Hello,
I have some battery problem. In the last couple of weeks my phone battery lost capacity. Today morning I find my glass foil broken across. Both diplays are hunchbacked. I am afraid they will break in half.
Have you ever met this one? Do you have any experience in this regard? Any advice?
Where should I buy a new battery? How long can I Use this swollen battery without damaging my phone?
(I can't attach any picture because of xda rules. I will try attach in comment.)
Thanks for the help!

Hello Btrabi,
i had the same problem. both screens were curved but without any crack.
but the accu burst the case on the small side just around. NO more live inside. No response to USB or buttons.
as i still had warranty i opened i ticket and send it to china.
for 2 month we had permanent mail exchange - they told me that it was smashed physicaly from outside. to shorten the story i had to pay 70 € for repair (but they just changed it).
i asume the phone gets to hot and burn down from inside. i've tried to build a governor to slow down CPU when hot.....
If someone have a good idea or solution please post it here.
thanks

Hello vombruch,
My phone working well after that, just slowed down a little bit. Now I ordered a new battery from china (from aliexpress). When it arrives, I will change it myself. I don't trust chinese service, I trust myself
Against heating I use "no-frills cpu" app. You have to root your phone to this app, but it's very useful: you can limit your CPU speed. -> less performance (still enough for everyday use), less heat!
I hope it was helpful.
hey,
i'm rooted. i tried "CPU Regulierer" because i wanted to have full CPU speed when cold and slow down when hot.
i bet it must be possible to take the linux governaner to controll speed by temperature.
no amdroid without root (

I have an XDA Exec which was dropped from a height of approximately 80cm.
It fell on my foot, then a Tiled Floor, which would normally be fine for any other device, however the battery fell out and the Phone no longer turns on.....
Any Ideas on how to resolve the issue?
The Fall was really, really, really low impact....

why dont you take it apart, and see if its visually fine on the insides?
look around, and you'll find a detailed service manual.....that should help!
btw, it isnt really hard to take it apart and put it back, i've dont it 4 times already to tighten my hinges!
San
sorry to hear that, Ive heard its a bit sensitive.
I agree with the above post, pull it apart and get an idea wats going on. just make sure you put those lil red stickers back untouched for warrenty's sake, oh and dont tell the repair centre u dropped it, just say it stopped working.
good luck
Hi,
I dropped mine from a similar height onto a relatively thick caprpet, and do you know what? The red locking device that holds the battery in place ACTUALLY SNAPPED OFF. i.e. incorrectly designed, the battery is too heavy for the plastic - go figure that things do not work on your device for a similar drop.
I find it so incredibly piss poor that such an expensive (and friggin HEAVY) device is SOOOO fragile!
(Also can't belive how pathetically crap the camera is, but that's another matter).

I disagree, i think the camera is good, compared to most other 1.3mp phones
OK - however, you'd expect that a top of the range 'phone' such as the Xda would use a suitably outsanding camera module. It does not, rather it uses a bog standard one as used by most other 1.3mp cameras - why would this one be 'better' when compared to 'most others'?
I think I must be doing something wrong!
Andy
i see your point, maybe the camera looks better because of the xda's lovely screen
...or because you've just spent £600 and you want it to be good....
Thanks for the Information:
The Unit has the Red Power Light when connected to AC Power.
This light is only present if the Battery is removed when charging..
The Unit will not power on with just the AC Power.
The Unit will not power on with Battery Power.
I'm hoping its just a Battery Issue
Interesring Development:
When I plug it in to USB with the Battery In it now reports as "USB Device Not Recognised"
i remember, this happened to mine once but i didnt drop it. i just left the battery in and put it on charge overnight and it came on in the morning.

