I have an XDA Exec which was dropped from a height of approximately 80cm.
It fell on my foot, then a Tiled Floor, which would normally be fine for any other device, however the battery fell out and the Phone no longer turns on.....
Any Ideas on how to resolve the issue?
The Fall was really, really, really low impact....

why dont you take it apart, and see if its visually fine on the insides?
look around, and you'll find a detailed service manual.....that should help!
btw, it isnt really hard to take it apart and put it back, i've dont it 4 times already to tighten my hinges!
San
sorry to hear that, Ive heard its a bit sensitive.
I agree with the above post, pull it apart and get an idea wats going on. just make sure you put those lil red stickers back untouched for warrenty's sake, oh and dont tell the repair centre u dropped it, just say it stopped working.
good luck
Hi,
I dropped mine from a similar height onto a relatively thick caprpet, and do you know what? The red locking device that holds the battery in place ACTUALLY SNAPPED OFF. i.e. incorrectly designed, the battery is too heavy for the plastic - go figure that things do not work on your device for a similar drop.
I find it so incredibly piss poor that such an expensive (and friggin HEAVY) device is SOOOO fragile!
(Also can't belive how pathetically crap the camera is, but that's another matter).

I disagree, i think the camera is good, compared to most other 1.3mp phones
OK - however, you'd expect that a top of the range 'phone' such as the Xda would use a suitably outsanding camera module. It does not, rather it uses a bog standard one as used by most other 1.3mp cameras - why would this one be 'better' when compared to 'most others'?
I think I must be doing something wrong!
Andy
i see your point, maybe the camera looks better because of the xda's lovely screen
...or because you've just spent £600 and you want it to be good....
Thanks for the Information:
The Unit has the Red Power Light when connected to AC Power.
This light is only present if the Battery is removed when charging..
The Unit will not power on with just the AC Power.
The Unit will not power on with Battery Power.
I'm hoping its just a Battery Issue
Interesring Development:
When I plug it in to USB with the Battery In it now reports as "USB Device Not Recognised"
i remember, this happened to mine once but i didnt drop it. i just left the battery in and put it on charge overnight and it came on in the morning.

I dropped my Exec exactly the same height as you, but fortunetly it's still working, but the screen is break, there are a lot pixel off, but i still can use it there is no hardware problem ex. hang, the only worst part is the screen.
Anyone know where to service Xda Exec in Asia?
because my Exec is imported from UK.
Yeah.. maybe you can use your warranty, but don't tell the retailer you dropped it.
"it stopped working, maybe there is software crash"
whoops... is that rite to do that?
hahaha
Hi all,..
My screen got broken 3 weeks ago. It didn't fall or something,..I just got it out of my pocket and the inside of my screen was suddenly broken...
Now it comes,..T-Mobile netherlands SUCKS! They said to me: sent the device to the t-mobile repair shop, and it will be returned after 10 working day's. Because I haven’t got much convedence in the T-mobile company I phoned them up every 3 days asking for a status update.
2 hours ago T-mobile said to me that the device is sent back to my house with a bill, and not repaired. This bill is for opening up the device to see what's wrong with it. (screen broken!). The T-mobile employee told me that the bill is 42000 euro's. This should be 42 euro's, and it's not correct because it is under guarantee. Opening up the device is free of charge because the device is less than one year old! Within one year the diagnoses for the repair shop should be free, but therefore I needed to send the guarantee ticket with the device for repair,..WHICH I DiD!
So,.. now I haven’t got my pone back, the postman will bring it with a Bill of 42 euro. T-mobile advised me to not accept it, and let it be sent back to the repair shop. They will have a look at it and phone me up when they know more about the problem and agreement. So another two weeks.... PFfffff
This is not the first problem I have with T-Mobile Netherlands. Some time ago I bought a GPRS bundle for 9 euro,..unlimited GPRS. T-mobile told me that it would be activated in 2 hours, so i used it the other day to be sure that it is activated so I would pay huge amount of money for the data. ....... At the end of the month I received a bill: 192,- euro for data,..They didn't activate it. Nothing I could do,..just to pay it.
So,... My advice,... not to go to T-mobile!

