[Bounty] Verizon Pixel bootloader unlock - Google Pixel XL Guides, News, & Discussion

I don't know if this is the correct place, if not, please reallocate accordingly.
As the title suggests, I'm willing to pay $30 dollars for having the verizon bootloader unlocked, hope more users get into the cause.

There's already a thread on the 2xl that's over 1k and no luck so far.

I don't think it's ever going to happen

---------- Post added at 02:57 AM ---------- Previous post was at 02:55 AM ----------
Also the Pixel XL supported

For anyone interested, I contacted user ismailaba and got my Verizon Pixel XL unlocked, I got it with 7.1.2, and updated to 8.1.1 when he unlocked it, here are some picks:

Does this allow you to toggle the oem unlock switch at will?

The OEM unlock goes grey again. I have t tried locking it back.. I'm not going back! Lol this is where I wanted to be and I'm just waiting for BeansTown to bring g us purenexus 8.1 and I think we'll be golden! ????

Ah ok, I already have mine unlocked but I would love to have the option to lock and relock at will. Did Ismael charge for the service to unlock? Was it done remotely?

What is involved with unlocking the boot loader?

Smail simply uses teamviewer to remote connect to your computer and uses Flexihub to connect his computer to your phone. I did a factory reset and took out my sim card and skipped connecting wifi. I went straight to develop options and turned on USB debugging and he did the rest. He said turn on wifi and reboot and 5 minutes later i was able to toggle oem unlock. He didn't charge me he said he takes donations but not necessary. I was just as skeptical anyone but he genuinely has figured it out.

I can also confirm that @Kream24 is correct. This method is legit. He didn't charge me either, but I did donate $10 to him.

I've run custom roms on every phone I've owned but this one. Really not missing much without root. Definitely fun to tinker with but, I've been able to pretty much do anything I need to without it. Sure it involves more steps using adb and buying pda net to get around the 15 gig Verizon Hotspot. I do miss viper but, I'm having no problems with my phone.
If I were going to unlock I wouldn't be afraid to use smail's method and I'm kind of paranoid about who touches my stuff.

Just to let you know he asked 30 for me to unlock, i did it yesterday, but it is well worth the 30 bucks! I am so happy to be unlocked again!

just wanted to add that he did mine too. he didnt ask for money but i paid him $30. verizon pixel xl 8.1. he was very nice to me.

This is not news. They have always done this. The only exception is verizon and at&t models, when you try those it will say not eligible.

we can buy devices at amazon or ebay through services like qwintry and etc like all othes in usa and europe (but we cannot buy moto devices in motomaker).
how can i post images without using outside links to proof my knowledge? i cant post any proof without this permission.
this isnt so hard to check am i right or not. u can go to official moto site, and check.
UPDATE
I got information that its works only with XT1096 Verizon. Not with AT&T devices. Guys from Russia tried go get unlock code for xt1097 but they was failed

It's not the end of the world, I just don't recall unlocking the bootloader doing that on previous devices.
Sooo does this mean I can put on a custom ROM or recovery? It's been a couple of years since I've messed with that so I'm not sure what's required. I'd love to get Marshmallow on here.

yep. now u can do whatever u want. u can convert your device to xt1095 or other to flash 6.0 or cm or another custom. you decide
if u want to convert your device dont forget about NON-HLOS.bin and fsg.mbn. That is modem files. U should take them from official 5.1 image for xt1097 otherwise your network wont work
I find this really hard to believe. I can't get past the "Could not get unlock data" error when i run fastboot oem get_unlock_data command. What am I doing wrong?
I just got my unlock code for XT1096.

Locked Room
No luck here with the att model. Our day will come at&t people.
I just know this, I'm never buying a motorola device again. Locking people out of their own phones, that they own, is like buying a house and there's a locked room in it that you can never get into.

That isn't a reason to not buy motorola. It was AT&T that forced motorola to not let it be unlocked. Instead you should avoid AT&T. All of the moto x phones that are NOT from at&t can be unlocked easily and officially. So if you want unlocked phones at&t is a bad choice.

And yet other phones by other manufacturers are updated, and Motorola decided mid-stream that there would be no more updates. After the 'fast updates' campaign that never really materialized, this was just too much for me. No Moto again.

How and/or where to Unlock my phone?

I think you ought to have unlocked before going the U-way. Most unlocker I found utilize the Tmobile unlock app to unlock which is only found on the stock Tmobile firmware. I dunno. Anything is possible. I'm also seeking to unlock mine... I'm outside the US. So I guess I have better chance. Wish there was some free way though.. Goes from $20 to $30 on eBay.. Ain't no cheap unlock these days.

