Permanent stains on display - Xiaomi Mi A1 Questions & Answers

Hello, I noticed a defect on my Mi A1 display. As you can see on the attached image, there are some permanent "stains". I cleaned it many many times with a microfiber cloth but they are always there. It seems also new ramifications are showing with the time. When I got my mobile in October the screen was perfect and my smartphone never falled down or crashed somewhere during this months. Of course when I clean the display the stains are not visible, but as soon as you start using the screen and some fingerprints stays on it, they are visible turning the mobile in certain angolations. Are there any other users with a similar problem or do you know what it may be?

Are you using some sort of screen protector? If not I think is probably the oleophobic coating has been somewhat been damaged and I don't think you can do anything with it.

No I'm not using any screen protector. I think it's faulty more than damaged, since the mobile never falled down or crashed somewhere, neither once

I am too facing the same issue, I too have patches on my display. No matter what I clean it with, the patches still show up. Its not damaged but looks irritating at times.

touchscreen does not "untouch"

Hi Folks,
I'm reading this forum since about 1,5 weeks, as I got my first smartphone then. Unfortunaly I sent it back today, as it got broken yesterday. It has the problem, that the touchscreen doesn't untouch. I made a picture:
I can get rid of this touched area by pressing on it with my fingernail and move it to the bottom.
I think it's from that lether case. Anybody else ever had a problem like that? Probably with another phone type?
Looks like condensation under the screen to me.
Reapply screen protector... That's it..
I thought about water also, but under the microscope we have seen that it wasn't water. I was able to remove it restless until I touched it next.
I removed the screenprotector, but that wasn't a solution.
Unfortonaly I had to send it back today, as I'll get a brandnew one within the first 14 Days after delivery
Wow that's new. Mebe condensation.
Maybe since the touch part is 2 layers, Glass and Plastic screen hovering on top of that, that it got too hot somehow and that the plastic part got stuck to the glass. mebe if you had let it cool or something it woulda unstuck.
Was the phone near any heat or in direct sunlight?\
This looks like a cracked digitizer, a touch sensitive layer above the screen itself. The screen underneath usually seems to be fine, but it doesn't have the touch capabilities anymore. It has a look of spilled liquid and you should be able to see dots of the touch grid, you can't see them normally. It happened to me on my Orbit2. I think whole screen has to be changed...

I thought about something like that too. Has the digitizer a "spazial" filling, so that you have a "soft feeling" when you tab it with the penzil?

I had the phone in my trouser pocket every day. No sunlight or heat. I tried cooling down...no chance. I had a Cassiopeia once and had a waterdamage to it. There I was able to get the water out of the touchpad by having it on my heating for a few days. But it looked not like this here.

I had the same screen protector...strange. I removed it before i sent it back. After removing I tried, but the error wasn't gone. I think better remove it before sending it back, but you should also try if this fixes the problem. Tell us if or if not

Just had the same problem with my Td2. Not impressed. The phone was fine one minute as listening to my music on it, popped it in my pocket went upstairs ang got this blob right in the centre of the screen.
Glad I took the insurance now as this is going to have to get sent back. Not overly impressed as only had the phone for 6 weeks and having a problem with the build.
Just a quick question for those that had this problem. Was the damaged screen visible under all types of light?
I ask this because taking into different rooms in my house and different types of light it seems to disappear, then reappears under other light sources. I will test in the daytime tomorrow but am now starting to wonder exactly how long it has been there...

My "blob" couldn't be seen when I looked straight from above. As on my pictrue I had to look from a angle to see it. Also it was hard to see under bright daylight. Hope that helps.
But I have a question also: You all used the leather bag shipped with the phone? I think the case isn't plain enought inside. I think there is a higher pressure one the display while wearing it in my trouser pocket. Anybody else who can tell more about that?
I've the same problem, at least I think it is the same. Touch still works fine, but it seems like there is some condensation underneath the screen.
I can confirm that it has nothing to do with the screenprotector.
If I put my finger on it, it moves to the sides. Sometimes it seems to be gone, but after a while I notice it again.
It's a very colourful stain. Can I claim warranty for this kind of 'errors'?

