Videos - Black screen (Audio Only) - Nexus Player Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

When I'm playing videos using MX Player or sometimes Netflix, I get a black screen but I have audio. When go "back" to the previous menu, there is a glimpse of the video image before it proceeds to the menu.
The only solution I have is to restart the NP. It gets tiresome at times to do this. This is happening to two of my Nexus Players.

I had the same thing, I fixed it by not using MX Player. I switched to Exo player instead.

[Q] Moboplayer issues

I have been having ongoing issues since I first installed Moboplayer on my A500. It's great because it'll play every media format VLC player will but whenever I'm watching a video I cannot fast forward or seek using the slider. Absolutely nothing happens when I press the FF or RW buttons. When I try to seek using the slider it will jump to the end of the video, which is far more annoying than the two buttons not working. I have uninstalled and reinstalled the player three times with no change. I have emailed Moboplayer three times and have never received a response.
I'm hoping all you smart folks here can help me get this sorted because it sucks when watching a movie or a Top Gear episode and can't go back to the time where it stopped to continue on.
i also had horrible experience with mobo player. on my A500 it wouldn't play wmv, mpeg and don't even bother with flv...
why don't you try mx video player, it is also free and IMO a thousand times more stable and better codec support than Mobo. did I say it handles flv files?

It really isn't- from my own experience- an A500 friendly device. Great on my phone (t-bolt), horrible on my tab.

Playing MP4 video

I am unable to play any MP4 videos on the Thrive at all . I have tried the MX player with the codec that it has you download along with the built-in player and they all just hang, any suggestions?
Try pressing and holding on the video to bring up the pop up menu and select software decoding (I think that is what it is) and then playing the video. You can also try Mobo Player.
I used HandBrake for video conversion to watch on my Droid Incredible. I just copied those over to my Thrive and they work great with the native Toshiba player.

Media player crash bug

While watching, suddenly the screen goes blank, then every action in the media player is delayed (super laggy). When resuming the video, all it shows is a black screen while the audio plays. Takes a while to go back to home screen after pressing the home button, but once in the home screen everything is smooth again.
I have tried killing processes like gallery & media but it does not solve the problem. I have to do a soft reboot of the phone in order to continue watching my video
p.s i have only noticed this on revision3 video mostly because that is the only video i download onto my phone
Has anyone with a Nexus S ICS 4.0.3 expereinceed this?
You can try using an different app from market instead of stock player.
RockPlayer works very well for me.
Is this issue with a single video or every video on the phone?

Hotspot video streaming

I can stream video from my phone flawlessly using hotstop (without using data) samba and es file explorer. But now I'm having issues with VLC. Yesterday, VLC worked the best, it loaded the video instantly. The other video players have a small buffering time before playing the video after which they run flawlessly too, you can even skip to any part of the video and it works. Also VLC skipped instantly, the others have a slight lag. Today VLC will not play the video at all, it's the only player that won't, it's just strange that nothing has changed in my tablet or phone but VLC won't load the video and yesterday it could. When I click on the video and have it play through VLC, VLC starts, it tries to load the video, and then it just closes after a few seconds.
It's not a big deal, I just like that VLC hides the bottom bar, MX player doesn't, neither does any other player I have except for the regular android player, which won't allow me to change any settings on the aspect ratio so I don't like using it.
Any ideas? Maybe another player that hides the bar? Although I would prefer if VLC worked again through hotspot streaming.

MX Player, issue playing WMV files.

A lot of peoples told me to use MX Player as it's the best player out there for the Nexus 7.
So far it's fine, but the biggest problem i got is when playing WMV files. The video picture is fine (nothing weird like mosaic or strange colors going on), but most of the time the video would play slowly and the audio would get out of sync, so after a while the audio stop and resume when the video is back in sync, but then goes out of sync again. And this happen all the time.
I can't switch MX Player to H/W or H/W+ while playing WMV files, it seem to be forced to play them in S/W mode.
Is there a way i could, somehow, fix this problem? Should i download an optional codec for it?
I tested MX Player on my other tablet (Ainol NOVO 7 Elf II) and MX Player said it needed the ARMv7 NEON codec plug-in to be downloaded. And the WMV files seem to work just fine, and it use H/W mode. (unable to play in H/W+ mode though)
