Look, audio performance and dolby atmos are two different things. Atmos adds a lot of noise.
If you want good audio, use Viper4Android, the Magisk module by shadysquirrel works without tampering with SELinux.
Flash the AK4490 patch from the Guides section, it may be integrated in the ROMs but it doesn't hurt asking

I was just wondering if people could comment on how they are getting the best sound quality on their s5.
I generally find it sounds a bit lifeless on bluetooth in my car compared to my iPhone the same bluetooth with the same songs so i've been looking to tweak it.
From what I can tell there two popular ways to improve it.
Viper4Android ( requires SElinux mode to be set to Permissive)
Extremebeats, also needs V4A to work properly? not entirely sure it does anything different to V4A on its own?

What I don't get is Extremebeats claims to support clear audio, SRS wow etc, but they are all different technologies, how can it use them all at once?
The V4A profiles don't seem to mention SRS wow etc at all?

So I'm using the Axon 7 for a few days now and I'm really happy with this device so far.
I listen to music quite a lot myself with Spotify Premium (Extreme Quality) and I do believe that the non-rooted stock Axon 7 ROM provides amazing sound already.
On my previous devices I'd have to unlock the bootloader(, disable system write protection), root and install Viper4Android to get similar audio quality.
I guess I could improve the sound quality even more with Viper4Android now but I don't want to mess with my phone and warranty yet.
There seem to be four audio settings this phone can have on the stock ROM without root:
(1) Dolby Atmos
(2) Headset Standard Hi-Fi audio
(3) Headset Super audio
(4) Nothing? Default?
So I'm guessing the audio settings work like this (excluding sound being played from a Bluetooth device because I don't have such device so I don't know):
(a) Is Dolby Atmos enabled?
Yes, phone uses (1).
No, go to (b).
(b) Is the sound being played through the phone's built-in speakers?
Yes, phone uses (4).
No, go to (c).
(c) So sound is being played from the 3,5 mm audio jack. Is Headset Super audio selected in 'Sound and Vibration' in the phone's settings?
Yes, phone uses (3).
No, phone uses (2).
My opinion when using the:
- phone speakers, the audio sounds better with Dolby Atmos disabled. (Maximum volume seems higher with Dolby Atmos disabled too)
- 3,5 mm audio jack, the audio sounds better with Dolby Atmos enabled with speakerboxes/headphones/earphones.
- 3,5 mm audio jack with Dolby Atmos disabled, the audio sounds the same when comparing Super audio with Standard Hi-Fi audio with speakerboxes/headphones/earphones. (Super Audio is much more amplified though)
Maximum volume differences in my opinion (bigger = louder):
With phone's built in speakers: Nothing/Default > Dolby Atmos
With 3,5 mm audio jack in use: Super audio > Dolby Atmos > Standard Hi-Fi audio
So I wonder what the real difference is between Super audio and Standard Hi-Fi audio except for the amplification.
It would be nice if someone who knows about this could explain me
It seems that Dolby Atmos doesn't work together with the Super audio/Standard Hi-Fi audio settings.
So you can only use one of the three at a time with a headset for instance where Dolby Atmos overrides the Super audio/Standard Hi-Fi audio setting.
I'd love to see some combination like Dolby Atmos + Super audio purely for the amplification only.
And I wonder how the independant dual Hi-Fi chips work like.
Why 2 chips? Is it 1 for audio output/playing and 1 for audio input/recording?
Or maybe 1 for the right audio output channel and 1 for the the left audio output channel?
Do(es) the chip(s) work for all audio output options?
So do(es) the chip(s) work for the phone's built-in speakers as well as for the 3,5 mm audio jack output?
I know this phone is capable of recording in Hi-Fi quality but is that also true if a microphone is connected through the 3,5 mm audio jack?
I don't know so much about the purpose of the independant dual Hi-Fi chips really...
I guess I'm not really the only one wondering about these things or the only one being interested in these things, so if anyone could clarify it, well that would be great!

Probably ZTE use 2 DACs because they haven't found single ADC chip in AKM list or wanted to provide less power consumption solution too.

Regarding different amplification between Super audio and Standard Hi-Fi. I think it is due to only one reason. It indicates that user did change something otherwise no one can hear the difference under normal noise circumstances listening average quality music. There is no technical reason at all.
I am wondering also about the :
- "standard" Hi-Fi
and
- "super (as in superior) enhanced audio performance" Hi-Fi
I think its more than amping ...the soundstage open up. DSP? 32 bit resample?

So based on my request for help in the following thread, I was initially trying to setup ultimate audio experience with ARISE (not only V4A) to run on stock 8.1 (Mar 18 updates). However after numerous tricks and ways to make it work , i reliazed its not possible for now. I also came to know that V4A and Atmos dont live together well and Atmos overrides the sound processing by V4A, which has to be manually reactivated time and again.

I was able to install V4A , Dolby Surround to work together (Arkamys , A3MD crash repeatedly and ICESound breaks the sound at all from speaker or headsets, didnt find a solution for it so far).
One of reasons for me to try Google Pixel with 8.+.+ was to try the new (supposedly) hi resolution bluetooth codecs namely AptxHD and LDAC (a Sony version of Hi-res audio protocol).
Being an amateur audiophile, I bought Sony Wh1000MX2 which supports both LDAC and AptXHD.
A finding which I made was when I paired the XL with Sony Headphones using LDAC, the audio quality was good, however I wanted to make it better by activating V4A and Dolby Surround audio mods. After fiddiling for a couple of hours, I realize V4A and Dolby does not work or recognized the sound output when the headphones were connected using LDAC. It was seen as the V4A driver status showed "Abnormal" and no "Processing" was done. However with the same setup as soon as I changed my bluetooth audio connection to use AptxHD , the V4A and Dolby started working and sound was equally superb with the added value of tuning it more to my taste using the audio mod.
I am not sure why the audio mods are not bluetooth connection protocol agnostic, or why not working with LDAC.
Shared it for information, maybe the gurus would be able to reproduce the setup and post a working solution.

Hi, same problem here. I have a pair of Sony MDR 1000x Bluetooth cans with ldac support. Flashed my Xiaomi Redmi Note 4x to LOS unofficial Oreo to get the ldac codec going (it works indeed), but v4a does not work with this codec. If I choose the SBC codec, it apears to at least realize that it can do something (although changeing effects dosent work). With ldac enabled v4a driver status says abnormal and obviously nothing works. All in all I guess that we cant do anything other than wait, so that some devs will adopt to the new features of Android Oreo.

Not the type to necro old threads, but I believe I've found the solution to your problem. I had this problem myself on my V30 and realized what was making Viper effects not processing. LDAC by default starts off with an audio sample quality of 96 kHz and 32 audio bits per sample. If you can change these settings in developer options, lower the sample rate(sample quality) to 44.1 kHz - the rate used for 90% of all music & audio and the bits per sample to 24. Viper audio effects should work now with LDAC. You will have to do this every time you turn on/pair your headphones to your phone.
Ypu can use James DSP for ldac codec with any sample rate and bits per sample. James DSP has a magisk module and can be installed from magisk.

The only answer I have found is to install Viper Fx and Dolby modules in Magisk then convert Viper to a system app

I want to make Dolby Atmos and Dirac Audio to work at the same time. I have already installed these mods in Magisk. To make them work properly I also installed ACDB for Dolby Atmos and Audio Modification Library for Dirac Audio. I have seen that in my device are 2 processes working in the background Dolby Atmos and Dirac Audio, but someone told me that I can t use multiple audio mods at the same time. What do you guys think? It is possible or it s not?