Ok I unlocked 3 T-Mobile s7 edge devices thru unlock base and this is what you have to do
You have to flash the T-Mobile firmware back to your phone thru odin.. Take your sd card out and make sure to click nand erase all while flashing T-Mobile firmware .. You can do this before or after you purchase T-Mobile app unlock.. I did it afterwards
Once you have t mobile firmware on phone use the unlock app to unlock.. Then I flashed the U firmware back but I did NOT do nand erase this time.
My phone is on cricket unlocked and working
Remember to nand erase first or you will get a error on the unlock app because flashing other software such as U screws up the unlock app.. So do a nand erase
You do have to use the unlock app but doing it my way here works perfectly!
Works perfectly.. I done 3 T-Mobile s7 's so far

on the top of the unlock to be able to use the phone in the USA (and we're not offering cleaning service)
which means you won't be able to use in usa
but please contact them about it
I just got unclocked from a seller on ebay. Presently $69.5.. Before unlock my imei was blacklisted. But now imei appears to be clean. Is that how they unlock? Clean imei and then place a call to tmobile for unlock? If there's anyone wanting to unlock, go for esn cleaning 1st (about $20) and call tmobile to unlock your phone and see if they'll do it for free.

It's a messaging app like WhatsApp, Viber, etc. Download it on Google Play Store or Apple AppStore.
I got in touch with him through Facebook of all places, ty!
He is telling me the phone has to be rooted before he can unlock the SIM.
I have been reading the forum he linked me to to root the S7 but it seems like a lot has gone wrong for many people who have tried to do it.
I'm on pg 5 of the post and will update my next move, as always open to advice, ty!
So just got done rooting and then Unlocking device, root wasn't that bad to do but I am getting a constant notification telling me unauthorized changes were made and to restart the device to undo changes. Now I am supposed to use Odin to flash my current rom G930PVPU4APL6_SPT4APL6_SPR_Sprint_USA_6.0.1.zip and then turn off OTA updates, not sure how to turn OTA off yet or that I want to, due to security updates?
If you unlock you device you just can flash again the same firmware that's you use to root and from this point just upgraded but you can ask to the guy that's unlock if you can flash it... I think that's you don't will have trouble since you are with the official one of sprint in my case I lost the unlock because I pass from sprint room to a U room and after that I back to sprint but if you do the upgrade with the same official firmware I think that all gonna be OK, just ask before...
Yes I flashed back to PL6 build 6.0.1 so all is good! I am back to latest stock ROM, Un-Rooted and SIM Unlocked! I am very HAPPY! I Recommend www.simunlockremote.com to anyone who needs SM-G930P SIM Unlocked. Very good service.

VZW: Tethering available? Require Hotspot subscription?

Hi All,
I'm very interested in the Moto G5 Plus, and I see that it already has Unlock Bootloader and Rooting threads, but I am looking to see whether or not tethering is a thing on Verizon G5 Plus. I would like to use my data plan but not have to pay extra for the hotspot.... they already gouge us on the price of the data plans...
It tied to your sim. So they will know you are using tethering.

This is true, but in the past and even with the Moto Z Play Edition they had tethering enabled out of the box without the need for a separate hotspot data plan... That's more towards what I'm looking for in this phone.
its a combo of what services are tied to your sim, and what the phone supports.
you can root and enable it if you don't get it out of the box.

I have not seen any root method on here for the US version. I believe the current root is for an Indian variant, I believe the XT1686. If I am wrong on this can you point me to a root method tutorial for the US XT1687. We just got this phone for my sister but I was holding off on rooting until a solid method was available with a non beta TWRP recovery built. Again if I am mistaken on this please point me in the right direction. Thanks.

I'm quite positive this phone will support tethering without the provision you mention since this is not running Verizon branded firmware. Much the same as some of the older Verizon branded phones that could run a aftermarket ROM, which totally bypassed the provisioning flag that Verizon put in place. Furthermore if you are already on one of Verizon's newer rate plans, then tethering is supported by pretty much every phone they have without provisioning. I'll have my sister give tethering a shot and report back the results.

Out of curiosity, the current root thread here actually doesn't say any specific version... I've posted there looking for input, but I've read through the entire thread and can't find anything specific....
Please correct me if I'm totally missing where it indicates version (other than the screenshots clearly not being english... lol )

OK, sounds good. I received confirmation from someone on T-Mobile that it's not required for a mobile hotspot data plan.
I'm excited about Verizon though.

