I started with a stock 4.2.2 and the only modification to the phone was unlocked bootloader and root (no custom recovery or anything like that).
The phone has had a couple of SOD instances but they were very rare. After doing a sideload OTA update I've had it SOD twice in the last 2 days. I haven't re-rooted this phone (waiting for SuperSU to be less...hacky) or installed anything to mess with power management. I read that there may be a netflix SOD issue but it's not applicable as I don't have the app.
Anyone else get SOD with 4.3 or am I the only one?

You are not alone. My wife's phone is experiencing the same issues. I have chosen not to install the update for this very reason. Hopefully it will get fixed and there will be a new update in the near future. Sorry I don't yet have a solution.

Yeah, me too. I have had instances where it has just completely shut off and i've had to hard reboot. My other half also has a similar issue on the N4 and these were when I was on stock. I'm now running PA 3.90 and I haven't had any (as of yet)

For what it's worth, doing a "factory reset" cured my wife's phone of the issue. Be sure to do a backup of important data like contacts and picture first.

I've experimented today with the leaked XWKF1 build from samfirmware.com! After a few hours I realized that I've got a (for me serious) bug as well:
Every time I wanted to do a power off (shut down), the phone immediately restarts itself. Tried everything to get rid of this: Reflash with or without repartition, factory reset, rooting, using ZSKF1 kernel, CWM4.0.0.2, ...
Even after pulling the battery out: As soon as I put the battery back in the phone booted up immediately.
At this time I began to fear a hardware fault, luckily after going back to Liteningv1-3 power off works as intended again...
So, why I'm writing this here:
If anybody encounters the same: Just flash back your old rom and you will be fine again.
And: Can somebody explain this?

Thx for your feedback!
I'm almost sure most people won't have that problem, otherwise there should be quite a few reports till now...
I've had that issue before, on KE7 and my o2 stock ROM. I never could figure out what caused it, but battery pulling usually fixed it (at least good for a few power downs)
Might be that you have an alarm set in the next days.
just flashed to the kf1 stock and don't have the problem
I think when you are on a custom rom and go to stock, you might encounter weird quirks like this. Since the stock roms are non-wipe, it may leave remnants of your custom rom. Might be better to try a full factory reset and wipe cache/dalvik from recovery before flashing if you are okay with losing all data to see if that stops the reboot issue. Its not always necessary but I have had some weird problems in the past.
Either that or just wait for Litepro to come out with a KF1 version or another version in the near future. I think thats what I'll do
+10 for a wipe .

All right, so here's my scenario:
I've been running CM10 builds for a while now, and for the last week or so I've been getting more and more freezes, random reboots, and full shut-downs. I finally today was sick of it and decided to give up and go back to stock. I ran into no end of problems getting into recovery mode and couldn't do so consistently or reliably, but managed with the Nexus toolkit to go back to stock rooted. But I started having crashes and reboots even during setup after this. So then I reflashed to stock without rooting and had similar issues, plus some apps wouldn't install with various unspecific errors. I finally took it all back to stock with LOCKED bootloader and I'm still having random crashes, reboots, boot loops, and apps that refuse to install.
Is there anything else I should be trying before I go to ASUS and turn it in under warranty?

Yes, you should try to return back to stock unrooted.
If the problem persists, then you know it is not a software glitch.

Yes, as I mentioned I already took it back to stock unrooted and then even went so far as to relock the bootloader. I was just trying to confirm that there was nothing further for me to try before assuming that meant I had fully ruled out all software influences or possible self-remedies. So yeah, if that's that, then I guess it's time to contact ASUS.
Hi, N4 of my brother after upgrade to 4.4.3 got strange random reboots, I'v searched for long time on google and here but seams an isolated case.
I'v flased latest 5.0.1 stock, and got reboots too, I'v installed kernel hellscore, and same issues, I think that may be high voltage, so I'v UV abount before -100000 and after -75000, but no way, that phone after 4.4.3 ota got random reboots........
Any idea please?

Did you do it from the stock recovery?
If yes, then you might be facing a hardware issue, which is beyond our reach here. I would recommend going to a service in this case.
Ok Tnx
Received notification of a system update today, 10 August 2015. I'm a little leery of installing this. I'm at 5.1.1 and after installing 5.1.1, I have the dreaded unannounced deaths where the phone will turn itself at random. Sometimes it will reboot if you hold the power button down for about 15 seconds. Sometimes the charger needs to be plugged in before it will reboot. Sometimes it cycles through all apps before completing the reboot. Sometimes not. If the new update will fix this, I'm all for it. But, I don't want to get fooled again with these updates. So, anyone else get an update? What does it do? Any problems after the update? Thanks.

