Clock and automatisms - Asus ZenFone 3 Questions & Answers

In my ze520kl AutomateIt and Tasker cannot execute actions based on time. I had two simple controls, turn off phone at 5 o'clock and notify me at 7 o'clock, works perfectly on an old S3 and on this zenfone till the security update WW_14.2020.1706.53.
Both apps fail to recognize time and perform actions, so I think the problem is in some authorization to set on. The phone is rooted by magisk and xposed framework is present.
Some ideas to solve this empasse?
EDIT
The apps have all possible authorizations set on with appops...

Update clock app or update to the latest fw.

Done.
Too simply.
Doesn't works.
Clock updated by play store some days ago, updated firm to last .80 version but no clock-based controls with automateit or tasker.
Some other idea????

[Q] Weird behavior : no alarm ... and no Gmail !

Hello everyone !
It's been now over a month I have a nice Samsung Galaxy Note 3 rooted with "Root de la Vega" - SN9005.
And for unexplained reason, here are the troubles I ran into :
# No alarms set in the default stock clock app works anymore
I can try and set different alarms, activate and deactive them, none of them work anymore since this morning (GMT Paris).
What the hell ? Thank god my girl had her alarm this morning or else we would not wake up on time !!
# Gmail default app won't auto-sync my mail anymore
That's actually the thing that pisses me off a lot. It's history.
Back on my SGS III this summer, somehow, someday, Gmail would not auto-sync my mail anymore. I had to check them by myself.
When I got the SGN III I was happy to get my mail in push mode ! And now it does not do that anymore as well.
Come one, what's wrong here ?
Some relevant infos I'd want to share if that can help...
1) I installed and tried Snapdragon BatteryGuru for a few weeks. I removed it a few days ago
Some of its options allowed the user to manually force an app to sync at a specefic rate, ranging from manual to auto (push). Obviously, I let Gmail in push mode.
I uninstalled this app because it was not doing anything good.
2) I cannot really tell if my GMail issue happen before or at the same time than my alarm issue. I cannot also tell if they are somehow related.
What I can tell, I woke up on time yesterday, as usual, with my phone's alarms.
3) Per as a friend recommandation, I just did a Wipe Cache from the basic recovery provided with the "Root de la Vega".
It did not help at that point. Both issues remained.
4) Since I got my phone rooted, I never flashed anything. Only installed root apps such as Titanium Backup and System Tuner.
5) I regurlaly use System Tuner to kill unwanted app that pops now an then. I made sure GMail app and its services are never killed.
6) Application manager from settings, show empy apps for Clock apps. Related ?
7) When closing to 50% battery life, it looks like the battery is being drained a lot faster.
Tha'ts about all. Any idea folks ??
BUMP
Anyone, please ?
Stop messing with your phone, reset it to stock firmware and do a complete wipe.
don't use any system tuners or task killers ever.

Help! Security Policy Updates

I need some help, it started lasted night out of the blue.
This message "Unfortunately, Security policy updates has stopped" keeps appearing out of nowhere. See attachment.
I didn't even do any tweaking at that time. No one seems to have this problem when I google it lol.
What I did now is that I froze all knox apps via Titanium but it still appears.
Just now I disabled automatic updates on Settings> Security. Hopefully this works. But still I want to find out why now of all the time.
Latest tweak I did was install 1.2 UPSM which I didn't use at all at that time interval.

Hi.
I have the same problem started yesterday.
Did you manage to get it fixed?
So i downloaded this app - https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=cn.wq.disableservice
And went to system apps scrolled down to security policy updates and disabled all the check boxes. And looks like it is working.:good:

Hope this helps but the cause for me was because greenify could "hibernate" system apps. Maybe you have an app that has the same level of access. Or it could be one of the other "experimental features". The only thing I'm sure of that it had access to system processes. I didn't install any apps to fix it, only disabled the experimental feature.