I dropped my Exec exactly the same height as you, but fortunetly it's still working, but the screen is break, there are a lot pixel off, but i still can use it there is no hardware problem ex. hang, the only worst part is the screen.
Anyone know where to service Xda Exec in Asia?
because my Exec is imported from UK.
Yeah.. maybe you can use your warranty, but don't tell the retailer you dropped it.
"it stopped working, maybe there is software crash"
whoops... is that rite to do that?
hahaha
Hi all,..
My screen got broken 3 weeks ago. It didn't fall or something,..I just got it out of my pocket and the inside of my screen was suddenly broken...
Now it comes,..T-Mobile netherlands SUCKS! They said to me: sent the device to the t-mobile repair shop, and it will be returned after 10 working day's. Because I haven’t got much convedence in the T-mobile company I phoned them up every 3 days asking for a status update.
2 hours ago T-mobile said to me that the device is sent back to my house with a bill, and not repaired. This bill is for opening up the device to see what's wrong with it. (screen broken!). The T-mobile employee told me that the bill is 42000 euro's. This should be 42 euro's, and it's not correct because it is under guarantee. Opening up the device is free of charge because the device is less than one year old! Within one year the diagnoses for the repair shop should be free, but therefore I needed to send the guarantee ticket with the device for repair,..WHICH I DiD!
So,.. now I haven’t got my pone back, the postman will bring it with a Bill of 42 euro. T-mobile advised me to not accept it, and let it be sent back to the repair shop. They will have a look at it and phone me up when they know more about the problem and agreement. So another two weeks.... PFfffff
This is not the first problem I have with T-Mobile Netherlands. Some time ago I bought a GPRS bundle for 9 euro,..unlimited GPRS. T-mobile told me that it would be activated in 2 hours, so i used it the other day to be sure that it is activated so I would pay huge amount of money for the data. ....... At the end of the month I received a bill: 192,- euro for data,..They didn't activate it. Nothing I could do,..just to pay it.
So,... My advice,... not to go to T-mobile!

Hey everybody,
So I think that my HTC Wizard's battery is about to go.
When I look at it, it feels a little swollen. I think that it was flat when I first got it, but honestly, how many of us actually need to look at the battery that often? Got it about five months ago, and it was refurbished at the time.
Another thing that seems to indicate that the battery is dying is that when I'm playing a game like Spb Quadronica or Skyforce Reloaded, the battery level takes a deep dive (like 30 - 40%) after about 30 minutes of playing. These battery levels are from Spb Mobile Shell since I removed the T-Mobile application from startup that shows an icon in the system tray.
When I first got this, I was able to play Skyforce Reloaded for probably two hours before it reaches the same drainage. The battery looks like it was also refurbished since the black metallic coating was coming off on the end opposite of the battery contacts.
When it's at some inexplicable power level like 24% after playing for a short time, I restart the device (sometimes it does this automatically without warning) and it's back to like 78%, which is more or less what it should be at for that length of usage.
On a seemingly random restart, it will be stuck in a restart cycle going from the T-Mobile splash screen to the Windows Mobile boot screen and then restarting before it makes it to the Password window.
I try to use the same techniques when taking care of my battery as I do for lithium ions in laptops, such as power cycling (complete drain and full recharge) once or twice a month.
Should I be worried about the battery? Should I just get a new one since they're not that expensive? Is there something else that might be causing this?
Thank you for your time. Any help is greatly appreciated.
you should replace it. a battery gets swollen if the heat boils the chemicals inside it. that happens due to inequality in material density (which is caused by other electrical issues). if you keep using it it might pop if it heats up too much and spill all over your phone.
The battery is a goner, replace it immediately, before it leaks or bursts and create further mess.Yes! one more thing, don't buy a refurbished batteries,as you can never be sure about the condition of the battery, spend a little more and get a new and warranted,it'll save further complications and expenses.
Thanks for the replies.
Well, I got the refurbished Wizard as a gift. It was purchased from TigerDirect.ca. I guess that a refurbished phone also means a refurbished battery to them.
Have either of your used Global-Batteries.ca or any of the other their localized sites for batteries before? Are they reliable? I've never really been big on purchasing things online. I don't even have a PayPal account.
So I'm a little wary about using them to buy a battery online. Pretty good price though.

