I recently wrote a question on the Z2 Plus' XDA forum about what ROM could possibly fit my needs: Scrolling Smoothness, Great battery life, Great Performance without overheating. I got like 1 or 2 answers I think. So I went on my own to research the best ROM I could possibly use as my Daily Driver. PureFusion had probably the second best performance in my eyes just behind ViperOS, but both of these ROMs were inconsistent and lacked battery efficiency. AEX had multiple bugs and crashes after using it for some time. PixelExperience is still in developpement so I won't give any pejorative remarks (BTW, its liquid smooth) After a good Sunday of searching, I finally came across the best ROM I have ever used. Enter Citrus CAF. If you know this ROM and have tested, you van leave by now as you probably know how great it is! Crazy fast AND consistent performance. Something I dreamed of for a long time. The sound seems to be better too. There is some level of customization although I dont really tweak my device. Overheating has not been a problem at all since installing this ROM although the majority of the ROMs for the ZUK Z2 Plus seem to do a great job at that level. Finally, the battery life. Oh the battery life! I thought it was going to be a pretty poor battery life since the ROM itself didn't get much updates. SOT bas gone through the roof. 9H(Yes 9H!) and still counting at 8% of SOT on moderate usage. 7h45 SOT on intense usage(Asphalt 8, a LOT of YouTube, a 45 minute call and some other stuff like Facebook, Twitter etc..) It has been a tremendous experience for me and I strongly hope that the battery life is gonna stay like that for a long time. Btw im 15 and im french si im sorry if you feel like i misspelled a word or something.
Link for the ROM : https://sourceforge.net/projects/citrus-caf/files/z2_plus/

It was indeed the best ROM so far on my Z2 Plus.

Yes the score on Antutu is at about 140 000 which is respectable. The gaming department is near perfect. No heating, and tremendous smoothness. Btw, i was at 70% at around 10 am. Right now, I'm at 64% at 15:47 after moderate use. The battery life is exceptionnaly good.
Alright! Flashing for the 10th time this week lol

Yes! I always seem to be a flashaholic during the holidays. These holidays though, I managed to retain myself and only flash 2 ROMs including Citrus CAF. I know that HDR+ is truly fantastic(tried it on the PixelExperience ROM) but I dont really take much photos son it is not a real deal breaker for me.

I'm now on Cardinal 5.3 (Oreo).
Very clean, fast and stable.
All Oreo ROMs in general are not perfect yet.
Battery life is not as good as on Citrus 3.1 + DarkMoon Kernel.
I didn't try 3.5 or 3.6 since I didn't feel like it would give me much improvement.
In fact I got scared off of trying because of the negative reports by others in the thread.

Sorry for my REALLY late answer. As of March 17th, I am rocking the Pixel Experience ROM. Ive been using this ROM for about 2 months and it's really fluid, fast, and lag free. I felt like Citrus was getting less efficient on the battery side of things. The performance was still very good but I just like I needed to change and go over the Android 8 hump. If you want a reliable ROM that is well protected, blazingly fast, I would recommend Jaguar even though I did not ever try that ROM. Other than that, Pixel Experience is my choice

Hey guys when I got Nexus S it's official software update was at 4.1.1 so it didn't make sence to tri GB or ICS roms, it felt like a downgrade, everyone wants the latest stftware, right? But I recently got to thinking that when Galaxy Nexus came out with the first ICS people who had a Nexus S didn't really hurry to upgrade case they knew that they would be getting ICS asswell, but now with 4.2 not being supported ofitially it makes since to change the phone. My point is that eaven if GB and ICS are older the develpoment was more alive, so what are your thoughts? Should I try Gb or ICS? Whats the best experience you had in terms of music, video battery life gameplay (eaven if I never play games on a phone) regardless of the software wersion. I should mention that I'm a flashaholic so it doesent matter what rom I use case I get bored with it pretty fast, I'm always eger to flash something on my phone.
ICS is laggy. GB looks and feels outdated. Jelly bean is your best bet for a complete user experience.
1. Install carbon unofficial rom: http://goo.im/devs/Gingo21/Carbon/Crespo/CARBON-JB-EXP-17AVRIL2013-161548-crespo.zip
2. Install voodoo sound app and configure.
3. Enjoy a lag-free overall user experience (limited to most games) and great battery life (although i experienced the longest battery life on slim 4.2.1 v1.1, but not as fast as carbon)
4. Don't expect your NS to be as fast as a quad core device. But it can be on par with a dual core device in terms of UI and gaming experience.