I sent my Imate JasJar in to the repair company in the UK (SBE). The problem was an extremely loose screen hinge. It was so loose that the screen would move freely past the usual 180 degree stop. It would also click when opening and closing the screen.
I decided to email Imate and ask there opinion on what to do about this. They immediately responded saying that I should send it in for repair, and they duely issued me with an RMA number, and procedure for getting it shipped to SBE. All of which I did with no problem at all. so far so good.
7 days later, and I get a letter in the post from SBE, stating that they have found the screen to be dead and have replaced some screen connectors, and that it is not covered under warranty and that I now owe them £40 before they will repair and send it back to me. They have got to be kidding me..
There has never been any form of electrical problem with the device whatsoever. I only had a purely mechanical fault that I-Mate themselves agreed to fix under RMA conditions.
I am absolutely furious, as I have tried to get hold of the i-mate representatives on 4 occasions with no success. I think they are ignoring me now. And i cant even get through to SBE on the telephone..
What the hell is going on.......I bought this device at considerable cost, for the price of a small laptop, and it has lasted me less than 3 months, and now I have this to deal with....
Anyone have any contacts within Imate or SBE that I can talk to? Or any advice for me in progressing this further.
I dread to think what my JasJar will look like when and if I ever get it back. Not to mention the fact that I've been without it for 2 weeks now, and that is very hard to deal with in itself.
My advice to anyone who is considering buying one of these devices would be - what a great bit of kit, has its little quirks, but nothing you cant work around, well worth buying, only dont buy it from I-Mate, go for the Orange, O2 or T-Mobile versions, because at least you will be able to use there warranty channels.
I'd keep trying Imate. Be polite but firm in your emails, ask if they authorised the repair of the screen and state that as far as you were aware this has been done when there was no fault there in the first place with no authorisation from you...
Then
It might not be a bad idea to write to SBE enclosing a copy of your original email to Imate describing the fault you had.
State very clearly in the letter that there was no screen fault when you sent the unit to them and that they have 7 days to repair the device and return it to you in a fully functioning state.
Copy everything you have on this then pass it all on to your local trading standards... you must give a company you have issues with reasonable time to respond, so 7 days should be fair enough.
I'm presuming here that you definitely didn't have a fault with the screen?
If Imate have told them to repair it under warranty I don't see why they are trying to charge you, if Imate or you didn't authorise the repair to the screen then the company doesn't really have a leg to stand on and trading standards should be involved. I can't see why dead screen wouldn't be covered by a warranty anyway..
It's concerning me, my MDA pro is currently away to fix this very issue (a dead screen).
Lots of people have problems with I-Mate support. Look here:
http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?p=6599566#post6599566
oh boy! this worries me too as my Jasjar was already shipped to be replaced.
If it's been damaged in transit, then presumably the next step is to claim on the postal insurance you used.
Joe
warranty claim honoured, arrives back tonight
I've managed to convince them (Imate and SBE) that this is indeed a warranty claim, and they have now agreed to repair it as such.
They're trying to tell me that normally this type of damage is not covered under warranty, but will make an exception - this time only. (can you believe it)
All I know is that when I sent it in to them it had a mechanical fault that they originally agreed to repair under warranty and duely issued an RMA number. There was never any type of dead display (this is what they claim).
I've fought hard to get them to agree to repair it, what a battle it's been.
I only hope that when I receive it tonight, it will be in good condition, and look as it did when I sent it in, except of course for a repaired hinge.
I'll report back tonight when I recieve it.....
good luck.
I received a replacement MDA pro yesterday, after my screen died, under warranty, however the space key is dodgy on the new one, I'll see how I get on with it for the next week and decide whether to return it or not!
faulty, sent it back...ggrrrrr
Unpacked and examined it thoroughly, first impressions were.....very good, they have actually replaced the whole display case and hinge, looks gr8, and hinge is now very tight, as it should be. so far so good, but wait.....
Installed battery and powered it up......the screen is displaying everything upside down and back to front......can't believe it.
I soft reset it.....no difference.. I hard reset it....no success, still the same.
I even tried re flashing the firmware with factory imate release, but still the same......
I tried the screen in every possible position, but no matter what I do, still the same inverted bloody image.
I'm so pissed off. I've sent it back in to them for another round.
So much for quality control.
Will keep you guys updated.
I can add to this...
I do repair phones and there was one case in which Jasjar was rotating 360 deg and everything on the screen was looking as a mirror image..
If u carefully look at the manual u will see that there's a bunch of cable which pass thru a small hole and then again spread in the touch screen panel part...
the hinge is actually revetted and locked..but if somebody applies a bit of pressure the revet loses the grip and thus allows 360 deg rotation..
but by doing this it twists the wires so much that they get stressed and do not pass right info to the display..
What I did I untangled the bunch and I got back the screen working fine...only the switch outside(for taking and rejecting call when screen is shut) are not working....but everything is just fine...
so people at service center might not hv done their job perfectly
Re: faulty, sent it back...ggrrrrr
I sent an Imate sp3i to SBE and the hamfisted numptys cracked the aeriel cover when they removed it. Also, the chewed up the warranty sticker removing the screw and didn't apply a new one. Sadly I only noticed the cracked aeriel cover when taking it out of SBE's packing box 5 weeks later - I'd only done a cursory check on the fault repair when it arrived :-(
Warranty Issue
If you are going to check on jasjar when you buy it, it comes with a sticker in front giving you instruction to rotate the screen 180 degrees clockwise. When you try to rotate it the other way around, the coaxial cable that connects the lcd to the board panel will break giving you a white screen or sometimes display is there but touch screen is not responding. When the technician opens the device he will see it immidiately and from there they will consider it customer abuse meaning you voided the warranty and you will be charged for the repair

