Hi there shawqi_khoury
Wanted to find out if you have been able to solve the problem.
Im having same issue with my Samsung S8.
Thank You!!
Same problem
Same issue after Samsung software update on phone, but exact same phone without update works fine. Tried clearing cache and then deleting app on phone completely, tried deleting all previous backups on backup location on PC. Still get this message "Data is being restored on the device. Please try again later." when trying to initiate a backup.
Hi has anybody found a solution? Same issue on a S8+
I have the same issue on Note 8. Did you find a way to fix this?

maybe the location of Path of the Backup files have been changed spontaneously.
The same issue with Galaxy Note 8
I had this issue today.
I had this issue today. On my phone I found a background service running "backing & restore" and hit force stop. That resolved it for me.
Maybe a little too late to reply but I fixed this issue today on my Windows 10 PC. Below are steps:
Start (cortana search) > Type Service.msc and click on Services > Say Yes to UAC (Elevated) Permissions > Find service called "Samsung Mobile Connectivity Service" > Right Click Stop and Right Click start the service.

"lightbox_new_window": "New window",
"lightbox_toggle_sidebar": "Toggle sidebar"
}
Then try to use Samsung smart switch.
Auuugggghhh
Neither one of the last two solutions worked for me. No background service found and stopping and starting the windows service had no effect. I haven't been able to back up my phone in months now, yet have the same exact phone with no issues backing up. Anyone else have any other solutions. I'd throw out this phone at this point if I had an actual backup...
Spoken to Samsung USA & Australia, no one could help, I was advised to wait for a software update (Oreo will be released soon) backed up to the cloud and to my SD Card just in case.
I contacted SAMSUNG tech support.
look for "SamsungBnR_ " folder on the Phone memory and delete it from your Phone. Once you delete it, reboot the Phone and try to backup your Phone to PC again using Smart Switch. Worked for me after months of failed attempts.

I've hard reset the phone, erased all data on sd, removed sd, removed WMDC, reinstalled WMDC, but it keeps crashing.

it shouldn't have to do anything with the phone, so I guess erasing the sd or hard resets are not necessary... which version of windows do you use? is it 32 bit or 64 bit? did you install the correct version of wmdc? and did you restart your computer prior to reinstalling wmdc?
If it's a BSoD it's very likely a hardware or driver problem...probably not something related to WMDC per se.
Can you post the details of the BSoD (AKA "Stop error screen")?
You should be able to find said details in the Event Log...
So I think there is something wrong with WMDC and my comp now.
Nothing else causes the crash but WMDC related programs. connecting the phone, starting WMDC on my laptop and/or reinstalling now.
Windows 7 64bit.
Ive had HD2 for 2 weeks, flashed few ROMS, and I've never had that problem until tonight. I wonder what had changed since this morning and now.
Sorry, I don't know how to work event viewer.
I might just do a clean windows install and see what is up.
Oddest thing...

I saw your post.
I said, I don't know how to work event viewer.
And yes, I've installed the correct version os WMDC seeing as it was the same file I used to install WMDC in the first place and that worked fantastically until now.
I don't know much about computers. that's why I'm here asking for a help because this kept happening only when I was doing stuff with WMDC.
The reason why I said I might do a clean install is because that might somehow fix my issues, so I wanted to do everything I can do first so that I wouldn't waste your time looking into my issue.

There's not really much to "work".
You hit Start, and search for it by typing "Event Viewer" into search -- it should be the top result, so you should just be able to hit ENTER.
Then you go to "Windows Logs" and below that "System" and look for the entry that corresponds to your STOP error screen.
If you sort by "Level" (by clicking the column header) you should be able to sort the most important entries to the top, thereby making your search a bit easier (pretty much everything gets logged in the event log...).
Once you find the error that corresponds to your STOP error screen (match up the time indexes), click on it, and that'll give you information in the bottom half of the screen.
Copy and paste that information here.
Here's a picture:

Unfortunately (?) my event log doesn't have a STOP error screen log entry in it...because my computers never BSoDs (properly-configured computers rarely do)...
i hate Kies!!!!!!!!! it just died on me >.<
now when i plug the phone to the PC it shows up as "Unknown Device"
if i connect to another computer, then it works fine.
the thing was working fine until i tried uninstalling Kies to install a newer version of Kies
Kies is the worst piece of crap. It is incredible Samsung can not get such a simple thing right!
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
This is insane!!!!!!!
it suddenly started working properly now, without doing anything on the computer
now it properly identify itself as Android device instead of an "Unknown Device"
Kies and it's crazy ness
i did not even reboot the computer
Screenshot of Kies working when it feels like it...