I do not know where you are at, but in america you can go to any batteries plus and they have the battery for the wizard. I recently replaced mine with a new one. I think it was about 30 or 40 dollars. Not bad considering that I use it alot. here is a link to their website.
www.batteriesplus.com
Well, it's only $18 CDN on Global-Batteries.ca, so I was hoping for that.
Just to confirm, I should be looking for WIZA16 if I only want the standard capacity battery right?
First some backgound.
In preparation for a big event where I will be using my phone for web surfing a lot, I pick up the huge brick2600mah battery. It works well and last all day. I forgot my charger and had to charge the phone over USB and that only seems to charge the battery to 75%. But that is a different issue.
So when I get home, I put back in the stock battery so the phone will no longer be a brick in my picket any more. (The 2600mah battery will be used for events where I need the power)
But the stock battery is not lasting very long at all any more. The capacity seems to be down 50%. I left it in my truck once and came back to find it almost dead. It went from fully charged with the car charger to dead in 2 hours.
A week or so later, in the same spot, I knew I was going to be out of ear shot, so I left my fully charged phone, in airplane mode to save the battery. 4 hours later and it's dead like a door nail.
I have since done the same and the battery is low after 6 hours, but not dead. Something strange is going on. I have ran the phone till dead 3 times and fully charged it and that seemed to help, but it's still not happy. It also takes 8+ hours to charge.
A few hours ago, I managed to hard lock the phone, so I pop out the battery. The battery swollen. Not Sony like, but like something inside is really pressing hard against the case and wants to get out. Note I am talking about the stock HTC battery, not the brick.
My stock battery problems may be unrelated to the use of the 2600 brick battery, but I figure it's worth bringing up.
Anyone else seen this? Can I bug T-Mobile about getting a new battery?
Any suggestions next to bury it in a hole before it explodes and kills us all?
If the stock as really swollen, you'd better contact Tmo and get a replacement. I think it might got over heated when you left it in the truck. Did you put it on the dashboard? Was that a hot sunny day? Any temperature above 60 degrees Celsius can cause permanent damage to lithium-ion batteries. Crystals growing on one of the electrodes (can't remember which) can penetrate the insulation and touch the other side, causing a internal short. This will heat the liquids inside the battery and when the pressure rise beyond control...
You need a new battery, batteries can swell like that either from heat or too high current drained. Might be a defect in the battery from the start as well tho (short-circuit waiting to happen or something, who knows?)

Any lithium battery that experiences swelling should immediately be viewed as a potential hazard. At this point you cannot drop it off in a battery recycling drop-off point (and perish the thought of just tossing it in the trash). I recommend you take it to a T-Mo store and demand an exchange for a new battery. You'll also be relieved of the responsibility to deal with disposing of it properly.
Nice game of connecting the dots. I normally put my phone in the shade when left in my truck for several hours. But I miscalculated the position of the sun and when I checked back in a few hours, it was not in direct sunlight and hot. Not too hot to handle, but toasty. Only happened once, but I guess that sure could be the cause.
The battery is not hot now or bursting out of it's case, and I have been using it for 2 months so I don't think it will be an issue recycling it. Is a T-Mobile store just going to hand over a new battery to me?
Bonus, I now know why the battery in my GPS only lasted 2 months.
Even if it's not in direct sunlight, the temp inside of a car on a sunny day can easily go over 200 degrees F... in many cases going up to 300 degrees.

As said 100% correctly by jashsu, your battery is basically hazardous. Keep it away from anything you want to stay alive (you, your property, your G1...) until you can get it to T-Mobile.
XDA does not condone this, but your best bet to get a new battery is to lie. If you tell them you left it in the sun, they're most likely not going to replace it. Play dumb and tell them nothing odd happened and you have no idea why it did it.
If you bought it from em and are still in contract with them, I'd be pretty shocked if they didn't replace it on the spot (even if you don't have warranty). Until then, do NOT use the battery, and be thankful that it didn't destroy your G1.

