My Phone Keeps Randomly Rebooting - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My G2 keeps randomly rebooting. Sometimes it will reboot without me doing anything to it, and sometimes it will reboot when I try to unlock it. The only thing I have done to the phone is root with the method in these forums. I haven't installed any non-market apps or anything. Since the root method was kind of suspicious, I suspect that is the problem. How do I un-root? I have tried the "back to stock" method, but nothing happened after I completed that. How can I resolve this issue? Does anybody else have this problem?
Edit: Even if rooting was not the cause of my problems I still need to un-root in case I need to take the phone back to Verizon.

I read something about beta chrome causing reboots...not sure if your using a beta version of chrome.

Hmm I do not think that I have a beta version of chrome, but just in case, I disabled Chrome and installed Firefox instead. I will update if that appears to fix the problem.
Edit: Nope. The problem still exists.
Also, I managed to unroot using super SU. The problem is that it still says that my phone is rooted when I go to about>status.

I had the same problem today. It happened when I got a text. It rebooted like 3 times one after another. Then it just stopped. Weird.....
Anyone any ideas? I have the T-Mobile version. NOT ROOTED

Mine just shut off entirely no reboot I had to power it on. On the T-Mobile version

Holy crap....mine just went into a reboot cycle for like 20 times. It happened while I was taking a photo. It also happened when I tried to unlock my device. Not very pleased right now. never had a single reboot on my gs4

Mines shut off like 5 times today no reboot it just shuts down lol so T-Mobile is sending me a brand new one and if that has problems to I may go back to my nexus 4 and wait for the nexus 5 or something this phone is amazing in every way except when I go to unlock and it is ******* shut down ugh

Verizon G tab and root question

Hey guys,
quick question. I just picked up a G tab and used Z4 root app. My problem is, everytime I shut off the unit and power it on, for the next use, I lose root and app downloaded apps are gone. Is this a known issue or is there something specific I need to do?
Well maybe you did temporary root ?
I know for a certain fact that after JM6 the z4root wouldnt work well, you might wanna give a go at SuperOneClick.

I try the Z4 multiple times and it was the permanent root option.
Right now it's 100% stock. Where can I get the Super One click?
I just re-booted my VZW Tab and it was rooted with Z4 and it seems to be permanent here. Not sure why yours would not be. Mine is completely stock with root.

Yeah I don't get it at all. The Z4 root app disappear from my list and the new market I installed disappears as well. I have to reinstall both after every boot. Does anyone have any ideas what to do?

I would say you should try a hard reset and re-do it.
SuperOneClicker can be found here in xda.
I can also vouch for Z4 permanent root on the Verizon Tab.
I have a real problem I think. Before I go return it, does anyone have a system dump so I can try and reflash this tab and start fresh? I did a system wipe and now Im getting FC in masses. Nothing stays installed and it keeps asking me to log in after every boot as if I just bought it.
I had a similar problem - I couldn't remove anything I had installed to one point and couldn't install anything new. I ran 'dmesg | busybox grep error' in a terminal on it and had lots of errors on the device used for the /data partition. I had to bring it back to verizon and get it replaced. New tab had been fine since then.

OK. I rooted using Z4 I added Rom Manager and some other apps. I wanted to created a back and the tab when back to the original state, I unrooted and uninstall all the apps and rebooted the Gtab but now it bringing back to the with Rom manager FC.... any ideas?
I'm trying to do a hard reset by pressing vol up and power.... it goes into recovery and it stop about 20% I get the triangle imagen and reboots....
Can someone help me to do the right steps?
thanks
I had the issue where rebooting my tab caused everything to revert back to a previous state and giving me various force close messages. This was on a completely stock Verizon tab with no attempts at rooting. I did a full factory reset dozens of times, and every time it went back to a previous state. I posted on here about it a few weeks ago, and no one seemed familiar with the problem. I ended up returning the tab to Best Buy and exchanging it for a new one. No problems since then.