For the love of god....surely we dont have such stupid people in this world.
Latest Update: SBE say that the machine has failed quality control and is with the technicians.
They won't tell me anything more...I'll just to have wait and see what they blame it on this time. No doubt they'll come up with some **** and bull story blaming me in one way or another, and then try to charge me too.
Will keep you updated when I find out more. There is no sense of urgency with this company, so frustrating. At least my Sony Ericsson P900 is holding up perfectly while I wait.
I have to say the QC on these devices is very poor.
MDA #1: Clicking hinge, something to do with the plastic shell at the back where the USB port is I thought.
MDA #2: Metal plate not glued in correct and scaping my face during calls (it's quite a sharp edge)
MDA #3: Dodgy keyboard - keys sticking out and whole keyboard set at a rotated angle.
MDA #4: Dogdy hinge again, very loose, looked like a refurb to me
MDA #5: Camera fault - big white blown pixel in camera itself (not the screen)
Result? I got a Vario and took up the early Jan O2 Exec offer. Exec is fine by the way, but they creak more than MDA's (dunno why).
Vario is def. built more solidly. And the P900 you mentioned keeping you going just demonstrates the quality differences. A P900/910 is one of the few phones which will withstand a nuclear holocaust (probly) and is built like a brick sh*thouse.
Sony build em like Merc's and HTC build em like Vauxhalls (Holden for our antipodean friends, and Opel for our European friends).
Update
I've just been told that they're(SBE) awaiting spares from Dubai, but they cant tell me what's wrong with it????? so who knows how long this will take.
This is so frustrating, but hey I've got my trusty P900.
I've been told that they are still awaiting spares which should arrive by the end of next week. ???????? (They tell me 6 weeks to get the shipment in)
Can't f&*%ing believe this, do they send the spares over via ship? how can they expect a customer to be without a device for 2 months....This is a complete joke. Why don't they send them airmail.
They tell me that they have to replace the complete system board. Surely it would be easier to simply send me a new device??? Surely I can demand a new device?
I'm certainly going to get in touch with I-Mate again (3 million'th time), I will demand a replacement device.
GGrrrrr................
I received my JasJar tonight.......Yehaa, at last, only two months later...
Despite my reservations and lack of trust in SBE, I have to say that they got it right this time around.
They've replaced the complete system board and as a result I have a new IMEI number too. In addition to this, they had previously replaced the entire screen housing and hinge, so the phone is, and looks as good as new.
I'm in the process of putting it back to my liking with all upgrades/software/hacks, but so far all is functioning really well.
I'm happy again, i just hope it lasts this time around.
Thanks to all for listening to my problems