Yes I know a custom rom isn't going to do wonders, I was just curious about older roms that I didnt try, I'm actually on Carbon, the last nightly, but the unofficial seames to be better than all the nightly's put together, thank you
ICS is generally the most battery friendly (can last days), but laggy.
Difficult to answer
I've been using Carbon ROM with Marmite kernel 8.5(bigmem), the experience has been quite good, much better than these low end devices i have at home. UI is buttery smooth and fluid. Temple Run 2 is a bit slow-ish but i dont mind. Now the main factor, battery! yes its not that great, GB was the best i hear. I think my battery is faulty too, might go for a 2450 mAh battery.

If you have too many apps, 4.2 will be very laggy and have a pour battery life.
But i dont know how! Gamerz ROM still feeling like im on 4.1! Its fast and the performance is the best for a 4.2!
I have tryed all of those ROM in development thread. This is my favorite .
ICS is good two. Is a little slow than 4.1. But i liked it.
Just try some ROMs for a day or two. You will be pleasured ;/

yup will do, I'm on the flash everything chapter now

amazing sys
Jellybean is great but using it on the Nexus S is a really bad measuring stick to gauge Jellybean.. If you use the last official 4.1.1 build the Nexus S runs fair if you keep it as a minimalistic smartphone. (defaultish). Still.. It's more than obvious there is some severe limiting of performance due the single core CPU and severely limited amount of RAM.. 4.2.. Eh.. Too much.. I tried keeping my Nexus S active as just an MP3 player but PowerAmp randomly hitches during playback.. I put the phone to bed...
I have to say that generally speaking JB 4.2 is the best system that our Nexus S can run and the best user experience. We all know different usages means different results in battery life, lags, amount if free ram but in any case I feel confident in saying that once you have flashed a 4.2 rom there's no reason to go back to ICS or even to GB. It feels like an overall better experience and performance. Still, I wish the OS were a little more light on the small stock battery but hey, it's a decent tradeoff. Most of the time I'm on 2G data only because that's ok for my kind of usage (mostly emails and twitter) and with that the battery is quite decent.
The only issue that I have seen with the 4.2 roms I have tried is that after a few days (4 or 5) the cached apps are not recalled very quicly when launched. I usually reboot once a week and the problem is gone but in any case I don't feel dissatisfied at all.
I love jelly bean works great

I posted the link in comment no 4 .. And for me no lags at all camera is good and you can install moto or htc's camera to get very good quality
+1
Just installed the ROM and it's the fastest and lag-free AOSP rom I've found.
+1 for PA. I have gone through almost every ROM available for my D851 and either had lag or heat issues. Holy crap this one is smooth. I'm running it now with Nebula kernel with the bioshock governor and heat issues are gone. It had been hitting 70C just charging and using Chrome, now it stays below 60, and right now is hovering at 55C. I miss a couple of features, but it is too slick to change.
Exodus is the best aosp rom for me
and the camera quality?
Well I'm on stock Rom with Gabriel kernel on Smartmax governer and Alucard hotplug ... And the phone is very good in battery and performance ... It reaches 49 °C when idle or screen off & 55-60 °C when charging and used for some time .... It hits 70°C on heavy usage ... And performance outs really good ... Very minimal lags some times but with animations adjusted to 0.5 in developer options out seems blazingly fast ...

