Phone is automatically entering touches...brings up s finder automatically - Galaxy Note 3 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone is SM-N900V running Android 5.0. It has recently gotten very temperamental. When I swipe to open it, I can feel the vibration as if I can tapped to open an app, and then s finder opens automatically. I can try to close it, but then it just reopens...I can go through this many times and sometimes it will settle down and behave normally for awhile...sometimes for quite awhile. Sometimes, I will get a reaction similar to doing a long press on the screen when at the home page, bringing up a smaller version of the pages, allowing easy movement between pages...and all this with me doing nothing. I have done factory resets (power off...hold home, volume up and power button to get to recovery and select factory reset), and this seems to work for a short while...maybe days, but then the automatic opening of s-finder is sure to return. Not sure if this is a reflection of the touch screen going bad, or home key, or ???? If someone has a thought on this or what might be the part most likely having gone bad, I can try to obtain a replacement and see if it can be fixed, but I really have no idea what might be the most likely culprit or how to better narrow down the problem. I'm wondering if this maybe was related to a recent update??? Is it possible to roll back to an earlier version of Android to see if this solves the problem? Any help is most appreciated.
Regards.

Uninstall last apps or try to remove screen protector or magnetic flip cover. If not good try to open phone and reseat display flex cable.

When it happens, try to dial *#111*# and choose LCD test. (you may need to power it off or remove battery to exit that mode)
See if there are ''ghost touches'' appearing, or when you secure on it, if appears some touching marks. If so, note if the screen is hotter on that zone. If so too, then your screen has a defect.
If not, it's a screen cleaning problem, or software problem.

HTC HD power off problems

Hello,
I have a problem with my HTC HD. From time to time it shuts down without any reason. When I press the power button I can see the Windows Mobile starting...
Did any body else had this problem?
Is there a solution for this?
Thank you
perhaps your battery is not positioned properly or sitting a bit loose? Try a post-it (or something else thin) on the back of the battery cover..
Mine shuts down and won't turn back on without a reset every time I'm in an area with no signal, it basically stays off while I'm at work.
if you keep getting these kinds of nondescript errors and it survives a hardboot, basically there are three options left:
1) try to flash a different firmware or
2) take it back to the store (flash back first)
3) hope like hlll some guru here gets an eyefull of your problem and knows a quickfix (slim chance seeing the number of daily new posts here and the typical guru tendency towards development as opposed to a supportdesk)
I'd set my hopes on 1) or 2). Good luck however you choose.
Cheers,
Rick
Guys,
I'm having quite the same problem: the touch HD keeps turning on and off automatically, as if the power button is pressed (but its not).
Moreover, the power button just don't work. I press it and nothing happened.
I have master reseted the phone and also have changed its ROM, but the problem stills.
Unfortunatelly I'm start thinking that its a hardware problem.
I guess that a solution shoul be reassing the power button, disabling it. Is there any app through which I can reassing the power button?
Have you solved the problem? I have a similar prob, my power button doesn't seem to work when i press it, and if i soft reset (through HD Tweak) when it boots I get a warning message saying " Warning your device will power off and you'll lose your data, Yes No".
It's like the button is half pressed all the time.
Couldn't find any info on hard key remapping either.
I used to have a similar problem but it was with the screen....
The screen used to turn off suddenly without a reason but the phone is turned on and I keep receiving calls. After returing back to my Supplier in Egypt they replaced it with a new one after testing it for three days.
I'm using the new one sine 20th of December 2008 and nothing happened again
Well if you guys are in the US (or have HSDPA/UMTS disabled) then re-enable them (that should hopefully get rid of the restarts in low-to-no-signal areas).
Hope it helps

Strange Touchscreen NAND Issues

ok, I have a strange issue that I can not seem to find the answer to. Whenever my phone locks after not being used etc. When I wake it up, the touchscreen will not let me unlock. It takes me close to 50 attempts to do so. However once I actually am successful in getting it unlocked. The touchscreen works flawlessly. I have tried several different builds, all of them I have the same issue. I have done Task29 and started fresh on that front each time. I tried a couple different radios. Any suggestions?
**** man i got the same problem! i tried hard reset, rom updates, other buils but it wont go away!
plz someone help us!
Hi,I'm using BOYPPC-SHIFTPDA GINGER 2.3.3 RAM_V5 works great so far the best that I tried. After u flash android it's recommended to wait few mins until it loads everything then do a shut down - not a restart.then again u wait few mins and u do a second shut down. after that the os should work fine ,at least for me works great. if that doesn't help ,try to reinstall everything from the start..hspl radio etc.
You could just turn off the lockscreen? Get 'NoLock' from the market. That should do the business if you want.
I've got the same problem since 5 days, It started when I started using WIFI and turning off my 3G ..
you have the same problem my hd2 has....it is a hardware issue. the screen becomes unresponsive. if you still have warranty send it in for a repair. if not... repair it yourself. it's not that hard. the screen wire is probably just loose.
follow this video to take apart your hd2.