I too had a equally bad experince with SBE (7 weeks, 2 returns, 10 phone calls and the threat of reporting them to trading standards before my phone was repaired) . I can't imagine why Imate tarnish their image with their ongoing association with such a company.
Hi! I Love ( D ) my TD2... to bad my touch screen broke already (2 months after purchase) without dropping it or whatever.. Screen and phone works normal.
Im just curious if there are other people having this problem jet?
Do you guys think im f*ck'd? or does htc replace touchscreens within warranty?
if not; Does anybody know what the costs may be for replacing a touchscreen? And is it possible to replace only the touchscreen or must the whole screen be replaced?
A lot of questions , i know.. hope someone can give me answers.
Thank you!
new screen
see here, a similar discussion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=537654
if the screen broke and it was not your fault, warranty should cover that ... it seems that buying a new screen and putting it is easy ...
thnx for reply georgeono! guess i'll try warranty first.
same here...touch screen cannot sense any form of touch
Hm.. to bad man. when i put my phone under a bright lamp or in the sun i can see some kind of liquid under the screen(so i know its definitely broke..), same at yours? did you contact warranty jet?
i guess the screen is just not that strong, cause i have treated this phone much much better then my old htc touch and that touchscreen is still working..
my batt went flat...
I go home and charge it..
before full charge, I sms and it is not working anymore..
Soft reset or hard reset no use..
Next day, I see the "liquid" screen under sunlight...
I also take care of it well as this is my first pda and most expensive hp i ever bought...
Going to sent in on this coming thursday...
How about ur warranty, void or consider under warranty??
havent found time jet to send it in but i'll send it tomorrow so i'll let you know. .
I have had the same problem. I sent it back last Friday and have had notification on Monday that it arrived at HTC, but the tracking details they gave me don't seem to do anything. They say it'll be 5 to 10 working days before I get it back.
The engineer on the phone pretty much straight away described the problem as 'LCD Leak' and that was also stated on the postage label they sent through to me.
I found a short term fix for the problem before i sent it off: When you see the touch screen has the patch of liquid inside, use a piece of sellotape or other sticky tape and gently pull the touchscreen outwards away from the phone and it becomes usable again as long as no fluid is touching the screen any longer.
Hope this makes sense.
edit: I got my phone back and the same problem was still occurring - it looked like they had simply take taken the screen off and put it back on again. It has gone back again, but hopefully this time they will actually look at it.
hm i tried your fix but it didnt work for me ..thnx for the tip anyway!
Same like here I think:

I had to sent it back for a repair. Right now my repaired phone starts to get the problem again

i had the same problem and i can tell you this is caused by too much pressure on the screen. it seems the screen does fall into the phonecase and therefore free itself from the glass. take care with that phone in the pocket!! also the manual says, take out the phone of the pocket when you sit down!! i was shocked when i read that... i mean.. wtf.. what is the idea of a mobile phone which you cant have in your pocket???
haha , and they used to call it a pocket pc! too bad i havent read the manual BEFORE i bought this fragile peace of sh..

Your just a very unlucky man...
I really love my TD2 and it's working as it should be.
I do not use a case and have it just "naked" in my pocket (without keys and other stuff in my pocket) and its no problem, no scratch...
And i don't call it fragile, ok... it can break easier than a rock in your pockey but still..... I don't know how your TD2 is but mine cant bend a 1/2 mm, it's pretty though.
Phone fixed.... For now
I have received my phone back after a second trip back to HTC and it appears that they have replaced the whole frontage of the phone as a tiny scuff on the metal bit and a miniscule scratch on the screen have gone. The internals of the phone are the same as it has the same serial number and IMEI number.
Its all working so far, I've had no evidence of the fluid in the screen as yet and hope not to again!
Send it back and it will be mended eventually!
Had a similar problem, after 20 days the display broke (not on the surface but under it) because of...who knows, maybe direct sunlight since it was on the seat of my car.
Now, after reading the post, I see it's not a singular problem but also other lucky customers are dealing with it.
The real problem is HTC service. I contacted HTC Italy and they told me to take the PDA to a collection point along with a letter describing what happened since I asked for the warranty cover. After 20 days they told me I have to pay 126€ to repair my D2 because the service decided that it was due to my manomission (aka : you have lied to us). After some enraged mails I sent to them, they replied me I should contact HTC in UK to have the warranty. I decided to pay to have my phone back quickly but until yesterday no answer.
Today I sent another email and HTC replied telling me that the service center is closed for holidays until 24th...
I let you imagine how disappointed I am with HTC and they call it HTC Service Excellence.
Ok, it was my fault...I knew I had to buy the spare part on my own and change the LCD but I trusted the HTC name...big big big mistake!
Just consider those experiences in case you think to send your phone back to HTC service...I will never do this again!
Thank you guys, now I know for sure it was not my fault.
I have my TD2 now 3 month and I recognize the problem others mention. Although this problem is a fault, the system is not broken.
When the phone blocks, look for the "liquid" below the screen. It can be very small to fingertip size. The screen is not broken but the touch screen sticks to the display screen. It occurs by applying some force while using the touch screen. Of course this should not happen but it locks the phone or results in unpredictable touch inputs. IT IS NOT BROKEN.
It can be easily solved. Just wipe, with some pressure, with your thumb over the touch screen starting from well below till above the affected area. The touch screen detaches from the display screen and everything works again.
The solution would be a mod by HTC to prevent the two screen from sticking together.
I hope this helps by preventing people to send their phone back and foreward unnescessary.
Just send in my TD2 today for the same reason. Hope they wont simply "lift the surface up" and send it back to me.
repaired!
i had to wait a long time, but i got a message today that the phone is repaired within the warranty by an external repair service. Hopefully the problem is solved now, but im very glad to hear its not gonna cost me 200 euro's or so!
for the dutch : ondanks alle slechte verhalen over dynafix (volgens mij de gebruikelijke repair service voor een htc telefoon in nederland) is het toestel gewoon gerepareerd zonder onzin over drukschade etc. !
update
got my phone back yesterday , in fact they replaced my old phone with a brand new one! Totally free of costs. So i'm a total htc fan again!