Hi everyone,
Now that N is underway you might be wondering whether or not you should switch from M and I'm here to help you with that. Do keep in mind that I recommend everyone try everything for themselves. I'm just leaving my thoughts here to aid the undecided.
Should I drop CM 13 for 14?
Yes! Please do. Unless you use CMTE, I see no reason to not switch to CM 14. It's maturing at a really fast rate and is ready to be used as a daily driver in my experience. It's great for the majority of you. I recommend giving F-AOSP a shot too while you're at it considering the amount of time that went into getting it to work, and the simplicity of AOSP.
What if I'm using Sultans build/Sultanized RR?
I would stay honestly. His kernel is awesome, he's quick to fix things, and delivers a ROM in an entirely different league. Besides AOSPA and Citrus, it is the only ROM for the OnePlus X that is truly complete CAF right now, and it's great.
What if I don't like CM/AOSP?
We'll firstly, your a moron as every ROM ever uses them as a base. Secondly, stick to M if you need features. Most ROMs are going to be similar at this point if they're N based. Give them time to adopt features.
What if I work for the government?
And you bought an Onyx? Your an idiot. GTFO. Restore to stock lol. But seriously, a bug is expected here and there....
My recommendation
I switch ROMs incredibly frequently. I flash what I feel like. You have to try everything in order to find out for yourself however I can say without a doubt that...p
The winner, for me, is Cardinal AOSP
EVERYTHING is done subtly and really well. It's based on AOSP OMS and adds a lot of stuff that is cleverly put into place. It doesn't feel cluttered and it runs amazingly. Stick to the M builds for now as they are a proper representation of what @rohitporoli and Adarsh can accomplish. It's the pinnacle of what's been done, and I can't say that for most ROMs here. Citrus is their CAF counterpart with CMTE and it's great as well.
Honorable mentions
Zephyr by Sarthak Narang
Tesla/Tipsy/Validus by Martin Coulon
Exodus by RajaM
Dirty Unicorns by Rohit and Vatsal maintains his own with Tipsy trees instead of CM ones
PS
Use whatever build of CM 14 you feel like using. I used Sarthaks for testing personally, and it's held up well. Fabio did an excellent job on F-AOSP too, and Cardinal will take a while to be ready for prime time, but they'll get there!
Thanks for reading everyone, and as usual, enjoy!
I got bored, okay?
As funny as this may seem, I actually get the best performance (with less stutters, not gaming performance) with oxygen marshmallow (with a few kernel tweaks). I don't know if it's because it's odexed, but everything is very fast. Apps open quite faster than any custom rom (from what I read around, that is actually one of the advantages of being odexed). I tried cm14 and and aosp and initially everything seems great, but after a bit I start to get stutters. I really hate lags and stutters and probably are aware of minor stutters that don't bother 99% of Android users, I'm very picky. But honestly oxygen (and h2os) were the best roms for me. I think I tried nearly every rom there is for our device lol. Everyone on XDA is obsessed about battery life and I'm the opposite, I care mostly for a lagfree(and stutter free) experience, I don't care for a laggy phone with 10 hours SOT

https://www.google.de/amp/s/forum.x...t/rom-citrus-caf-3-1tangrine7-1-t3572769/amp/
and finally RR 5.8.2 (you have it already but the last updated one)
I tried every rom in this forum.. seriously.. and now i am on RR 5.8.2. Not 5.8.3 because it is still buggy!! All of them gave me minimum 5.5 h SOT
RR 5.8.2 is the best rom till now i have tried.. very very stable, full substratum support, very good battery life (SOT 5.5- 6) as it has equipped with RA kernel.. and finally you have every avalible Android feature on this planet inside it.
Hopefully i was useful, i had your question once upon a time
If you just want battery life.. go for Nuclear rom 6. no rom will give you like it.
Cheers

I tried more than you, if you don't care about features, only you want super fast and smooth rom, then you try either Hexagon rom based on ( lineage)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zuk-z1/development/rom-hexagonrom-nougat-zuk-z1-t3581479
Or Aicp rom ( linage with full feature)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zuk-z1/orig-development/rom-aicp-12-1-n7-1-1-radioactive-t3560928
Or candy rom based on (AOSP-CAF)
https://forum.xda-developers.com/zuk-z1/orig-development/rom-candy-rom-beta-v4-0-zuk-z1-t3612960
Or Aosp-Extended rom based on (AOSP)

The smoothest and most stable rom i have ever tried.
I have modifed animation scale to zero, flashed dolby atom 6, i really have a monster now.
I am getting 15% battery reducing per h on wifi with 1h SOT while network and gps are on and the display at 50%
I am finishing over 20 h with over 5.5 SOT including over 2h web browser, 1h calling, and the rest are mixed consuming.
Dont forget that my battery is really old now, 5.5 would be 6.5 at least with new battery.