FYI ~ Galaxy s4 (unrooted) self rebooting in stock rom

Service Provider - Sprint
Model no. SPH-L720
Just picked up my Galaxy S4 from Bestbuy with stock 'Build no.' (MDC). As soon as i started using my phone, sprint pushed a 'over the air' (OTA) update. Had it downloaded, installed, and rebooted.
As I started using the phone more by clicking on the stock app. the phone starts to reboot itself. Long story short. I thought i'll fix it by rooting the phone. Same issue and reboot itself more, kept crashing.
I now unrooted the phone using Odin-OC for FULL ERASE since i have nothing on the phone to begin with. I'm guessing this is a hardware issue. I'm wondering if anyone out there that is having the same issue.
Thanks.
If the Galaxy s4 is faulty (hardware issue), the phone vibrate twice before samsung logo appear.
so from what you are saying as soon as you booted you got the MDL update correct? what "stock app" are you clicking on that is causing the phone to reboot? random reboots are commonly linked to specific software malfunctions most of which can be corrected easily. not saying you didnt get the bad one from the batch but if you provide more info we should be able to work out the kinks if its software related.

Sorry for the late respond, my phone will automatically reboot itself. While in any apps, game app and while using the camera to take pictures; my phone reboot itself. Once it is on, the phone will not respond (freezes) and reboot itself again and again. This usually stop by the forth or fifth time of continues self booting.

i know you said that you are no longer rooted but have you tried rerooting and flashing a differant rom?
Typically random reboots are kernel related. When rooted did you try flashing any custom kernels, mods, try OC/UV, or anything along those lines?
Otherwise, sounds like a faulty device, maybe bad memory.
Same problem
A week after getting the galaxy s4 my phone started rebooting typically 2 times a day sometimes none at all, contacted sprint they said to come in and there fix was a factory reset lol, so decided to root and install triforce rom with kt kernel , still getting random reboots, im playing with the kt kernal settings hoping to find a sweet spot
Honestly... I think it's the MF9 update. It hasn't happened to me, but I've seen it for plenty of people. Everyone here running build no. MF9??
I am now, but my reboots started right when the phone came out

Nexus 4 TWRP encryption with password - I think the phone is gone

So, I have read a lot about TWRP sometimes bugging out and randomly encrypting phones and adding a password to which the user either never set it up or that TWRP doesn't accept it. This has recently happened to me and I cannot use my phone and I don't know what to do.
I have had the bootloader of my phone unlocked since day 1 when I bought my phone (release date last year) and have been running PA ever since. I have never had any problems with it, until about 5 days ago, when I grabbed my phone and everything started crashing and the camera was apparently not available. I didn't know what was the deal with it, so I rebooted the phone and it entered a bootloop (it hangs on the Google logo for about 5 minutes and then it hangs on the PA logo screen forever). I went on to the bootloader and started TWRP to see what was the deal. I originally wanted to grab certain files off the phone in case I had to do a system format, but when I got to TWRP, it asked me for a password which I have never set up and I tried every combination I could think of but it always failed. Everything was encrypted and without the password I couldn't get to it. I tried wiping everything including a factory reset before resorting to a system format (which I read about it and apparently is meant to be the solution). Everything failed because it couldn't access the /cache, /data, nothing. I went on to do a system format and although that is meant to wipe the phone and remove encryptions, it also failed to wipe the /cache and although TWRP says that the wipe is successful, the phone is still encrypted, the password is still around and it bootloops. I have tried the system format like 50 times and always the same.
Can anyone help me out with this? I am currently travelling around but am at a hostel where there is great internet and pcs, so I can install drivers, toolkits and such. I actually started looking around for new phones, since I cannot for the life of me get the phone to start again.
Note: The phone was working perfectly fine, I put it down to have dinner and once I finished, I tried to use it and it started to bug out. I also read around about this, and everyone's issue gets fixed after a system format.
Any help, would be greatly appreciated, that phone is the only net device I have on this trip and it sucks to not have any way to contact anyone.
Thanks.

