNY adapter I bought with no luck, and I was wondering if anyone else has tried.
*edit*
Seems I got the wrong adapter. Didn't realize there were 5 pin adapters for the older phones and 11 pin adapters for the newer phones.
Ok so I went out and got the correct MHL to HDMI adapter and I attempted to connect my phone to my monitor -- an ASUS VX238H -- using three different HDMI Cables. First I tried a Spyder C Class HDMI cable followed by a Belkin HDMI cable my phonee recognized being plugged into a HDMI cable but my monitor didn't detect any signal. I just now tried this off brand HDMI cable I had and when I plugged it in my monitor went black (It has two HDMI ports with my computer plugged into HDMI1 and my phone plugged into HDMI2). So my question is is there a specific type of cable I have to use or some feature some HDMI clables have that I don't want to use (such as Ethernet)?

I don't know if anybody else does it that way but I actually use my LG V20 like a computer. I did the same with my LG G4 using SlimPort.
The V20 needed USB-C so I got that.
However, I have a pet peeve.. both of them would initially show 2K resolution (2560x1440) on my monitor. Then it would downscale to 640x480 and everything got fuzzy on the screen.
I would have to take it to the Samsung television (1080p) and it would "reset" then I'd go back to my 2K monitor and hook it up and it'd show beautifully until I turn it off then it goes back to 640x480.
Anybody having that problem?

What cable/adapter are you using? Have only found 1 that actually states it works with V20

The adapter is XtremPro.. I also have a Mokin.. both are the same in terms of performance. All the cables are the good ones but phone doesn't seem to charge with any of the cables I have including the factory, but I still have to have cable otherwise it won't run.
I've got this working on my V20 currently with this adapter
Select Series USB-C HDMI® Multiport Adapter from Monoprice (can't submit a link yet)
Everything looks huge and ugly, but it works with a mouse and keyboard. Just wish there was a way to keep it forced in landscape mode.

I think all you really need is a USB-C to HDMI adapter. I don't think slimport would work since its based on a micro USB connector.

Hello ,
Can you please tell me , your phone do not fast charge when you attach it to tv over hdmi ,or it do not charge at all?
I read on different forums that phone mdo not charge at all when hdmi adapter is connected .
Does the v20 charge when hdmi is attached? I do not need fast charge , I just it to charge
It charges, but doesn't fast charge
1. Can I just swap out the sim card from LG G4 currently on Verizon, put into unlocked G6, and it will work? Or is it a more complex process? Need to contact Verizon support?
2. Car charging, do I need a usb type c car charger? Or is it possible to get some sort of adapter for a car micro usb charger that works with LG G6?
More generally, are there adapters for usb type c devices so that we salvage micro usb cables? Or should we recycle micro usb cables when upgrading to a usb type c device?
Usb-a (the full size USB, like typically seen on a pc) to usb-c cables are readily available from Amazon, eBay, etc. If you have 2amp chargers already, they'll do a decent job.
Would this adapter work in order for old car charger micro usb to connect to LG G6 usb type c?

1. Verizon runs on cdma, which there is no SIM card for. The only reason cdma carriers use SIM cards is for LTE support. You can swap it out and get 4g data perhaps(as long as the settings were correct), but it will never carry voice, 1xRTT, or 3g.
2. USB-C refers to the connection only, and specifically the end which plugs into the phone. As long as you can go from USB-A(the "normal" USB plug) to USB-C, it theoretically doesn't matter how many adapters it goes through.
Your old cables/chargers with an adapter should work fine, it just may not be able to support faster charging like quick charge 3.
If you're going to buy adapters, though, there's not usually much price difference, and you might as well just get the whole cable.(unless you're talking about chargers with built-in cables, obviously then you need the adapter)

1. From my experience, yes. The issue you see with activating a phone is related to the SIM. If you have an already activated SIM and stick it in a supported Verizon device you're golden. For me, I had to down size my SIM with a scissor to fit the smaller SIM on my Moto X and it worked without any extra activation or messing around.
2. USB C is just the shape of the phone side of the cable, how you connect from the charger doesn't matter EXCEPT for the power output. Charge speed depends on the power of the charger and, secondarily, Quick charging can be subjective to the phone and charger being compatible.