I have been still using the phone. Bloated battery and on. It has not tried to kill me as of yet.
Today I went down to the t-mobile store and told the guy at the counter that my phone was only holding a charge for 5 hours at most. He suggested a battery swap and if that does not fix it, a phone swap. I handed him my puffed out battery, and he handed me a new, slimmer one. He never asked for my phone, my number, or nothing else. Once again I am reminded why I go with the only carrier that does not offer 3G service in my area. T-Mobile service rocks.
I have a Htc touch p3450 and its Lcd display is broken its just showing white light and two lines when i switch it on. so i went to a retailer shop where i get the display but when that shop guy changed the display and switch it on the lower part of motherboard near display plug is heating up then he says its motherboard is short(problem in motherboard). So he told me to go to repair shop and check it there after that changed the broken display. What u people think its natural the heating up of motherboard or its really shorted. What can be the problem. Please reply. i need your help.
Thank you
Please someone help on my problem.
Hey, not sure how much use this is, I had my (broken) elf apart yesterday whilst running it just as the motherboard, i felt it did get a bit warm, this could be because mine is broken, or we could all have this as normal behaviour. It will be interesting to see if anyone else can comment on this. I'll have a look on my spare tomorrow. Does your phone work fine otherwise?
Thanks for your reply CaptainStu. Yes except this problem it is working. But it is heating so much that its battery is also getting warm because of motherboard heating that's why i am not keeping it on more than 3 min.
I am confused what could be the reason of it.
please someone help.....
Hey smarty, this could be a bit random, how much is your device heating up by? Whats its running temperature? If you can measure that, I could probabaly get hold of a thermometer myself to see how hot the inside of the case gets after 3 mins etc, or even longer. We could, i guess, setup so we measure when at a peak load of running a movie or something that is going to be using a lot of processing power?
It's up to you, if you want to do so, I will too, so you can compare and see how different the results are, I do notice that the battery does get warm, not hot, but I think that is just with all the phones I have ever had!
In any case, I'll see what I can find tonight to measure the temps.
Stu
hai
did u check if u have the battery drain (some times it may be because of the battery drain it gets heated up) ... if not then think u should go for a change in motherboard.. i dont think it may cost u too much..
a change in motherboard in england would have cost of 170, so that is quite a bit!
First charge your phone to 100% turn it off and wait some minutes till it's cooled down then try to overclock your processor to a lower amount (of Mhz), like 150 and let it for around an hour or two and then you just raise up each 30 min the amount of Mhz by 10. This will help your phone to get used to the heat of it.
In theory it works, as I don't have the same problem, I couldn't give you a full answer which works 100% but some guys tried this too and worked for them.

yes its because of the faulty motherboard. i contacted a best repair center in my area and there repair guy said its motherboard is short and if i use it in this condition then it will become dead and if he tried to get it repair then it may become dead and its display is also broken so the display will come around in 1000 rs and the repair guy is charging 1000 rs if he able to repair it so the total cost will be around 2000rs and in market it is available in 3000rs(2nd hand) in good condition so i left it as it is.
I tried everything to fix the heat, freeze, reboot issue with this phone after I bought it used. Upgrade, firmware, downgraded, custom rom..etc..nothing helped. I bought a cheapy phone recently for a back up because the Xperia X10a I bought second hand was that unreliable.
I took apart the phone down to the main board, removed the main board and baked it in my home convection oven. Nothing new, it's the snapdragon processor, it's also used in some dud HTC phones and others. The processor's soldering isn't that great in some and when it gets too hot it just simply freezes and restarts.
Baking it in the oven helped for now. It's functioning fully without issue and while it still warms up a bit, it keeps working. I don't know how long this will last as some hack reflows like this one only last a month or two, sometimes less. Others last a lot longer. Here's hoping. I did upload some vids to youtube for anyone interested. Go to youtube and search for MrSpywhite, or send me a message and I'll give you the links.
It's the only thing that worked for me to get this thing to stop crashing. I bought a new battery thinking that might help, it didn't but it's handy having a second battery.
Interesting solution, you literally "COOKED" the ROM! (Well, not exactly of course but close enough)
If you don't have warranty, give it to a bit more professional service, maybe they will repair this issue for few bucks.. or try to use soldering station with hot air to heat it. I don't think that baking it in oven is the greatest idea

I thought about those options and I did call around to some shops. Soldering station, a cheap one but still reliable runs $100. Many service techs charge $75 per hour, and quote a minimum of two hours with no guarantee it will work. For that money, I may as well go into a store and get another phone.
