December Update PSA & Waiting Room - Google Pixel 2 XL Guides, News, & Discussion

First and foremost: Do NOT wipe data from any Google services to get this update unless you are ready to do a hard reset.
In November, some douche on YouTube decided that it would be a good idea to hobble your phones by clearing data. Some people it helped, some people it didn't.
Google engineers have also said that this is ineffective.
It would be nice to get the OTA links. If someone here can use this link to get them, we would all appreciate it!
http://www.droid-life.com/2014/06/05/download-nexus-ota-url-file/
If you are waiting until Friday and don't have the update yet, I suggest sideloading it in recovery mode. It's a quick update, no risk of bootloops or a bricked device.
Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to you all!

My phone bricked by HTC update

Anyone else been bricked by the HTC update?
If so what kind of response did you get from Sprint? Any suggestions for dealing with them?
The current state of my phone... completely dead, it will not turn on.. connecting it to a pc doesnt show a device is connected..
Try taking out the battery for a little bit. If that doesn't work, just take it back to Sprint. They'll give you a replacement Evo or a loaner for the time being until a new shipment comes in.
They might think you bricked it through rooting.
Not sure on there policies.. Let us know
sorry about ur issue but i have to hand it to u bro.. congratulations on using the word "bricked" correctly regarding the status of ur phone.. for god knows how long ppl have been calling their phone bricked if their volume button stopped working.. im gonna go celebrate with a cheesecake!
Engadget confirmed 10 minutes ago that the OTA has been halted, its happening to lots of people I guess

Mine went as smooth as butter. Phone is much better as well.
Mine went good as well. No issues, and phone is much more responsive. I guess it pays to not root.
My stock EVO update was scary. It took between 10 and 15 minutes. It seemed to be in an endless boot loop. It rebooted about 4 times and it finally worked on the 5th. At some point I thought, "if it boots again, I'm pulling the battery." At the end, the voicemail icon was replaced by an error message. I trashed it and reinserted the original icon. There was no indication or hour glass or something letting me know the process was normal. It really seemed like something was wrong.
I can understand if some customers aborted the process pulling the battery, thus bricking their phones. I don't think it would be their fault.
I think a lot of phones were bricked because of user error. A lot of people probably pulled their batteries. I do agree that there should be some kind of indication that the update was still in progress. I'm rooted and I haven't updated yet since I already get amazing battery life.
Uh oh.
Sprint pulled the update.
My condolences to those that have been bricked.
FYI - my update went very smooth. Stock EVO, unrooted. Did not make the mistake of accepting yesterday's update twice though ;-)
What did Sprint said about your phone, will they exchange it?
bricked mine yesterday.
Made the mistake of running the patch twice. Being used to windows I like to patch first and ask questions later.
Learned my lesson.
1st patch went through smoothly. Everything was great except a few widgets need to be reloaded. Got prompted for a new patch in the afternoon and ran that without checking xda first. And that was all it wrote.
Called Sprint last night and tech on the phone knew exactly what happened to the phone and made an appointment for me this morning to get it exchanged. He said a lot of people are calling in about the same issue. Since it's within the 30 day period he informed me that I will be getting a brand new replacement.
Went to the store this morning and confirmed my phone is DOA. and *suprise* no phone in stock. They indicated they will be order me a new phone. The MOD also told me there are five people showed up last night with bricked evo's.
Called Sprint again after the visit. They are looking for another phone I can use in the mean time.
Not impressed with HTC at this point.
if you rooted your phone, then tried to apply this update, your screwed.
It will brick.
Good luck returning it. Not covered by insurance when you tinker with it.
If you do get a new phone, don't be surprised to see a big bill once they look at what you reprogrammed later on.

don't know who you're talking to but my phone is completely stock. (unrooted)
kthejoker20:
The reason it bricked was because of double updating, not because of rooting it.

With that said, sorry for your trouble. Hope you get a new one soon!

Thanks, the only saving grace of this whole fubar is that having heard some horror stories about Sprint's CS before. I was treated very well by everyone I spoke with so far.
Fingers crossed.

My phone was not rooted... I havent really seen a point to do it yet... (i did root when I had a hero)
I went to the sprint store, it took about 30-40 min to get a new phone..
But now I want to update it... just a bit concerned about updating it (for good reason lol)

A500 update to xxx1.41.07.com.Gen1 Status

Just so you all know, I have confirmed that this update is OFFICIALLY on hold, and that is why nobody is getting it pushed to them. It was pulled according to Acer due to continued issues with HC3.0xxx and they have determine the release of HC 3.1 this month will fix the issues still existing in the update. This is from Level 2 support. They will confirm a target date of "sometime" this month.
So stop holding your breath and returning units for new ones!
Thanks for the update!
I have it
I received the OTA update to Acer_A500_1.141.07_COM1_GEN1 last week. No problems so far.
Thanks for the heads up.
But I want it now!
I got that update awhile ago Acer_A500_1.141.07_COM1_GEN1.
It did create an issue. Taking picture and having it save on external sd; after a reboot they get deleted from external sd. However if you rename it then it will not get deleted upon reboot.
I recently got the 1.139.04 update OTA last week I think, after having waited a month for any update at all and now the damn thing freezes every time I unlock the screen, the browser crashes with every second web page I load and the Android Market won't stay open long enough for me to download any apps. =/ I know this is a thread for the 1.141.07 update but I didn't want to make a new thread about update issues. I just hope that 3.1 fixes all this mess because these things aren't cheap in Australia and I don't want to switch to the Transformer like a lot of other people seem to be doing. I need that USB port. =(

