possible root Verizon xl - Google Pixel XL Guides, News, & Discussion

I have Verizon xl and oem was grayed out. I just happened to have my phone hooked up to adb/fastboot so I decided to checkout oem unlocked and it activated and turned on when pressed it. Just to make sure I turned off my adb/fastboot and it greyed out.Im on 7.1.2. I now have unlocked bootloader, yahoooooooo!

RMA device?
Sent from my Pixel XL using Tapatalk

yup, but bootloader was definitely greyed out and tried activate it many times without succes. When connected to adb/fastboot it was greyed out still but when toggled it.It changed color to blue and greyed out became ungrayed, sean

This isn't new. I think all RMA Verizon devices come with possibility to unlock bootloader, its not grey out...

Confirmrd OP got lucky. Tried same steps on RMA pixel and it didn't work. Not all RMA Verizon pixels can be unlocked.

Amazon Edition OEM Unlocking Option?

I just got my prime edition and when I was setting it up I enabled the developer options from the settings. And there is a option for "OEM unlocking" and the description is "Allow the bootloader to be unlocked". Has anybody seen this before? And could it actually allow the device to be rooted? I'll try exploring this more tomorrow but I was wondering if anybody has tried this before I get my hopes up.
There have been phones with the OEM Unlocking option before which can't really be unlocked. This option doesn't mean the device can be unlocked unfortunately.
It cannot be unlocked. I ended up selling my Prime G4 Play the day after I got it and buying the regular flavored edition instead.

So now I'm curious, what does that option do? Does it toggle the lock/unlock on phones that can unlock the bootloader and just do nothing when it can't be unlocked (as in our case)? Or does it do something else entirely?

Not entirely sure about this, but I think in non unlockable devices there is something else that is done to prevent unlocking. The option does what it does on other phones, but what it does is not enough to unlock the phone in this case. If they could make the option useless they might as well remove it. So, I think there are more governing factors besides this option which tell if the device can be unlocked or not.

Did I shoot myself in the foot by updating??

So I recently bought a brand new S8 (G950u) T-Mobile variant from Ebay that was part of a 2 for 1 offer. The phone was sealed and still on G950USQU1AQD9 firmware. While checking the phone out and enabling Developer options, I notice the that the OEM Unlocking was available so I enabled it and turned the phone off.
Since I haven't connected this phone yet, I've been using it on wifi so the update nag kept popping and I delayed it until last night when like a freaking :crying:moron I upgrade to G950USQU1AQGA. So OEM Unlocking is gone now. I downgraded back to G950USQU1AQD9 but of course that didn't help.
So am I SOL??? Is the the bootloader now locked forever????
There is no bootloader unlock for the 950/955 anyways, so even if that option was there it didn't do anything. Now I don't know if the August update patched root or not though.
Thanks for the answer even tho I posted it in the wrong place.
That's for allowing forceful recovery in case of corruption. Nothing to do with bootloader.
Nah, not foot shooting here. I have copies of the old firmware. If you want back, just pm me. As long as the bootloader isn't updated we are good.

T-Mobile OnePlus 6T OEM Unlocking Option Greyed Out... Why?

Does anyone know why the OEM unlocking option in the Developer Options is greyed out? I contacted T-Mobile and they will give me an unlock code within the next 48 hours. However, I cannot turn on the OEM unlocking option. It's currently off. Help, please.

Have you not been paying attention?
The T-Mobile version is BL locked until paid off.
Once paid off the IMEID must be provided via a form to get an unlock code.
Do you own it the phone or you're financing?

Good, after you get the unlock code and unlock the phone the option will be un-grayed. Also, if you haven't got the code yet, just try the unlock app, it's likely that'll work.

There is no SIM Unlock code to get on T-Mobile phones, you're either eligible/approved to get the phone SIM Unlocked or not.
When you select Permanent Unlock,it will unlock, reboot the phone, the Device Unlock app disappears & that's it.
Then,if you wish, you're free to OEM unlock/get the token from OnePlus,etc.............

