Disable Charging LED, Possible? - Huawei Ascend XT Questions & Answers

Things ive tried:
1.Ive tried Xposed Modules for disabling it on other Huawei phones it did not work.
2. In root directory went to sys/devices/gpio leds /red & green or something like that. I changed the values to 0 for both and it disables it temporarily until unplugged & back in. (Its a pain to do this everytime,)
3. Light manager & light flow. Neither work.
Madvane anybody help plz. I use my device in the dark often.

Also the Red charging LED is considerably more bright thsn the green LED. Making it a real pain using when charging. Its brighter than the screen.

Have you tried Xposed GravityBox module?
It can disable charge LED on my Huawei Ascend Mate 2 which is running LineageOS/Nougat, so maybe worth a try to see if it works on the XT .

Just tried Gravity box. None of its features work AFAIK. I tried different features no avail. im stock B180 from madvane then i flashed magisk myself. Oh well.

This issue has come up before, but never resolved for XT as far as I can recall.

Well that sux. Im minda getting annoyed with tinkering and ****ing with this thing. Its good tho. Just want LineageOS at this point

Pigs might fly before you see a custom ROM for the XT since Huawei won't release source code for the phone other than the bare minimum requirement by Google for Huaweis usage of Android.
Maybe cover the LED with black tape or don't use it at night when charging the phone .

No i know another way of disabling it temporarily. Until i unplug and plug back in. So i use that way.

If a config file edit works, just spitballing here... perhaps using tasker, automagic (my personal fav), macrodroid, or another similar app to edit the file upon being plugged in would work. There's several file manipulation plugins for tasker (which also work on automagic, macrodroid, locale, and others), and if all else fails you can use command line.
It's a little more involved, but I can't imagine any reason it wouldn't work. .

[Solved]Sensor on KF?

In the top left corner of my KF there seems to be a sensor. Anyone know what it is for? It doesn't seem to do anything when I cover it.
It is a light sensor that could be used to automatically adjust the screen backlight for example.
Yea but it doesn't seem to do that. I cover it and the screen brightness doesn't change. Is there a setting I am missing?
interesting - i think to remember there was a setting in settings->display called "auto brightness" in stock 6.2 and it was not activated by default - not shure but i think so
this setting seems to be gone in 6.2.1
found that:

See same post I listed above. It says that they haven't got the light sensor working in ICS either.
It worked originally in the Kindle Fire 6.0 release but was removed in the 6.1 update and has not been re-enabled in any version ROM that I know of.
Those that had the KF with 6.0 said it didn't work well which is why the most likely disabled it.
The Amazon "Basics" case covers up the sensor with the elastic straps. Maybe that's why they disabled it...
Thanks everyone, that explains it!

Doubtful. One the KF doesn't come with a case and many cases have the hole for it. Mine does. More likely, there is a hardware issue.
I also note that many phones which have the same thing work better by turning the auto off. Using auto uses more battery on my Dinc, so I just turn it off.
They removed it because it was like watching a bad monitor with a low flicking refresh rate.... it was sampling like 3-5 times a second and adjusting. I thought I was going to have a seizure until it updated

[Q] Problem with LED light (iconia a501)

Hello,
I just bought a501 about 3 weeks ago. It's my first ever android based gadget. As a new user, i really like to download and try so many free apps (some of them i don't need).
Two days ago i found out that the LED light randomly blinking. After that, i uninstall apps that use LED light. I tought the problem is from the apps. But until now, i still have the problem.
Does anyone know how to resolve it? Thanks
ps.: i don't root

WHAT???? NO ROOT????
Ok, as far as I know, there are only 2 lights on the 501. The flash on the back, and the PWR button. So the question, which one is it?
If it's the PWR button, it has 2 colors. Orange and white.Usually if it's orange, it means the tab is charging. White means the display is on for a brief time, or it's fully charged. What color is it flashing?
If it wasn't doing it before, it's quite possible some notification app caused it. Maybe some Wifi or GPS app, or sms app. Not really sure, as I haven't noticed it. Also, if the light occassionally comes on, I usually pay it no attention.
What i mean with LED light is the flashlight for camer, not the light on power button.
Since i wrote in this forum, dunno how, the problem is gone...
But i'm still curious, what made the light flashing randomly. Even after i uninstalled apps which use LED light...

