FYI ~ Galaxy s4 (unrooted) self rebooting in stock rom

Just picked up my Galaxy S4 from Bestbuy with stock 'Build no.' (MDC). As soon as i started using my phone, sprint pushed a 'over the air' (OTA) update. Had it downloaded, installed, and rebooted.
As I started using the phone more by clicking on the stock app. the phone starts to reboot itself. Long story short. I thought i'll fix it by rooting the phone. Same issue and reboot itself more, kept crashing.
I now unrooted the phone using Odin-OC for FULL ERASE since i have nothing on the phone to begin with. I'm guessing this is a hardware issue. I'm wondering if anyone out there that is having the same issue.

If the Galaxy s4 is faulty (hardware issue), the phone vibrate twice before samsung logo appear.

so from what you are saying as soon as you booted you got the MDL update correct? what "stock app" are you clicking on that is causing the phone to reboot? random reboots are commonly linked to specific software malfunctions most of which can be corrected easily. not saying you didnt get the bad one from the batch but if you provide more info we should be able to work out the kinks if its software related.

i also have this problem but i have no solution, samsung told me either i need a new battery or get my phone replaced pronto

Sorry for the late respond, my phone will automatically reboot itself. While in any apps, game app and while using the camera to take pictures; my phone reboot itself. Once it is on, the phone will not respond (freezes) and reboot itself again and again. This usually stop by the forth or fifth time of continues self booting.

i know you said that you are no longer rooted but have you tried rerooting and flashing a differant rom?

Typically random reboots are kernel related. When rooted did you try flashing any custom kernels, mods, try OC/UV, or anything along those lines?
Otherwise, sounds like a faulty device, maybe bad memory.

A week after getting the galaxy s4 my phone started rebooting typically 2 times a day sometimes none at all, contacted sprint they said to come in and there fix was a factory reset lol, so decided to root and install triforce rom with kt kernel , still getting random reboots, im playing with the kt kernal settings hoping to find a sweet spot

Honestly... I think it's the MF9 update. It hasn't happened to me, but I've seen it for plenty of people. Everyone here running build no. MF9??

[HELP] Safe mode and continuous reset problem on my i9505

Hi all, I am new to xda-developers. I have i9505 normally it was 4.2.2 as I bought it like that 1 year ago but then I decided to upgrade it to 4.4.2 - 4 days ago because of annoying freezing problems and slow working. I totally wiped the phone cache/data for fresh firm and I flashed I9505XXUGNF1 Russian stock rom from sammobile. Everything looked fine on the first day. I had no gsm, wifi problems but second day wifi broke down, anyway I rooted and solved it by build.prop method but starting from yesterday my phone started to reset often, sometimes while using whatsapp, music app or while my main screen is open just pushing buttons or apps. When it resets itself, sometimes also starts in safe mode which I came across for the first time since I bought my phone. I mean I had reset like this when I was using 4.2.2 but rarely maybe once in 3-4 months. It also freeze for a few seconds before it resets.
What's your suggestion, what might be the problem ?

Is not very clear your problems it looks like two different problem " the safe mode problem" and the reset problem

You may have a problems with your EFS folder.
And for the the reset ,
I would recommend a factory reset ( backup first) and if problem is still present I would reflash stock again

Please help! System process not responding

Hello all. I've had a Verizon note 3 since release. I've been running HyperDrive 6 on 4.3 since I got the phone. I've had no reason to update at all, not to mention when I first got it I didn't understand knox so now my knox counter is 0x1. Its been great and themed and untouched for at least 3 months. Today I noticed everytime I opened an app it was upside down, and flipping my phone didn't help. So, I rebooted it.
Ever since that reboot about 3 hours ago I have been unable to get it to reboot fully. It boots up, gets to the lock screen and freezes for about 10 seconds then pops an error saying System process not responding "wait or close". I've done both options with no luck. I've booted into safestrap, cleared cache, recovered to my most recent (April) recovery, booted into stock rom slot, EVERYTHING ends in system process freezing and rebooting.
Why is it doing this out of nowhere? How do I make it stop? What is even wrong? I need this phone for work and in the 3 hours without it have already gotten crap via email for being unresponsive to phone calls.
I have zero idea how to update to KK with my knox counter voided. I'd prefer not to anyway since 4.3 HD6.0 worked great and was themed to my liking.
But I need this phone working, so I'm taking ideas.