Sounds like a similar problem that I'm experiencing. If I wake the lockscreen with the send key instead, it works. When I boot I get exactly one shot with the end key then it locks up again. I'm able to use it with the send key, but concerned it might get worse. If anyone finds the solution please post.
I actually for the first time had this, and I know this is going to get flamed but its not the Screen thats the problem. And I think (BIG IF) that the dreaded unresponsive screen issue that we keep reading about Majority of them I think is not the screen.
I have 2 HD2s and both have worked flawlessly without any problems, but today I was playing with my test phone that doesnt get used that much and I noticed after installing a new rom that my screen after I played with it for a bit went black (sleep) and when I woke it up it wouldnt respond, first thing that crossed my mind is I just lost my digitizier, and started wondering okay why, I went as far to re-flash WinMo stock HD2 rom, same issue, so I decided its time to find out exactly whats causing this, and I found it. I wasnt going to make a post again cause I figured people would be "Not another thread about this" but I know whats causing the screen issue, at least this is my suspicision and I have temporarily fixed mine.
The problem is HARDWARE, The Culprit: THE END KEY (Red Button)! The Answer to "How or Why": The "End" key is used to turn the phone on and off or to put it in sleep mode, it is the most used key out of all 5 keys, it is used probably 7x more then all the rest, Its used for just about everything, now how does this cause the unresponsive screen? Easy, the phone lock or sleep is associated with this key, Its the only way to make the screen go off other then waiting for the time out period. Because by habit we mostly hit the end key to turn the screen off the phone automatically associates this with locking the phone, once that happens the screen becomes unresponsive because of several reasons: 1) The contact under the actual key has dirt which causes the button to stick in the down position, 2) the contact is bent which the "end" key is pressing down on the contact which is making contact with the board and causing it to be unresponsive, 3) The contact is worn. This is the reason why if you press the end key a few times (anywhere between 2-10) and then try the screen responds, this is cause your "unsticking" the key which then lets the screen respond.
Most of us when we hit the end key press to the far right to avoid hitting the back key (The button with the left arrow) which causes the end button to lean toward the right. But you can wake the phone up with the other 4 keys to the lock screen which will allow you to unlock the phone. As a temporary fix for myself, on my test phone I now make sure to press on the left side of the key to prevent this from happening, since its a test phone I'm not worried, but the real solution is to take the phone apart and clean the underside of the end button, and the actual contact with alcohol to remove the build up of dirt and whatever else. And also if the contact frame is bent to GENTLY bend the right side back up alittle to stop it from happening, or sending it to htc and letting them fix it.
We have to RE-TRAIN ourselves to start using the other keys to wake the phone up and not rely on the end key so much.
Hope this helps anyone finally why we have this problem. And if it works for you then hit the Thanks button

[Q] My phone is junked - unable to drag-up the LockScreen in 1, 2, 3 ... attempts

