S8 after Oreo, Secure folder problem ! - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

my S8, after updated to O:
when (and only when) wifi is on:
it takes nearly 01 minute to enter Secure Folder using Fingerprint.
tried other wifi, clear partition cache but to no avail.
Anyone suffer ? pls help !

After Oreo CRB7 when i want to enter my sec folder and place the finger on the scanner it reads it after a very long time too. Whit the pass code and iris scanner its fast. I have done a factory reset but no luck. Maybe if we use Samsung members they would fix it? I am writing to Samsung right now.

@pockobg
Self-answered:
Reset network setting, or
Manually delete some or all saved wifi in Manage Networks
will help !!!
.
Just wonder, the saved wifi have any thing to do with Secure foler when it (SC) opens ????

@haothienxxx
On airplane mode it is the same here. It is very slow again. I have deleted some wifi saved passwords but no change ?!? May be my problem lies somewhere else ....

Oh !
Then, just wait and wait for Mr Samsung

Same problem here.
Wifi or no wifi, always difficult to enter secure folder.
I've cleared cache, reset secure folder datas, no improvement.
And today a new thing is coming to secure folder, no more icons:

So strange.
And I don't even talk about battery life. Have a cable plug to the wall almost all day long...

My secure folder wont lock with the pin at all on oreo CRA5
Sent from my [device_name] using XDA-Developers Legacy app

Wifi
This happens to me also..
If wifi is on, the app takes longer with the fingerprint to log into...
When i lock the app and shut the wifi, and then try to relog in the app, it's almost instant like nothing happened..
Side note, when i move files from gallery to secure folder, when i get the security prompt to grant access for the transfer, gallery is instantly minimized.

CRB7 is actually very buggy. When I try to call somebody from Messaging App, nothing happens for about 5 to 7 second and after that the phone app opens and call starts to connect. There's this Secure Folder bug too. CRAP worked awesome on my phone though, never had any problem or bug with it.

I have managed to fix my problem with the Secure folder. What i did:
1. I have deleted all files from the Secure Folder and deleted also all the backup data on the cloud (you can do this in the setup menu for the Secure Folder) + settings for it.
2. Backed up on a PC with Smart Switch.
3. Flashed the 4 file CBR7 from Sammobile with CSC that clears all data and F.RESET checked.
4. Started the phone and did the initial setup.
5. Entered in Secure folder and did the initial setup for it.
6. Connected to the PC again and restored the backup from SmartSwitch.
7. Did the bio metrics setup.
After that i moved some files in the secure folder. So now it is perfect! It opens fast on every way!

So maybe you need to do a F.Reset. I too have hard times whit Oreo on calling and very high battery drain but may be this was because i never done a reset in 6 months time after all of the updates. Do a backup with Smart switch and make sure you have active Samsung Cloud and do a archive of all the important data there. Make a reset, do the initial setup and restore from Smart Switch. This solved most of my problems!!

Im new in this software terms.,
Can you please explain what are: " 4file CBR7 " and "CSC" .
After the update install i did a factory reset because i thought i had a faulty install and that's when i noticed the problem.
Ps. Forgot to mention, that since the oreo update i have many problems... high battery drain, and more to be discovered... and all these are from a factory reset after the update so there are no excuses now..

Download a firmware with the help of SamFirm_v0.3.6 ( search it on Google and download the app on a Windows PC). Open it as administrator and type at:
MODEL : SM-G950F if you use S8 exynos
REGION : DBT this is for the German version
AUTO : checked
BINARY NATURE : checked
CHECK CRC32 : checked
DECRYPT AUTOMATICALLY : checked
Click on CHECK UPDATE button and after that the DOWNLOAD button. After it completes you will have a archive with a 5 file flash firmware from Sammobile. First you will need to extract the files. Now you can load AP file in AP ....and so one for all of the other files in Odin and flash. You will have 2 CSC files. The HOME one will leave all of your data intact but we do not want this so you will have to load the other CSC file. And then do the flash.

Sorry for piggybacking this post, but can I use SamFirm to update my phone from crb7 to the current firmware? I updated my s8 exynos with Odin to crb7 cause phones are hardly ever updated here in latinamerica, but CRB7 has proven to be very buggy. Can I just download SamFirm and have it fetch the latest german firmware and update it that way? Will it break safe folder and Knox?