As you are the 4th in this thread I think so
It's not under warranty of HTC, at least that's what they told me...
Did somebody else contacted HTC about this problem?

too bad it seems like they classify it under 'cracked display' - and according to the user manual it is not covered by warranty.
Probably, but I think it's just an error of HTC. The way they treat their loyal customers is, in my opinion, verry disappointing. It was the same with the problems everyone had with the TytnII.
Today I got my phone back from my provider...the same broken one. In the letter they told my I sent it back too later
Now I'm dissapointed from o2 Germany, cause the customer support told me what to do and I did it.
guys i had the same problem (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=519441) and i got a replacement. but i tell you.. this is caused because one time the phone got hit by pressure on the screen and the screen itself kinda felt into the phonecase. check out from the side.. you probably will see that the screen is lowered - then when you use fingers on the touchscreen this blob appears. in my case the screen didnt work anymore as soon the blob appeared... but was able to get it out with some tissue and rubbing.
also i saw some oil liquid under de screen - depending on the light outside.
so.. just take care.. this phone is very sensitive to any pressure on the screen and using it in a trouser pocket is already dangerous!

Strange damage on the screen

I'm using my SGS for almost a month now and there're appearing strange spots on the screen. I have absolutely no idea what it is and what's causing it. Has anyone seen something like this before?

Never before.. the screen is totally off? What do you use to clean the screen? Do you feel the same touching the bright area and the opaque area?
Silly question maybe but has it got a screen protector on it?
Is it very humid where you are? Looks like moisture under the screen.
Take it to Samsung, maybe it's some kind of defect that's allowing moisture in.
There's no screenprotector on it. When it just appeared I couldn't feel the spots, now I can by moving my finger over them. They look like tiny scratches caused by sand but I always carry my phone in my pocket so that's just impossible.
At the photo the screen is totally turned off. I don't use any chemicals to clean the screen.

No idea.. I'm using screen protector until I got it out the box. By the way I always carry it in my pants pocket, and normally I use jeans... but the protector looks fine.
The area does look like the usual place to touch the screen (normal keyboard usage at the bottom of the screen and up/down scrolling in the middle). My only conclusion is either a defect screen or you've used it once without noticing you still had some chemicals on your skin.

My thought too, maybe it had pressure with someting when you had it in your pocket with something else that was in your pocket or something that pressed you leg/poket for outside

I never carry something in the same pocket a where I carry my phone in. As I move my finger over the screen I can slightly feel a bit of rough surface but when I clean my screen it's not visible while some other damaging is.
If it is in fact a damaged screen I wouldn't panic too much. There are tutorials online on how to repair damaged screens (as long as they're glass). You sand and polish the screen and it comes out as good as new. Although, for the SGS it would probably be best to remove the screen from the chasis first (they don't remove the screen as there is no bezel).
What games have you been playing? It look more like rubbing marks on several games that I can think off.
The damage is probably under the glass from excessive pressure over a pride of time.

The coating has come off the screen it looks like... something must have been on your hands that burnt it off.
It's almost impossible the damage has been caused by excessive pressure. Since a few days I can actually feel the spots as they are a bit more rough then the rest of the screen. If the coating has come of the screen, will it be accepted when I return it warranty?
I had exactly this but a bit smaller. I took it back to the store (Hi) and requested a repair. The first time i noted 2 errors for it:
- Screen screwed
- GPS fix doesnt work or takes long
So... what they did; they flashed 2.2 and sent it back as repaired (funny I downgraded it to 2.1 stock after running 2.2.1 for weeks for this repair...). The folks at Hi agreed it was bullsh*t and they sent it again with the notice they didn't repair the screen. After another week the online status page said they didn't find a defect. Hi called them before they sent it back to have another look at it, since I even provided pictures with a red circle around the spots I'm still confused how they could miss this (maybe only blind people work at Teleplan...?). Then a few days later i saw they replaced "front mea i9000". Since today i got it back with a brand new screen. So.. if anyone else has this problem: send it back for repair and provide the picture in this topic to be extra clear (I wish I saw this photo, otherwise I would have provided this one with it).
I have the same thing only a lot smaller...
I have a circle on my screen from my €2 currency. Its not a scratch but something weird...

