So I was running event0 on my grouper when I tried to move it and it fell off of my desk. The screen cracked and now half of the touchscreen is wonked. I own 3 other tablets and a screen replacement is about 50$ AUD and would take a couple weeks to get here. The only reason I haven't sold this device is so I can finish a project I am doing with it, and the lack of touch screen doesn't quite hinder the project (yet). Should I just shell out 50$ for a screen (Not much for me), or should I wait until I absolutely need one?
There are two on Swappa now ($40 & $60). Might make more sense to just replace instead of repair?
Or in the meanwhile, use a usb-otg cable with a keyboard and mouse. Than when you need it, replace the screen or device.

yes, my athena x7500 is finally for sale. it just collects dust now so its time to let it go and get myself a touch HD. so if anyone is going from athena to it expect me to cook some roms for it. its in about 8,8.5/10 condition. i bought it used and babied it so almost everything is from the previous owner. the rubber i guess from sitting or just from time on the joystick came off and the camera button also came off. both can easily be replaced for a few dollars. camera can still be used by taking the stylus and sticking it into the hole of the camera button. its just the actual button that came off. screen is mint since it has a screen protector from day 1. have original box, keyboard, cables, the 4 in cable, 2 cases, and a small usb keyboard that u can also get if you like. looking for 600 plus shipping. it has the latest incarntion of my ap rom that never got released. i remember the rom was almost stable but some bugs and lack of time made me stop development.
its going to be sad to see her go but its for the better.
Still for sale?

I suspect shipping would be faster and cheaper if I bought yours. Thanks.

I broke my 5th Touch, it's the lcd this time. This time I don't have the insurance. It maybe time to move on since Android 2.2 on the Touch is just a little too slow for me. I see Eris's occasionally pop up for <$200 but the it appears to be not much faster then an over clocked Touch. Samsung Moments pop up for the same price but I don't think I want keyboard anymore. They do have a 800 mhz processor and a nice screen. For the most part the Moment isn't that stellar of device but I am curious about how the hacked roms run on it. Any input on these two phones would be appreciated.
If I decide to keep the Touch, I saw I can pick up a LCD on ebay for $44 (includes shipping from HK). Anyone one know of better deal? More importantly, is there a better LCD that can be installed on the Touch?
Just an FYI, I did end up buying a new LCD. It was $27.65 and the seller was in Westminster, Ca (LA area). So it was over night shipping, sure beats waiting for stuff from China. First link is the LCD and Second link is his Ebay store. Display looks and works fine. Very easy repair.

This past weekend I had to go through horrifying experience having to deal my nexus 7's screen cracking. Long story short, my girlfriend, younger brother and I were hanging out in my room, I had left my nexus 7 on the left side of my bed and got up to get something in my room, mean while, my obvious younger brother decided it would be a good idea to sit exactly where I had left my nexus 7...if only he had stayed in the chair that was in my room. Well, my nexus 7 happened to be facing front side up and when he sat on my beautiful tablet, the screen cracked... the 50 dollars Gumdrop Drop Tech Series Case I had invested in proved to be no match to his rear end.
I sat there quite silent for a couple minutes, no words to say, it was just as time itself had paused to morn for my loss. Well anyhow, I ordered a brand spanking new 32GB nexus 7 last night and I'm expecting it to arrive tomorrow . I was fiddling around with my nexus 7 and I managed to enable "show touches" in the developer options by attaching a mouse to my device. I noticed that top left corner of the screen gave touch feed back.
My question is why the small portion of the touch screen responds to touch when the majority of the screen doesn't, this anomaly (from reading various forum posts, the nexus 7 screen isn't suppose to respond to touch once the screen is cracked) leaves me pondering if there was something I could do to make the other portion of the screen to work. I was originally looking into screen replacement options, but from what I read and saw first hand, it's better to buy a whole new unit (like I had mentioned I had done in the earlier text) than to purchase a brand new digitizer. The other option would be to find a bricked nexus 7 on the internet and salvage the screen, and trying to find a low priced bricked nexus 7 on the internet is like trying to find a needle in a hay stack.
Now, I'm a college student (majoring in Computer Networking System Administrations ) and blew 3/4 of my savings for a new unit (I'm poor!). If there is no financially feasible method for replacing the screen enabling being able sell the device for higher price, how much do you folks think I could sell it for? Keep in mind, my cracked nexus 7 is 16GB model and is unlocked (rooted) and is in pretty the good shape despite the cracked screen, the actual display has not been damaged, it's just touch digitizer that is not working properly.
Thanks for reading my lengthy post/ramble
So I take it your brother who broke it won't be compensating you for breaking your tablet? I would be pissed, he should at least pay for some of the cost of the replacement.

Well he's actually going compensate me with 50 bucks so that's nice.
Hi, I have exactly the same problem and had the same idea. If i can calibrate the digitizer to exactly 50% of the original dimensions I could use the working area of the screen to operate the device. Did you find a way to do this?

no offence intended but anyone who breaks my tablet, family or not would be compensating me 100% plus a srry beer thrown in.
So long story short, my friend dropped my phone and cracked the screen and made it so that it won't respond to touch inputs. I have been controlling it with adb and MyMobiler for a couple days now. Thankfully he is paying for a new one since Google won't accept it since it's screen was cracked, and if I send it off to LG....
In a day or two, I'll have two Nexus 4's. Just wondering what I can do with the broken one. Any projects or DIY you guys might have in mind.
Buy a slim port and use a Bluetooth mouse/keyboard and turn it into the ultimate mini PC. A bit like the rk3066 devices.
Install fedora too...
Or sell the board for good money... Etc etc

hmmmm how about if you buy an hdmi adapter and connect it to your tv. then you place there your movies and stuff and it works like a video station for tv
or you can simply try to sell it cheap on ebay or something like that and give the money to your friend so that he spends less
if your friend is paying for a new one , i guess he should take the cracked one. (maybe try and fix it then resell).
If you're keeping the new one too then fix it through LG and sell it

Or..Sell it to your brother
Alright, Ill probably fix it myself, looks easy enough. (Would have given it to him to fix but he's not so great technology) And then either give it to my friend or give him the money. Though I do want to make sure before I order the parts, can there be anything else that would cause the phone not to respond to touch after the glass is shattered. All I could think of was the digitizer being messed up. Most of the cracking was done on the lower half, specifically lower left. Im sure its not going to help much, but I put up the pic so you guys can get an idea of how much was cracked.
Just like rwgast wrote in the Hardware thread on Building ARM PC from old qualcom boards:
Sometimes good ideas come from bad situations.
I had a PMID701i which came to a crashing demise recently.
Dropped onto a ceramic tile floor, the touchscreen cracked a hundred ways from Sunday and is
now totally unresponsive. So I've got a project-tab now.
The PMID701i supports usb hosting, and I've got a usb2go key that I made so I can plug mouse/keyboard into it.
If I could get some kind of decent screen replacement I could have a nice little experiment box to toy with.
Looking for your stories of success / failure...
Is it worth it to try and replace the lcd screen? Any hints on where I can get such a replacement part?
Did anyone have good luck hooking up a tab (of any kind) to another display?
What about hooking the board into another type of display, like an lcd screen or something?
I was out to the local compu-franchises today and they just don't sell/replace tab screens at all.
If anybody knows some good hardware/parts websites, I'd appreciate a note or reply.
btw, I know it's a cheap tab that's why I got one. It's good for learning with. Now I'm waiting for a Tegra4 device.