Have you tried using Odin if not might wanna start with that use a computer download the stock firmware tar file use Odin to flash the phone back to stock. That's what I would do I don't know what's wrong with you phone but that might help undo what was done.

[Q] Reboots after Lollipop

Verizon Note 3 here, I received the Lollipop ota today and thought no harm in taking it as I was already stuck without root on 4.4.4.
It worked ok for the first couple minutes, then a reboot, then same thing, about 5 minutes and a reboot. Sometimes ~2 minutes, seems using it in any situation made the reboots happen. I did a factory reset thinking that would clear things up. Unfortunately now it is even worse, as it's rebooting anywhere from the first touch to the screen, to about 15 seconds of activity, literally dozens of reboots.
I downloaded the update on my pc and installed via Odin hoping that the ota was just corrupted or some bad luck like that. Nothing changed at all.
It will idle after booting just fine, I just can't do much of anything, every touch of the screen feels like a roll of the dice. Every few reboots or so I can make it to settings maybe but haven't been able to actually change much of anything, not that it would seem to matter here.
I've flashed via Odin twice, cleared the cashe many times, factory reset 3 or 4 times. Am I screwed here? What else to try?
*UPDATE* I flashed back to 4.4.4 with Odin and no more issues. It appears that my device alone is completely incompatible with the new firmware.

I should also note that I tried airplane mode, safe mode, and removing the sd card with no improvements.

After hours of messing with this thing and nearly giving up, not half an hour after I post here for help, I seem to have found a solution, although hopefully not a permanent one. The problem was happening when I would touch the screen, not scrolling ever, but making selections. On a whim I turned off sound and bam, no crashes.
I would still love it if someone had some insight about this problem, or better yet a solution.
I'm not sure yet if it is just the keypress sound that is killing it, or all sounds. I never did have any issues with the stock keyboard clicks now that I think of it, only the menu press sound. In any case it's not every time it made the sound, just half the time or so. Anything anybody could add to this would be appreciated.
*Edit* Not a solution, but it did help.

Well it's not as stable as I'd hoped. More like before the first factory reset now, but still not good at all. The various sounds definitely trigger crashes quickly(menu options, volume pings, mp3 songs from sd card), but regular silenced menu presses do sometimes as well still. Phone also bootloops several times often before it can get booted stable and 100% always crashes immediately if I try to unlock the screen in the first 5-10 seconds after booting up. Not sure if I'll be able to call or text as it's too late to test that atm. I'll update tomorrow, any insight appreciated.

I would say a bad download but I don't remember if ODIN checks MD5 sums (pretty sure it does). I would do a full wipe and reflash the stock image with odin

I am 100% stock not rooted never been rooted 5.0 vzw and I have had a couple of reboots. Never ever had one on this phone before. My old note 3 was rooted but I got this replacement after the root exploits had all been closed.

None at the current time but CVE-2014-8609 seems like it could be some use

I spoke too soon when I said the phone was usable now. At best 5 minutes of light use as anything seems to crash it now. I did get a fresh image and used it with Odin with exactly the same result which makes me think its my phones hardware or something. Just seems crazy that it was working just fine before the update. The reason I pushed to 4.4.4 and lost root is because my phone suddenly started an issue where it would crash when making or receiving calls. It wasn't caused by any new apps or anything, just out of nowhere. I tried everything then updated as a last resort, carelessly I went to 4.4.4 instead of staying at 4.4.2 and lost chance of root, but it solved the problem I was having. I wonder if the issue is related somehow.

I was able to odin back to 4.4.4 and it's working fine so far, I assumed that you would not be able to revert back like the last ota and just tried it as a nothing to lose last effort. This is very important news to anybody that is having major issues with 5.0. Maybe, just maybe I'll try it again if they make an update patch for reported issues.
But for now, 4.4.4 it is for me.

VZW Note 3 update to Lollipop
I just finished the Lollipop update and my phone is working great for the past 30 minutes. Seems a little slower then usual but have had no issues besides my phone locking up after downloading the update, may have been due to my phone running down to 14%, but after removing the battery for 20 secs and putting it back on, phone came back on, I plugged into charger and started the update. Will post later if I have any issues.

I have been trying unsuccessfully through odin to downgrade but it keeps failing in odin, I downloaded the official firmware from sammobile.