Last tuesday (June 6th) I emailed Acer in the Netherlands why I am not receiving my 1.141 update. Yesterday I received an answer stating that I will receive it on June 15th.
Updates?
Can you explain to me how are made the updates at Acer for Iconia?
Because my tablet is late on the updates and I do not understand why.
Thank you
Can someone tell me the official forums for this tab...and where do you guys get all the update news from?

Force OTA?

Two of my friends recently picked up a Nexus 6p after messing around with mine and my wife's. They haven't received any updates in the two weeks they've had them and the devices came with the January security update.
Neither of these two will be unlocking bootloaders or flashing custom roms, one is local and the other one is on the East Coast. So let's leave the comments about doing it manually out of here, I'm just interested in figuring out how to force the download of the actual over the air update.
Verizon if it matters.
I forgot to mention, I have been searching but the search function on the latest version of Tapatalk is completely useless.
The only way to force it is by doing it manually. You don't have to unlock the bootloader though. It can be achieved by using adb to sideload the zip with the stock recovery. This is probably more work than you want to get into but it's the only way I know of. I have instructions in section 12 of my guide:

I think I've read somewhere that it's an issue with the device syncing with the Google servers. A factory reset might help it along, that would wipe the phone though.
The February update has finally pushed to my handset today. Hopefully if I install, the March update will follow.

I was having the same issue. I downloaded the ota's and then rebooted my phone and I suddenly had the prompt to update to the February and then the March update. It's a bit too much of a coincidence to not be because of downloading the ota's so give it a try.

Unbrick Verizon Note 7 (No matter How Bad)

Hey guys,
I created an account here just to share this fix with you all.
To start, Tuesday morning, I decided to update the note 7 (to the firmware that changes battery color if your device is safe). After finding that my battery is still white, I contacted my Verizon Rep and ordered a replacement. Since the phone should have arrived the very next day (corporate account) I decided to flash my phone using the root methods in this forum... BIG mistake. If anyone can confirm that after updating the note, root is successful, then please share. But in the end what I was left with was a note 7 that wouldn't even accept the verizon firmware flashed through Odin. Smartswitch didn't work either (wouldn't accept my serial) so i was pretty much SOL and out of a phone... Until today.
After one last attempt to fix this as I wait for my replacement to arrive, I was searching on the verizon forums and found an old post from the galaxy s5 on their forum. I downloaded the repair assistant from here * verizonwireless.com/support/knowledge-base-80201/#windows * and put my phone in download mode. After connecting it and selecting REPAIR in the verizon software, the program downloaded the latest firmware and brought my phone right back to factory settings working as good as new. This was the only method that I found to work after several days of frustration.
I hope this helps someone out there. Thank you for reading!
i assume the only option was the most recent firmware?

Correct. The software goes to Verizons servers and downloads the latest firmware. So the annoying "power down now!" pop ups still show when the device is plugged in but it will be replaced soon anyway At least I have a functional phone in case of an emergency until the replacement arrives.
dude you save my life..same exact thing happen to me,but I had already updated my new note with the green battery and when I tried to flash the sprint firmware it failed and brick my phone..i decided to do the update cause people where saying that it did work with the new phone. but i guess i should of waited and not apply the new update.oh well
Glad to hear I helped somebody! Maybe I'll learn to live without root for a little while lol. The phone is still awesome

Okay, this worked for me, so I'm paying it forward because you guys have been tremendously amazing!!
SO, like many people with the PHE Verizon Note 7 , I received the 60% update and unknowingly installed it. Was very unhappy and tried to root my device not knowing that it would semi-brick it. Used the verizon software assistant to repair it and it erased and restored my device back to the point where it prompted me to install the update again. Downloaded package disabler pro apk version 6.3 and turned off auto update in the play store. MANUALLY entered in two file names which I will post below this and.. VOILA!!!! NO MORE UPDATE MESSAGE... EVER!!! This works only for VZW Note 7 as far as I know.
I disabled these two: com.samsung.sdm and com.sec.android.soagent since we are talking about Verizon here. They do vary by carrier.
First one gets rid of the message icon in the notification bar. Second one I guess stops it from coming back. Hope this helps someone!!
THANK YOU!!
You saved me from having to downgrade to an inferior phone. THANK YOU!!!
My wife (whose Note 7 was not rooted) accidentally did the upgrade from PH1 to PHE. Do you supposed we could plug her phone in and use this software to get it to revert back to the stock PH1 firmware? I'm trying to figure out how we can get her phone back to stock, if at all possible.