Probably some leftover code from some apps. Maybe cached. Really hard to tell. But the problem is over now, so no worries.
Personally, I try and avoid things that interface with the hardware. USB apps, SD card enhancers, and especially kernels (unless you know what you're doing). Typically these things leave residual lib files and scripts behind, which can interfere with other installed apps, and can cause unexpected results, usually none of which are good .
Example; you install a kernel, which uses some specific scripts run from init.d (same goes for some custom roms) folder. And the kernel doesn't live up to your expectations. So you flash a different kernel. Well the new one, doesn't use those specific scripts, but yet, they are still being called upon and still in the folder, and never deleted. Then things act funky.
At the first sign of bad behavior, uninstall the most recently installed app. Then work backwards. Or if you are rooted, and have CWM or RA Recovery installed, make a system or nand back-up of a good working system. Then when things go south, as they sometimes will, you can restore that image.

Notification light

Hi Nexus 10 owners,
Love my Nexus 10 but I have an issue with the notification light under the screen.
It was working fine when I first got it on Friday, with it dimming on and off when an email is received.
But since yesterday, it hasn't light up at all, for any notifications, and I do have the "Pulse Notification Light" checked in setting.
So I was wondering if anyone else have any problems with the notification light? Could it be a bug, or perhaps my light broke after the first day?
Thanks in advance for any response.
I might suggest trying https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.coolbeans.ledtester&hl=en to see if your light still works

Just tried the app and there's no light.
However, could it be that this app doesn't work on the Nexus 10 yet?

Yea it might be possible that app doesn't work; may want to see what an actual N10 owner has to report though
Works fine on my N10, only flashes white though, regardless what colour I pick.

So I guess it's really just my N10 then.
Thanks though.
No problem, try reflash with stock images and you might get lucky. My Nexus 10 is buggy as sh** and I put it down to 4.2. It'll all get sorted out soon enough, hopefully yours is just a bug too. Hope you solve it.

UPDATE
Just reset my N10 and now the notification light works again.:victory:
Guess it must have been one of the app interfering with the light.
BTW, when I tested it with a LED tester app, it can actually show green, red, blue and purple lights.:good:

If I understand right, he just flashed a factory 4.2 image from Google, without any OTA updates.
You can get the factory software from the Google developer site and you can download it to your nexus device in case anything gets messed up.
By "put it down to", I mean I blame 4.2 (Android version on the Nexus 10) for all the bugs I'm having. It's a new OS, and this multiuser stuff amongst others means some pretty major changes so I expect it to be a little unstable for a while. Still a better state than honeycomb was when I bought my XOOM on launch day, boy was that a mess.
You're right about the lights, I just got it to work with all the different colours, cyan and then purple look nice

UPDATE #2
The notification light is not working again
Reset my N10 again, then performed a LED light test each time I install a new app.
Until the last app installed, the notification light was working, then after a few minutes it stops working again.
So I guess it's not really caused by 3rd party apps.
So I ask again, has anyone had problem with their N10's notification light?
Still hoping that it's a bug instead of just me having a defective unit.
Thanks again!
I'm having the same issues. Sometimes the LED seems to be working, others it's not. I installed LED tester and again, sometimes it works fine and others not at all. I have tried to spot a pattern to see what causes it to stop and start and have drawn a blank - no idea. I have since installed light flow but this has not helped. Seems to me that there is either a software bug and we haven't yet figured what the trigger is, or there is a dodgy hardware batch (I hope it's the former!)

I think I've found the trigger. If I turn the device completely off, and turn it back on with the charger plugged in, notifications work. If I turn it back on with the charger unplugged, notifications do not work.
Other things I have tried which made no difference included factory reset and factory reflash.
Can some other folks see if their behavior matches mine? I have a replacement device being shipped to me, but if this is a software problem I'd rather not swap hardware. I'm very curious to hear if there are any devices that have a working LED under both boot up scenarios.
I think you are right. LED notifications were working ok when I had a freeze in google now. I restarted (on battery) and tested the notifications - no LED. I plugged in the charger, restarted the system and retested - LED working again. Looks like we have a workaround and a confirmed software bug rather than a hardware fault.
I'll test when I get home, but, I've only ever noticed the light when my tablet is plugged in, so it could be the same for me too. Shouldn't be a major problem, will get fixed in the next update as long as Google are aware.

