PC sees phone in Photo transfer but not File transfer - LG V20 Questions & Answers

Just recently my windows 10 PC won't recognize my V20 for file transfer. I tried different cables and different ports. It will alow all the other connection options. It seems very strange to me. It doesn't seem like a driver issue if I can transfer photos. Any one experienced this issue?

[Q] My phone won't connect on USB to computer, but my wifes Epic will

I have a Samsung Epic 4g rooted with the one click 2.5 and I upgraded to Froyo.
I had to use my wifes phone to copy the update.zip to my sd card because my computer would not let me see my epic. Same computer, cable and model phone works fine for my wifes.
I need to reinstall the one click root and can not get my computer to see my phone.
Is there a way I can root on the phone without using the computer.
So close to done, but I can not use the wifi tether without re-root
Different phones can be more finicky. No valid explanation why though.
Make sure you plug the cable into the phone first, then the computer. Try using different USB ports. If all else fails, try another cable.
I have seen a bad port on the phone before, but it had charging issues as well.

I have tried all the ports on my laptop. The phone acts like it is connecting. Even brings up the new usb connection icon but can not see the phone or sd card on my phone. USb debugging tried on and off.
No problem charging. I have tried various usb cables also and different computers
That is pretty wierd.
Do you have a different computer to check?
I'm having the same issue, but it isn't constant. I spent hours last night reinstalling drivers, different cables, debugging on-off. I go back to stock and try and it works fine, I install clockwork3 and ext4 with TrulyEpic and it does the same thing. Though sometimes it works. I found that my port is a little loose, cause when I move it to one side it looses connection. I think we may need to contact Sprint and get a replacement phone. I really want a brand new one, cause I didn't pay for a refurb, and really dont want one.

Sounds like something is up with the phone, man. The only commonality is the phone.
Especially if you couldn't access it before the flash to 2.2 either.
duh. It's already been scientifically* proven that phones perform better for women because they are often carried (snuggled) in the women's bra. See here...

I find my USB very finnicky on my phone connecting to my windows 7 computer,I've gotten used to just using File Expert to wirelessly manage my SD card.

cant transfer pictures to computer?

I tried to connect my nexus 4 to my PC , but it would not recognize it under my computer like it should so I could drag and drop. I tried mounting it as MTP and PTP and neither would be recognised.
I ended up transferring my pictures using adb, but I don't know why it didn't work the standard way.
Anyone have any ideas?
Have you tried using drop box? It's really simple and automatic. Just set it to upload only on Wi-Fi

I've used it before but I want to know why the nexus 4 was not recognised by my computer
Is Android debugging on?
Is it having trouble with installing the MTP driver ? Try turning off USB debugging, I couldn't get MTP to work until I did that.

Maybe you've got the same problem that we have here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2005437
Maybe you try:
A different USB port
A different USB cable
Uninstall existing drivers + installing the drivers again
A different computer
And if all that didn't help you can join us in the above mentioned thread. We don't have a solution yet but maybe we can draw some attention to the issue.
All the driver seem to be fine and the nexus 4 is recognised via adb. It used to work before so I don't what's wrong.
Edit: yes USB debugging was on
Ok, but that's actually good! What happens if you plug it into a different usb port?

It says your device could be faster with USB 2.0 and then it is not recognised.
Now that's really odd. Have you tried a different USB cable?

I'm using the stock lg cable. I'll try with my nexus 7 cable.
Edit with my nexus 7 cable it says connected by the windows 7 notification, but when I check in computer it does not show anything
But you have seen your N4 in the explorer before, right? I have seen my N4 on my GFs windows machine as Nexus 4, not as a storage device.

It shows up under devices and printers, but not under my computer
Edit:maybe it has to do with android 4.2 because I just plugged in a flash drive and it showed up under my computer
And what happens if you double-click it there? Can you get your pix then?
Edit: I didn't find my N4 as a storage device, so you can't find it as a letter in your explorer but a real device.

If I double click it it takes me to nexus 4 properties. My nexus 7 does not show up in my computer either that's what bled me to think it has to do with 4.2
Edit:nevrmind its not 4.2 because I just connected a lg motion which is running 4.0 and it does not show up either
Maybe someone with a win7 machine can chip in here, since I think it is a windows problem. I am on a linux laptop, so I can't really help you there. But good luck anyway!

Thanks for your help
By George, I fixed it I went into device manager I right clicked on SAMSUNG android phone then nexus 4 under that section, then I clicked update driver. Then I clicked on browse my computer for driver software after I clicked on let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer and I select mtp. The all of a sudden auto play came up with my device connected as a camera (ptp)
Now all my phones show up under my computer
MTP uses a completely different driver from ADB. So you can have one working but not the other.

Connecting LG V20 to Macbook, file transfer woes..

So I want to connect my V20 to my Macbook Pro running OSX Sierra, but I can't get LG Bridge to work, nor can I get any other software to recognize my phone... Anyone have any tips..?
Thanks..
I have woes too. I think my issues really are USB 3.0. I have tried on multiple computers but cannot get the phone to appear in the file explorer. The drivers install, ive tried reinstalling them from LG's website many times but no luck. I can get ADB access without any problem, and I can use a USB 2.0 port without problems - phone appears like it should to transfer files. But no go on USB 3.0. Maybe try a USB 2.0 port?
I don't know about the latest driver version for Mac, but once I update the driver to 4.2.0, USB 3.1 cable fully worked.
I have it updated on my laptop with Windows 10, and it can connect V20 in MTP.
I only managed to get my V20 connected to my mac in Twrp. I cannot get the MTP in the OS to work.
With OS X 10.11.6 on my MBP, using Android File Transfer and a USB 3.0 cable, I can see phone's internal storage only -- when changing to SD card, AFT crashes. With a USB 2.0 cable, I can see both internal and SD. It does sometimes take a couple of tries, and AFT does throw an error dialog.