Don't blame TWRP for something it doesn't do.
Looks like your device have an EMMC failure, sorry.
You can try installing factory image, or last resort restoring by download mode, but I think the flash memory in your phone is gone.

I didn't mean to blame TWRP. It is just that it was when I am on it that I get asked for the password and I was under the impression that it was TWRP that did the encrypting (I am in no way a developer or even very knowledgeable when it comes to the under the hood stuff, I usually only follow the tutorials). But thanks for the reply and the link, I will try that and hopefully get the phone back working.
Also, I did read in a thread that apparently this can occur due to hardware failure, I was just hoping this wasn't the case.
This happened to me on an old phone. Not sure why. Factory image fixed it. Could be a different issue but its worth a shot.

Did it suddenly happen or did you change ROMs?
I tried a new rom for the first time and then went back to wicked 9.1, I'm thinking that triggered something.

Nexus 10 Random Reboots

'My Nexus 10 started to randomly reboot several times a day after the Kitkat update and because it is outside the warranty period I cannot get it replaced.'
It reboots no matter what is running and sometimes it reboots immediately after a power up but never enters a reboot loop.
I've tried a factory reset and running it in safe mode but that didn't stop it.
I've not been able to replicate the reboot fault until yesterday when I ran the BBC iplayer and downloaded a 1-hour Horozon video of about 650Mb and when I tried to play it I got a reboot and that happened consistantly.
I tried a complete power down and reboot then tried to play the downloaded video but it always rebooted.
I tried deleting and re-saving the video incase it was corrupt but it still rebooted.
I tried deleting the video and streaming it and I could watch it that way without any reboot.
I've tried downloading three 1-hour Horizon videos of about the same size and only one plays without rebooting.
A check of running apps shows just the keyboard and a couple of system apps but I still get the reboot when I try to play the saved video.
I thought about removing apps one at a time to see if that would solve it but I've basically got the same apps I had before the Kitkat update.
I wondered if I could undo the Kitkat update and flash the previous rom to see if that would solve it for Kitkat was not a big improvement.
I've never used a custom rom and not run anyting other than stock software.
I would be most grateful for any suggestions on how to fix this rebooting problem and whether going to an earlier version of Android is feasable and how would I do it.
PS. There is a BBC iplayer option to download videos using less resolution and when I choose that option the Horizon file size falls to 344Mb which is about half the size of the original and it solves the reboot problem when playing the saved video.
So it would seem that the BBC iplayer reboot problem is related to file size.
It's fairly easy to downgrade, just Google "nexus factory images" and you should find all the old versions of android straight from Google. There should be guides online for how to flash a factory image. Just make sure to back up all your files to your computer as it will wipe everything.

Thanks for your help.
I've found the factory images and I'm now looking for a simple detailed guide how to do the downgrade.
My Nexus 10 is on 4.4.2 (KOT49H) and I think I'll try downgrading one level to 4.4 (KRT16S) to see if that solves the reboots problem and if not then I'll try downgrading further to 4.3 (JWR66Y).

Thanks for the guide link.
Unfortunately, my laptop is running Windows 8.1 and it is difficult to install the USB driver and Android Development Kit needed to flash previous Android versions, so I've given up until I can find the way to do it.
PS. I've found a way of installing the ADB and Fastboot drivers on my Windows 8.1 laptop and here is a link:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2588979
So I'm back on track to solve my random reboots using an earlier version of Android.
I noticed the iPlayer hard crash thing too. I can play downloads, but as soon as I pause it and attempt to restart, or just slide the progress bar to move to a different part of the video, the tablet hangs then reboots. It's completely reproducible, and doesn't happen on any of my other devices.
Apart from that, my n10 has now gone 20 days since the last random reboot, so it's a lot more stable in general than it used to be!
I've found a easy way to downgrade to 4.3 and would be grateful for any opinion on how safe it is and if anyone has tried it.

