I Purchased a fire HD8 just before christmas.
When using the device in landscape and on charge, if i try to enter the pin to unlock the device it doesnt enter the numbers requested.
When do I finally get into the device the presses on the screen do not correspond to where I tap. When not on charge the device is fine.
I have Nova launcher installed and set as default, for when I press home. Portrait mode also works correctly as well whether on charge or not.
Has anyone else had this problem?
TIA
Should have done a search first, seems this is not an isolated incident. Sorry Fire back to the store you go
Mods please close the thread.

hey guys i have a g1 with rc29 in it, a little while a go i dropped my phone, and the slide out keyboard command stopped working so the phone doesnt know when the keyboard is open. and the backlight of they keyboard went out as well. the keyboard still works when i press buttons, but i had to reset my phone to factory settings and now i cant get passed the "Slide Keyboard open to continue" when i want to sign in, because the phone cant tell the keyboard is open any more
Does anyone know how to skip this section, or a command to tell the phone that the keyboard is open?
thanks in advance.
You might consider just taking the thing apart and fixing the switch.
yaa i tried that last night, i just took the back cover off and all the flexcables where in place, there are 5 flexcables that connect to the motherboard and they where all connected, does anyone know what controls that switch ?
You are looking for a SWITCH, not a cable.
i took my whole phone apart even the screen and put it all back together. it was easier than i thought. but i still have the same problem, would anyone know an adb shell command that will tell my phone to change the screen orientation to landscape mode?? or perhaps launch the market app so then it would ask me to sign in ???
i got all the drivers installed and i was able to find some commands, to lunch the browser, maps, the phone settings and some other stuff.
same here everytime i would slide the keyboard the phone would freeze and crash.i even unrooted with the nbh file.i just ended up sendin it in to htc because it was still in warranty
My phone is SM-N900V running Android 5.0. It has recently gotten very temperamental. When I swipe to open it, I can feel the vibration as if I can tapped to open an app, and then s finder opens automatically. I can try to close it, but then it just reopens...I can go through this many times and sometimes it will settle down and behave normally for awhile...sometimes for quite awhile. Sometimes, I will get a reaction similar to doing a long press on the screen when at the home page, bringing up a smaller version of the pages, allowing easy movement between pages...and all this with me doing nothing. I have done factory resets (power off...hold home, volume up and power button to get to recovery and select factory reset), and this seems to work for a short while...maybe days, but then the automatic opening of s-finder is sure to return. Not sure if this is a reflection of the touch screen going bad, or home key, or ???? If someone has a thought on this or what might be the part most likely having gone bad, I can try to obtain a replacement and see if it can be fixed, but I really have no idea what might be the most likely culprit or how to better narrow down the problem. I'm wondering if this maybe was related to a recent update??? Is it possible to roll back to an earlier version of Android to see if this solves the problem? Any help is most appreciated.
Regards.
Uninstall last apps or try to remove screen protector or magnetic flip cover. If not good try to open phone and reseat display flex cable.

When it happens, try to dial *#111*# and choose LCD test. (you may need to power it off or remove battery to exit that mode)
See if there are ''ghost touches'' appearing, or when you secure on it, if appears some touching marks. If so, note if the screen is hotter on that zone. If so too, then your screen has a defect.
If not, it's a screen cleaning problem, or software problem.
Hi everyone,
Whenever I press Control-Alt-Delete on my bluetooth keyboard, my phone restarts. The only problem is that my bluetooth keyboard is a multi-device keyboard which I also use at work with my business computer, and my business computer needs me to use the Control-Alt-Delete combo to unlock it. So, what will happen is that I come back to my desk, hit Control-Alt-Delete on my bluetooth keyboard, completely forgetting that I had switched to my phone before leaving my desk... and my phone reboots, which is pretty infuriorating.
So, here are my questions:
Is this behaviour normal? I've found this link here: http://freaktab.com/forum/tv-player...external-keyboard-shortcut-keys-documentation but that's for Android 4.4.2 and is supposedly only supposed to reboot the phone when it's at the home screen, but I can confirm that this happens whether I'm on the home screen, in another app, or my phone is locked.
How can I prevent this from happening?
Thanks
Hey everybody! I need to know how our child can turn her Fire 8 tablet on from a completely off and powered down state (not sleep/hibernation) and access her home screen where her educational books and games are located without us having to use our parental control password to log into the device; that is, we want her to be able to turn it on without our intervention...AND continuing to be unable to access anything that does require our password to do anything we wish her not to. Her mother simply wants her to be able to turn it on and she's good to go and can read and play games without nagging us about it. It is imperative that the parental controls be kept in place do anything else. Is this possible? Thank you!
As long as the tablet was shut down while in the child account, the tablet will boot up into that account automatically. It will still boot to the lock screen, but all you do is swipe up as usual. Only if you try to change user accounts from the lock screen to one of the normal parental accounts are you then presented with the pin input screen.
However, really, there's no need to shut the tablet completely down unless it will go for days or weeks between use.
But, if that's what you have to do, all your child needs to know is that she will have to hold the power button down for a few seconds until it make that "be-deep" sound and the Amazon logo comes on screen - at which point she can let go of the button. Then the yellow Fire logo while it boots until if finally goes to the lock screen.
Now, this is with the 7th gen Fire HD 8 using Freetime. My son has this one, and that's how it works for us. No pin input needed when it boots straight into his account.
My Fire HD 8 7th gen (douglas) won't fully boot up.
I pressed and held the power button, but the screen didn't show anything.
The reason why this happened is because the battery ran out during the Fire OS update.
I tried connecting it to a Windows PC, but I didn't see anything that looked like it in the device manager.
Is there any way to fix this condition?
If you need more information, please contact me.
I'm sorry. I can't speak English, so I use translation software.

I tried to fix it this way, but nothing appears on the display anymore! There's really nothing on display, not even the Amazon logo.
What I did specifically was to run gpt-fix-16G.sh. Then I saw "Hacked fastboot" on the screen. After that, FireOS came to be able to use normally, so I left it as it was.
But next day, nothing was shown on the screen anymore. Again, I tried gpt-fix-16G.sh and bootrom-step.sh, but It succeeds but does not show the screen. Once, TWRP was displayed for a moment. Also, the backlight was working correctly when operating TWRP. Otherwise, nothing else appeared on the screen.
Is it possible to get out of the current situation?

My Fire seems to turn on correctly.
I found that pressing and holding the power button and volume up button turns it on, and holding the power button for more than 20 seconds turns it off.
So why isn't the screen on?
When I tried to connect Fire to my PC, I periodically get a device connection sound and a device disconnect sound for a moment. I heard it. I looked into it in detail and found that the MediaTek Preloader USB VCOM (Android) seems to be causing it.
Perhaps the Preloader is not working properly.