Are you sure it's new? I thought they replaced mine as well (after a LOT of phone calls and hassle), but the serial number is still the same.
The counters had been reset, so at first I thought it was a brand new one...
Well i have to say i really liked this phone its ui is butter smooth and the screen is super nice, however after recieving my second replacement this morning i cant help but feel this phone is plauged with build quality issues. Both phones had yellow tint same degree purple spot is real bad on replacement phone and it seems to have some crazy banding I also found a small transparant circle in the middle of the screen like burn or something.
Going to try a third and prey I get a working one , but im already thinking i should swap to sensation as i dont want to be swapping phones looking for that perfect one, shame becouse for me this phone dumps on sensation however the build quality at samsung really lets things down.
first build was korea finished china 08.11
second build was korea finished china 06.11

My story
Hi there,
I bought the SGSII about 4 months ago. It didn't have the yellow tint, but i noticed (after reading a thread here) that the left side of the screen was darker than the right side. So, since i was on the DOA warranty, i decided to get my replacement.
After opening the 2nd device in front of the store's service team, we noticed the same issue. I thought "well ok, i 'll replace that one too." That's when my trouble started. Service team calls the store's manager, he arrives 30 mins later, and we head to his office. He calls samsung's service here in Greece asking if they heard any similar issues from other costumers, then he passes the phone to me. I was told that this issue isn't supposed to exist, and that he (as samsung) had to replace the phone for me a 2nd time.
I walk towards the phone department of the store, and to my surprise the employee there, told me that he didn't want to open his whole stock just for one client, if this issue keeps appearing. So in good faith, i decided to send it to samsung via the store, so they can replace it for me. I was told that this would take 7-8 days.
So, 1 month and 12 days later, after constant calling at samsung to check what happened, the device returned. Their reply till one hour before i receive it was "the phone is still under inspection". Probably an automated response, since there is no possibility that the phone traveled 504 km in 1 hour, and no it didn't arrive by plane. It took 12 days out of 42 just to reach samsung.
The phone arrived in a plastic bag, like the ones you keep food in the fridge. The case was still at the store. As a result, screen had a scratch on it. The best part was their inspection result. "We didn't notice any issues with the screen, but we did a full wipe on your device, just in case".
At this point i started entering rage mode. Not only i had in my hands written diagnosis from the store technicians that can see the issue, also i had a brand new scratch on my screen. The store's manager went defensive, and stated that if samsung's official response was that there is no issue, then there isn't one. No comment on that. (Note: i refused to sign the document that mentioned i received the device back from service)
At this point the store technicians kicked in. If it wasn't for those guys, i 'd still have a faulty device on my hands. After a whole day of making calls to samsung, the techs tried to explain to them that you don't have to be a technician to see a faulty screen. Yet all the replies they got where in the lines of "There is no issue, all SGS II are like that, its the screen's technology, and they shouldn't replace any of the phones" Exactly the opposite of what i was told.
So i decided to take one last action, to see if i could get my money back. I wrote a long email to the store's costumer support, explaining the above. As a result, i didn't get my money back, but i managed to replace the phone with anything else i wanted in that price. So with my 599 euro store credit, i got myself a Nvidia gtx580 and 8gigs of ram for my PC. Happy days.