Arghh...this thing is a POS. I haven't used it in 2 months. Today I fired up chrome for some browsing. It hard locked within 5 minutes. I left it for an hour plus with the screen on and still locked up. Just frustrated. Worst Android device I've owned.

Either you have a faulty app or your tablets have a hardware defect. The random reboot issue, where the GPU driver would leak memory and force a kernel panic, has been fixed since Android 4.3 in July. This includes the Chrome reboot issue. I've had 2 reboots over 13 months, and both were cause by a ROM issue. I assure you, there is nothing wrong with the Nexus 10. Try a 4.4.2 factory image and see if that solves anything.

I still get random re-boots in `safe mode` which is supposed to only allow apps installed with the system to run which leaves a bad 4.4.2 which could be checked by a re-flash of the factory image or faulty hardware.
I was planning to downgrade to 4.3 to see if that solved the re-boots but I might try a re-flash of 4.4.2 first to see if that works..
I'm not very confident about flashing and I've had the additional problem of working on windows 8.1 on my laptop.
I am running the factory image, 2nd one with same issues. I'm not necessarily disputing what you are saying but there were plenty of people telling me they had a perfect tablet when the memory leak wasn't fixed.

The memory leak was fixed but apparently, it's reappeared for me with the latest kitkat update. Quite frustrating, you'd think Google would be on top of these things. What's the point of fast updates if you're waiting months on end for a fix. If I don't powerdown my tablet when I'm finished using it I can guarantee a reboot during use. In the last 24hrs, it has rebooted on me twice while using Chrome. Quite irritating to be honest
It seems from previous posts that re-flashing 4.4.2 does not solve the reboots and I've not found a way to downgrade to 4.3 on Windows 8.1 to see if that works.
So I've tried another factory reset, but this time I've not allowed any non-Google apps to be installed other than the Photon browser which I need for flash Websites and the Re-boot logger app to record any reboots.
I'm using my Note 3 for the rest of my apps as that is still on 4.3 and doesn't have the reboot problem, but that might change after the KitKat upgrade.
I was getting at least 2 or 3 reboots a day so I should soon know if running 4.4.2 after a factory reset with just two 3rd party apps solves the problem and if so then that will suggest a rougue app. which I can reveal by re-installing the apps piecemeal.
I've just had another random reboot so I've done another factory reset but not signed in to Google so there have been no downloads and the only program I've run is Settings to increase the screen timeout to 30 - minutes.
If I still get random reboots then it is nothing to do with 3rd party apps or updates for I've not downloaded any.
That just leaves the hardware or the original 4.4.2 assuming the factory reset returns to that.
I didn't experience any reboots when not signed into google after a factory reset so I signed in and restored my tablet using Google backup.
I soon started to get reboots again, but I noticed that since the KitKat upgrade a website I use very often was sometimes automatically loading the Play store to try and get me to use their much inferier app. It doesn't happen on my Note 3 which is still on 4.3.
If I tried to close the Play store app to get back to the browser by swiping it away then it crashes and keeps trying to load over and over. If I hit the home button the Play store automatically re-appears still loading over and over, but after swiping it away several times it goes away or stops with an error message asking me to report the crash which I did and the browser is closed.
In order to fix this I disabled the Play store app so that it did not appear in my list of apps.and the website instead of loading the Play store app re-directed the browser to the Play store website which was better for I was still in the browser.
Since I stopped this particular website loading the Play store by removing it, I've just had one re-boot instead of several and my tablet is no longer overheating. I am a heavy user and have my tablet on many hours a day, so one re-boot is acceptable to me.
I've downloaded a Play store apk which I can install if needed but always remove it before using the website which tries to automatically load it.
It is a nuisance and I wish I'd stayed with 4.3, but I can live with the occaisional re-boot that might not be noticed if I only used my tablet lightly.
I'm annoyed that a website can automatically load the Playstore without me requesting it and that KitKat allows it.
I hope my experience helps others who are getting several re-boots a day.
PS
I did a factory reset then removed the Play store app before using the problem website so that it never loaded it in case that was needed.
Flashing the 4.3 factory image downgrades everything. For what it's worth, I noticed that the userdata partition is constructed differently than in 4.2.2(my last factory flash). That could have something to do with it. But also, I've been on custom ROMs since I got the tablet, yet I've never rebooted on 4.4.X. I guess try a vanillish ROM(like RastaKat) to see if that reboots.