SPRINT Activation Bypass

FOR SPRINT GALAXY TABs - DEACTIVATION OF SPRINT ACTIVATION MESSAGE ON BOOT and ACTIVATE DEVICE NOTIFICATIONS.
Ok well the verizon method of bypassing the activation everytime you start the tab doesnt work (vol up once, vol down twice, etc. etc.)
I used the 2nd post in:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=866162
to try and deactivate the activation screen, but it bricked my Sprint Tab. I had to use the rom available here which messes up GPS and modem. But anyway foxmeister mentioned why not just go to the app and delete, freeze, it.
1) I used Root explorer and went to:
/system/app/
2) put the folder in R/W mode (look at top for button)
3) now look for -
sprintadroidextension.apk
4) long hold press it, either copy it and paste it in another folder as backup.
5) go back to /system/app/ and long hold press sprintadroidextension.apk
again and Delete it.
6) put the folder back in R/O mode.
Now restart and you should not see anymore activation messages!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! =]
Thank you to : foxmeister, sirmacbeth, rkmj
RKMJ stated you can try to use Titanium Backup and freeze the app instead of deleting it. I just deleted it and it WORKS =].
I also saved a backup in another folder so in case i need the app i'll have it.
I'll try to upload the apk for anyone who needs it later.
I made a separate topic on this because 1) i tried it and it worked 2) the other thread is confusing and can lead you to brick your sprint tab fast.
Finally!!! Something that finally appears to work!
Thank you!

Thanks

R/W button?
I can't STAND the activation prompt... until today, I just put the tab in Airplane mode, and rebooted. That got rid of it, but I have to manually turn on the WiFi every time i boot it. I'm in position, but can't for the life of me find the R/W mode button, or a way to change the permissions... lil' help please?
Thanks for this! Whether ot works for me or not, I HAVE learned something!
=IP IHI II IL=
is your tab rooted? Are you use root explorer?
when you get over to the /system/app directory, on the upper left/middle side of the screen you'll see a button that might say either R/O or R/W
Click that button, it will switch from read only mode to read/write mode.
It might say Mount R/O or Mount R/W, i forgot exactly how it was.
I don;t have my tab on me, sent it into samsung because I did some stupid stuff nd lost my GPS capability.\
Cheers.
Worked good for me. Thanks!
I'm still going to use my G Tab in Airplane mode for the most part however. I have a hunch it's draining battery when it's locked onto the EVDO network, and there's signal bars in the status bar at the top of the screen.

What is this activation prompt? I have a Sprint Tab and have never seen it.
I'm sure there was some sort of activation the very first time I used the device, but certainly not every time I turn it on.
after deleting the file with root explorer it came back again.
how to delete the file? the tab is rooted
Ok, so I did everything and when I delete the file it comes right back. As soon as I go back to the system folder it seems the program regenerates itself.
Now I am having a problem with the R/O mode switch. When I first open the program I can change it to Mount r/w. However, as soon as I get into the system folder and the app folders the mount r/o button kind of greys out and when I click it nothing happens.
any ideas?
Thanks! This worked well for me. Only change was I used Super Manager rather than Root Explorer to delete the file (since it was free and on the Market for Sprint). If you don't set the directory to R/W is seems to work but dfoes not actually delete the file.
My question now is do I have to be concerend with firmware updates. Will they reset this or fail to apply? TIA
I think I answered this myself - Can't get OTA firmware updates and if you try it tries to activate again!
Future firmware updates are problematic too I hear - they will attempt tp prevent people hacking or rooting the device.

Yes, you can get Titanium Backup for free through the market and freeze the app. Also, for anyone having trouble deleting the app, freezing it through Titanium Backup will produce the same result of removing the activation prompt.
Bump for Woot buyers.
I've been having this problem on my Sprint Galaxy S III. I tried this method but it didn't work - activation came up again right after reboot. I tried searching for activation disabling on the GSIII and this was the only thing I could find. Anybody have any ideas on how to get the SIII to can the activation screen?
ADDED
I tried moving the sprint_installer.apk to my newly created backup folder where I also moved the sprintandroidextension.apk. I checked and that file did not regenerate as it did for another user in this discussion. Both are in the Backup sub-folder I created in the /system/app/ folder. Could it still be seeing these .apk's in there and loading them anyway? I've even picked up the paid version of Titanium Backup so I could try freezing the file (free version won't let you reeze but I use TB enough I figured $3.99 was more than reasonable for use I'd already gotten from it whether it helped this situation or not) but for some reason, it refuses to see the sprintandroidextension.apk file at all but I was able to freeze the Sprint-Installer.apk but it didn't appear to have any effect whatsoever.

