Hi guys and gals,
I am ordering the Moto E4 right now and it comes unlocked already. Now do I have to root it, or since it is unlocked it is rooted already? Also since it is unlocked can I just use a one click root?
Unlocked means SIM unlocked. You must unlock bootloader, flash custom recovery and flash supersu through custom recovery

Ahh, so to do that I would just have to look up a guide I assume and follow the steps on it. Do you happen to have a video by chance?

Are you trying to confuse the guy? SuperSU will not work. You have to use Magisk 14.0 or phh's superuser.
Has anyone tried getting root without TWRP?

Don't relock bootloader with MM ROM.
(if you already have N firmware, right now)
After flashing MM, you will receive OTA for N, and it will brick your device.
Do it with latest N september patch (available in guide section)

You can, but you need to remember that "don't take OTA in future, never tap update notification"
Also if you sell or give your phone to someone else, give them latest N.

Yes, fastboot commands are same.
hi! i know this is something irrelevant but since this is related to bootloader unlocking,i wanted to question that if i wanted to relock my bootloader which was on the sept 01 patch when unlocked;would i have to flash the same build from the fastboot again to relock it?and will it be safe to install ota updates after relocking the bootloader and reverting to the stock rom?

Only for taking OTA, locked bootloader is not necessary, you can take OTA with unlocked bootloader too.
things to take care of,
don't flash older firmwares than you have at the moment,
As you have september patch, flash september (while relocking too), don't downgrade.
If you downgrade, then don't take OTA. Warned..

My bad!
GPT and bootloader won't get flashed if you downgrade, it will fail, you can't flash older versions.
I don't know if it's possible to lock without flashing them, You can try flashing without GPT and Bootloader.
Just a suggestion! You don't need to flash the firmware again, if you are already on it. For eg, If you are already on Sept patch and want to relock, you don't need to flash the ROM again to relock it. Just use the fastboot commands.
I would recommend to leave it unlocked, because if anything went wrong with your device, atleast you will be able to save the data of internal memory atleast!

Wow The hype is real! I don't use it as main device, so I can test whatever you want
I'd like to help out, not much experience with qualcomm, but I've worked on omap4 chip LG Optimus 3d.
My first question is why we can't root the phone. I see people talking about the bootloader needs to be unlocked. That i understand, but afaik unlocked bootloader is for custom recovery and kernel. Don't we need root first, because if we gonna unlock the bootloader maybe with a modified aboot, we could do it through terminal emulator if device was already rooted. Thats how it was done with my g2 mini.

there are things available search from web.. unofficial forums of kingoroot where uh can unlock boot loader.... using oem id.... and can root with lg g6 supersu by downstreaming it..!!! i have unlocked boot loader of my LG Q6 m700dsk from there... but stucked at kernal... ive tried patching kernel(upstreaming) but failed am trying to go with custom kernels for full performance of phone for limited time first, then an custom os.:good:
What's wrong with the kernel?
Are you able to get ramdisk from stock boot.img, it would help with filling some things in for the device tree.

Maybe there is some answers in the forum of one of these devices https://www.kimovil.com/en/list-smartphones-by-processor/qualcomm-snapdragon-435-msm8940.
These are devices with same specs as lg q6 .

Yo,would it be possible to root with magisk as well? just a thought, not trying to tell you to get magisk on q6. Like, do you think it may be possible to unroot SuperSU and root with magisk later on? Im also very interested in unlocking bootloader and rooting the Q6. Like said above could you post bootloader unlock and root instructions here plz? I think it would be appreciated by some people here
Edit: and since we need to patch the kernel to support custom development, the phone would still be fully functional after bootloader unlock and root? and we can still unlock bootloader and root with the current kernel?
finally after how many years of searching, i also have lg q6 m700dsk bro, can you please pm me the method you did to unlock bootloader?
Any progress bro? I really hope that it's possible to make our device compatible with custom mods and ROMs, actually I hate performance which LgUx is giving
So, has this project already died? If not, where can we follow the progress of the project?
Hi I have a G5+ US version phone. I have TWRP and Magisk installed. I want to upgrade to the latest OTA. Where can I get the OTA, and what is the procedure with an unlocked and rooted phone? See screen shots of about phone.
TIA

You need to flash the firmware to update the device if you update it's with root then the device will hard brick, so you need to flash the whole firmware so you can upgrade the device.

Can I remove root, and update it with an OTA, of does the unlocked bootloader cause a problem as well?
Do you know where I can get the firmware?

You need to unmodified all things which you have installed, such as root, module's,etc. To flash the ota if there any modifications, then there are changes of brick. So suggest you to flash the firmware. And if you want data then use LMSA and make a backup and restore after upgrading it.
I think I am just going to do a custom rom instead.

Which guide? Because 3 years later there are many guides with caveats towards the end of their threads where users say "this method doesn't work."

you can use magisk 18 also
I just recently installed b20, had trouble installing it had to oem lock and oem unlock in b15 edl then update through official recovery to get the thing to install. Well the playstore store now shows device not certified on a clean install, im guessing its because of the oem unlock.

Thanks. I was able to get back from Oreo to Marshmallow via Jcadduno's instructions in the rom/kernel sticky. Used MiFlash + B19 EDL package and then was able to get into fastboot & oem unlock.
I'd like to get to a state of stock Oreo + TWRP + Magisk. Has that combination been achieved by anyone?
Is your playstore certified? Cause on my clean install before i installed any other stuff showed device not certified.