Is there any network issue in the ROM or is it perfect ? i have faced network issue on all LOS based ROM's..
No at all!! If you have then i advice you with AOSP-CAF rom like DU 6 or 7 or candy rom nogut i mentioned above, it is the fastest rom i have tried , i did not like it because i had problems only with 60 fps video shoot, other than this, it is very stable, insanely fast, very good battery life, and i am pretty sure will be the best for the hardware compatibility, this means if you flash it and still have problems then think about a hardware defect!

Bro's just try cr droid v3.4 , don't know about latest 3.6, haven't tried it yet, on stock settings 6+ hrs. Sot, even more customisation than rr, still more smooth than nuclear or lineage.
This sot with ambient display on, so all sensors using all time.
For me, i changed kernel settings to multicore-> aggresive and max cpu to 1.2 ghz.....7+ hrs sot regular , full time lte on , no wifi.
:good:

Thank you so much guys for being able to flash soooo many custom roms on our dear land , i totally love this device and it has all the features and necessary requirements to be a primary phone, be it performance, battery life(exceptional) , a decent camera and an overall package, it was a total bang for the buck at 150 dollars ...Its only because of all devs (no partiality) that even today this device is having tons of awesome custom roms with good support..
But sadly i am leaving you guys and this device too, as i today i have bought a 2 months used lenovo zuk z2 at about rs. 7000 (roughly 110 dollars) and will be shifting my primary device to that. But i siill love this device so much! It's hard to leave it , so i am giving it to my mom and guess what with an awesome custom rom installed (viperos 7.1.2 by impulsar)
In the end it has been an amazing 1.5 years using this device and it can still last for years to come with support of all devs until the hardware dies. Keep up the good work brothers! Cheers!

Where did you get that beast for 7k?? On Amazon, it's 9.7k! I was surprised to see the flagship 820 series on a below 10k mobile! How did it fail to get attention? I mean I had never heard of it before! This never got that media attention for such tremendous value for money! ?

Bro actually i have bought zuk z2 from OLX for 7k, it's only 2 months old, isn't that a freaking awesome deal? Btw yeah, this phone is a beast, already unlocked the bootloader and enjoying validus 8.1.0 custom rom with front and back portrait mode working ,
It didn't got much attention cause of it's poor ZUi which is horrible and full of major bugs, also camera was average, and their are heating issues with stock rom, little do normal users know the worth of a custom rom on a sd820 it's awesome really,150K on antutu

Yeah! Now that's whom we call a shrewd whelp. ?I have never got my hands on an Android with the 800 series chipset! I wonder how fast the custom ROMs would run with that! It must be as fast as light. BTW, congrats. Enjoy the speed. :good:
A suggestion. Install the latest build of Nitrogen OS 8.1.0 on your mom's land. I am getting insane 16 hrs+ SOT on that ROM with moderate usage. And as you know, Oreo is simply Light-years-ahead of any previous version of Android. After installing it, the performance and battery life would be faster than ever before. And your mom will be happy(-ier). She would be charging her Android less frequently! Just do it.
*After flashing Oreo ROM on land, follow my thread on battery tips under Discussion section of land.

I have done all of that before achieving that SOT. You may tweak your z2's settings with the tips as well. And yes, don't root your mom's phone. Chances are that any spamming website would trick her into installing malware!! ? That's why all my battery tips are non-root. Cheers! If you want AdGuard, PM me.

Yeah bro thanks a lot! Impulsar's viperos 7.1.2 passes Google's safetynet out of the box, so need of magisk root, banking apps run fine But i need google camera portrait mode working as she loves it ,, so have to stick with 7.1.2 until 8.1.0 supports gcam .. btw you're awesome bro, you've unleashed the true power of our land device with these tweaks
I am already getting 8hr+ SOT on my zuk z2 with your settings on validus 8.1.0, while others are managing just 5-6 hours SOT coz the rom is still unoptimized... it's awesome considering z2 has got a 3500 mah battery, a powerful SD820 and a 1080p screen.