ICS for Galaxy S2 I9100XXLP2_I9100OXALP2

I think guys @Sammobile are really working hard even on weekend, one more ICS leak in less than 24 hours. I am kind of started hating this flashing again and again. But that curiosity is forcing me to do it every time. So here it is, I9100XXLP2_I9100OXALP2_OXA firmware based on Ice cream Sandwich Android 4.0.3. Its really hard to say as of now that what is new in this I9100XXLP2 when compared to I9100XXLP1 but still I think this should be better than previous one. I will review it in detail soon by that time Please check the installation guide as well as changelog.
**This ROM is still in BETA and may not be good for daily use. But if you want to try it follow the procedure below. Upgrading firmware is a risky procedure.. Please do it at your own risk. **

Have I just killed my wife's phone? (fw upgrade issue + unknown device)

Hi guys - please assist!
My wife's phone started to behave really strange:
- mic level during calls was super-low, but while recording vids: just fine
- started to be extra slow on simple tasks like opening sms messenger etc.
- sometimes I couldn't connect it to PC in order to transfer files
SO... I decided it's time to load new FW. It was also quite surprise because there was 5.0.1 release for her GT-I9506.
Declaimer: I have loaded FW via Odin multiple times for S3, S4, S5 and some other Samsungs so I consider myself quite semi-pro user.
I've downloaded proper software from site, new version of Odin and started the process. After just few seconds some error was displayed on Odin and it crashed. Phone stuck on Downloading phase with progress bar already displayed.
After a while I rebooted it and got this screen:
{
"lightbox_close": "Close",
"lightbox_next": "Next",
"lightbox_previous": "Previous",
"lightbox_error": "The requested content cannot be loaded. Please try again later.",
"lightbox_start_slideshow": "Start slideshow",

"lightbox_download": "Download",
"lightbox_share": "Share",
"lightbox_zoom": "Zoom",
"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
So, I dig a net a bit and I've tried following:
1. I tried to recover my old software with KIESv3 but phone wasn't detected (used XDA tutorial)
2. Tried to reflash again with Odin, but I got "There is no PIT partition" error - I downloaded some pit file for S4(9506) from some Indian site, but I wasn't able to check it
After above I read a net a bit more and wanted to check that pit file I've downloaded and... since then I am not able to connect phone to PC. I contantly get "Unknown device" notification on my Windows. What I have tried:
1. Rebooting multiple times Windows and phone
2. To start a phone in Download and normal (well, not normal now because of the error state but still...) mode multiple times
3. Reinstall USB drivers multiple times
4. Change USB slots - right now I am NOT able to use different cable nor different pc
5. Manually update USB drivers via Device Manager (I extracted drivers from exe file, but I got "up to date drivers" message)
After all it seems I am done. No new ideas whatsoever.
Phone is dead now.
I cannot connect it PC.
Crap.
Any ideas folks? Anyone?

You can calm down. Nothing wrong with the phone. This is just something that can happen.
In 99% of the cases this is solved by the following:
- use a different usb port when flashing with Odin
- Use a different usb cable when flashing with Odin.
Oh and for the low volume: Make sure the mic holes are clean. There could be dust in it.

OK it's alive AGAIN! So... It seems that she isn't really taking proper care of her phone as she claims to, because its' charging port seems to be loose a bit. I changed cable, set myself in strange yoga position also changed port and after about 20x added/removed notifications it stopped and allowed me to upload a system.

Hi guys,

Hi there shawqi_khoury
Wanted to find out if you have been able to solve the problem.
Im having same issue with my Samsung S8.
Thank You!!
Same problem
Same issue after Samsung software update on phone, but exact same phone without update works fine. Tried clearing cache and then deleting app on phone completely, tried deleting all previous backups on backup location on PC. Still get this message "Data is being restored on the device. Please try again later." when trying to initiate a backup.
Hi has anybody found a solution? Same issue on a S8+
I have the same issue on Note 8. Did you find a way to fix this?