[Guide] How to stop stop an app from "waking" your device

So far I thought that the battery saver feature "close app after lock" is not working because every time I unlock my phone few apps were working. Usually facebook, instagram and viber. My previous phone was Xiaomi and in xiaomi's software there is an option to block an app from auto-starting and waking your device. Well, today I found the same option in our phone. It is deeply hidden, lol. So i thought some of you may like this option. I think this will be good to the battery life of this device. So let me tell you where you can find the option:
Settings > Battery > Consumption level.
Now you see 2 categories - Hardware and Software. Obviously you should look into the software one. Find the facebook app (for example) and click on it. You will see "Settings" and under it you will find:
1) Power-intensive prompt
2) System wakeup
3) Close after screen lock
Now you can change the second option - System wakeup.
I looked through most of the apps and it seems that it works only with the downloaded apps. Not every app wakes your device but these which wakes your device can be blocked from doing it.
Unfortunately, it has been toggle for a long time in my case and it doesn't stop app like Facebook or Instagram to keep the system awake ?

Have you tried greenify with donation package and root? Works for me.
That only work for downloaded applications, not preinstaled. Mr suggestion is to uninstall and then unload again from the store.
It worked for me

Phone not receiving real time notifications

Hi, I have an OP5 on stock Open Beta 5, I'm currently rooted.
Apps that usually have real time notifications or functions don't seem to work until I manually start them after bootup, or even don't work at all.
For example, my mail app now doesn't give me notifications, rather I would have to open up the app manually and refresh the app to see my mail load. Other apps like a notification mirroring app don't work at all until I launch it once on my phone every restart.
I thought it was like Greenify shutting these processes down but I've uninstalled that since. Any ideas?

Did you reboot and wipe cache? What mods did you use additional? Please give more details about your setup.
You can also exclude apps from battery optimization for keeping this apps awake even when doze kicks in so messages came always through and not only in specific time periods.

Hi, I'm currently rooted with Magisk. I tried excluding the app from battery optimisation and so far it's been working.

All apps crashing on Android P since this morning

Things were going great the last few days on Android P until this morning. All of a sudden, post a few playstore app updates, the OS became unusable. Google Services (this apk possibly got an OTA update) kept stopping in a loop and all apps started closing....which ended up blocking me from using the phone (couldn't access settings etc. and was too lazy to adb into the device to troubleshoot). Ended up rolling back to oreo. Anyone else faced this?
More information please, where you rooted, custom kernel.ect
I was getting fc'z like crazy yesterday after a fresh install, what I ended up havingto do was a factory reset in twrp and have had none since.
No root, no custom kernel/recovery. Just pure Google provided images and apps from play store

no such issues here (yet).
clean install, no root.
Clean install of Android P with Magisk 16.1 last night. No issues so far but I'm not even 24 hours in. I do know that the Android P dev notes from Google report that the system can get extremely unstable over time. So the OPs issues make sense.
The way I'm looking at it is if my phone runs perfectly on Android P for 5-6 days before starting to hiccup, then I have no problem quickly reflashing Android P without wiping data every 5-6 days since it takes like 30 seconds and doesn't force me to re-download or re-setup any apps. To me, this would be worth it in order to run an otherwise stable version of Android that most other phones won't get until this time next year.
But, if I only make it 48-72 hours before the phone starts really acting up, I'll probably go back to 8.1 until the next iteration of Android P dev preview is released.
Clean flashed P the day it dropped, flashed magisk and flash when both were updated to support them. Only minor crashes every other day or so.
Playstore has a "huge" bug.Did you have beta apps (like WhatsApp,play services etc)? When you go to the tab "Beta" and try to hit on an application, playstore closes without fc message.
Clean install, no root. Widgets disappear randomly once or twice a day.

Stock launcher or a differnt launcher? I've been using Nova Prime since installing Android P 2 days ago and haven't had any issues with widgets disappearing or malfunctioning.

Stock Launcher. Might have to switch to NOVA. This is getting annoying.