Just tried this but still nothing.
Called Google today and they are sending me a replacement.
Ok, this is ridiculous.
Just unplugged my N10 and now the notification light is working.
So apparently it's working randomly.
Hopefully my replacement device works 100% of the time.
BTW, are replacement devices new, or refurbished?

Enable Moto X Charging LED (without Tasker)

Well there was a thread that was going, but the OP decided to post warez links and it got closed. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2601850
I made an app with Tasker App Factory that does what the original post explains in a video (http://m.androidauthority.com/moto-x-green-notification-331710/), for those that don't have/want Tasker.
This is the first time I've shared anything that I've made in Tasker, and I can't say why it has some of the permissions it does, honestly. If anyone cna elaborate on why it does has those default permissions, that'd be great.
DISCLAIMER: As I stated above, this is my first app. I tested it on my Verizon Moto Maker edition Moto X that is rooted on 4.4. I take no responsibility for what happens to your phone or anything you do with this app. It worked fine for me, but I make no promises it will work for you.
Latest Version: https://copy.com/uUWpwXnGdJXpPIC
- Latest one adds in a few more options for how the light is displayed, and a brightness setting.
Original Version: https://copy.com/9w9TlRH2yt3L3BC
Install, run, and accept the root request (root is needed for the shell command, just as it is in the Tasker profile). It will also run the command when you boot, and starts working a few seconds after the phone turns on.
Note: If you decide you don't like it and uninstall the app, you will probably need to reboot after uninstalling to disable the LED.
Hopefully someone finds this useful. I personally don't care for it, but I like making stuff in Tasker and thought I'd give it a shot.
I just installed this. It works very well, thank you.
Installed and works. But isnt it supposed to switch off the light once the phone is charged?

It is set to display the LED when it is charging or full. When I get a few minutes I can update with other options.
I updated OP with a new link, newer version with more options.
very cool! Thanks!!!! Seems to be working just fine.
If you plan to add anything, a slow fade on and off would be a nice addition as well!

I don't know of a way to change the behavior of the LED other than what's there. It can only do things defined by the system software at this point. If anything else becomes available, I'll see about updating it.

I don't think I would bother with this for normal use however if someone stuffs a wireless charging coil inside the phone then I think it becomes very useful.
Still waiting for my coil to arrive before I crack into a phone.

Yeah I'm still undecided. I like it with the brightness nearly all the way down, like below 10. It's subtle but I can still find my phone in the dark when next to my bed (the active display shuts off from 12am-7am).
With the new update its useful to know that your battery is fully charged once the led has shut off. There is no other way to know with this phone unless you turn the screen on

Also true. Someone posted that one of the options was to blink while charging and stay solid when it gets full, but it doesn't seem to work properly. It just blinks until it's full and then shuts off, from what I read. If they find a way to fix it I'll add it in.

OK Google while AOD (Screen off)

Hi there,
Is there a workaround or a root function to enable Always On listening for 'OK Google' while the screen is off/AOD?
It is really bugging me but I cannot see a workaround already posted.
Thanks!

It works for you because you are using a Note 8 ported ROM. Because Samsung enabled this feature on the Note 8. It will not currently work on the stock S8 ROM. Some people seem to be in a server side test to enable this feature though.

It's best to think of the always-on display as "Screen Off", which is why OK Google doesn't work on stock ROM. That's standard Android procedure to avoid draining the battery by always listening for voice commands.
At one point, Google Assistant was able to listen when the screen was off, so long as the phone was being charged. Unfortunately, that feature disappeared at some point in the past half year or so (which caused me some confusion when it stopped working and I could no longer find the toggle).

That's not true. It still works on a Google Pixel running stock Android with the screen off and not charging. You never had to have it plugged in or charging for that to work. Samsung is the ONLY Android phone I know of that OK Google doesn't work with the screen off.
