Hello Friends
I myself purchased this cool phone with some serious hardware, and so you'll agree that this phone doesn't deserve a gingerbread. Thankfully, Huawei came out with the official ICS and it is now available for download here
I tried to find a proper tutorial to update to ICS but was facing a problem with the standard method, placing the app in the dload folder of the root sd card, shutting the phone down, removing the battery and then vol+/vol-/Power method.
I however found out an easier method to update, which is explained as below. Note that my phone is working fine, without any hiccups whatsoever.
Also note that I was on official GB 2.3.5, which can be downloaded from here, and installed using the same steps as below. I recommend to be on the latest GB firmware, although I'm not sure if that's the necessary condition.
Another thing is, I tried the below steps and was able to successfully update my phone. Whatever you do is at your own risk. This is a fairly simple and harmless method, but Murphy's Law applies everywhere
Backing up your data is, as usual, recommended.
Steps:
1.Download the ICS update from the link given above.
2. Extract the file. There are 3 folders named step 1, step 2, step 3, each having a folder named dload and each having a update.app file.
3.Open Step 1 and copy the dload folder and paste it in the root directory of the sd card. If you're confused which is the root directory, check this article out. http://uk.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20120315022047AAEuZhU
4. Turn off the USB storage.
5.Breathe
6.Go to settings - storage - Software Upgrade - Choose from SD Card.
7.Make sure you have charged your phone sufficiently. and confirm
8. The procedure should take some time, do not panic, and the phone will restart after a while. If it shows 'OK Done' but does not restart, pull out the battery and start the phone normally.
9.Connect the phone to the computer via mount USB Storage again, delete the dload folder. Go to the folder where you extracted the downloaded ICS update file, open Step 2. Copy the dload folder and paste in the root directory of the SD card as before.
10. Repeat the same procedure, as Step 5 and Step 6
11. This step should take a bit longer, so dont panic.
12. After it is successful, the android robot will appear, asking you to sign in and all. You might think this is it, but the procedure is not yet complete. I encountered some bugs here, like force closing of some apps. Hence, the Step 3 update file is important.
13. Again, connect the phone to the computer, mount usb storage, and repeat step 9. Only this time, copy the dload folder of Step 3 and paste in the root directory.
14. Repeat step 6.
15.I didnt get an automatic restart this time, so I pulled the battery out after getting a 'OK message' and put it back in booted the phone. And here you get the official ICS with a taste of Huawei
Sign in, and enjoy.
You can also root your phone for Superuser access, with the help of this article : (Check the root section) http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1736650
I'm new here, so if I did anything wrong please feel free to comment or correct me. Thanks!

Yep, but thought this would help many users who would struggle with the other method.
Im curious to know how you posted in the dev section with under 10 posts...