Just curious if u r tried reinstalling newer odin? Try different USB port and cable. At this point maybe even try different pc if u have access to 1

Random reboots after nougat update

Anybody else's phone rebooting every few days..?
It hard reboots (Galaxy S7 edge screen), so i thought it might be hardware failure.
Haven't downgraded to 6.0 to check.
I don't have an sd card inserted (because the one i had corrupted which caused my phone to randomly reboot, now i took it out and it still does it)
Also, I noticed that every time it randomly reboots, the battery percentage drops significantly.

Before you updated to nougat 7 did you do a full and complete wipe
which includes wipe system, data, cache, dalvik cache and last but
not least did you do a factory reset in twrp recovery before odin
flashing the Nougat firmware?
Are you 100% sure that you odin flashed the correct Nougat 7 firmware for your S7 Edge?
Flashing the wrong firmware can cause rebooting issues and fast battery drain.
Flashing without doing a full and complete wipe can cause rebooting issues too.

well, i had a clean 6.0 install which upgraded to 7.0 via ota (UK BTU firmware),but thanks i suppose
(and i also factory reset 7.0 many times)

I am getting random reebots since nougat. I flashed the bell nougat (in on Rogers in canada) and then flashed the Rogers CSC. Things seem to check out so I'm not sure what's wrong. I am going to try to get the Rogers nougat files and see if that addresses the issue.

You DO NOT have to do a 'factory reset' every time you have an update, not even for an operating system update.
I don't know where this comes from but it's stupid.
These updates are designed to integrate with existing systems!
You are as likely to solve any issues with a few reboots.
If you have a problem it's likely due to software conflicts of an app you've installed, not the operating system. Android is pretty good sorting itself out.
So, you do a factory reset with all the hassle of trying to get things back to where you were and then you install another app which causes an issue and ...
Pointless as are the cache wipes always suggested. Android is good at managing resources.
At least with a cache tidy up you're not back to square one
I wished folks would stop suggesting factory resets at every opportunity. Mad.

I get them too, i`m on the lastest NEE software updated via ota. Randomly, when i get it out of the pocket, it says enter pin number because your phone was restarted, i`m using fingerprint lock.

Hello I have a Galaxy S7 and since the update to Android Nougat 7.0, my phone restarts randomly, it can stay an entire week without restart and it can also restart 2 days in a row. It's totally random. I have reset to the factory settings and I have reinstalled only the most important applications (facebook messenger, viber, yahoo mail) but unfortunately about ten days after reset, the problem has reappeared. What could be the cause of this problem? For info, the firmware version installed on my phone is: G930FXXU1DQBO. Also, I saw on SamMobile that the countries that received the update later, had a new version. Could the problem come from that? Is this a bug in the firmware installed on my Galaxy S7. Thank you in advance for your help.

Sadly I have the same problem. Oddly enough this is my first handheld which I didn't root and the first I am running into such issues with.
Got a OTA update to Nougat and I am getting almost daily random restarts.
I wasn't able to discern any patterns so far. Sometimes while it is charging, sometimes just being in my pocket. It doesn't run hot as if an app is running havok nothing.
So far I cleared the cache and that seemed to help but alas it started again.
Does anyone have an idea what is left to try? I would do a complete wipe, but others reported that it did jack for them so I am hesistant to try it.

I have some problem. Not to mention battery life severely reduced after update to nougat. usually 5h screen on time to now 2.. max 3h. SAD.

Samsung Galaxy S8+ Random Reboots
Same problem with my Samsung Galaxy S8+ running Nougat. Purchased the phone from AT&T and received it 3 days ago. It randomly rebooted twice so far, once when I was looking at photos and once when using the play store

I have the same problem. It is completely random, it can happen every 2 days or once a week. Even after a factory reset, this problem of random reboots still persists. The firmware version is G930FXXU1DQBO and I still have not received a new update. Have you solved your problem?

No, the problem is still here, i did not receive any software updates so far. Sometimes it reboots even twice a day, random, sometimes 2-3 weeks without reboot. Waiting for ota update, maybe it will solve it.

Resetting on february build helped. Reboot free since almost one month. But im sure it will come back, It did before.

After receiving the February version, did you receive a corrective update? If this is the case, it may be the update that has solved your problem.

My galaxy s7 have the same issue, rom Brazil zto, full cache wipe data, reinstall rom, i don't know what to do it,

Since when did the restarts start? What is the firmware version number of your Galaxy S7?