Yeah that's what I meant, some other people mentioned that TMobile told them the same thing as op but they had to just go to that app and it worked.

Exactly, just wanted to emphasize, since there's still some that "didn't get the memo" & keep asking about it/checking their e-mails for something that'll never arrive/etc........
That's why I don't mess with chats/Twitter/etc...... a phone call to your dedicated Team Of Experts during normal working hours will get accurate information vs the off-hours overseas non-T-Mobile employee support.
It's obvious they're reading scripts & sorely outdated ones at that.

Yup, just wish we didn't need an unlock bin. Locking down oem option is already enough.

You should apply for the bin now so you don't have to wait later.

T-mobile H918, is my phone permanently unlocked or only temporarily?

I bought the phone from Ebay and it was advertised as unlocked, but when I got the phone, I noticed the T-Mobile Device Unlock app with the options of permanent unlock or temporarily unlocked. I tried doing permanent unlock but it said it didn't work, but temporarily unlocked did.
What confuses me is that before i try all this, I tried 2 different sim cards from 2 different networks and it worked fine. The app says that if it is permanently unlocked, the app will disappear. So is there a way to check if my phone is truly permanently unlocked or only temporarily?
FWIW my phone has been fully refurbished and the s/n has been altered before. So idk what has been changed on this phone.

I'm pretty sure it's temporary, since not only is it not gone but you also pressed temporary which is allowing the other service to work

weird thing is that my phoned worked as "unlocked" before i press temporary unlock. Unless the seller did it and factory reseted the phone so that i don't see it. But anyways, i went here: https://www.t-mobile.com/verifyIMEI.aspx and entered my imei and it said it has a outstanding balance. Gonna email the seller about that...

Question Regarding Lineage OS on Pixel with Verizon Service

I was planning on buying a brand new Pixel (the first one, not 2, 3, C, XL, etc...) from ebay and loading Lineage OS on it. There were a few things I wasn't sure about though. Do I install Lineage OS before or after activating the phone with the carrier or does it not matter? Also, if I have to activate first is there anything Verizon could/would do that might prevent me from installing this after it's activated?
I don't currently have a smartphone or know much about them but I get the impression Verizon doesn't like people doing things like this. The setup process seems straighforward enough but since I haven't seen anything address the questions above I worry I may wind up wasting money if I don't find out for sure first. Any input would definitely be appreciated! Sorry if these questions are redundant, I've spent a bit of time these past few days looking into setting this up and haven't seen anything that says one way or the other.
You're going to need to lookup a guide for unlocking the Verizon Pixel bootloader if a Verizon SIM has ever been inserted into the device. You don't have to worry about carrier locking however. A carrier lock and a locked bootloader are not the same thing.
What many online guides don'tmention (at least last I checked) is that you should actually factory reset the device twice without a Verizon SIM, then after doing so, you must connect to an internet-connected WiFi source, enable USB debugging, go to developer options, back out of developer options, and then wait 3-5 minutes and then you can go back into developer options and toggle OEM unlocking (so you can actually unlock your bootloader and load a custom ROM.)
The alternative, if there's never even been a Verizon SIM in the phone, is that you can just connect to WiFi and enable OEM unlocking. The bootloader doesn't actually semi-permanently lock until a SIM has been inserted.
Pixels are factory unlocked even when you buy them from Verizon, you can use them on any network without even having to fully pay off the phone. The SIM being read by the motherboard will lock the bootloader, but under no circumstances will a Pixel ever be carrier locked.
Lineage runs great on my first gen Pixel XL (originally purchased from Verizon), so well I actually have decided to sell my Galaxy Note 9 because it feel sluggish by comparison.

Thanks for the reply! The phone I pick up should be brand new so no worries about a SIM having already been in it. Based on what you say about the bootloader locking when the SIM is inserted it sounds like installing Lineage OS before activating the phone and putting the SIM in is the way to go so that’s what I’ll do.
Also, glad to hear this performs so well compared to your newer phone!
