You didn't mention if you used Bluetooth or cable headphones.. Please try vice versa.

Same with mine,I had it connected on music system and suddenly it restarted. After that left earphone through aux never works(distortion sound) .
Mine was in warranty that time but with bootloader unloacked so couldn't avail it. Service center guy said an IC had blown and they don't repair only replace the whole motherboard which costs around 6k INR. Moreover on some different service center the guy was ready to repair and replace IC at 3200 INR (with the risk of dead phone and no warranty ) . I don't think it worth it. Just bought wireless headphones which I can use with my next device as well.
That's my case, your can be simpler (service center guy first told me that jack and FPC needed to be replaced at 1200INR before finding out about the IC, try your luck)

Headphone Problem

Greetings all
I've got a problem with my headphone and want to be 100% sure its an hardware fault before having to send it off to O2 repair centre (across the other side of the country)
I'm only getting sound out of one ear piece, I've checked the headphones on another phone and the problem isn't at that end. So I'm wondering if somehow unknowningly I've altered a setting (if even possible) which has chanced the sound output to something like a mono or handfree signal where theres only one plug in your ear?
Is this even possible  any hints would be great!
marto
I guess it's more a hardware problem. It could just be dust/dirt in one of the contacts or worst would be that one contact has been pushed in too much. This can happen when inserting the jack not in a very straight fashion.
If your unit is no longer under warantee and you are brave enough to open it up for cleaning, then do it. I usually use a toothpick soaked in a bit of rubbing alcohol for cleaning, and a needle to push back the contacts.
mda compact ringing prob
do i use this advice for my mda. i put in headphones and no i cant hear it ring. it was making a low low sound but now nothing. i can haear thu the phones
Left channel earphone also not working on mine!
I too have the fault where the left channel cuts out (tho with a bit of jiggling mine kinda works again).
Damn it!!
Anyone have a safe method to cracking the case to see if the jack is stuffed??
(out of warranty of course)

Well I don't know about "cracking the cover" but I did unfortunately send it off for a warranty repair to MPS in Qld :x I lost my high quality screen protector and after about 3 weeks of emails and phone calls the unit finally got back to me....still with sounds coming from one ear
The headphones work perfectly in my motorola v635 so I know they're ok, just tossing up whether to go through the hassle of be without my pda again for another month :?

X2 is the answer
Have you tried Blue Trek X2?

Jack output no sound

Hy. I have such a problem that if i plug in a headset to the jack output i have no sound. But if i unplug it, the speakers are ok. I have given in the phone for repairment, but they said it has no hardware problem. So what? I don't think it could be a softver problem because i have reflashed it for a million thimes after this. Can someone please help me?
I have reverse problem. I have sound in headphones, but no sound on external input/output. Except phone rings. Like headphones is always plugged in. It began after using usual 3-contact headphone jack (instead of 4-contact HP with mic). I have no idea what could it be (looks like a short circuit, but don't looks like one)... need extra help! Can't use my mobile phone and it's vital for me.
For sunnyRio there are two possibilities, one is the headphones, you might wel have a pair of broken headphones, try connecting them to another audio source (CD, mp3, computer, etc.), if they are ok then you could have a "strange" kind of hardware failure, I've repaired lots of stuff in more than two decades of work and I've seen the strangest things...
Your headphones connector might be "dirt" inside, it might be suffering from a false contact (very likely if you do plug and un-plug your headphones a lot), this false contact can be very hard to see, I even found a connector that has its pins broken between the PCB (printed circuit board and the connector itself), this was a tough one, this device (was a walkman) have passed by several repair shops first, the only way of figuring out was by desolding the connector.
Generally, inside the headphones connector there's a switch that disconnects the speakers while the headphones are plugged, once you unplug the headphones the speakers come alive again, this switch can even be a "simple" switch, one throw, one contact and can be switching some electronic analog switch, however, it could be necessary to take it to a very good technician to get it repaired, if you want to send it to Italy...
For alexkass84, the front speakers are not responsible for the phone rings, there's another speaker doing that noise.
Your problem could easily be a simple variation from that of SunnyRio or it could the speakers, same treatment applies in your case.
If any of you are relatively confident with electronics you might even tempt yourselves, look for the service manual in the wiki and go for it.
good luck!

I had the same problem few days ago ... and I also noticed that when I pressed the keboard with a little pressure, sound started working again. But whenever I inserted the headphones and pulled out after the use .. there was again .. No sound !
After few days when I had to change the SIM Card, I noticed that the battery was not fixed properly and after fixing the battery properly again, my problem never existed !
Try and let me know please
Regards,
Hassan
That wasn't battery. I'm often used to change batteries (I have two in case of uncharging), so I didn't observed such an effect (tried also to sqeeze keyboard).
So I bet it's the jack contacts. I need ideas how to clean it without disassembling the device (I don't have heeded screwdriver and havo no wish to give it in other hands). Also I couldn't find spare jack for 4-contacts same the headphones with mic. I didn't solved BT problem, so I can't use my Jabra 620 well (mostly I listening to music).
Now I have WM5 and gonna try broadcomm BT stack. Have anyone tested stack for A2DP with WM5? Can you give a link?

