So this is maybe a dumb question. . - Verizon Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Seeing as a lot of post talking about custom roms as far as aosp based are old and talk about locked bootloader.. see as the bootloader has been unlock or can be. are any roms here: https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-note-3/development usable to us that have unlock loaders? im looking for a vanilla aosp rom and a permissive kernel in the Lollipop or Marshmallow (if it wont relock my loader) department. any valuable input greatly appreciated.

Yes many of those ROMs are very good. The ones that will work with the n900v normally will list it in the opening post.
I have personally used this ROM for months and have been very pleased with it!

It is a nougat ROM, requires you to use a special recovery and you need to use the T-Mobile ( TMO )version of the ROM.

[Q] Bootloader kernels roms and official updates compared to nexus 5

So I'm considering buying this phone but I want to know how does it compare to the N5 in terms of an unlocked bootloader, custom kernels, custom roms development community, and updates from LG.
As you may know, I read that in the past LG didn't update their phones, how can we know that it won't happen again ?
I read that the bootloader is locked, is it true ?
what about custom kernels and custom roms development compared to nexus 5 ? Is there a lot or few ? Are they buggy/stable ?
Thanks.
Yeah the bootloader is locked. But that's what Loki is for. It just bypasses the bootloader entirely.
As for ROMs and kernels, you can check the development sub forums on here yourself to see if the amount is to your satisfaction. Though personally, I don't need a ton of options, just one really good one.
And as for their buginess, it's a case by case basis. Again, that's something you'll need to look into for yourself.

BOE1 ROMs? Haven't touched custom ROMs since my S4, need help getting back into it.

I have a G900V on BOE1 rooted. I'd like to try a custom ROMS that gets rid of all the bloat, and preferably looks vanilla.
Is this possible at all? As far as I can tell there's no way to access a custom bootloader on this phone, but if it is possible, what do you all recommend for a speedy, responsive experience? Maybe there's something I can do without ROMs since I have root?
Xposed still doesn't seem to be supported which is unfortunate. Sorry I'm rambling and asking nooby questions, I just haven't messed around with all this in a while, and would like my phone to be snappy again.
I you're looking for a stock-ish ROM I had very good results with the Optimal ROM. ==> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2796260
I changed over from that to the MOAR ROM, I like the customization abilities of that one better. You can find all of your options here ==> http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/development

Xposed is supported, you just need the right version for Samsung, which can be downloaded here. Install the v75 snapdragon non request concurrent GC version in flashfire and you'll be good to go.
MOAR rom and no the retail versions bootloader is still locked. There is some hope it might get unlocked http://forum.xda-developers.com/verizon-galaxy-s5/general/bootloader-unlock-coming-soon-t3271883

[Need Help, Stock 6.0.1] I'm new here and i need some suggestions.

Well, recently I've moved from Galaxy s4 to Moto X Play and everything is new here for me becoz Exynos and Snapdragon are very different so flashing procedure is also different.
Currently I'm on stock unrooted android 6.0.1, and I want to know, is this device worth customization?
If yes then....
1. Which recovery is the best? (i didn't find official TWRP)
2. Which rom should i try first?
3. Does it support xposed Version 87?
4. There is lots of CM based roms, can anyone provide me bug list of CM based roms.
And most important thing, in case of bootloop or soft-hard brick then where can i find updated stock firmware?
If anyone give me answer of my questions, I'll really appreciate it.

Thanks for ur reply, and what about xposed?
i don't use it, but I guess you can't with N rom, but a MM one, cm13 is very good and recently patched if you need MM
BTW i didn't find official TWRP for X Play, Link that u provide is not official build.
Is this fully functional?