I have an HTC surround. I am having a problem sliding up the lock-screen. It takes number of attempts to slide up the screen. Sometimes it results in missing the incoming call. It appears to me there is a mechanism (an observer) which negates the touch event if the phone is in pocket while the phone is locked. In my case, even when I am sliding the lock-screen up with my finger, the observer is negating the action and the lock-screen comes back from 20% slide-up. Other than that, the touch-screen is working perfectly fine.
Q:
Is it a software or hardware issue?
Is there a workaround (something like hacking into the ROM and playing with the drag sensitivity)?
Should I dump it and consider myself "done with the WP7"?
P.S.
1. I got this unlocked ATT phone from US and now using it in middle-east.
2. (Not sure but) I have heard that ATT only return the phones with monthly contract.
3. The problem started after 12 days of first use.
4. I tried hard and soft reset, with/without nodo and latest updates. But it’s still the same.
It sounds most likely like it is just an inconsistent/bad touch panel on the hardware. You could attempt to replace it yourself by purchasing another one on eBay, but I doubt that any software fix would be able to fix this behaviour. I have a Samsung Focus WP7 and this never happens, the only time the lock screen comes back down is if you lift your finger before getting to the top. So my best guess is that the touch screen just cuts out before you can get the phone unlocked. Sorry....
I have the same issue. Does anyone have a solution, please!!. I'm in another country, so I can't return it. Have to fix it!
same issue here.
Do you have anyone in the US that you could send it back through? You might also try contacting HTC directly. I believe the phone has a 1 yr warranty on it. At least that's what Asurion told me when they sent me one as a replacement for my old Tilt 2.
My Phone have same problem, i install NO-DO next install PreMango but not helped.
I have no such issue with my sourrond, with mango 7720 and speech for phone accessibility turn on you only have to slide less than a inch to unlock screen...
A possible answer
After some researching i found this in one of the forums of HTC
Display Not Working on the HTC Surround
Black/Blank Screen
Verify that the battery is properly installed in the device.
Attempt to power the device on by pressing and holding the power button for 3 seconds.
If the device won’t power on (also indicated by no LED’s) attempt to charge the device. If there is no response from the device when attached to a charger and power source, treat the issue as a Power/charging issue.
If the device will or is powered on:
Verify that the device is not in hibernate mode by pressing the Power Button once.
Once you have verified that the device is not in hibernate mode, attempt to navigate the device by using the Hardware buttons.
If the display is still black/blank, Soft Reset the device by powering it off and removing the battery for 10 seconds and then reinsert and Power the device back on.
If the screen is still black/blank after the Soft Reset, you will need to perform a Hard Reset.
The hard reset will remove all of the customers’ data and settings and restore the device back to the state that it was in out of the box. Once the Hard Reset is done, the customers’ settings and data CANNOT be recovered. If possible, have the customer back up their data before proceeding with the Hard Reset.
Once the Hard Reset is complete, retest the device.
If the screen is still black/blank, the device will need to be replaced/repaired.
Screen has lines
Is the customer using a custom picture or image as their wallpaper?
Return the Wallpaper settings to one of the defaults on the device by going to Start>All Applications Arrow>Settings>Lock & Wallpaper>Change wallpaper
Is the issue seen when using the default wallpaper on the device?
If so, Soft Reset the device.
If not, advise the customer that the issue is with their custom wallpaper selection and recommend that they discontinue use of it.
Does the issue remain after completing the Soft Reset?
If so, rule out recent 3rd party applications that might have affected it, by removing them
Start>All Applications Arrow>Touch and Hold on an application to be removed and select Uninstall from the Pop-up menu.
Note: Not all applications can be uninstalled from the device.
Once all recent applications have been removed, power cycle the device and retest.
Is the issue seen after removing recent 3rd party applications and performing the Soft Reset?
If so, perform a Hard Reset.
The hard reset will remove all of the customers’ data and settings and restore the device back to the state that it was in out of the box. Once the Hard Reset is done, the customers’ settings and data CANNOT be recovered. If possible, have the customer back up their data before proceeding with the Hard Reset.
Once the Hard Reset and retest the device.
If the issue remains, the device will need to be replaced/repaired.
Unresponsive Touch Screen
Note: The device comes with a Capacitive Touch screen which will not respond to light touches from anything other than the flesh of the finger. Users trying to use their fingernails or any other object should be advised that they need to use the flesh of their fingers (firmly) to navigate the Touch Screen.
Verify that the issue is with the Touch Screen and not the device freezing by attempting to navigate the device using the hardware keys.
If you can navigate the device using the Hardware buttons, continue.
If you cannot navigate the device using the Hardware buttons, this issue needs to be worked using the troubleshooting flow for Device Freeze.
Check the device for a static cling screen protector, if present, remove and retest.
If the issue remains, Soft Reset the device.
Check the device for a carrying case with a magnetic closure; some magnets can interfere with the Touch Screen responsiveness.
If using one of these cases, have the user remove the device from the case and retest.
Ensure that the Charger/Data Cable is the one intended for the device by HTC.
Use of non OEM chargers/data cables can cause your screen to become unresponsive (due to the power being allocated to charging the task, and not the screen).
HTC can only guarantee items such as chargers that have been made, made for and certified by HTC. Our chargers have been tested and passed strenuous quality and safety regulations, and it is recommended you only use HTC chargers with your phone. You must be very careful when using electrical appliances; using products that have not been tested properly or that have not been tested at all could cause your phone to malfunction, or even in extreme cases, could injure you.
If the issue is not resolved by the previous steps, move forward with the Hard Reset.
The hard reset will remove all of the customers’ data and settings and restore the device back to the state that it was in out of the box. Once the Hard Reset is done, the customers’ settings and data CANNOT be recovered. If possible, have the customer back up their data before proceeding with the Hard Reset.
Once the Hard Reset and Customization process have completed, retest the device.
If the issue remains, the device will need to be replaced/repaired.
Hope someone can give us a better answer, but this is the best at the moment
UPDATE:
People if you want to fix your Phone just put this on the serch engine of XDA Developers "To solve the problem "Screen unresponsive" or "Frozen screen" by yourself", without the brackets.