i found the solution for the problem ...if you are using any of launchers from market launcher pro or awd launcher u need to switch back to stock launcher and restart the phone after u reboot the phone with stock launcher simply connect ur phone to computer after that ur pc should have no problem finding ur galaxy s ,np
Why does it say: This device's version cannot be updated?
it's not necessary to reboot the phone
just run TwLauncher and it works right away, as long as the USB in the phone is not set to Debug mode.
The problem i was having was with Kies and USB port in the PC

It doesn't appear to be anything to do with the phone itself.
I just plugged my phone in and got the "USB Device Not Recognised" error message.
I unplugged the phone and restarted it, but my computer is still flashing up the "USB Device Not Recognised" error every few seconds - without the phone connected!
I think the USB drivers are seriously flawed. I'm sick of reinstalling them just so I can connect my phone, which has become my standard way of resolving the issue.
Either that, or I've had to completely uninstall and reinstall Kies, a number of times, which usually works for the first few times I plug the phone in before failing again.
Pain in the ass.
I'm sick of this - and I'm kicking myself - as I suspected Samsung just didn't know how to provide software, based on lots of stories that seem to float around online about them.
I wish I'd stuck with HTC now.
fyi, I'm running Windows7 64bit, which seems to be a common platform to have problems with.
i only use Kies to check for Official ROMs downloads
i don't use Kies for anything else
all my syncing, calendars and contacts are handled online on Google

Folks,
I got a new Samsung focus (Re 1.3) yesterday , followed a tutorial from youtube to install custom rom. Everything went good , like installing MAGLDR and later reset and installing ROM. After installing ROM, the guy told that teh SAMSUNG logo appears for a long time and we have to poweroff by removing the battery. I did the same but nothing was working on my mobile. It starts booting shows samsung screen and stucks at the following screenshot, i tried to connect it to laptop as it showed in screenshot, but even hours dint helped anything. Now i can only see the download mode , not even the format mode. I searched how to reset to factory setting, but nothing was found useful. I found two posts one with instructions and files are corrupted, one post with files but no instructions. please help me with this.
Thanks,
WY.

To "green" the port in the flasher, unplug the USB from your comp, wait about 2-3 seconds and plug it back. Just before flashing (after all are loaded).
As EnderPsp said u should always start the downloader first and then connect the phone in download mode.
i tried either way.. first attempt i connected mobile after loading the files as said in tutorial.. but start button was disabled and the mobile is not shown in ports section of the flasher..but it was shown clearly in system bar that mobile is connected and even safe remove was showing the mobile name. sorry to ask so many questions, its just in case it will be very useful for others in future.. thank you very much for your valuable replies.

Same problem here!
My G2 is recently updated to 4.4.2.
I have tried on several computers, different ports and no help.
On the first connection to a PC not connected before windows reports "USB device not recognized" problem.
After that every time I connect the phone to the same computer the phone itself only recognizes that it is using USB charging mode, it does not recognize the computer connection (known by the USB icon on android system tray) even with "Ask upon connection option checked".
Even when I manualy change the Android mode in Settings --> PC Connection from MTP to PTP or even LG software, nothing happens.
Definitely there seems to be a problem with the phone, but I don't believe it's a software but a firmware problem.
Please help if anyone knows what to do.
same here

My Samsung Galaxy S4 is "Rooted" long time ago..
But same like your problems a few days ago can't connect to Google Play Store..
What I'm trying is :
1. Clear Data the "Google Play Store" - Not Work
2. Disable "Google Play Store" and when asking for restore to original version "Yes" , It's working for a while but when Google Play Store Automatic Update Itself , this problems happened again.
3. Download Latest Firmware from "SamMobile" for my Phone and my Regional , Using Odin to Restore
4. Using KingoRoot to Root Again my Phone.
Until today after do step 3, Seems everything works fine...maybe you can also try that..hope it helps..

If youre rooted.
-Open root browser.
-Open etc
-Search for the file hosts
-Open hosts and add a # in from of the ip address of JUST THE LOCAL HOSTS. I.e.
Instead of 12x.xxx.xx.x localhosts
Make it #12x.xxx.xx.x localhosts.
-Reboot
