Hello,
USB-tethering causes bsod on Windows 10. Tested with 2 different OP5 phones and 3 different PC.
Running Android version 8.0 and tethering works with other Android phones just fine.
Is there any solution for this? See attach.
Same happens here, seems to be a bug with the drivers. Regardless, the tethering on Windows is very buggy anyway, with any phone, sometimes it just freezes the whole UI for a few minutes. I've read it's a Windows issue and you can fix it by changing the driver in Device Manager, but you don't even have time to do that on the OP5 because it just crashes the OS.
Yesterday I tested this too on 3 different PCs (All windows 10) and all crashed. On linux it works perfect, so it's a Windows problem.
Yup, I can confirm the same thing, Windows 10 x64bit will just crash whenever I'm trying to use the USB tethering function.
I am also facing same issue. any workaround about this issue.
forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/fix-usb-tethering-lags-freezes-windows/-t3039183/amp/ instaling this driver helped me
Same problem here, pixel 2 + windows 10, crashes instantly once USB tethering is turned on.
I've just tethered it to my Windows 10 PC, changed the USB config from charging only to MTP. Everything is up and running. No issues.
I'm running standard 8.1.1 on the OP5 and the latest Windows 10 software fully patched on my HP Spectre laptop (8gb memory, I7 processor).

I am using Vista Ulitmate 64 bit and have increased my ram to 4 gig from 2 gig. With 2 gig the WMDC works fine and i have no problems syncing.
When i increase to 4 gig i cannot connect, i am aware of the issue surrounding to vista and 4 gig of ram although most of these are 32bit issues and thus not effecting the 64 bit version. Whilst WMDC has an issue all other USB devices work fine and thus i think this is a WMDC issue
I have removed the additional ram at present and all is fine again, however i should be able to use 4 gig
Any help much appreciated
given the lack of response looks like this could be an unusual problem.
is anyone else using WMDC with 4 gig of ram? This would help me to discout WMDC as the problem
Resolution using Vista, Multiple PDA that will not SYNC
A USB composite device does not work after you disable and then enable the device in Device Manager on a computer that is running Windows Vista
SYMPTOMS
On a computer that is running Windows Vista, you use Device Manager to disable and then enable any child device of a USB composite device. When you do this, the child device may not start correctly. Additionally, you may receive an error message in Device Manager that resembles the following:
This device cannot start (Code 10)
This problem may occur if the USB composite device is plugged into the USB root hub of the host computer.
RESOLUTION
To resolve this problem, install the hotfix that is described in the following Microsoft Knowledge Base article:
934796 Error message on a Windows Vista-based computer that is running a USB composite device: "STOP 0x000000FE"
Microsoft Windows Mobile site HOTFIX download is conditional completing a formal request that says sending HOTFIX to email address 8-hours.

AXEL MARY Mun ROMS and Vista
I have Vista 64 with 4 GB RAM. My previous mun ROM with my Trinity M700 was not even recognised by WMDC and it crashed Vista. So i change to AXEL rom and it synced, woo wo. However, I didn;t lkike AXEL rom, had loads of bugs so I went for Mary 7.1 and now i have the usual WMDC not seeing the phone and the system crashes. My M500 syncs fine. Wierd. On my XP machine all is OK. It's a real pain not being able to Vista sync. Anyone have any ideas

I am currently running windows 7 ultimate 64 bit. Whenever I try to mount the phone via SD on my PC, either 1 of 3 things happens: It detects the SD temporarily, then says the entire card has 0 bytes available, and 0 b total. 2. It recognizes the device normally, 14.7 gb available or whatnot, but whenever I try to drop an item on the SD, it stays in the "discovering...moving..." state permanently. 3. It doesn't detect the SD card at all.
I know I'm not the only one with this issue seeing as how I called sprint and they said it's going rampant with calls about the same issue. I've also seen it on other boards such as:
http://forum.androidcentral.com/sprint-epic-4g/31918-not-recognizing-epic-4g-usb-drive.html
Has anyone here had these issues and been able to fix it?If so..howso? I'm at wits end and about to downgrade back to Windows Vista..::Shudder::
Sounds similar to the issues that were happening with the captivate. Unless there are some 64 bit drivers you may be out of luck for now. I would try installing kies as that's what worked for me. Aldo just make sure you have the correct settings for USB and the SD.card.

I'm running Win 7 64-bit (Ultimaite on one, Premium on another) and have had no issues at all with mounting the Epic in USB mode.
You did format the microSD in the Epic, right?
A friend of mind formatted the card in his PC and had trouble with the Epic reocgnizing it properly. He then reformatted it in the Epic and has had zero issues since.
The only device I've had where the miniSD card doesn't show up when the phone is in USB mode is the Xbox 360 (which was disappointing).
Any link to kies by chance? ;/ I'll try that..will also try disabling driver signatures when I get home.
Same here. I have pluged in to 7 64bit Ult. 7 32bit Ult. And biz. Also Vista and XP. No problems. I've pluged it in on more to because I use it today to take movies around. I seem to be The Red Box in my family. Worked nice. Loving it! ;-)

Windows 7 Ult 64-Bit here as well. I can occasionally get it mounted and transfer files, but half way through the transfer it just craps out on me and usually kills explorer.exe.
Messed with drivers and still nothing. Everything is set up right.
I think the problem is the phone doesn't like some USB ports. It's fine on my laptop, but on my desktop PC, the front USB ports give me glitchy behavior (including 'driver problems') when doing mass storage. Plugged into the back and it was fine. Running 7 64-bit here too.
It's been rock solid since I did that.
For some reason I couldn't mount my phone as a drive until I turned off USB debugging. Settings -> applications -> development (i believe)
I have windows 7 64bit and it works every single time now. I've transferred tons of stuff. I never even formatted my card.
Works fine for me! windows 7 64 bit, i did have to unplug and plug in to another usb to get it working.

