SM-T580 Why is log in taking so long - Samsung Galaxy Tab A series Questions & Answers

I just bot my Galaxy Tab A (SM-T580) day before yesterday. I set security to a simple pattern, but it takes 8-9 seconds after entering the pattern before the home screen appears. When doing the same with my phone, also running Android 7.0, it's virtually instantaneous. Anyone else having this issue?
Also, I half expected the tablet to include a fingerprint sensor. I thought I read somewhere that it had one?

Is anyone else experiencing the long delay after entering the log in pattern?

This issue has been bugging me. I didn't know if the tablet was defective or it's something I did. To resolve this issue I reverted back to the as received stock firmware without root and original recovery software. The delay after pattern disappeared. I then re-rooted it and the delay came back. How strange! Has anyone else experience this? At least I now know my tablet is not defective. Why rooting causes it is a real mystery to me?

Remove root then flash supersu v2.79. Reboot then over the top flash v2.82.
Hopefully this fixes the issue.

Thanks. I tried that with the same result. Any ideas what's happening and why?
BTW, I followed the rooting steps provided here:

Update: Started over with Magisk in lieu of SuperSU and that solved the problem. No pattern delay now. Followed the steps here with substitution of Magisk for SuperSU:

Frequent SOD after 4.3 update

I started with a stock 4.2.2 and the only modification to the phone was unlocked bootloader and root (no custom recovery or anything like that).
The phone has had a couple of SOD instances but they were very rare. After doing a sideload OTA update I've had it SOD twice in the last 2 days. I haven't re-rooted this phone (waiting for SuperSU to be less...hacky) or installed anything to mess with power management. I read that there may be a netflix SOD issue but it's not applicable as I don't have the app.
Anyone else get SOD with 4.3 or am I the only one?

You are not alone. My wife's phone is experiencing the same issues. I have chosen not to install the update for this very reason. Hopefully it will get fixed and there will be a new update in the near future. Sorry I don't yet have a solution.

Yeah, me too. I have had instances where it has just completely shut off and i've had to hard reboot. My other half also has a similar issue on the N4 and these were when I was on stock. I'm now running PA 3.90 and I haven't had any (as of yet)

For what it's worth, doing a "factory reset" cured my wife's phone of the issue. Be sure to do a backup of important data like contacts and picture first.

My Phone Keeps Randomly Rebooting

My G2 keeps randomly rebooting. Sometimes it will reboot without me doing anything to it, and sometimes it will reboot when I try to unlock it. The only thing I have done to the phone is root with the method in these forums. I haven't installed any non-market apps or anything. Since the root method was kind of suspicious, I suspect that is the problem. How do I un-root? I have tried the "back to stock" method, but nothing happened after I completed that. How can I resolve this issue? Does anybody else have this problem?
Edit: Even if rooting was not the cause of my problems I still need to un-root in case I need to take the phone back to Verizon.

Hmm I do not think that I have a beta version of chrome, but just in case, I disabled Chrome and installed Firefox instead. I will update if that appears to fix the problem.
Edit: Nope. The problem still exists.
Also, I managed to unroot using super SU. The problem is that it still says that my phone is rooted when I go to about>status.
I had the same problem today. It happened when I got a text. It rebooted like 3 times one after another. Then it just stopped. Weird.....
Anyone any ideas? I have the T-Mobile version. NOT ROOTED
Mine just shut off entirely no reboot I had to power it on. On the T-Mobile version

Mines shut off like 5 times today no reboot it just shuts down lol so T-Mobile is sending me a brand new one and if that has problems to I may go back to my nexus 4 and wait for the nexus 5 or something this phone is amazing in every way except when I go to unlock and it is ******* shut down ugh

Proximity Sensor Issues with Nougat

Hey All,
Having an odd issues with Nougat and my proximity sensor. Was curious is anyone else has experienced this.
So, it seems like when I run Nougat ROMs my proximity sensor doesn't work. When I get a call and place the phone up to my ear, the screen turns off. However, when I pull the phone away from my head the screen doesn't turn back on. Even when I hit the power button the screen still stays blank and does so until after the call is ended (by the other person).
So I did some flashing of different things and this is what I found...
I flashed a couple Nougat ROMs (DigitalHigh and WETA, I think) and had the same blank screen issue. I then tried flashing the stock Nougat image (NBD90X) from Google and that also had the same issue. From there, I flashed back to Google's stock Marshmallow image (MTC20L) and the issue went away. I then upgraded to Nougat from stock MTC20L and I didn't have the issue. Everything worked fine after that upgrade.
Anyone have any ideas as to why the upgrade worked fine but the stock Nougat images and other Nougat ROMs don't?
Also, for the record, I don't have a screen protector on the phone.

It is peculiar. I have flashed about every factory image clean when they come out and my proximity has always worked. There was an issue where certain devices had locked up sensors about a year ago but that was on MM and I think it was just a hardware problem. Maybe it's early symptoms of that specific problem.

I am having this same exact issue ever since I got Nougat. I am not rooted and am running the OTA upgrade. I've been hesitant to reset to factory settings but I may try that later tonight.

Oddly enough, the OTA update is the only thing that worked on mine.

It really is weird. I'm back on MM now and its working fine. I guess I stay here until the next build comes up and then I'll see what happens.
Same issue here. stock rom, received OTA and now I have the excess battery use, and thanks to the post boss above, the same proximity sensor issue. Phone goes black in middle of call with no way to get back to the screen to hang up, change to speakerphone, etc. It stays black sometimes, even after the other party hangs up, requiring me to reboot. PITA.
Resetting the phone did nothing to fix the problem. The only way to revert back to MM is to root the phone first, correct?

You have to unlock the bootloader but thats pretty much it. After you flash you can relock it if you want.
I could fix that problem by removing the screen protector.

No not rooting. You have to unlock the bootloader and then fastboot flash a factory image. It's best to leave the bootloader unlocked too, unless you are going to leave it stock and never tinker with it again. But if you ever need to flash an image again or use twrp or anything fastboot related you will need an unlocked bootloader.
I have the same problem with my phone. Android 7.1 seems to fix this.

I had the same problem, but fixed it by installing a sensor reset app from Play Store, then uninstalled the app.
Just talked to Huawei tech support. My 6P wasn't rotating the screen and whenever I was in a call, wouldn't dim the screen. Such a small feature but we all take it for granted. Anyway, she told me to enter recovery (Power+Volume Up) and "Wipe Cache Partition" rebooted and running like a champ. ?

Freezing ever 30 seconds

After trying to root and being stuck in a boot loop i had to restore to the newest software version. Upon doing this I was greeted with my new galaxy s7 edge freezing every 30 seconds for about 2 seconds each time. It may not sounds like a big deal but when you use your phone for YouTube a lot you can really tell. If anyone has had this problem and has fixed it I would be so grateful if anyone could help me out with this. Thanks