As I said I have no idea where to post this.
This is for u8800 PRO not the u8800. I really hope X5 U8800 non pro users don't follow your advice.
I guess this thread needs to be moved to U8800 pro section...
It was posted in the u8800 section before the mods moved it here.
Hi all! After sarchin' on the net (and haven't found anything good), I'll make a guide on How to unroot, unbrick 'n' lock your device.
BEFORE ALL
There is one problem: The rollbacks don't exist for all models, so this guide isn't for everything models. I don't recommend to use it for India, China, Middle East regions' versions.
You can find everything needed for you
HERE for the FRD-L09
HERE for the FRD-L04 (thanks to @matt914)
TESTED DEVICES
FRD-L09 (By me)
FRD-L04 (By @matt914 again)
Code:
/*
* I am not responsible for bricked devices, dead SD cards,
* thermonuclear war, or you getting fired because the alarm app failed. Please
* do some research if you have any concerns about features included in this GUIDE
* before flashing it! YOU are choosing to make these modifications, and if
* you point the finger at me for messing up your device, I will laugh at you.
*/
WHAT YOU NEED
1. Your device (that guide is only for Honor 8)
2. Your rollback and MM packages WATCH HERE
3. A MicroSD card and its MicroSD/SD or MicroSD/USB reader
4. Your PC (I've tested it with linux, but You can use Windows too).
5. Your USB cable
HOW TO
1. Download the rollback and the MM firmware from hihonor
2. Extract the zip packages, you'll find a dload folder and some pdfs (you can delete these pdfs)
FOR LINUX
3. Before all install the android-tools (google is your friend on that)
4. With THAT you'll be able to extract files from MM UPDATE.APP (thanks to @marco.minetti), you'll find lots of .img files, but we need BOOT.img and RECOVERY.img
5a. reboot your phone to fastboot (Vol-/Power while plug it to your PC)
5b. Open a terminal on the folder where you have the previous 2 files and type:
Code:
sudo fastboot flash boot BOOT.img
sudo fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.img
sudo fastboot reboot
6a. Your device now is semi-bricked (it can reboot to erecovery and to fastboot but it can't boot)
6b. Shut down your device (long press Power, it will reboot. Press vol+ while asked and boot to erecovery, than shutdown)
7a. Put your rollback's dload folder on the root of the MicroSD (NOT THE INTERNAL MEMORY!)(Use a MicroSD reader)
7b. Insert the MicroSD on your Honor
8. Press Vol+/Vol-/Power and it will start flashing the rollback
9. Your device still in a semi-bricked condition
10. Make passage 7 and 8 again with the MM firmware
11. Now it will boot up without any problem and with MM installed
FOR WINDOWS
3. Before all install the minimal android tool (google is your friend on that)
4. With Huawei Extractor tool, you'll find lots of .img files, but we need BOOT.img and RECOVERY.img (FROM THE MM UPDATE.APP)
5a. reboot your phone to fastboot (Vol-/Power while plug it to your PC)
5b. Open a CMD (with administrator access) on the folder where you have the previous 2 files and type:
Code:
fastboot flash boot BOOT.img
fastboot flash recovery RECOVERY.img
fastboot reboot
AT THE END
If you have followed the instructions correctly you'll with a device with MM firmware. It will download b380 and than b389 (for the FRD-L09 version).
Flashing the MM package will lock your device (not relock) so you don't need the fastboot oem lock [key]
Great Guide. if you provide direct links for rollback , it would be more easy

The rollback package definitely doesn't contain a file named BOOT.img. This file is only available in the firmware package.

No, I've edited the post. You have to use the 2 from mm package
For step 7 in the Windows guide, how exactly are we supposed to put the rollback dload folder onto the SD card when it wont mount the SD card? twrp? or do I have to take out the SD card and use it in a card reader?
edit: Thought I should add that when I go into Windows Device Manager, right click Honor 8, and choose browse files -> ( H: ), it says "Please insert a disc into CD Drive H: "

Oh bro they are from b122. u can extract them if u had b122 update.app
This is an updated guide for the Samsung S8+ (G955F) version for the new beta 4 released a few hours ago. It was a hotfix release for issues with apps closing.
I thought I would put this guide out there as this was the easiest I found and the bonus is that you keep your data and just upgrade over the top.
All credit to jaron vdb from Telegram. This is his backup and he has given me permission to use it. He is the brains – I am just good at writing easy to use guides!
Pre-requisite:
-you need to have a working TWRP
-you need an external sd card
Steps:
1. Get into TWRP and backup your current rom to your external SD card. We will need this later to restore the data and importantly: if things go wrong you can always restore back again to what you have now.
Once it has been backed up you will have a folder on your external sd card that looks something like this:
Name of your External SD card/TWRP/BACKUPS/ce04873839487e8383/[the name of the file you just backed up in step 1]
2. Download this file and save it to your External SD CARD:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MrLynlCYCtnkAFk7GMeDnigXSmA2-8hC/view
This is your TWRP restore file kindly provided by jaron vdb.
3. Once you have downloaded that file then you will need to unzip this file. Use something like 7zip from Playstore and extract that file you downloaded to this location you just created with Step 1 – something like:
External SD CARD/TWRP/BACKUPS/ce04873839487e8383/[the name of the file you just unzipped]
This is a very important step – you must extract the file you downloaded to this EXACT location.
4. Go here and download supersu 2.82SR5 to your external SD Card:
https://androidfilebox.com/app/supersu-root/
This is the only root version working at the moment – magisk does not work as of now. It is Supersu which works perfectly. It also has dm-verity on it so will allow you access to data in TWRP.
5. Ok we are ready to flash the Beta 2! Get into TWRP again
6. Hit the restore button and then go to your external SD Card and restore the file that you downloaded and had to extract. You will also see your other restore in there. Don’t touch that just yet.
7. Stay in TWRP and now go to Wipe and then go to Format Data and then type in yes
8. Stay in TWRP and now go to Restore and choose the first file you backed up in Step 1 – your original backed up ROM. Choose this file and then ONLY TICK data to install. Restore data.
9. Stay in TWRP and flash the supersu file you downloaded.
10. Reboot!
11. You now should be rebooted back into your original rom with the very smooth Beta 3 installed!
12. Now you have to make the fix so you don’t get a buttload of random reboots and Knox nonsense. Download Root Explorer or any build prop editor program from Playstore and change:
ro.config.tima=1 to ro.config.tima=0
and change Knox thingo to v30 like this:
ro.config.knox=v30
Mine was already on v30 but YMMV
13. Have a cup of tea.
Confirm working on G955FD
Can you please share b4 change log? I tried to search it but could not find it. I found change log for b3 but not b4.
See attached