Custom Rom

I have a fully stock Asus Zenfone 3 and i wish to switch to a custom rom, but i can't decide which rom is the best. Can anyone suggest the best available rom like the LineageOS, aim rom or dotOS or any other? There are many to choose from . And also should i root my device before flashing a custom rom? Can anyone give me the proper steps and links to the right forum to root and flash custom rom? My device is very stock. even my bootloader is still locked. Mine is a ZE520KL 4GB ram with 64GB rom. I want a rom which has no bugs, performs well, and a better battery life. Thanks in advance

Better wait for another month or two.. None of the available builds are upto the mark. I tried almost all ROMS in this forum. Some ROMs have serious bugs like not recognising sd card or without MTP connection (Note:- though they are marked Stable).. Key developers for our device are busy with their exams or holidays so development for this device is paused for now. Until then stay stock or keep your device ready for customs by unlocking the boot loader. :good:

Alright, thanks very much :good: . And as for unlocking the bootloader, unofficial is the best way to do it? as from the forums i've read, the only downside is the pop-up when rebooting the device. The FOTA and other functions work normally?

The Pop-up appears once bootloader is unlocked whether official or unofficial method. Best way is to use unofficial method. Next time make use of that small Thanks Button instead of typing..

IS it worth to install custom roms?

Like the title says, is the original rom good? Or should i go custom right as i boot it 1fst time
It worth it, at least you get the notifications work correctly and shows at the top of the status bar unlike the stock rom..
My advice to you is to istall lineage only, it's the most stable rom so far.
It depends on your priorities, if you want more choice, more control on what apps are pre installed, no bloatware, and more customization options, then that's what custom roms are for. But mind that it comes with lower security, at least as long as the manufacturer updates the device. Because custom roms usually run with looser security settings and features.
does custom roms fix the touchscreen lag on the edges?
Not worth it yet. Wait till official lineage and official trwp are released. More risky to use custom roms whose source codes are not released.

as i've seen and read in the forums, the unoffical lineage rom seems to be very stable already. Which problem do you see in flashing this version now?
My bootloader is unlocked in 3 hours and i want to get rid of this EMUI crap and bloatware

You don't get updates on unofficial versions and it's not as well maintained/supported as name implies. I rather keep bootloader locked and secured, and get almost monthly updates from xiaomi. Until official TWRP and LOS are released, as stated earlier. No need to rush and deal with instability or unexpected problems. I debloat unnecessary apps using SAKI program on stock room without root. I honestly think this is the best path to go for now.
I won't install any custom roms before official TWRP support and official LineageOS ROM support comes. I'd not also unlock my phone's bootloader untill those two thing comes.

I switched to Pixel Exirience rom from the global 10.3.5 and touch latency on the edges still the same.
I don't know what custom rom users priorities are, mine definitely having a smooth and proper working device. Most roms I tested in the past simple but most used features, like the camera, were always a headache. It might make sense for a techie or geek, but for daily use I'd rather debloat MIUI for mind peace...

any of you guys installed xiaomi.eu? seems like the better version of miui IMO.

have you tried flashing another kernel?
Maybe THIS can help you with your choice.

The Evira Kernel is built into the PE, so i just updated it to the last 1.9 version and did not feel any difference.

If you just want to get rid off the bloatware, just use adb commands. No unlocking and rooting needed
If you got the 3GB/32GB variant. then lineage OS or pixel experience should save you some extra GBs of storage and free you some extra ram (MiUI 10.3.5 uses 1.6GB or something IDLE and leaves you with 20GB storage with stock apps)
It is to early. You have latest version of Android OS on your phone, and Xaomi still give us updates with some new features.
Custom Roms are still developing and have some bugs,so .. I will no rush with installing custom rom yet. Thats my opinion.
When Xaomi stop supporting us and giving us updates, after one year that is sure that will happen, than will custom ROMs will be fully developed..and can install it..
I would like to have custom rom ,and Elvira kernel, I like tweaks and mods from Magisk. But also I want to see MIUI 11 and next Xaomi updates for RN7.
As soon as I could, I unlocked my bootloader and installed AOSP (GSI).
I don't really like MIUI, it has a lot of nice features but actually I don't use most of them.
For me, it's worth.
