The group is generally quiet on this one. I have a problem getting ActiveSync to work over a wireless network. The wireless network is otherwise faultless. Can browse the internet, transfer files between servers etc but cannot perform a sync to my laptop. The laptop is also faultless on the wireless network and Activesync works fine via the cradle. All firewalls and other clever stuff on the laptop disabled.
The symptoms are that a connection starts but never gets fully established. Then it all stops. I have recently performed a hard reset on the palmtop and rebuilt the image (for other reasons) but this problem has not changed as a result of this process.
I have filddled with setting the network settings to connection via the internet and from work but that doesn't seem to make much difference. I'm beginning to run out of ideas.
Any help most appreciated fellow globe dwellers!
Thanks
AA
Hi AlliterationArtiste,
I had it working on a previous PocketPc, and I think that it was having the ip address for the pc that made the difference for me.
You PocketPc probably only knows the name of your pc, and if it can't get that name resolved to an ip address anywhere, you are sol.
What I did was install an app called Pocket Host. It acts like the local host file on a pc. I put my pc name and its ip in the app, and then it worked.
I have since switched to dhcp which ruins the solution...

Just a thought, and worth a try.

You're a wizard!! This worked perfectly.
The whole thing was made more interesting because I run vmware on my laptop and so there are several ip addresses that the machine can respond to. I used to sometimes get a connection but now thanks to your excellent suggestion I can a 100% reliable connection
Thankyou
Hi, I hope someone can help me. I have a Belkin Wireless G router and an Orange SPV M600. I have tried to connect my SPV to the router with mixed results. If I disable my WPA-PSK I can connect with no problems in both B and G, as soon as I re-secure the router my SPV won't connect. I have ensured that the PSK is correct and tried the speeds at only B and only G. In the menu it says that my network is available then after 2 attempts to connect it then says that the network is unavailable. As you can appreciate I don't want to run my router unsecured.
All advise gratefully received

Hi,
Do you have the same problem with an other device like a laptop ? You may have a problem with you router ?
try using wep or mac filtering or both, both are very reliable. i have had mixed results with WPA on mobile devices (and printers).
I have ran into this problem as well. I have a Netgear WNR834B router ("N" router). I have to set it to b/g in order for my 8525 to connect. Otherwise, it just sits there for awhile saying it's connecting and then gives the same unavailability error.
Hmm.did you find a solution?
Hi,
I haven't resolved the problem with my router. The router works fine with laptops and only my phone won't connect. The interesting thing is, when I go to other peoples houses where they run wi-fi I don't have a problem connecting even with WPA. Thanks for the replies, hopefully someone will turn up with a solution.

Others have had the same problem and solved here,

I have been unable to fix with my wanadoo router though.
Hey all, I think Rim may be the only one with experience using Windows 7...so I ask...how in the world do you get WM6.5 to connect via USB to 7 and make internet sharing work? I've enabled data connections thru WMDC, and all seems well on the WinMo side..so I dunno what the deal is. Windows just tells me that its continually looking for an IP address for my connection, whole my Wing tells me that it's connected. Any help?
Hi Ashasaur,
Did you ever get anywhere with this?
I've been using my Touch Diamond (WM6.1) with Vista and surfing the web without problems... however having now upgraded to Windows 7 I'm stumbling at the same hurdle as you...
Having plugged the device in and run Internet Sharing on it I can connect okay to my ISP. At the same time, Windows 7 detects the appearance of a 'Remote NDIS based Internet Sharing Device' and I get a LAN connection under Network Connections. However, I can see that it is requesting an IP address using DHCP but getting nowhere...
Anyone with any tips?
Mathew
It works fine for me. I just plugged it in, ran Internet Sharing, and it worked. I didn't have to change any settings or anything.
Thanks for the reply ksj, I did eventually get it working.
In case anyone else has similar troubles, my solution (which I've posted here), is a simple workaround involving statically assigning an IP address as for some reason automatic assignment with DHCP was failing.

I have my Tattoo rooted with 1.6 (can't recall the ROM name) with build number 1.67.405.6. Almost everything works fine except the connection with my home WiFi network. It's a PPPoE connection through ADSL modem. Next in line is the Netgear WG602 v3 WiFi router. At the beginning I couldn't connect at all so I changed the router's ROM to DD-WRT. Now I can connect with the router but no connection to the internet whatsoever. I can ping my router through my Tattoo, I can even open the 192.168.1.1 and mess around with its software but no connection to the internet. It is only limited to my Tattoo as I can connect through my laptop, through my other mobile (HTC S710) and also I can connect my Tattoo with any other WiFi (Secured or Open) with no problems at all.
I tried with no Security, with WEP, with WPA-PSK to no avail. Any other clues?
try running htc mail while you are using your wifi throuf your tattoo it worked for me
What is supposed to happen if I do that? I'm trying it as soon as I get home btw.
Nothing happened
Hi all...sorry for my interference but this problem is similar to mine.
I'm going mad from many weeks trying connect my Huawei Ideos (U8150) to my home wlan through a netgear VG602v3 AP. No way to do this.
Wifi works from my laptop and from my girlfriend's laptop, but from ideos it doesn't.
I turned off all wireless device in my house, I tried with/without WPA, I tried open network from channel #1 to channel #13, tried changing ssid and I also tried praying .
There is a weak wifi near here: it is on channel #1 and its power is between -89 and -82db. My wifi power (data from kismet) is between -50 and -18 db and is configured on channel #11.
In any cases, even if I put my Ideos near to AP antenna the story is ever the same:
- Ideos indentify the wifi network
- Ideos acquire the IP
- I open the browser or the android market and...
- Ideos lose connection...and so on.
I downloaded from work wifi (crypted with WPA) a wifi scanner from app store: it shows me the neighbour's weak wifi and my wifi network which appear and disappear recurrently.
Please, someone helps me (without suggest to buy another AP!!), any suggestions are welcome!!
Have you tried logging into the router and checking the privileges for devices. Some of them have a security element that restricts the use of the internet on newly connected devices until the setting is changed. I had a similar problem with a new laptop.
hope it helps.
I checked every setting to no avail. I still think somehow that my problem is with my router or adsl modem which doesn't connect automatically with PPPoE and Android doesn't have any command or software to initiate a PPPoE connection.
Other than that... Can't find any solution. Until then, I use connectify on my Win7 laptop. The thing is that I have to keep my laptop switched on as long as I'm in the house.

thank you for suggestion. I looked in depth but I did not found the option of which you were talking about. The unique solution still remains change the AP!!!
WiFi and Netgear Router
I think I finally found the answer. It appears Netgear routers support something called WiFi Multimedia. Its a QOS methodology. I disabled WiFi MM or WIMM as its sometimes called, as well as Internet QOS and all my problems connecting to web pages, the market, etc. through WiFi disappeared.
Strange that older versions of the ROM supported WIMM (or ignored it) and newer ones don't. But that solved the problem for me with no real degradation of performance on any of my other computers.
Good luck.
when try to connect to wifi for the first time i saved password for autoconnecting but when i go out of range and again when i come into range it tries autoconnecting and frezees and restarting automatically.
temporary solution is turning off wifi in phoenix os. and again turn on wifi.