Happy days.

Feel your pain there fella and wouldent wish that bad experiance for anyone, the fact you got a gtx580 and 8 gigs of ram kinda puts the price of the phone in perspective and why we shouldent be content with these faults.
well third phone arrived today still got yellow tint , also has transparent lines that run down screen and if you use screen side on there is also some weird banding taking place , this has purple spot as well.
Totally gutted with samsung 3 phones now all with same kind of faults marks on screen yellow tint and purple spot. I said i wouldent but will trying one more exchange tomorrow then giving up on this phone.
Shame samsungs build quality is so bad :/
i had a very similar spot (to your 2nd sgs2). it was even bigger (1-2cm) and it had a very low mic volume.
so i returned it.
my 2nd sgs2 has still a bit low mic volume but its acceptable and the screen is just fine.
at first i thought i can see a battery through the screen but then it seemed more to be a dried up drop or something to me.
Since we are talking about build quality can i ask your opinion on the home button. Mine feels as if its craking when being depressed.
Is this normal?

Well, I think I'm very lucky, because I've bought my phone on eBay (no warranty) in the first month that it was launched (probably one of the first batches), and I have no issues at all. I'm extremely pleased with my device in all its aspects. Nevertheless, if I had experienced such issues (specially the customer service in Greece) I would be very disappointed also.
Likewise first batch no problems .
jje
No problem with mine. Although maybe on a very white image or screen the very left of my screen might be very very very slightly tiny bit darker. Could be me seeing things. Only started looking after reading threads like this though.
Doesn't bother me if it is because I can't really notice it.
My s2 was warped (crooked) right out of the box, low headset volume (even maxed via secret code) low mic volume and poor wifi.
I sent it in through bell for warranty and am still waiting to get it back. If my issues are not fixed I am selling it and never buying Samsung again. My sample should have never left the factory in that condition. At this price point, it's unacceptable.
Only problem with mine is a dead pixel and some overheating when playing heavy games. Its so amazing otherwise though

Got mine under the authorized dealer last month.
I have an issue with the speaker (Near my ear). When I max up the volume I hear a little cracking noise like what you hear when there is a small hole in the speaker.
It is not easy to notice but it bothered me.
And to no surprise, I take it to the service center , the did I firmware upgrade and told me there its nothing wrong with the speaker.
I took the phone and waiting till it worsens so it can be notable by the semi deaf technician.
love the phone and there is no alternative :-(

alarming amount of a complains for this phone.
i havent heard of any other phone having even 1\10th of the problems seen on this single hand set.
its is easily one of the most defective phones of 2011
not a recommended buy
Wow so many issues. I never imagined. Well my device was perfect from the start. Without a doubt the best phone I have ever had. It drives circles around my retired iPhone 4. Which to be honest I'm on my 4th iPhone 4. The first had a defective battery. The second the screen died on me. The third had a faulty home button after about 3 months. So now I am on number 4. Every time I got a new device, not refurbed.

Hey guys,
it seems that every smartphone i own breaks after ~18 months... Now my Z3 is finally gone, i guess.
Problems:
Blurry Pictures, i guess a coating of the lens went off?
One "system UIDs inconsistent" error, since then, whatsapp had "damaged databases" for at least 20 times - factory resettet twice, no difference
REAL bad touchscreen response from time to time. It either doesn't detect inputs at all or thinks you already lifted your finger. Super annoying, especially when typing.
Glas on front AND back is getting loose. The adhesive doesn't hold the phone together anymore
I can shrug off the first two problems (that's something i could have lived with), but not with the bad adhesive tape (??) that doesn't hold the phone together properly. You can look under the screen, it's not that far out (yet!) on the backside of the phone. Has anyone had that problem before? The phone was looked after well, i haven't dropped it, it was ALWAYS in a case. It had a glass screen protector until the touchscreen response got too bad (it didn't get any better after i removed it though).
As for my bad luck, i dropped the phone for the first time ever about an hour ago, since then the power button can't be pushed in properly anymore. The screen survived it miraculously, even though it sticks out quite a bit. I wanted to send it in for repairs next week.
I have the back sticking out problem . I'm using a case now because the service centre says they need 15 days to repair it