Left audio channel dead from 3.5mm

So, I noticed today that left channel from 3.5mm jacket doesnt work anymore. It worked fine week ago or so. No idea what happened to it.
Any suggestions what to do? Could there be some other option than returning for warranty since im from Finland and I dont see FIN stock roms anywhere near.
Should I wait till HTC gives new ROM for HD and then return for warranty?
Its not a burning matter since I got bluetooth headset which works fine.
Tested with 3 different headphones and none of them worked with HD.
It is not totally dead there comes some noise but really quiet.
One reason why I wouldnt like to return for warranty is that I have nicely installed invisible shield.
Probably the solder on the audio connection jack is not very good or has detached itself..send it back for warranty service mate
Does sound very much like a mechanical failure.
One thing to try to eliminate software would be a bluetooth stereo headset.
The Sony HBH ones are excellent and you might find a friendly shop to let you try a set. The pairing is childs play and you should be able to test the sound from TF3D in a few minutes.

Yep, I got Jabra 620s stereo bluetooth. works fine.
Going to shop now and buying some compressed air, since it looks like these connectors gather pretty much dust and dirt from pockets, will post back later.
it works!
Okay got it working!
Bought that compressed air and used it full power to 3.5mm hole.
There was excessive amount of dust which made it not connect properly.
woohoo no need for warranty

[S/W Bug or H/W Bug] Headphone jack - Earphones issue.

Moto X Style - XT1572 - India
Since last week whenever I'm plugging in earphones/headphones, the phone starts acting as though the earphones are plugged out - plugged in in a loop, like for one second it acts as though its plugged in and at the other plugged out. I tried cleaning the headphone jack with school level painting brush, tried catching if there's anything inside using toothpick and so. But that didnt solve the issue.
Next, 2 days ago, I plugged in the headphones again to check and the issue was still there. However, when I long pressed the button on the headphone, the headset icon in the status bar changed from headset with mic to headset without mic. I tried using Google Assistant by speaking to the headphone mic and it does work even when the icon is that of headset only. This solves the issue for the time until I remove the headphones again and plug them back in manually. So right now, that's the workaround which has helped me to solve this. But the button on the headphone doesnt work when I try to change tracks using it. Seems like it goes inactive after doing its work.
I'm confused if this is anything related to software or this is a hardware problem with the headphone jack. If I remember, this started happening after I updated to the August security patch. Any help regarding the same would be appreciated.
Representative Image
Edit: The headset icon with mic is now shown even when the headphones are not plugged in. This has happened earlier in mid July for 4-5 days but got solved on its own. The phone pretends as though headphones are been plugged in and thus disables media output via the speakers.
EDIT 1: Visited a service center located at Ghatkopar, Mumbai. They said it will cost minimum 3500Rs; that too without a guarantee of working n if it doesn't, I'll have to change the motherboard which will cost 15000Rs.
Did you try another headset? Sounds like the cable for the headset is shorting out or going open.

Yes I did try multi headsets. Right now the phone feels headset is being plugged in when they are not and carries out all media output accordingly. When I plug headphones with a button/mic+button, immediately, the phone opens the google assistant pop. It feels I long pressed the button on the headphones asking to open google assistant.

Gotcha... So the headphone jack in the phone needs to be replaced. Definitely a job for a service center.

Yes. And service center asked $54 to fix it. They are not sure if that will fix the issue or not.
Fix it yourself, it's not hard to disassemble this device. I replaced my battery without issues. The headphone jack is not soldered to the mainboard. Check eBay for spares.
I started having this issue recently. Looks like Headphone jack inside the phone is not working like it should. Same headset works fine on other phones and laptop, but when plugged into this x, it sounds like it is loosely connected.
anyone in NA experience this issue?

I found out that my problem is (I'm still facing it) related to the IC on motherboard and not related to the headphone jack basically. I will update the main post accordingly.

Turns out this is from lint.
I fixed my issue by cleaning out the lint that got accumulated in the headphone jack. Use the tiniest drill bit and spin it gently in the direction of drill bit curves/groves, might take few tries, but this fixed it perfectly.

I used my phone without headphone jack - physically removed from the phone for a week but still faced the issue.
I changed the jack on my moto x pure. I bought a new jack on ebay and installed it.. I STILL had the very same problem!! Just on loop connecting and disconnecting... Maybe a motherboard failure.. I will check later... but I'm just regreting the 20 bucks spent on the new jack plus shipping :'(

Speakers not working partially.

This is a headphone jack related motherboard IC problem. I'm too facing it. You can check this by enabling the headphone jack icon in system UI tuner. What happens is, the phone feels that the headphones are plugged in to the phone while actually they are not. So it keeps playing media via the headphones(assuming headphones are plugged in.) You can also verify this during a call, your screen won't go black while you are in call and you wont be hearing the other person unless and until you enable the speaker.

As of now, changing the motherboard is the only solution that I see.
I sent it to a local repairing shop and these are all that he had tried:
1. Day 1: He removed the headphone jack completely assuming that the jack has been gone bad. Used the phone without headphone jack for abt 2-3 days but still the problem kept on arising.
2. Day 4: He reinstalled the same headphone jack but disabled the connection between the jack and the ICs on the motherboard. That didn't solved the problem either.
3. Day 7: I asked him to enable the connection again and since then using the phone as it is. Sometimes it gets solved on its own and sometimes the problem keeps arising.
But get confirmed if its the same problem as mine that you are facing. If you are in warranty, you don't need to worry, service center will fix it for free.

I'm from Mumbai, India and the service center quoted me a charge of Rs. 15000, that's about 230$. So there's no point for me to spend that much on an old phone. I would have choosed to buy a new phone but at present I can't. Better you visit a authorized service center and let them inspect what's wrong with the device and check how much they charge.