First attempt at something myself (following Joying instructions - so they did all the work, really)
Instructions:
- two files required (6521_1.zip and 6521update)
- copy onto an empty MicroSD card
- put into your head unit and hope it works
NO WARRANTY. I AM A VILLAGE IDIOT. I TRIED TO FLASH THE JOYING ZIP AND IT BROKE MY RADIO UNTIL I REFLASHED THE ATOTO ZIP! I COULDN'T EVEN GET ADB WORKING.
<stop> I GUARANTEE NOTHING <stop!>
What I did:
1) Patched the boot.img using Magisck (using my phone)
2) Added to the S8 Ultra zip (download from dropbox if you get into trouble)
3) Used SignApkv2.jar (Java8) to sign the zip file (avoiding locked bootloader issues)
4) Copied the updated 6521_1.zip file into Atoto's firmware unzipped MicroSD and reflashed with patched boot.img
5) Installed the Magisck v7/22.01 onto my head unit
5) Installed kali linux and su into root
Copy to your own Cloud first (for link longevity):
925.05 MB file on MEGA
mega.nz
Compatible Firmware Versions: S8 Ultra (whatever firmware came with it, there haven't been any firmware updates)

I've formatted my sd card to fat32, unzipped the update file, replaced the 6521_1 file. but when i stick the sd card into the unit I don't get the option to update.
quick question before i even attempt this, by "following the joying instructions" you are referring to the link from zee russians right lol?
also, I've tried 3 differen't methods to unpack the zip and all of them are saying it is corrupt...
trying to get the s8 premium files from atoto now hehe
got everything setup I believe, downloaded the firmware and unzipped, patched boot image with magisk, re-archived it as zip with normal compression, signed said zip file with test key from zee russians lol... now in theory I would just place this on a microSD card and slap it into the slot and the system should recognize it? then install magisk after it updates? does the file system matter? ntfs? fat32? fatex?

This looks like you got the files for the s8 Premium from ATOTO. Would you mind sharing them?
Atoto S8 Ultra Plus (gen 2) Firmware Update from ATOTO Link:
https://www.dropbox.com/s/901k1f3o95kamb6/Update-File-for-ATOTO-S8-GEN2.zip?dl=0
Please kindly download the attached update file to your computer, unzip the update file, open the file folder, then directly copy all the files in it to an SD card( format of FAT32 or NTFS),
connect the SD card to the radio, and there will be an update notice popping up, click the "start" to start the update. Then the car radio will do the update automatically.
The total update will take around 10 minutes.
When the update is completed, you will get a notice on the bottom of the screen, and you can just disconnect the SD card, and the radio will restart.

connect the SD card to the radio, and there will be an update notice popping up, click the "start" to start the update. Then the car radio will do the update automatically.

Unknown Compatibility: S8 Premium/Pro/Other (maybe?)

This is what they sent me for S8 gen2 firmware update: https://www.dropbox.com/s/901k1f3o95kamb6/Update-File-for-ATOTO-S8-GEN2.zip?dl=0
And this is what they told me, " download the update file to the computer, unzip the update file, open the file folder, then directly copy all the files in it to an SD card( format of FAT32 or NTFS), then insert the SD card to the radio, and there will be an update notice popping up, click the "start" to start the update. Then the car radio will do the update automatically. " This reply maybe too late, and I also can guarantee nothing, still hope it can do a little help.