Hi JesusOdin
I have the same issue but my question is
And all is right now?
I you have luck please tell me
Thank You
I've had similar issue with the lock screen at times. The problem is more persistant when the phone is in the pants pocket during hot weather or I am under heavy exersion. I think it may be related to the humidity. I have refrained from storing the phone in this pocket and rarely have any issue.
The phone is not weather resistant, an Otterbox might help but would be rather bulky.
was there ever a solution to this lock screen problem?
i heard it was something to do with the drivers...changing from v69 (at&t) to v63(t-mobile)
anyone know how to do this?
Well...
Tried to replace the digitizer and ended up cuting the ribbon cable of the display. I bought the screen and digitizer. Replacing the parts on this cel is not for the weak of heart.
The cel did work without problems afterwards.
I have a surround and lately its misbehaving.
The screen goes off within a second or two if I do not continue touching it. Sometimes it doesn't even stay for a second and goes off immediately. When the screen goes off, I notice the red battery light blinking. Sometimes its just in a reboot boot loop. If i am successful and able to reach videos and start a video, then the video plays fine.
Until the video is playing, the screen doesn't go off. I have tried a hard reset but it didn't help. I am on mango.
What might be the problem?

[Q] HTC HD2 Secret Codes & Reset Method Needed

Tried to use the search function, but got nothing, so make a new thread.
1. need to check my phone's sim lock status. I don't have a sim from other carriers in hand. Thinking maybe there are some 'Secret Codes' like (*#06#, *#*#4636#*#*), to check my phone's sim lock status.
2. Is there any way to reset the phone without opening the back cover? I know we can reset the phone by removing the battery or pushing the reset button...
But....... I am using a TPU phone case, if i need to open the back metal cover, I will need to take off the TPU cover first. As you konw, that TPU thing is really too fit too tight to be removed (using my phone a lot to play games, it dies occasionally)
Thanks!

can't suggest anything for question 1, maybe someone else will come along and provide some answers.
regarding question 2, the following works sometimes on the android build i am using currently (XxXPachaXxX's GBLeo Sense, details in signature):
1. when you feel like rebooting, hold down both volume buttons
2. keep holding down both the volume buttons
3. tap the power button and keep holding the volume buttons
4. this key combination is used for a hard-reset i believe. so in case the phone reboots into the hard-reset screen, just cancel out of it and let the phone reboot normally!
i currently have another HD2 (a friend's) that has WM6.5 on it (some version of NRGZ's Energy ROM Series). i just tried the above process on it 3-4 times but it did NOT work.
it might not work on other android builds either. but i know for a FACT that it works on the one i have currently...i do it almost every day! the ROM suffers from a problem in which the screen refuses to wake up (but the device keeps running because it rings, you can't see who is calling, and you can answer it, and have a full conversation!). this happens randomly about once every 1-2 days. and the above mentioned trick works every single time for me when my device is in that particular state.
so to summarize, the trick doesn't seem to work on WM6.5. it might work in some/all android builds. it might only work on android when the device is in some kind of "stuck" state.
Your reset method works. Thanks! I don't have to take off the TPU case just for a simple reset now.
The combination will lead to the hard reset screen as you described, and can be cancel by simply pressing the 'back' key.
Running the HyperDroid android rom, have no chance to test wm6.5 yet. But now it works. Thanks!!

One most probable cause is smudges/sweat.
Wipe your screen clean & dry the let see if the problem occurs.
Another probability is damaged Home Button.
Looks like home button issue. Make sure its not partially jammed in somehow. Could be an issue under the home button inside the case....

i have done factory reset, wipe cache, screen cleaning..
The above posts are probably right suggesting a broken Home Button. You can try to disable the physical home button and install an on-screen navigation bar.
i took it to the technical service. lets see what is the result and i will write down the info here.
Solution : I took the device from service. They changed the charge socket, home button and i have got my device back, no problem.
So as a result it's hardware problem.
Thanks for helps
Glad it got fixed pretty quickly for you