As far as root goes, that post is made by a guy in Brazil and the links he provides are for videos by a guy in India. The US variant is different than the international versions. I wouldn't feel comfortable using that root method and messing something up since there has not been a recovery image released yet. Once you unlock and attempt to root, if it fails and you have no recovery image, you are hosed. I prefer not to soft brick my phone and make it unusable until someone provides a valid root method with recovery images. I personally own a Moto X Pure that is unlocked and rooted, but it is well documented unlike this brand new device.
Well, give it time guys, the device just came out. once everything is rooted and all, there will all sorts of mods

I agree, I'm in no rush at all, as I appreciate all the effort the Developers put into these devices. Most of it on their own time. I was just giving solid advice for rooting a device if you are a non developer like me. I can't afford to force the issue and mess up my phone with no way to restore it. I am glad to wait for a US version root method with a restore option. Hopefully that will be soon , if we are lucky.

Lol, that is definitely true.
I'm just impatient and was hoping it was good... not "too good to be true" lol

As far as root goes, that post is made by a guy in Brazil and the links he provides are for videos by a guy in India. The US variant is different than the international versions. I wouldn't feel comfortable using that root method and messing something up since there has not been a recovery image released yet. I followed that root method on my US g5 plus and it worked fine. It's a solid method you just have to follow the instructions to a "T".
That's good to here but there still isn't any recovery files if something goes wrong. You rolled the dice and came out a winner, might not be the same for someone else. I'll wait until recovery images are available, especially since the phone isn't my own.

If you can obtain root using the methods mentioned here (rooting requires an unlockable bootloader, and a voided warranty) you can add this to your build.prop:
net.tethering.noprovisioning=true

I have the EU/Intl version fully unlocked. I can tether with the hotspot using my tether allowance.
If I root my device and edit my build.prop as you've stated what exactly does this do?
Does it mean I can use the inbuilt hotspot/tethering function but instead of using my tether allowance it uses my mobile data?
Changing the build.prop allows you to tether if your verizon plan doesn't include tethering without a separate charge. Newer verizon plans have tethering included as part of your data (ie use it how you like)

OP6t T-Mobile converted to international safety net failed

Dear all,
now i bought 6t phone only one month before from Aliexpress.com, but the cheater seller sent to me a t-mobile converted to international and he didn't acknowledge
but now i updated to android 10 through the oxygen updater
the problem of the safetynet fails arises to me when i tried to use a McDonalds app then i searched about the problem i found it because of the safetynet is failed
then i understood that the phone is unlocked and converted from T-mobile
so now some apps not working like netflix, McDonalds , google pay and i don' know what else i will face soon
I don't want to root my device, because i didn't before and i don't have experience with that
i searched and found some people talking about magisk and it can fix the problem
i don't know it will fix or not and how to do it without root
if anyone can help me please to fix this.
thanks all
You need to root and fix the problem with Magisk, or downgrade back to stock T-Mobile in order to get a certified Playstore, and Gpay to work. Until T-Mobile offers Android 10 there isn't a option other than the mentioned.
Rooting and installing Magisk will fix your problem now. However, once T-Mobile releases Android 10 for their devices then that issue will be gone. Until then we just have to find other ways. Good thing you are on the XDA-Developers forum. Most of the answers to your problems regarding phones can be found here. I hope this helps.
So rooting is the only way I can do now to get Google pay works and play store certified
But what rooting will do for my phone
And is rooting my phone will erase all data
I would pursue refund from seller. Get Ali to kick his butt off the platform.

Good luck! However, if you root the phone you can bypass the problem. It is not hard and I recommend it :good:
How much did you pay and what would you expect for a refund amount?

I hope they will refund something I requested 150$ as I know if they approved they will give very little amount, I expected from them not more than 50$ if they gave as they taking seller side as some buyers also said
I will try to root it
But a question please, what will be changed if I rooted my phone ?

Okay but if T-Mobile released The update can I use it while I am on international rom now or I have to change something again
Also I am not in US, so at that time I can use it normally with my sim or what?
Because if any troubles I think I will root my device

While I am searching I found that you have to use a magisk hide prop to hide from it and bypass the safety net
I didn't root till now
But I will wait to check first

So I have a converted T-Mobile OP6T to Global version and having the same playstore certification issue after the A10 update. T-mobile now has a A10 update. How would I covert back? and if i decide to do so, what will be the drawbacks? will i get sim lock issue? or what if i the IMEI has been changed? would that cause any issues?