The reason to consider adapters is that I still own a Nexus 7 (2013 version) that is on micro usb. So unless that gets replaced with an Android tablet that uses usb type c there will still be a need to keep some micro usb cables. Then of course the adapters would allow these cables to be swapped back and forth between the Nexus 7 and the LG G6 as needed. Anyway, I think the adapters from amazon in the post above are cheap enough to be worth a try.

Sounds good to me. Always good to have options
I can confirm those adapters work. I use the wall charger that came with the G6. But with a micro usb cable, as I charge other things on it. and I still get my quick charge.
On the sim thing it should work. When my G4 got the boot loop issue, lasted 22 months GRRR. I put that sim card into my old phone and was able to get 4G, texts, and send/receive phone calls. Then again they both were Verizon phones
Update: LG G4 uses micro sim, LG G6 uses nano sim. The latter is smaller in size and you can't fit this into the LG G6. So it appears I will need a new sim card from Verizon in order to get the LG G6 working.
I have a Fiio E17K and I cannot get the device to work via USB OTG. I tried two different cables to no avail. When plugged, it lists the generic USB options, i.e. Power Supply. I confirmed the DAC works on my old LG G3.
Has anyone gotten a portable DAC to work on their phone through USB OTG?
Just select Midi device when prompted then you're good to go.
I'm using Soundblaster E3.
When I select Midi device, it immediately switches back to Power Supply. I tried 3 different cables from different brands to no avail. I can confirm the amp/dac works on the LG G4 with no issues.
I have the Canadian LG G6 and can confirm USB OTG works in general, when I used an adaptor to use a mouse.
Has anyone figured out a solution? I need to select MIDI for Fiio Q1 to be recognized and then it switches back to Power Supply.

I managed to get my hand on another USB-C phone (Asus ZenFone3) to rule out a cable issue. DAC worked with no issues, so it is definitely a G6 issue. I'm hoping this gets patched or fixed in a future custom rom.
My Zuperdac works fine.
Hei.. just in case you are still checking around. It may take awhile for the LG G6 to register the dac. Therefore, once you plug in. let the song play. and probably wait for up to 30sec or so. O and another thing. You may want to try and select File Transfer. It worked for me also. They did mention for older device.. you can select MTP instead.

Yes i use lg g5 hifi plus dac/amp modul working well!
Two years later my LG G6 does exactly this...plug in my ifi DSD black label and it pops up to change connection type but it FORCES power supply no matter what you pic. And it drains the hell out of the battery. ANYONE figure this out. I see numerous post on this across LG v30 and the like do it too.
I used a Fiio Q1 (amp & DAC) with my G6. This DAC has a charge/no charge button, setting this to off prevents draining the G6's battery. This week I upgraded to a Fiio Q1 MkII, and this newer model doesn't have the charge/no charge button, and it drains my G6's battery very quickly charging its own battery. I modded a micro USB cable after insctructions online (I can't post links to external sites, but search for "Things that you want to know about FiiO Flagship DAC & Amp Q5", scroll to the bottom of the article), I opened the micro USB connector and soldered pin 4 and 5 together. I use this cable and a regular USB-C OTG adaper, and the DAC no longer drains the G6 battery. The "Power supply" mode still appears active on the G6, but no charge is transfered to the Q1 MkII, verified because its charge LED remains off and because the G6's battery discharges at the usual rate. I don't need to change the USB mode to anything else, just leave it on "Power supply". I then spliced the OTG adapter directly to a micro USB cable, shorting pins 4&5 on the micro USB side, this way I have a short, custom cable to connect G6 & Q1 MkII.
Then I found that Fiio offers a USB-C OTG to micro USB cable for their DACs, and according to them it's built with charge disabled. I purchased one from Amazon (can't post link, search for "Fiio CL06 Type C to Micro USB OTG Cable for Fiio Q1 Mark II Q5 M7 etc"), but I'm still waiting for delivery.
Hope this helps
thanks
Hello guys!! Just want to know if LG G6 can be connected to smart tv using HDMI cable. I searched it on google and it says that slimport was not supported by G6. I have a plan in buying a hdmi cable but i am not sure if it works.
Nope it won't work I tried it in the past.
Hello, as LG re-enabled HDMI over USB-C on LG G7, V35 and V40 with December 2018 update, can someone try again a USB-C to HDMI adapter also with LG G6 with latest update please ?
Hey booldega, i am planning to buy a V40 and need that HDMI out option. I found different statements, if it supports HDMI out over USB C or not. Where did you find the information, that it works now?