did not you touch it accidentally with a "dirty" finger? (like isopropyl alcohol or adhesive remover etc) I had a similar damage on my HTC phone long time ago... I forgot to wash my hand before I picked up a call.
Looks like pressure damage. Had something similar with a htc touch. Looked like a oil like fluid within the screen. Amazingly the screen works still great. But the touch had a resistive screen, the sgs ones is capacitive. This in mind I don't know if it could be the same problem.

Giant screen scratch

I put it in my pocket for two seconds pulled it out and was greeted with this

Is there anything I can do about this?

I had one but the amount of bubbles drove me crazy.
It can be a pain but you should be able to get a screen protector on with no bubbles. Since screen protectors are not unique to the N7, a Google search on installing screen protectors without bubbles will turn up a zillion threads on the topic.
These are the ones I like http://www.spigen.com/tablets/google-nexus-7-remium-lcd-protection-film-steinheil-series.html
I like the Ultra Crystal
But I stopped using screen protectors since I found I don't need them to stay scratch free.

I always keep my N7 in my case and I put it in my pocket for *two* seconds, and my pocket is a smooth soft hight sweater pocket. I pull it out, bam-- giant scratch.
Now I think everyone should have screen protectors. I wish I did. I was going to sell this thing and get the new version in July but it looks like I'm stuck with a scratched and soon to be dated device now
Not true... Ur pocket did the scratch...
Com on, something did it....

Does anyone have any suggestions other than "put a screen protector on it" because I can't see how that would hide this scratch.
This incident was an unfortunate fluke although isn't there something I can do?

There's scratch removers that you can get. You wipe it on and wipe it off and the scratch should be gone, or at least less visible.

I've heard this too but I have only herd testimonials about gorilla glass and not whatever our screens use. You wouldn't happen to know of any success stories using a particular remover would you?

Nope, not of any specific brand, just that it could be a solution. Wouldn't hurt to look into it though
Be aware of scretch removers... they can easily remove glass coating because they are abrasive and make things worse...
You can see a scratch because a scratch has sharp edges. A screen protector puts the scratch under a smooth surface.
Polishing (on finishes in general) does the same thing by smoothing the edges, minimizing how noticeable the scratch is.
There is zero downside to a screen protector other than needing to install it.
I'm in agreement with others, don't polish. Too much chance of trading one visual flaw for another.

[Q] Strange marks on the brand new screen

Hello mates!
I just got a brand new SGS5 and I noticed strange marks on the display. The display is absolutelly unmarked, no scratches or anything like that. When I polish the display, no marks are able to see, but when I use my fingers and the fingerprints are on them, they go visible. I tried to use some alcohol or things like that to get rid of them, but nothing helped.
Here some photos of it (attached) - firstly the polished display, then the strange marks after usage.
Anyone has any experience about similar problem? Any ideas how to get rid of them? Warranty please as a last option, I'm leaving to holiday in next weeks and I would like to take my S5 with me.
Thank you for any response, the solver gets a candy!

Well, even though I am not in it for the candy , I am still trying to help you out here. It seems that it is some adhesive residue of some sorts, I would advise you use rubbing alcohol (though be careful with it and use it only within the confines of the screen!) on those spots.

Ahhhh, sorry, didn't read it properly it seems, my bad, am a bit tired, but if I knew that I shouldn't have responded I guess
Really weird problem, though it also has an interesting possible use, if we know what caused this, it could be implemented to prevent fingerprints from happening at all as those spots seem to be fingerprint resistant.

