There are some jitters and multitasking isn't as smooth as I thought. Also, the phone reload the apps contents while multitasking. Didn't expect that.

I experienced ram management issues. Performance is slow and laggy. Performs like a 5 year old device.

Yeah. 8.0 in itself was a buggy release from Google (as is usually the case). 8.1 is super smooth but still a few rough edges are present.

I guess we just have to wait for a while for Android P. Since it is sure that Nokia 7 Plus will be the first device from Nokia to get the Android P update. Android P looks quite promising in terms of speed and performance with a mix of AI.
sad to hear this. Now im skeptical to buy this phone
i don't have any problem/lags... but i don't like animation, then have disable it in Developer setting, and feel of UI is super fast...
Multitasking isn't great. Xiaomi Mi A1 was better in that regard despite worse specs. Nokia lags when switching apps and doesn't hold apps in ram that good. Didn't expect that from a clean Android device. It's not terrible, but could be much better. I hope Nokia will do something about that or else I'll consider switching to OP6.
@K.khiladi, @awells845, @Y45
Can anyone share a brief video of the multitasking lag and jitter etc happening, i am thinking to buy this phone and want to see how much laggy it really is.
Good
After android 10 update everything seems to be perfect.

Some phones exhibit choppy scrolling, especially when navigating long web pages when multiple apps are running in the background. Rate this thread to express how you smooth scrolling feels on the Note5 under such conditions. A higher rating indicates that scrolling is always buttery smooth.
Then, drop a comment if you have anything to add!
With bloatware enabled, many processes creep onto your CPU load and make things worse than usual. Without bloatware, smoothness is a little better, but still choppy and it skips more beats than any phone with such ludicrous hardware should. Many weaker phones perform much better in this regard, which is disappointing. I wish reviews would mention it because as it stands, people have the impression that the Note5 is the smoothest phone out there. It simply isn't, it's smooth when scrolling through stock applications but load up a long Play Store list and other lists with plenty of graphics and then fluidity takes a hit that Samsung shouldn't be proud of. Hopefully further optimization will help here.

I disagree. My Nexus 6 was just as smooth if not smoother than my wife's iPhone 6.
Stuttering on a phone of this caliber is inexcusable. Especially with this being the 5th one.

I sold iphone 6 to buy big screen phone like note 5 i bought it. Its good featured phone no doubt and its fast too. But smooth? No. Scrolling is worse than ever. Like a 1 core phone.

Ah typing is difficult and also laggy in forums.
Btw when 6.0 is expecting to launch
I agree with others there is definite lag in this phone but not all the time. To me its probably Touchwiz even though I have removed it and I am using different launcher its fully built into they system. Sadly I got this phone for Samsung Pay which works great and I wont be rooting this phone which I am quite sure would help.
Too gain more customers Samsung should give you the ability at setup to include or exclude what apps you feel fit. This with the option of an OEm based rom or a Touchwiz based version would also make many such as myself happy
I think note 5 is not ready to sell in market. Ita down side of android. I mean its just a joke. Is that 8 core phone. Shame 2 core and 2 gb iphone is 5 times stronger.
Im not hater. I had s4 s5 all series but they weren't like note 5. Everything lag in scrolling.
Investing big money and we have no right to get it smooth?
Why should we ignore it? I really like camera and display is best in market. But i believe hands on performance is most important. For now im selling 3 days old phone.
Btw im using moto g3 i really liked this phone. Smooth and cheap. Unlike note 5

Well, lot's of android haters in here, that's odd. Anyway, I started with iPhones, went to android for a couple years and had all the flagships, switched to the iPhone 6 Plus last year, and just bought a Note 5. I think the Note is very fast and fluid. Zero complaints here. Then again, I rooted and installed a custom ROM and kernel immediately but still... When I used it in the store it seemed pretty quick. People are a little quick to say Android will never be as fast as iOS. iOS has it's own share of little glitches and hiccups too.
The launcher is fast, the app drawer is fast, apps open fast, camera is fast, fingerprint scanner is fast, this is a fast phone.

Mate, you're completely missing the point here. People are reporting on scrolling smoothness problems with stock Touchwiz, not some custom ROM and kernel. Of course performance can be better in that case. And nobody here is blaming Android. There are perfectly smooth Android phones out there with much less horsepower, which adds to the frustration.

I'm crazy with iPhone 6s scroll speed, acceleration. But I can say with you that iPhone 6s will smoother than Note 5. Just now 6s come with buggy, lagging iOS version. If you stay with 9.0, it is very smooth! After jailbreak, I can speed up animation. Only scroll speed is problem I'm finding out the solution!

But iPhones were never truly always butter without a stutter or bug themselves. As well as for many years iOS has had a large lead over all mobile OS's in app crashes.
I can't take the slow molasses type of scrolling in iPhone safari browser. I need it to be quick like chrome on Android.
Seems little freezes here and there but I think all is do to network and internet connection. Overall on internal looks great..
I agree that scrolling smoothness isn't what it should be. It should be up to par with other android phones. I got it two days ago and im really considering taking it back for the S6 but i really don't know if it'd be any better. Anyone used the s6 to know?

The phone does not lag at all. I just miss the fast response time when opening apps since I have to wait for a few seconds compared to when I was using my Huawei P10 or HTC 10.
No, it isn't bad at all. I'd prefer this than having a highend device with laggy UI.
i was shocked how responsive and fast the phone is for a midrange.
My Moto X4 has been running like trash ever since upgrading to Oreo. Very laggy scrolling and unresponsive to touches. It's sitting at 99% RAM usage all the time. I have serious doubts about 3GB RAM in the long run.