This Gen 2 file flashed without issue on the S8 Gen2 Premium S8G2114PM.
Has someone uploaded the firmware with the patched boot.img for root? Did i miss that detail in the thread?
Thanks
That gen 2 firmware flashed on my S8 gen Standard just fine. Have not gotten a chance to see if it's any different than what it already had on it though.

Before I updated the system, my Carplay connected slow, even with a cable. So I contacted ATOTO suuport team and they sent me the update file. After that the Carplay works faster than before, maybe that's one of the difference?
Hello Everyone. The update is gradually getting live in all the regions. I just got it in India. Below is the link which I captured via Canary app.

AP : N986BXXS3DUJ6

Also if your device is rooted/modified, it will fail. (unlocked bootloader isn't issue but firmware must be complete stock)
TLDR instructions, thanks to pernodpepper
0. Create backup of your device (SmartSwitch)
1. Download .bin
2. Rename update.zip
3. Place file on SDCard
4. Go to recovery (No odin/download mode required)
5. Select Apply update from SDCard and choose update.zip
6. Profit
Detailed instructions along with multiple methods to install. Thanks to Evil_Smiley_za and @AhmedMomen
UPDATE:
-This thread will be for sharing tips and help and update.zip/.bin files (when/if available) for the OneUI 4.0 Android 12 Beta for the Galaxy Note 20 series (Unlocked/Exynos)
Installation Methods:
ADB-method:
1. Download SDK platform tools https://developer.android.com/studio/releases/platform-tools
2. Extract the file in your desktop.
3. Inside the extracted folder put the update.zip file
4. Inside this folder, holding left shift, right click the mouse and select "open command prompt here". The command prompt will open.
5. Shutdown your phone and connect it to the pc
6. Holding Power and volume+ and enter into recovery mode.
7. Select "update via ADB". (scroll down using the volume buttons and select using the power button).
8. Connect the phone to a PC using an original samsung USB cable.
9. In the command prompt run the following command:
./adb devices
10. Wait to see that the daemon has started and that your device is found.
11. If you device is found, run the following command:
./adb sideload update.zip
SD-card method:
1. Download the bin file and rename it to update.zip (by going to file options on your pc you can select to view the file extensions. This makes the renaming process much easier and safer, and avoids renaming the file to update.zip.zip)
2. Copy it to the root directory of your SDcard.
3. Shut down your phone.
4. Connect any USB device to your device, AKG earphones could work, then press Power and volume+ buttons to get into recovery mode.
5. Using your volume keys navigate to "update via sdcard" and press power button to select it.
6. Again using volume keys navigate to the file "update.zip" and press power button to select it.
7. Update will start. Leave it till it completes installing. It will take some time.
8. Phone will reboot by itself and load android.
The update process will start. You will see a percentage counting. First it will verify, then patch etc. Do not move the cable, disconnect the phone or power off the PC.
Once the process is completed (it takes some time) the phone will boot itself, update the apps and log into your home screen.
There are two methods that you can use to get into recovery mode
Method 1:
1. Connect your phone to your PC (Make sure USB debugging is on).
2. Using ADB, enter the command ./adb reboot recovery
3. Wait a little and you should be in recovery mode.
Method 2:
1. Power off your device
2. Connect your device to a PC or use the AKG earphones.
3. Hold down Power+VolumeUp buttons and keep pressing them until you enter recovery mode.
This will not trip knox if done by the methods above
Don't install a beta unless you are fully aware what you are going into.
Don't install the beta if you want your phone to be stable, IT'S a BETA.
It's recommended to make a backup of your data before updating to the Android 12 Beta.
Important Notes:
-Rename the .bin file to update.zip in order to be able to flash it from recovery.
-A common mistake done by some people is that they see the file named update while its a WinRAR.zip file already, then they add another .zip making the name of the file update.zip.zip which will not be flashed successfully, So make sure you do it right.
-Updating to the beta is AT YOUR RISK, No one is responsible if anything goes wrong.
You will not receive OTAs again UNTIL you are on a firmware that gets released later for your original CSC, thats most likely not happening before the BETA is over.
Note: AngryPixel89 is my reddit alias.
is it OXM?

Most probably you will have to flash it using Odin but I wouldn't guarantee that. Wait for some time till some modders here figure out a way.