Haha, so I'm going to keep this phone and sell it for research. :victory: But for now I woul'd be ok with phone without this special layer...
Have the same spots, but at the top of the screen near the speaker. But it looks for like the spots are the places without resistance layer. How do you think can warranty help in this case ?
Solved
Hello!
Yes - whole problem solved by warranty. No problem with it. They replaced the whole display and there are no problems anymore. :victory:
Unfortunatelly I didn't find anything that could help without replacing the display. But - as I said - there was absolutly no problem about warranty and changing it.
Hope this thread helps

Finally!
Finally someone with the same problem! I've searched for ages for somebody with the same problems that i have with my sgs5 screen. I've actually gotten my phone replaced 2 times for the same reason but after between one and four days the same kind of blotches or scratches return, as described above. The last time I handed in my phone Samsung (pretty reasonable though annoying) decided that it had to be caused by my own usage, hence no help from them.
The problem is that I have been extra bloody careful with the phone since I've had the same problems several times, but now Samsung won't help me because it's such an unusual problem, and I have no idea of whats causing it. Does anybody have a clue on whats causing these things to appear on the screen? Would it be possible to reapply a new layer of oloeophobic coating?
Huh, that's wild. That seems like something that would happen if someone were to repair the front-glass improperly. Lack of Loca glue between the glass and display.

You think? I got a brand new phone the first two times (!) since it was during the 5 days DOA time. So in that case it's from production not repair. The screen has later been replaced but the problem appears AGAIN... Samsung won't even answer me anymore since they claim it's my own doing. Really annoying...
same thing
Hi guys. I have the same thing. Brand new phone. Was using for 4 days. When I clean the spot there are no sratches but once i touch with fingers i see strange pattern. Tried cleaning with non alchohol screen cleaner but no luck. Was extremely careful not keeping with metals in my pocket. I think it would be nightmare to send it to warranty to prove that smth is wrong.. Starting to hate Samsung. Waiting for glass screen protector so i think once i put it the problem dissapear. Still wery annoyed..

You might ask for a replacement which i think they'll give you and then directly put a screen protector on. Annoying I know but as I've said before it's gonna happen again with ur newly replaced screen (or else i'm very bloody unlucky...). I wonder if it would be possible to just remove all the oleophobic coating of the screen in some way. I'm pretty sure that's the cause of the problem.
I am having the same issue with my phone. I don't want to replace the screen, because I don't like doing that.
Did anyone managed to get them away?
Same thing here. I am not even sure if the issue is caused by the oleophobic coating on the top.
Looks like a mass problem and replacing the screen or the phone will not help.
Anybody tried screen protector to fix the issue?

preapplied screenprotector may cause touch issues [confirmed]

since the first day of using the oneplus5 ive noticed that the device refuses scrolling sometimes.
imagine scrolling fast trough a forum and suddenly it stops scrolling even if you kept swiping.
i was sure that the issue was caused by the screenprotector. but i dint understand why almost nobody had the same issue. i thought after a while the issue would disappear because i thought maybe they didnt use enough pressure while applying the screenprotector. so i gave it a couple days and also applied more pressure on the screen with a credit card. but it didnt fix the issue and i was affraid its a defective touch panel. so ive contacted oneplus and explained my concerns about the touch responsiveness. at first they thought im referring to the jelly scrolling effect. but after further explanation they understood. then i asked them if it might be related to the preapplied screen protector.
the guy from the support team told me that its possible that the preapplied screenprotector might be defective. he told me to remove it and check if it resolved the issue. after removing the screen protector the scrolling issue was gonne.
i still dare to scroll sometimes as it traumatized me i think. i guess i need a dolphin therapy by now.
i still wonder what might have been wrong with the screen protector. maybe the plastic structure wasnt even but disorted in its molekular structure.
I had this problem with every sceen protector I used on every device I tried. OK, to be clear: This means I only tried it with 2 protectors on 2 devices
But yes, seems to be a common problem with screen protectors. Not everybody has this problem, but it can happen. I haven't used screen protectors since then, but now I'm using the preapplied one on my OP5, too, but I will remove it and apply the Orzly tempered glass protector as soon as it arrives. An then start my third test with screen protectors We will see if I'll remove it lateron because of the same problems happening again? ^^
Why use screenprotectors anyway? Its gorillaglas 5. So it wont be scratched easily...
Does the screen feels any different when removing the standard screen protector? Maybe more refelction of the sun?
