Is fast charging better or regulae charging? - Samsung Galaxy S8 Questions and Answers

Hello.
It has been happening since the last few days .
Whenever I charge my cell on fast Charging mood , it first shows the remaining time to be about 1:37 and then changes to 1:27.
I mean when i used to charge my cell phone it used to show 1:27 in a blink. But now the time changes from 1:37 to 1:27 min remaining till the battery charges completely .
Is there something wrong with the settings ...or the battery ...???because it didn't do this up until now.
And I also feel like the battery is draining fast.
I had my finals last week and I couldn't properly charge my cell on time. I usually charge it when it hits 15% but in the last few days I let it drain to 1% . It started showing this time shift after this.
Please I am looking forward to your advice.
Thank you ~
Edit:also now I charge my cell on regular mood.

I have always been taught with any kind of battery be it phones cars or any Slow charging is better Extends long life of battery...Plus in cars I dont know about phones but cars,If you charge one to fast they dont get a full charge They get what is called a surface charge Which means the voltage might show 12v now but in a couple hours that 12v "seeps" through the rest of the cells and It will be less voltage after sitting

Time to fully charge battery

hello
just recieved my HD2 and I've drained my battery to 0%. now I was wondering how long will it take to 100% charge again.. 3 hours? 8 hours?
deiota
ps. Ive done my first 12hours charge already
With the original charger, about 2hrs if you don't use it at the same time.
yes Im using the orginal charger and the hd2 IS power off.
the stuff about charging for hours when you get it and then draining it right down no longer really applies too our batteries.that was for nickle batteries to initialise them and prevent the memory thing. with lithium ion they no longer suffer from battery memory.
ýeah it took about 2 h
2 and half ours starting from zero charge
I never did anything with the battery when i got mine!! Was way to eager to play! Never had any Battery issues.....
I did loosely time it once as i wanted to know what difference a quick charge would make and it seemed like it went up a percent approx every 3 mins... trouble is that doesn't quite equate... it would mean that from 0 - 100% would take 300mins (5hours)! but in reality it probably takes between 2-3hours..
I guess either the battery doesn't charge linearly or the percent display is inaccurate...
I Did a full charge at lunch time since it took me 1day and half till battery to drain completely,
I wonder if I should put it on charger all night long (its 10pm now and I have 80%) or should I let it out of charger...
If your battery needs charge, then charge it. There is NO NEED to completely discharge it and then charge it for sveral hours. In fact, modern li-ion batteries will take damage if _completely_ discharged!
The thing about completely discharging and charging for days is long gone! Batterys have evolved, we dont live in the 1990's anymore

Just got my HD2 how long for first charge??

Cheers
Baker0
Charge untill it shows that the battery is full. That is, 100% and the led lights green. It takes about an hour.
I always thought you have to do a longer charge for the first time. Or is that BS?
Was true with old phones but not with new batteries. I'd still give it a few hours though - does the manual not say anything?
just charge and go...
Yes it is tru with old phones, in the 90's., you had to charge them a long time. But that is a decade ago.
Charge it untill orange led turns green !
The battery will not overcharge as it stops charging when full !
Battery life at first was terrible 8-12 hrs
I found that if you charge it then use the phone untill the battery runs out (ie low battery warning) then charge it again & keep doing it that way the battery life gets longer & longer im now getting nearly 3 days without a charge !!

Battery's not full charging

My X2's battery seems charging in eternity. Have it plugged almost half a day and still is charging. I'm always turning my X2 off when I'm going to charge it, so I can see the battery icon when it's full. But this one's crazy, when I turn on my phone and looked at how many percent that it has been charged...it says 100%. But then again when I turned it off (still plugged to a charger)...it's still is charging.