It's the first update of Google's announced security patch program. Expect frequent OS updates now to address security issues. This one patches the well publicized Stagefright MMS exploit.
That was my guess. I rarely text, or other, message, so I'm not too worried about Stagefright. My gut tells me to wait until others have installed. I have enough memory leak auto turn-off issues, that I'm afraid of making my phone worse than it is.
If Google would be so kind as to include a memory leak resolution in these updates, I'd jump all over it.
Well I had been postponing updating to Lollipop for months... (was still on 4.4.4 cuz I didn't quite like the new UI) and decided to update Sunday morning.
Big mistake.
The OTA 5.1.1 5.0.1 update made my phone become unstable, lag, and crash at random. Constantly get "X ins't responding", where X can be anything from Launcher to System UI to Chrome!
I currently can't even use my N4, and I'm trying to find a way to revert the upgrade, My 4.4.4 was rooted, and now it's not and I can't even enter Recovery mode.
Not sure if it's 100% related to your troubles, but I've been having similar random reboots lately and just general instability.
Edit: my bad, I just realized it was 5.0.1 I upgraded to.
update aug 10, 2015
I saw the update and thought it would be a good idea but I now have a tablet stuck in reboot loop. Have tried everything (clearing data, factory reset, etc) and still not able to get past looping. Might want to wait before you update.

I don't think your bootloader has to be locked, but since 5.+ you do have to be unrooted with no changes to your /system partition. I know I have sideloaded the OTA after flashing stock images. Just did not want the poster to lock their bootloader and brick themselves thinking they will be able to boot the OTA if they have modified /system at all.

Hello there xda.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM910F.
So what is happening to my phone is that whenever I am in any random app lets say reddit or even chrome for example. It will like freeze for a minute or two and then unfreeze.
In more extreme cases it will reboot.
So this happened randomly because I flashed a Stock unbloated 5.1.1 ROM from here back in december and everything was working smoothly and stuff. I had xposed installed and all my apps. Then in February it started with this random freeze/reboot. I had not installed anything else apart from what I had for the last 3 months.
So I restarted the phone, changed the battery and stuff to see whether that will fix it. However it didn't. So I formatted the phone (the soft type) just so I can install another ROM. So I tried another ROM, flashed the correct CP and BL and stuff and then just installed chrome and whatsapp. After an hour or two the same thing happened. So this time I factory reset he phone, like a complete wipe and I installed the unbloated ROM once again with few apps. Same thing happened...
So my last resort was to install Cyonagen Mod. After an hour or two same thing happened...
I don't know what is the problem. I read about some peoples phones emmc failing and thus the freezing, but I am not sure yet.
Please could you guys explain what I should do to fix this?
Thank in advance!
I have the same problem. Starting on mid january. I'm on stock 5.1.1 with root and twrp recovery
Tried backup and factory reset
I went back to stock after I factory reset the phone. And still had the same problems.
People say that its a hardware problem... So I guess I'll have to send it back to Samsung soon.
I think I tripped the knox. I just have to unroot and get it back once again to stock and send it back. I hope that they accept it.
i have the same problem. my model is SM-N910W8 and I bought it from 2nd hand, so no receipt and no prove of purchase.
can I still send it back to samsung to fix it?
same problem as you and now my phone died completely .
my phone was 4 months and he has not supported any longer he died naturally lol.
my operator gave me another free under warranty because the phone had a faulty motherboard and after several back galaxy note 4
This started happening to me a week or so ago and my phone just got stuck in a boot loop after it froze and rebooted. I'm on the latest stock firmware. Tried factory reset, reflashed stock firmware, nothing helps. It still reboots (sometimes it almost gets booted completely, other times it reboots after 2 seconds.

Many thanks. This was driving me mad for a few days, I had tried three different ROMS, completely wiping everything. I eventually went back to stock, which I'm still running and it was the same; it would run fine for a few hours and then start to lock up until eventually it would either reboot or stop responding and I'd have to pull the battery to restart it.
Just not selecting fingerprint security doesn't work, you have to force stop "Fingerprints" in Application Manager (All).
just do not setup the finger print lol. I was having those problemes too when I bought the note 4 until someone tell "do not setup the finger print" lol, not I'm a happy user.... I hope that android 6.0.1 solve the probleme

Still having the same issue around the same time everyone else started experiencing it.
I also was rooted and had xposed installed on 4.4.4 before the issue started happening.