I had this issue today. On my phone I found a background service running "backing & restore" and hit force stop. That resolved it for me.
Maybe a little too late to reply but I fixed this issue today on my Windows 10 PC. Below are steps:
Start (cortana search) > Type Service.msc and click on Services > Say Yes to UAC (Elevated) Permissions > Find service called "Samsung Mobile Connectivity Service" > Right Click Stop and Right Click start the service.

}
Then try to use Samsung smart switch.
Auuugggghhh
Neither one of the last two solutions worked for me. No background service found and stopping and starting the windows service had no effect. I haven't been able to back up my phone in months now, yet have the same exact phone with no issues backing up. Anyone else have any other solutions. I'd throw out this phone at this point if I had an actual backup...
Spoken to Samsung USA & Australia, no one could help, I was advised to wait for a software update (Oreo will be released soon) backed up to the cloud and to my SD Card just in case.
I contacted SAMSUNG tech support.
look for "SamsungBnR_ " folder on the Phone memory and delete it from your Phone. Once you delete it, reboot the Phone and try to backup your Phone to PC again using Smart Switch. Worked for me after months of failed attempts.

No auto updates & WW-14.2016.1804.305 corrupted Rom in ASUS.com. IMPORTANT

Hi. I am Rohith. I have recently bought a new Asus zenfone max pro M1. It was in WW-14.2016.1804.252 version firmware. I did not recieve any auto updates after many restart. And then i went to system settings and checked for updates it does not show the latest updates. after few days i called the asus customer care and told my issue they told me that the issue is from the updater server so update it manually. First i downloaded WW-14.2016.1804.305 version and tried to copy the file to phone internal storage it shows a popup that "the device has either stopped responding or has been disconnected". Even i tried to paste it in the memory card the same popup appears. I tried many times and from other computers also. If i try to copy any other file or any other rom version (eg:Version WW-15.2016.1805.309) copies properly. I factory reseted my mobile and copied the WW-14.2016.1804.305 version file but did not copy. I am technically expert in mobiles and computers but this gave me a sick. Then took up the memory card from phone and with the help of the card reader i copied the file and then moved the file to the internal storage with file manager. Then the update notification appeared. I clicked on the notification the phone started updating after few minutes the mobile was rebooting. After the reboot a new notification appeared " Update failed error. reverted back to previous system. I became very angry. I tried downloading the file many times and repeating the process. but end up with same problem. and then finally found that the WW-14.2016.1804.305 version file is corrupted which is downloaded from Asus.com. The rom zip file is damaged or corrupted i am not even able to open the zip file it tells me that the file is of unknown format or damaged. but the other version roms zip file is opening properly. I reported this issue to the customer care but they are not in the situation to hear me. Not only i suffer from this issue many suffer from it. If anyone suffer from the same issue please comment in the comment box. let we all can gather up and make an thread in the asus community. I have submitted the images below .

Asus has already updated to WW-15.2016.1805.309 .. download and keep it in internal storage & you will get System Update file found notification ..

I am on 14.2016.1805.235 and have not had any auto-updates since May. The strange thing is, when I tried the "System Updates", it just spins and just says "checking". It hasn't been able to connect to the server for over a week. I saw a posting on the Asus forum site that the Zenfone 4 Max (what I have) is supposed to update to Oreo in a month or so, maybe they aren't doing anymore updates to Nougat.
Exactly same issue...
Exactly same issue....i wanted to update because the lockscreen was not turning off automatically after 10 seconds (sometimes it would, otherwise it would stay on until lock button was pressed)...Does anyone else have the same issue? It is not fixed as of update Version WW-15.2016.1805.309
Same problem
Hey brother i have same problem in same device, have u got any solution? My phone is restarting duting manual update and not updating, please provide solution
S1.Download the latest package from Asus website
S2.Keep it root directory of internal storage
S3.Reboot
Now it will show"update detected" just proceed as usual and done
Note: if u download 050 (pie) firmware, it wont work.
Pie needs base firmware version 340(last oreo).So u must flash 340 Firmware.