I had the same issue with the glass not glued to the chasis anymore. It wasn't sticking out so badly as urs but I took it to repair centre and they repaired it for me. I had also USB charger burn marks on my LCD, so they changed my screen to a new one. I'd recommend you to take it to repair centre. I tried to heat up the adhessive but it didn't work out quite as planed. After the repair it was ok. But then another story happened. WHich isn't connected to this one.
When the glass is lose, you lose the waterproof ability too. The phone can easily take damage from any kind of moisture.
Waterproof ability? Nah, USB seal is gone anyway. It went about a year ago, so i get why there are so many damaged Sony smartphones... They should include a magnetic charging cable in the box. Thanks for reminding me with the screen, the display also has irregular lighting with a corona just above the on screen buttons. Battery runtime also reduced by 50% (9hrs SOT when new; 4.75hrs now after factory reset, i guess they decreased their battery-saving modes with every new android version).
I still have my old red HTC One M7, so repair time won't be an issue. I guess i won't change back to the Z3 but sell it when it's repaired, because it feels too big in my hands and i never liked it quite as much. Funny; I bought the Z3 when i send in my One M7 for repairs (bad camera lens [purple tint], lens cover broke by itself (was not repaired), buttons far to wide inside housing (not repaired) and some other stuff). Every of my 4 smartphones broke after max. 18 months.

Yeah, there are quite a lot broken Sony phones, especially in this area(Screen). I completely agree with you about the magnetic charging cable. I had an issue with that also. I've never reached 9hrs of SOT, I've got this phone for like 6 months or so. Never had it more than 6 hours.
About the updates- yeah. As i've heard, it has decreased by every update. The best battery was with KK, but when I bought it, I already had 5.1.1 preinstalled. It is a good phone, serves all my needs for sure. Doesn't lagg and so on. THere are few things I dislike about it, the camera is underperforming for such a lense and specs. But not terribly underperforming. Think my recent phone (LG G3 ) was taking better shots. It eventually breaks. I had my phone taken to warranty repair twice. Once for screen getting lose, and the LCD burn marks. And then I took it to warranty repair because my camera became blurry and the focus didn't work at all. I tought it was just a piece of dirt behind the lens. but as it turned out, they repaired the LCD again, the upper firing speaker, the camera module, the magnetic charging module and so on. I may have got a bad unit, but the problems are surreal. I paid so much for this phone, but I have never had so much problems with any phone than with this one... Quite dissapointing to be honest. And I'm thinking about the same as you are... Switching away from Sony. This experience is quite terrifying... :crying:

I had it too, I didn't have to pay a cent. It is covered by warranty. And the adhesive might get lose by itself. As it did for me.
They should cover anything which isn't damage by your behavior. Like dropping the phone on the ground and so on

I guess it depends on the repair center then. I'm shocked they would honor it since its out of warranty. Sony rules!

Yeah, As I've heard, they don't act the same in any place. They mostly are very mean. And don't want to help at all. Either they say that you will have to pay for it or just live with the problem. I guess not everyone has like 200$ for a new LCD swap and so on.
Just to be fair, i'd only want to switch back to my One M7 because i loved that phone so much. Also because it still feels too big. The One M7 was even worse, quality-wise.
The Moto RAZR i i had before the HTC worked for a year, only the AUX port was broken and after sending it in, it was ruined (scratched, logo damaged) and i got my money back. Before the Moto, i had an Desire HD that held together pretty well, until the radio went bad. SIM wasn't recognized very often, battery was absolutely DEAD (jumped from 60% to 0% more than once).
What i think is so sad about it, is that you pay ~500€ for a piece of .... that doesn't even hold together for two years. I knew why i didn't sell the "repaired" One M7, you NEED a backup phone these days. Now it's in use for the second time after the Moto G of my girlfriend broke. Probably if they would spend just a LITTLE more on quality than on new features for the next high-end smartphone that has to be released after 6 months i'd be more exited to get a new phone.
I only bought the Z3 because of the battery life (gone with updates) and because i had several friends with Xperias of which none had a problem.