Now that I'm just getting one reboot a day and my tablet is running cooler I can live with that and I don't mind re-installing the Play store when needed for continuous updates can be a nuisance.
I finally managed to downgrade to 4.3 and I'm hoping that will solve all the problems I had with 4.4.2
But all seems well at the moment.
I'm not being booted from websites to the Play store, I can use the BBC iPlayer to download and run 1-hour videos and flash player works better.
Google has downloaded 4.4.2 (KitKat) but I'm not going to install it.

SM910F Note 4 5.1.1 Random Freezes and Restarts

Hello there xda.
I have a Samsung Galaxy Note 4 SM910F.
So what is happening to my phone is that whenever I am in any random app lets say reddit or even chrome for example. It will like freeze for a minute or two and then unfreeze.
In more extreme cases it will reboot.
So this happened randomly because I flashed a Stock unbloated 5.1.1 ROM from here back in december and everything was working smoothly and stuff. I had xposed installed and all my apps. Then in February it started with this random freeze/reboot. I had not installed anything else apart from what I had for the last 3 months.
So I restarted the phone, changed the battery and stuff to see whether that will fix it. However it didn't. So I formatted the phone (the soft type) just so I can install another ROM. So I tried another ROM, flashed the correct CP and BL and stuff and then just installed chrome and whatsapp. After an hour or two the same thing happened. So this time I factory reset he phone, like a complete wipe and I installed the unbloated ROM once again with few apps. Same thing happened...
So my last resort was to install Cyonagen Mod. After an hour or two same thing happened...
I don't know what is the problem. I read about some peoples phones emmc failing and thus the freezing, but I am not sure yet.
Please could you guys explain what I should do to fix this?
Thank in advance!
I have the same problem. Starting on mid january. I'm on stock 5.1.1 with root and twrp recovery
Tried backup and factory reset
I went back to stock after I factory reset the phone. And still had the same problems.
People say that its a hardware problem... So I guess I'll have to send it back to Samsung soon.
I think I tripped the knox. I just have to unroot and get it back once again to stock and send it back. I hope that they accept it.
i have the same problem. my model is SM-N910W8 and I bought it from 2nd hand, so no receipt and no prove of purchase.
can I still send it back to samsung to fix it?
same problem as you and now my phone died completely .
my phone was 4 months and he has not supported any longer he died naturally lol.
my operator gave me another free under warranty because the phone had a faulty motherboard and after several back galaxy note 4
This started happening to me a week or so ago and my phone just got stuck in a boot loop after it froze and rebooted. I'm on the latest stock firmware. Tried factory reset, reflashed stock firmware, nothing helps. It still reboots (sometimes it almost gets booted completely, other times it reboots after 2 seconds.

Many thanks. This was driving me mad for a few days, I had tried three different ROMS, completely wiping everything. I eventually went back to stock, which I'm still running and it was the same; it would run fine for a few hours and then start to lock up until eventually it would either reboot or stop responding and I'd have to pull the battery to restart it.
Just not selecting fingerprint security doesn't work, you have to force stop "Fingerprints" in Application Manager (All).
just do not setup the finger print lol. I was having those problemes too when I bought the note 4 until someone tell "do not setup the finger print" lol, not I'm a happy user.... I hope that android 6.0.1 solve the probleme

Still having the same issue around the same time everyone else started experiencing it.
I also was rooted and had xposed installed on 4.4.4 before the issue started happening.
Try the solution provided here & report back..