Did you try factory reset?
Even I am using 3gb variant of Moto X4 and I feel performance is much snappier on oreo compared to nougat. I used to face minor slowdowns on nougat, but since it's upgraded to oreo (2 months ago), I have not faced the issue again. My average ram usage is 83% and I face ram management problem only when I open camera, otherwise performance is good.
Factory reset is a good idea, there must be a dirty upgrade going from 7 to 8. I just wish there was a way to get a clean AOSP ROM on this thing. Coming from Nexus line of phones it is very weird for me to be running a stock phone.

To me my M9 was a touch slower than my SD835 S8+. My M10 LCD 6gb is faster than my S8+. Main thing is the K970 is solid and stable. No jerks or hangs so far. Desktop mode is smooth also. A lot better than DEX. Off-screen navigation button is great.
Its fast, but mate 9 pro feels smoother.

Yeah I am having some regrets also, games are not very smooth, also some jerks are visible and very annoying for a high end phone.I am hoping for a future update maybe 8.1 will be much more faster and smooth.
I am coming from iPhone 6s and this is new to me but everybody says that I have to give it some time.Maybe the google pixel is a better choice?
Ok. Here is what i noticed so far. Phone was factory and cache reseted with some trash apps removed. Only added nova launcher, Facebook lite messenger, viber and discord+ few games witch doesnt work in background. Iv been using phone few days. Its BLA-L29 8.0.0.129(C432). Nova launcher working great, system menu and overall ui working great, apps open fast with no choppy animations, stock gallery micro stuttering when scrolling fulscren photos, market lags alot, few games lag, few works great. Rest of system is working great and battery life is great. If you ask me il rather get 1hr off battery life witch is around 8h sot for little more smooth operation in said apps. Tested all with both resolutions and its the same so it must be some wierd throttling or something.
Same here, some parts of UI lagging....maybe updates work things trough
Sent from my BLA-L09 using Tapatalk
I had my mate 10 pro for a month now, lag is very less to nothing, its super snapy, this phone is blazing fast!
i notice frame drops while gaming (only play sonic forces though) other than that it is very fast, no real lag. i realise that sometimes animations seem to lag but it is just the animation, the phone itself and the action i am performing is very fast. (unlike samsung where i experienced not only animations lagging but also the apps/actions i was performing were delayed or i needed to hit an icon twice)
i think huawei needs to come up with a brand new UI.
they have a ton of good features but everything reminds me of older times. also they used to push themself into the markets by copying rivals especially Apple. I think this is what a lot of chinese companies are doing and it is fine but in recent years huawei has become a major player themselves, now they have to prove that they can do it themselves, can do it better
I heard it takes week or two for AI to arrange things and it's true. Phone is lot smoother now tho there are areas where it still lags....like default email client when opening new email. But nothing major any more.
I play only some 2D game(Vikings war of clans) and coming from SD821 phone I'm delighted with performance in it(lots of calculations).
most annoying thing is hill climb 2 stutter. but i have a feeling that crap drops frames on all phones
No faults whatsoever so far
Lineage Revolution works fine on highest details for 20min

Nothing out of the ordinary. Facebook (lite), Twitter, Instagram, Google Drive, Sync Pro, Sleep as Android, etc.
It think it depends on where in the world you live and which model you have. I have the TA-1068 and use it in the USA. I have the same experience with the phone as 3dcay. I don't know if it is the extra 1GB of RAM (4 vs 3), the lack of Chinese spyware, or what. The phone has been rock solid.
I own a TA 1016, has a great camera compared to my old XA1 Ultra (sold) even though this one has less megapixels, the phone is pretty quick (3gb variant) and runs pretty much everything I throw at it and it has a rock solid durability, I dropped it so many times and it holds up really well
All Rounder Phone for daily uses.
Good. but they should not remove Dolby Audio when phone moving 6 from 6.1 means not cutting features.

Poor RAM management
I find that apps need to reload very often. I am using the 3G 32GB USA version of the phone. Coming from a Moto X4 with similar specs, I don't find this phone very good at managing apps in memory.

I think the Nokia is a tad aggressive - it even manages to close my Calimoto app while I'm navigating (with the screen off, using only bluetooth audio). I haven't found out how to get rid of this behaviour (it doesn't happen with, for instance, google maps)

Makes me what Nokia is doing with their firmware considering the hardware in the 6.1 should be more than capable of handling stock android

$100 phones are smoother than this POS
Which model? I have the 4/64 and everything has been smooth.
I have 3/32 and camera performance Suck with third party software
Using a 3GB/32GB model and Ram management on this device is very agressive apps load very often it barely keeps 1/2 apps in memory and app opening times are also long. Average memory usage on my device is only 62% ? I wish they handled the Ram better and it would have been a great experience with this beautiful device. Stock experience shouldn't be this sluggish. Otherwise the device is good just need software improvements.
Is there any solution for this poor memory management?
Well the issue about the ram management was quite annoying but as far i can see it has been fixed with the January Security Patch update.. I am using 3gb Ram variant and can switch between my apps which i am currently using at a time without any issues.. You can't expect greatness but your day to day tasks can now be done with relative ease..
I'm having this issue still. If I'm in something like Pokemon Go, and I switch to Messaging to reply to someone, and switch back, it has to reload the whole game. My Huawei Honor 7X handles this no problem, and it's got very similar specs.