Same for me...its like a musical chairs thing..
Mine has worked fine on Windows 7 Ultimate 64 bit without any problems at all. No switching ports out or anything of that nature. Maybe I'm just one of the lucky ones?

it wouldn't work on my macbook pro or my win7 64 bit (professional) desktop's front USB ports. However when i tried the back ports it worked fine. Go figure.
New Windows drivers from Samsung
I suggest that Windows 7 users install the latest driver from Samsung. There is a new version dated Sept. 1.
It has been working fine for me since day one on my laptop and home pc. Both are running Win 7 Ult x64.
I would suggest updating your Samsung USB drivers if you're having an issue though.
There is new set of USB drivers dated Sept. 1, 2010 that works fine. I just downloaded the drivers and ran the installation program before I plugged in the Epic. When the Epic was plugged in, Win 7 64-bit installed the hardware and I had full access to the SD card. In addition, the USB plug was not on the back of the PC but was on the front of the computer case using a cable to a USB motherboard header.
As usual the problem comes down to having the right driver.

Anyone know another link? My Win7 ultimate 64-bit won't connect with my phone. But my win xp works fine.
Hi
Got a new galaxy tab and cannot get any joy out of usb connecvitiy.
On both Windows and Linux when I connect the device to a usb port I get no response whatsoever from the host operating system.
I have tried changing the usb settings under Settings|Wireless and network|USB Settings
I've also tried it with both USB Debugging enabled and disabled.
Nothing whatsoever... as if I did not even plug the device into the host OS.
Anyone else experiencing this issue?
Thanks
I had the same problemon one of my computers running windows 2003 but it worked fine on another with windows 7
Thanks for the reply - I get the same result on Windows XP, Windows 7 32bit and Linux
Took the device back today - seems USB is faulty.... waiting for replacement.
Hello,
I still use a WM phone (waiting for WP7 Focus or HD7 or Omnia7 like phone or iphone 5 to come to verizon to upgrade). I have WP7 x 64 enterprise (legit) on my PC and my laptop. My PC runs the remote ndis network no issue whatsoever. Using the same phone and cable or other cables on my laptop and the ndis appears when I first plug it in and then disappears before I can even use it to browse the web.
I thought maybe it was something I installed on my laptop so I just did a fresh format - even tried my technet version of Windows 7 with SP1 integrated - it still has the same issue before I install any other drivers - the ndis adapter shows up for a second then it is gone and my phone is no longer connected for network sharing. I can however still access the storage space on my phone from my laptop. I also tried updating the inf chipset.
I have a much older Z laptop that doesn't have this issue. It only occurs with my z1190x. I was curious if anyone else has encountered and resolved this issue as I'd prefer not to replace my laptop for at least another year.
I forgot to mention, I also updated to the latest BIOS and installed all other latest Sony drivers after and it still occcurs. I've also tried disabling power savings and plugging in the laptop to power.
I'm able to ping an IP for about 5 seconds if I start in time otherwise it goes away before I can even ping.
I also just tried formatting it with Windows 7 x32 and it has the same issue.
I realize that not everyone will have experience if your hardware differs since it seems unique to this particular laptop but I was hoping someone might have experienced it and found a work around.
Has anyone been able to/or know how to the focus recognized by windows 7 64 bit, its not even showing up in my device manager.
I have no problems syncing wirelessly or w/ USB cable on my home laptop (Ultimate 64-bit) and my work laptop (Enterprise 64-bit).
Michael.
I didn't have any issues using it with Windows 7 64-bit either (Ultimate and Home Premium).
Sorry, I know it's no help, but I have a laptop and PC both running Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit with no troubles, including wifi sync with the PC.
no problems here. Are you connecting directly to PC or to a USB hub. I had problems before with USB hub.
I think it might be my cable after looking more into it. Thanks
FWIW, I am using the USB cable that came with my Nokia N900 (also using the Nokia N900 charger).
Michael.
I am having the same problem.
Windows Phone 7 doesn't use Windows Mobile Device Manager. It uses Zune. You won't get a WP7 phone to show up in WMDM on any computer.
Zune will still have to communicate to the phone via device driver.
I just connected mine via USB cable and looked in Device Manager under Portable Devices and the SAMSUNG SGH-i917 is there.
Michael.
Did you try installing Zune manually? I believe that's what I did first.

I'm running 64 bit Windows 7
Do you have your phone set to be a tethered modem? I run win7 64-bit, and the samsung driver fails to install every time.. If you're just looking to see your phone, open up diag and hit *#7284# (if I remember correctly, turn it back to zune-sync and plug your phone in.. Zune will autostart and it'll recognize the phone.
Probably no dice on tethering with it though, unless samsung releases a new driver, or possibly a different installation method.
Focus and Win7 64
I had the same problem with my focus. The only thing that ultimately worked for me was to plug it into a different USB Port. It was recognized as a new device and I haven't had the problem since.
If you're talking about tethering, try this to install the drivers:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=9575346#post9575346
I've never had any problems just connecting to Zune in the normal sync mode.
