MX Player, issue playing WMV files. - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

A lot of peoples told me to use MX Player as it's the best player out there for the Nexus 7.
So far it's fine, but the biggest problem i got is when playing WMV files. The video picture is fine (nothing weird like mosaic or strange colors going on), but most of the time the video would play slowly and the audio would get out of sync, so after a while the audio stop and resume when the video is back in sync, but then goes out of sync again. And this happen all the time.
I can't switch MX Player to H/W or H/W+ while playing WMV files, it seem to be forced to play them in S/W mode.
Is there a way i could, somehow, fix this problem? Should i download an optional codec for it?
I tested MX Player on my other tablet (Ainol NOVO 7 Elf II) and MX Player said it needed the ARMv7 NEON codec plug-in to be downloaded. And the WMV files seem to work just fine, and it use H/W mode. (unable to play in H/W+ mode though)

Video Performance

Hello,
I'm trying to get some xvid movie RIPs that I have on my computer to play on my laptop but so far I'm having no joy. I downloaded and installed CorePlayer 1.36 but the movies aren't playing right, they go green and it doesn't go full screen.
Do I need to change any settings to make it work properly?
The movies are generally 720x452(ish) and video is xvid 1600kbps with audio mp3 128kpbs.
Any help would be appreciated.
David
I hear they should play in HTC media player (not WMP).
HTC Player won't play xvid, unfortunately.
Re CorePlayer, go to Menu - Tools - Preferences - Select Page - Video and try to play with the Video output setting.
right now core player has problems of playing movies on HD2. also green here .
use WMP/HTC ALBUM is ok.

Does a good free media player exist?

It has been quite some time since I have used windows mobile, so my search for a good free media player capable of playing h.264 videos (or just most codecs nowadays) as turned up empty. Is the only way to play current media with an expensive program?
I can play h.264 (in .mp4 file) through the HTC player but no video shows up.
I appreciate any suggestions.
Try this version of TCPMP. In the Video menu set the renderer to DirectDraw, and check Dither and Smooth Zoom (100%). Then, on the DirectDraw page of the Settings menu(s), uncheck all the boxes and set the overlay format to YUY2.
TCPMP works okay for things like xvid avi's but for playing .mp4 files you should always use either HTCAlbum or Pocket Media Player - those are the only two video player apps that can use hardware acceleration on the HD2.

[Q] Divx audio not working after 3.2 update

Anyone else having issues with audio on divx video after the 3.2 update? I run moboplayer and mx player and neither have audio playback in video since the 3.2 update. Any better players out there i should try?
There's no such thing as "divx audio". DiVX is a VIDEO compression library and has bugger all to do with audio. The Avi containers usually contain MP3 audio, sometimes AC3 or AAC. Depends entirely on what your video files contain.
No audio problem with DivX movie with my A500 updated yesterday to 3.2, this both with Acer Media, clear.fi and MX Videoplayer.

Click to collapse
Should have been clearer in my title. I am having varying degrees of success with different files so yeah I guess it will depend on audio codec.
I had several problems not only with audio. I did a factory reset and now everything is fine.
I'm on 3.2, and so far mx player continues to play everything I throw at it...
I jsut wish i could find a way to properly stream it from my NAS... (ES file explorer with MX will stream the videos, but they freeze for a couple of seconds every couple of minutes (not a problem with wifi as I can download the whole movie to the device in under 10 minutes))
reset in the end and still had an issue then I remembered I had this when 3.1 rolled out. In moboplayer I have to switch on soft decoding and it works fine.
I'd love to find a way to stream from NAS too. I have a tonidoplug setup and it sucks having to copy files off before playing them.

mx player wont support DTS?

I threw some MKV files on my N7, but the MX (v 1.7.8) wont support DTS audio, hence there is no sound.
I tried to do this method http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1769799 but no go. still doesnt work.
downloaded this MX Player Codec (ARMv7 NEON) still nohing
what should i do to make it work?
BS Player still supports DTS.
BS player wont show the movie on the wide screen when i rotate the tablet and i didnt see any option to change that
MX player supports DTS when you give it a custom codec. I've used the neon.zip from this post and it works perfectly.
DicePlayer with "libffmpeg.so" as "Custom plugin".
Having the same issue, I downloaded BS Player and the sound works fine with it.

[Q] Stock video player and subtitles

Is the stock video player supposed to display subtitles from .srt files (named the same as the .mpt file)? If not what format should the subtitles be in the mp4 container? I know one can burn them in but I'd like to have the option to turn them on/off - not sure it's even possible as I don't see any menus/settings in the stock player but maybe I'm missing something obvious.
Don't think you can man. I just installed VLC from the play store. It's beta but it works best.
I know there are many choices of much better players (MX Player, Dice, Mobo, BS, VLC, etc.) I'm just trying to understand how "crippled" the stock player really is, that's all.