Same issue as mine. I wonder what's causing this?
dont worry
this is the problem that many of us are facing with.
no way to get rid of. phone jast charges till 100%, and illumination stops , but the status remains charging. but really its stopped. the charger and battery both get cool.
Had anyone of you did try to send it to SE service center to address this issue?
Many times when I charge the phone the % indicater will just stay at whatever it was when I plugged in the charger. If unplugg the charger for a few seconds and reconnect it again the % indicater will update.
It's just one of those bugs.....
l have contact SE about a month ago..still no reply

It's better to leave the phone on when charging, that way the OS itself can control power management.
Really though, don't worry about it... as it has been said... it's just one of those things

Thank you for that info. But, how long does your battery lasts? Mine wouldn't even last 24 hours.

This is a question that is very difficult to answer as it depends on which applications you are running and how you use your phone.
Earlier this week I experienced that the battery dropped from 100% in the morning to less than 20% around 5 PM after having used the phone quite frequently throughout the day.
Yesterday I used the phone very little and from 100% battery yesterday morning I'm now down to 59% after 26 hours of use.
If you want your battery to last make sure you:
- turn off the screen when you do not use the phone
- turn off WiFi and Bluetooth
- don't use the radio
- turn of GPS
Maby someone else have more tips on how to get the battery to last.
here issue is not standby of battery-it is simple charging time and unacceptability of x2 to stop charging procedure. it just go on and on with charging(it does not display when it the battery is full it display that it is still charging-even if the phone is on charger more then 10h!!)

Sometimes I can use it all day and still have somewhere around 40% to 60% left at the end of the day. If I don't use it that much, it will maybe drop 10% per day. I have gone 3 days once without needing to swap my battery.
I have a standalone charger and 3 batteries. So I swap out the batteries from there every time it is low. It could be possible that the standalone charger does a better job of charging to full capacity.
EDIT: I also leave my 3G on always!
My battery lasts 3 days, about 30min of talk every day,5-10sms,20-30min of wifi,3g is off,gps not using yet...so that is about that.

First time charging your SGS2

HI, I'm going to receive my phone this afternoon..just confirmed by DHL Malaysia.
can I know how many hours you guys charged your SGS2 for first time battery charge.
Is it necessary to charge 8 hours for first time use?
Please share your experiences
for my past phone , nexus 1 and nexus s, I charged 8 hours for first time use and 8 hours for my extended batteries as well..
from my understanding, you don't need a extra long first charge for Li-ion batteries, you only need to prevent overcharge/overdischarge which is taken care of by the battery protection circuits.
In other words, turn on and start using it like normal
Just plug it in, charge it. When it's full unplug it.
Took me 1h to charge it up from half. Battery came with half charge.
Thanks mates, I'm charging the phone now
until it's full, I will unplug..
Try to run it through a few full cycles when you first get it though...
do u mean it has to be drain out before next charging?
I think it's a good idea to go from 0 to 100 in the beginning. Not for the battery sake more for the phone to learn what max and min are.

Why does this phone take so long to charge?

I have had it plugged into the mains, running tunein radio through wifi and its gone from 85% to 86% in one hour.
If I charge from 10% with phone off it takes about 4 hours to fully charge
If I charge from 10% with my phone on running stuff, it actually never gets to fully charges by the time I finish work...at 6pm
Sorry to keep comparing to the dreaded FruitPhone, but that would charge whilst running wifi and tunein from 10% to 100% in about 2 hours.
I am beginning to think my SGS2 is faulty
i am fiding it takes about 3 hours to charge from empty . It does take a long time indeed but i guess it is what we have to do for a 1650mah battery
3 hours from empty with stock charger .
jje
it might well be a 1650 battery, but it starts to get unusable when it takes all day to charge then a few hours to loose it all.
This phone is the greatest but the battery life just completely destroys it, I am beginning to think I made the wrong choice

Is that while using it?
you are not supposed to use the phone when its charging its really bad for the battery it gets very warm during charging as it is...