Its out if it's warranty period. So yes they are charging me. But since they need 15 days, I'm not giving it to them

My backcover became slightly undone (adhesive failing). I also had 2 bright spots (0,5cm diameter) on the left and right bottom part of the LED.
Everything was fixed free of charge, they also gave me a new battery (I asked for a replacement although the old battery was still going strong, but I plan on using this phone for quite a while and the old battery probably had way over 300 cycles)

I'm in Florida so anytime I have a problem I have to call customer service and they keep saying they don't do out of warranty repairs anymore. I wish I had a repair center nearby

Damn you are lucky. No repair for me here as garanty period is over, but I have the exact same issues, forward facing glass is getting undone and I have at least 5-6 bright spots on my screen. Really, really annoying when reading. Any idea if I could get it fixed in some no-name shop?
Surprise... After sending in my Z3 on 18.08., i just got it back and i'm in a moral conflict. They sent me a new unit plus new screen protectors. Service-wise, i'm really stunned. It makes me consider buying a Sony again, just for the service... Unfortunately they don't sell a phone i'd want to have right now.
However, my mobile phone contract runs out in 2 months and i got used to my old HTC One m7 again... So i don't know whether i should (and also want to) use the Z3 again for a longer period of time or sell it in it's new condition and get a new phone in 1.5 months. I'd want to have an S7 or Note 7 - especially the S7 would be plain cheap if i'd get it with a contract. If i sold the Z3, the additional costs of getting the S7 would be covered for 18 months of a 24 months contract period. Hypothetical: If I'd use the Z3 for another two years (won't happen) i'd only save 60€ compared to getting an S7...
Well, i guess those are first world problems. Anyway, i'm really stunned by the service - worst experience yet was motorola when i got back a damaged phone, closely followed by HTC, they repaired half of what was broken on the phone...
Sell the Z3, especially if it's brand new, you could get a good price for it. Then invest that money into something new.
I had this problem too, service replaced my phone's screen and metal case for free because this is Sony's fault.
How are any of you guys out of warranty? Mine came with a 2 year warranty in the UK, and it hasn't even been out 2 years yet.
I had to send it to service centre twice. First time digitizer broke, second time replacement screen was peeling away and screen was getting discoloured. Both times also got the magnetic dock port fixed, but I think that was damaged because I was using the wrong insert in the magnetic dock (you need to use the tightest one). I'm a bit disappointed that such an expensive phone breaks this easily, but the service has been excellent.
So a while back I started hearing a noise near the rear camera module that sounded like something was loose. I ended calling One Plus and they told me to send in my device for a replacement. A little while later they told me the noise was normal operation from the OIS camera. But I just got a charge about a month after the case was closed saying they charged my card for phsycial damage/ water??? Anyone ever dispute their charge or had anything like this happen?

Firstly, any type of optical camera with movement in the lens is going to make that sound. It's quite normal.
In regards to the charge, what was it? Significant or cheap?
Seeing as it's a phone with an IP rating I would certainly be disputing it.
Have you submerged your phone? Have you noticed any issues if so?
I've washed my phone and I do so quite often, only under the cold tap, have done this with all of my IP rated phones, never had an issue.
Lastly it's worth noting that the water damage indicators can turn red in humid rooms, so if you've been in a humid place for any extended periods of time then that could be the cause, Macs have been known to do this for years, kind of an old trick Apple plays on it's prized loyal customers into buying a new £2,000 liability.
Difficult to prove either way but I would dispute it all the same.
The charge was $1,060!!! That's why I'm very upset. I pre-ordered the phone from One Plus the day it came out. I maybe got the phone wet a few times, but honestly I don't think I ever sermergd it in water. I didn't know about the noise, but I did call their tech support and they said it shouldn't be there so I got a replacement

No that is wrong. They've charged for a new phone? That's obviously not right.
When you sent the phone back? This doesn't make sense to me.
You sent it back because it had a click sound?
They receive it and say it's got water damage, that'll a grand please.
Why didn't you just say no it was working when I sent you it, please send it back I'll pay for shipping.
??
I'm failing to see how they've charged for this or why you let them if the phone was functional.

I didn't realize the sound was normal, after some research I found out it was the OIS sensor which kinda is disappointing but it's okay. Yes there warranty department will ship out a new device to you, they put a charge of a grand on your credit card. Then you send in the original device.
I did send them an email saying I will just take my original phone back if that's the case. I also asked how they made the determination, it was a generic email because it also mentioned that the charge could be caused because they didn't receive the device. But I got an email saying they received the device then 2 weeks later they sent me the email saying they charged my card.
