Maps and Llama trouble, Swiftkey question - Sony Xperia X Compact Questions & Answers

Friend of mine got her X Compact the other day. However, she's experiencing trouble with some apps (stock firmware 7.1.1).
- Llama doesn't find many cells and has trouble finding where it is. My LG2 with custom 7.1.2 firmware has no such problems in the same place.
- Maps doesn't show anything as a map, then times out when searching for a city with "Can't search".
- Her train app (Pendlr, for germany) only shows 3-4 trains now, when it used to cover the full next 2+ hours before on her old Z3 compact.
- Default swiftkey keyboard doesn't allow her to enter the normal swiftkey settings.
Location services are on and all apps have permission to access "Location".
Any ideas?

[Q] Precached maps: 'Error loading, tap to download'

Does anyone else get this with the Maps app? It seems they are stored for a few days to weeks, then the application or the system deletes them. Does anyone know why?
Interestingly enough, I ran into the exact same thing this morning. I'd downloaded a section of my local area a few weeks ago after wiping my 32 gigger & when trying to check directions this morning (offline), the map never filled in & I noticed the exact same message on the offline pane. Being able to store offline maps is kinda useless if the device reclaims that storage via some kind of background process.
I have this too, all the time, on my Galaxy Nexus stock 4.1.2. As far as I know, this has always happened, sooner or later, to any off-line maps I had downloaded. What could be causing this? Is there a way to repair/circumvent this bug?
Bug has been fixed!
Apparently this bug has been fixed: with the latest version of Google Maps, it doesn't happen any more. Thank you, Google!

[Q] Google now - not showing cards..

Hello,
So I've been using Google now for about a month now, and in that time I thought the service should have learn my patterns etc...
However, it hasn't, I have all the privacy intruding options on, e.g. GPS location services etc, and I have my home and work set up correctly, though I haven't had any cards on when I should leave for work, in-fact I haven't had any cards apart from weather at-all. They're all enabled, but it just doesn't show anything?
I've set my home and work locations, and according to Google latitude's history it logged me in at work (when I get there) and at home as-well.
I've looked up some "set-up" tutorials on Google now, and I've done it all apart from this screen:
http://puu.sh/2dPgs
I dont seem to have that screen at all, I have the option but when I go to the option I get this:
(sorry for the blur, I'm very privacy conscious) http://puu.sh/2dPqi
Any ideas?
Thanks.
Could be related, but Google Now seems to be down for me (noticed it was down around 6p and its 9p my time). All I get is local events and my next appointment. Up till this afternoon it has always worked for me (been using jb since it released).
EDIT: It seems that gNow is partially down at the moment others are reporting issues as well http://forums.androidcentral.com/an...301-weather-card-google-now-went-missing.html

KitKat Address Recognition and Multi Window Broken?

So I just upgraded from MJE to NC2 because I got a chromecast and wanted to use the new screen sharing ability, however I've found a MASSIVE problem that would literally cripple my process for my job. I work in real estate and have to visit several addresses a day, within rapid succession (within 1-5 minutes of each other) and on JB, I would email myself all the addresses that I needed to visit, and then open multi window with google maps and gmail simultaneously.
When I touched an address in gmail, google maps would pick it up and start navigation to it. Now, on KK, addresses are only recognized sometimes, instead of 100% of the addresses on JB, and when I click on one that does work, google maps switches from multi window to fullscreen.
Anyone know why the heck this is happening and if there is any fix?
I tried Bean's stock root deodex, and eclipse rom, and both had the problem so i'm convinced it's a kitkat issue. I can't find any information on these problems anywhere and I'm honestly shocked nobody seems to have noticed it.

How i hate google services!!!

Hello!
I love this phone, still awesome. BUT!!! Why we bough the phone if google play services eat all battery. I removed a lot google app, i used ,Disable Services" app, disable all location servies only use GPS hardware when need. And still GOOOGLE F***ING services draining my battery.
Can somebody create a lollipop image without GAPPS? Please
BTW i use Lollipop RU.
Sorry about my english and this but i'm very angry.
Thanks
I can't say I happen to have the same issue.
Have you tried a factory reset?

Doze Google Play Services
Android 6 has the Doze feature that can help you, it makes the system use lot less resources when the phone is idle.
But some remarks about Doze.
1 - Doze works, but only when idle for more than an hour and at night, so you should use "Greenify" to force Doze being used more often.
2 - Ads are constantly being downloaded on the background so use "My Android Tools Pro", to disable ads, on apps and some services you don't want/need.
3 - Use "Amplify" it helps.
4 - DOZE GOOGLE SERVICES - This is what you looking for. Yes it's possible, Google made Android have Google Play Services in a whitelist so it never goes Dozed, so you need to change it, you can see more about that in here https://forum.xda-developers.com/apps/magisk/module-enable-doze-google-play-services-t3608783, just install the "EnableDozeGMS+_TWRP - by VR25.zip", install it with the recovery.
Obvious for all this you will need root, custom recovery and xposed framework.
I also use "Intelli 3G" to fast change from 2g on standby to 3g when I really needed it.
"3g Watchdog" to see which apps are downloading stuff without telling me, so I can use "My Android Tools Pro" to disable those ad sevices or just make "Greenify" force sleep them...
Best luck
You can also use the YotaPhone without Google Services, you just use a Chinese version of the YotaPhone 2 ROM, Chinese ROM are smaller because China Government prohibits Android being released with Google Services by default, but remember there's plenty of apps that use google services for sync, location and web browsing etc, so some apps will not work without it, but it's possible of course. Just keep/change the correct radio for your YotaPhone Model, YD206 or YD201 etc, replace the radio folder from one ROM to the other and flash the ROM.
Hello!
Me again I don't know why but sometimes when i restart my phone (lollipop), in the settings menu ,,Data Usage" won't start or disappear. And i think that time my phone draining slower. Maybe. Is it possible? Is it possible to disable or delete Data Usage function?
Thanks
Hmmm, Data Usage should be a passive counter, not activly draining battery.
Unfortunately it's not easy to disable the counters function.

Turning into a GPS logger

Anyone still use one of these? I've noticed the G2 has a much more accurate GPS than the S7 that I use day-to-day, so I'd like to set this to just log GPX tracks all day while climbing, hiking, etc. with all other power consumption turned off. But Google Play Store no longer works, F-Droid won't update itself, etc. It currently has Android 2.3.7 ILWT-CM7-20130726. Any advice on getting it into a more useful state?

I know there are some sites that host old versions of applications. You could probably find an old version of whatever you're looking for. I don't know much about gps tracking /hiking apps unfortunately. I know I used to use MyTracks (or something similar). I'd imagine it would still work if you got the right version. Just look for something updated around that year.
I just did a Google search for "apk archive mytracks" and the top result had old a bunch of old versions, included version number, year of release, and android version supported - which is quite useful. Had some for Android 2.3. I would imagine it would still work.
I don't want to post the link just incase , as it can be sketchy sometimes downloading this stuff. But if your device is only going to be using gps and no internet connection, honestly I don't see a problem even if it was sketchy.
I miss the G2! I messed with that device so much and using custom roms and personally configuring things I managed to get the battery to last full 6 days with light use!
lineage-11-20210205-NIGHTLY-MLQ-vision.zip from https://download.milaq.net/public/android/vision/ seems to work!
I installed the older version of F-Droid from https://f-droid.org/en/docs/Running_on_old_Android_versions/ but it keeps crashing, so I just downloaded an APK from the website https://f-droid.org/en/packages/com.mendhak.gpslogger/ and it can be set to log whenever it's turned on and upload over SFTP at regular intervals.