Aye... if I don't the bloomin thing would be dead by lunchtime, and I listen to music.
So I basically have to turn it off not use it so I can charge it, how crap is that, owned my iphone a year never had any problems with battery and I always used and charged in its dock.
The desire had slow charging too but snq- fixed this in his kernels maybe we can port his fix to our kernels
btw it's true li-ion batteries degrade quicky when the heat up (or completely charge or discharge)
From 30% it took me one hour and a half to fully charge..
I recommend to download battery mix as it takes very good statistic on the battery life and one can tell exactly how long it takes to charge and discharge

just for the record all Lion batteries in phones never fully discharge or recharge, as there balanced by a balancing chip.
when you get to the likes of 0% you actually have 20% charge, thats why you can power on the phone but it will immediately switch off again. like wise, charging you never reach 100%, it's more like 89%, again because of how Lion works.
if you fully discharged and fully recharged, well put it simply you'd have a lot of exploding phones, fire and chemical burns...
Interesting!
My phone charges in about 2,5 - 3 hours, so should be normal...
But charging with the usb cable connected to the pc it takes much longer.
Any of you experience the same thing?
greets!

Because:
a) That´s how Li-Ion-batteries are charged. To fully charge a Li-Ion-battery you need 3-4h.
b) The power-supply is pretty weak. It is just enough to charge the phone at decent speed, but it is not enough to charge it and intensely use it the same time. In this case much of the power is used by the phone and there is not enough left to do a proper charging. I use a 1,2A power-supply from my old Nokia, and while it won´t speed up charging itself, at least it slows down less when I´m using the phone while charging.

This is not possible. The mighty fruity-phone may tell you it is 100% charged, but certainly it isn´t
You can charge a Li-Ion-battery very fast from 0 to 70-85% you could reach this in 1h. But you have to charge the remaining 15-30% very slowly, otherwise the voltage would raise too much and destroy your battery.
The so called saturation-stage (the charging-stage until 100%) takes longer the faster you charged at the beginning. If you really charged until the saturation-stage in 1h, the saturation-stage will take 2-3h.
If you charge slower, so you reach saturation-stage after 2h, the saturation-stage will only take 1-2h anymore.
In the end it will always take 3-4h to fully charge a Li-Ion-cell, regardless how strong your power-supply is.
Another few notes:
Charging will get slower the fuller the battery already is.
Using the phone with low battery-percentage will lengthen the charging-time quite a bit, a stronger power-supply could help.
Getting the last 20% in a Li-Ion-cell will always be very slow, usage of the phone won´t influence this a lot, and a stronger power-supply can´t help.
It doesn´t matter much, how much charge is left in the battery, to fully charge it it will always take long, as you spend most of the time in the saturation-stage (the higher the left percentage is, the more time you spent in saturation-stage)

It is not faulty, it is designed this way.
It took 3 hours 10 minutes to fully charge my dog and bone yesterday whilst off
Thanks for the explanation!

Your having a bubble bath ain't you mate
Your battery sounds faulty to me, taking over 4 hours and only charging 1 percent in an hour. Try the battery calibration app in the market, if it doesn't improve get it swapped mate

The wifi is the killer, try turning it off when charging your phone..

it takes so long to charge because samsung capped the charge current at 650 mA in the battery driver. but other phones like HTC allow charging at the full 1 amp. so that's why its a slow charge, and why its possible to drain the battery even while plugged in to the charger.
Now who wants to ask kernel developers to increase that to .850 or 1 amp and use that lol.
I believe lack of heatsink due to design is the culprit behind decision to cap it at .650.

3 hrs to fully charge, and as i use tunein radio a lot i can tell you on my device with the screen off, wifi on with tunein running, it still seems to take no more than 3 hours maybe 15 mins more at most
I am probably going to order a cheap eBay Li-Ion battery that's 1800mAH and likely has a charge cap closer to 1000mAH. I will know in a week when I finally get my phone and report back if that battery helps. I expect it to heat up while charging and am going to use an external charger.
Two replacement batteries and an external charger go for about $12 USD on eBay btw.