Use www .android.com/filetransfer. Works on my 10.11.6 mac. You just have to change usb option to file transfer mode.
Thanks for the input guys...
It works fine at my end. Keep your lg bridge app updated.

My LG V20, 3 days old,
Tried every wireless option
to maybe transfer data of anything
on old Sam S4 - Nothing,, even though
V20 said it was connected to S4.
Next-
Try USB to MBP 10.11.6 -
with Android Transfer,, and select V20 to Transfer -
But it's only one direction.
I have 1 tune on the V20,,
when 1100 of partial load on MBP could be.
Went to LG home Site - It has no idea what V20 - or the model
number 5995 is,
Then States - Bridge can't be downloaded
to phone if not already.
It's not on my set.
But was able to download version to MBP'
So,,,
Here's pretty much where I throw in the towel,
and maybe jumped too quick on the V20
when I really wanted the Sony.
The issue is with the MBP upgrade!
I have the same issue on my MBP 2015 sierra 10.12.6 but not with my MBP 2011 with Yosemite 10.10.5 ? So where can we find is the solution / patch for the 2015 MBP with Sierra 1-.12.6?

P9 Lite only doesn't connect to PC

Hello, recently my device stopped being detected on PC. When I connect USB cable, it only starts charging, without debug mode and MTP. I tried 6 different cables, and both Windows 10 and Arch Linux. Also, it takes more time for the device to detect that cable is connected than before. Anybody had a problem like this before? Are there any solutions available?

Hi! I had the exact same problem last week. I tried everything I could think of but to no avail. I took the phone back to the store and the in-store geek could not solve the problem either. Eventually, they gave me a replacement handset there and then.
What is your Windows version ? I already have this issue using a "Naked" version of Windows (without Media Player pack).

Try turning on debugging and selecting file transfer in notifications when you plugged it in also there is a auto mode when you plug it into a computer you may have changed it to another option that stops you from doing file transfers try look and see if you accidentally did that it should look like this.

6t won't connect to Windows 10 PC

I'm at a complete loss here guys, hate to even ask this. So I tried to connect my 6t to my Windows 10 PC and the PC won't even RECOGNIZE that anything was plugged in! No sound and not even an entry in device manager. I even went as far as to reinstall Windows 10 and no dice. I installed the One plus driver from here on XDA and they are unsigned drivers, so I disabled driver signature enforcement and the drivers are now on my PC, but with the PC not even noticing something was plugged in it's no use.
Some info.
Using the red USB C cable that came with the device.
Plugging it into a USB 3.0 port on my PC.
Installed the OnePlus driver with enforcement disabled.
More info? Let me know! I'm lost here.

Try a different cable. I come from the land of pixels where you'd be surprised by the amount of headaches cables have caused. If that's doesn't work I'd be stumped as well
You have to enable USB debugging and change USB configuration to transfer data..

I did both. Doesn't work for me :/ In Android pie, is there some setting to enable MTP other than developer options? I don't even get the heads up notification on my device. I'll try connecting it to a USB 2.0 port instead of 3.0 and see what that does.

Just ruling out all possibilities (have run into this myself on other phones) :
Have you tried another port on you PC?
FWIW,I'm using a cable from either an LG or Samsung & that's working for me.
The device is seen & I got the pop-up on the phone after toggling the associated USB options in Dev Options on the phone.
Was able to execute ADB commands for an Immersive Mode app & to use the no-root ADB Uninstall commands.
I just used my og pixel xl type c cable and it instantly installed the drivers and recognized the phone
Front ports of PC chassis sometimes give too little power so try an usb port on back. try with other pc as it might be problem with your pc

Alright, so I tried different ports on my PC both front and back, no usb input sound or anything. I'm wondering if the USB C cable that comes in the box of the 6t just isn't a data cable? I have developer options enabled, adb debugging, and have the default USB mode set to MTP. Nothing still. I wonder why. Have you tried connecting your 6t with the included cable? Just to rule out if it IS a data cable or not. Thanks!

Tried some ports on the back that are part of my motherboard, same issue. No sound and no entry in device manager. No notification on my 6t either. The phone CHARGES, but nothing more.

Is there a possibility to try on another computer? Just to rule out that the problem isn't in the computer itself...
I've just factory reset my 6T and plugged it into a USB 2 port on the front of my PC, using the red cable that came with the phone, and it immediately recognised it. You clearly have an issue but we can rule out it being a general issue.
just checking. you say it charges, that was the default setting on mine after i enabled usb debugging. i opened notifications on my phone and the was a small one saying phone charging, when i clicked on it i got an options page for usb preferences and then switched to file transfer. works fine now.

are you in fastboot mode on the phone? are you just running the phone within osygenOS?
I'm going to say damaged cable.
Try any other device that you can plug it into. If it still doesn't work it's the cable. If you change cable and still a problem I'd RMA the device maybe faulty port on phone. Device is too new to be playing games like this. Get a new one.
I just connected my, to windows 10 laptop after seeing this post. No driver installed, red cable that came with phone, USB 3 Port in the laptop. Nothing was needed to do for it to be recognized. Worked just like that.
Albeit I enabled USB debugging in developer option beforehand and changed the option to file transfer.
Just wanted to show the settings