No. Not possible.
She is stuck on STOCK PHE.. block updates so she doesnt get bumped to the next STOCK upgrade at 60% battery
Hmmm. She now has the update where she's limited to 60% battery. Can't she do like Tmunroe1 above, try and root and use the Verizon software to revert it back? Seems like that would replicate exactly what he did, and ultimately end up back at stock like we want, yeah?
EDIT: Let me clarify. She does not care about root. She just wants her 100% battery back, so I'm interested in knowing if we can plug her phone in and utilize the Verizon Repair Assistant to revert it back to PHE w/ 100% battery.
Possibly

That worked for me. Yeah, I attempted root and bricked it unknowingly (I've rooted phones before but didn't adequately research the versions that wouldn't work. I was rooting for the express purpose of blocking the 60% limitation). But when the Verizon/Samsung repair software went in, it put me back to the version prior to the 60% update. I'm now able to charge to 100% and have blocked further updates using methods described above. Unfortunately, we likely don't have any way of knowing what version the repair tool will put on the phone, as they may or may not have remembered to update it by now. The version the recovery software put on my phone is N930VVRS2APHE. I hope this helps.

9.2.3.0 Global Stable OTA / DO NOT UPDATE!! Wait for next one.

So.
I received the OTA last night.
As I was downloading it, I went over to XDA and found that people were having problems with this update.
When I checked on this forum, there were people having the same problem but it seemed that some were not.
I looked on the internet to see if anyone from Xiaomi had addressed this problem and found none.
so I took the update about ten minutes ago and guess what?
Well, I'm writing from my One Plus 5T.
BOOTLOOP!!
I'm astonished.
It is connected to using the THEMES APP.
Everything looks fine, then you try and change your theme.
Suddenly you are booted into recovery and from there, a continuous BOOTLOOP, there's nothing you can do about it.
Listen, a bad update is possible, not everyone is perfect - but an official STABLE update that breaks your phone is UNACCEPTABLE.
I love Xiaomi and was quite perplexed at the complaints I was seeing - so yes, it's my fault, I went ahead with the update.
I couldn't find any information so I wanted to do this so that other people can save themselves.
I was an extreme Xiaomi fan....I was eagerly awaiting the Mi 7 Ceramic - I now am not. I have Xiaomi products everywhere, I've been telling all my friends and business partners about Xiaomi....
This is Global. The Mi6 is the standard-bearer for a global Xiaomi...but it won't work like this.
Never in my whole time on Android have I ever received an official update that broke the phone. Never.
Note: I am on the Stable track, all stock, never tampered with, OTA directly to my phone from Xiaomi. Directly.
This cannot happen.
Xiaomi needs to be careful here - they need to pull that update immediately AND reach out to those who cannot now use their phones.
It's a huge breach of trust and exactly the kind of thing which if not dealt with quickly, will spread globally and it will be very difficult to rectify.
Xiaomi is not the only manufacturer out there - mobile business 101 is you "...take your users with you."
I am astonished just looking at my phone loop, and loop, and loop. On an official update. Incredible.
Huawei/HTC/OnePlus...Vernee even: everyone's out there.
I might even just buy a Nokia and see what they're up to.
I am incredibly disappointed - and embarrassed.
So.
DO NOT UPDATE!
Or be like me and join the club. What do I use this phone for now? And it's less than 3 months old. A Ceramic Coaster?
I don't know what to say.
Incredible.
I have updated, and I have no problem ... although the old notifications have returned.
P.S.
Ok - yeah, I was pretty angry.
I just did a factory reset.
It works from there.
So it's a simple fix.
I just wish Xiaomi had said - reset your phone.
It's an update.
*Sigh*
I've updated my phone now and... Just dont do it. Buggy af.
Is not the same update as the one released as @beta [email protected] a few days ago. But it seem that factory reset after going from 7.1 to 8.0 is a must with MIUI.
Hi
My partner updated her phone last night and its stuck in Mi-Recovery loop. How can I fix this.
Thanks

It will factory reset - you loose everything!
Ah. I wish they had said that from the word go.
Worst update ever. Double notification, permanent Android system notification, buggy animations everywhere. I updated to 9.2.2 a few days before 9.2.3 and was like OMG good job Xiaomi can't believed this update is so good look at those awesome notifications and stuff! I was loving Xiaomi so much, I'm always nervous when buying Chinese electronics because I'm never sure about after sale but after having my phone several months and having bought another Xiaomi phone for my wife, I was just 100% into Xiaomi. I was putting cash aside to buy the new laser projector and vacuum robot for our new house.
So anyway. When I saw 9.2.3 just after updating to 9.2.2 I was like wow I can't believe I'll receive even more awesome features.
Oh man.
I hate my phone now.
This update is the worst thing that happened to my phone. I lost my trust in Xiaomi. It took time to gain trust. Took a few minutes to lose.
Do not update.
Do NOT update.
Wish I had seen this warning earlier. Was messing around with themes today, and after 3 applied themes the phone suddenly rebooted to recovery. And nothing else.
My phone is locked, USB debugging disabled. Cannot fastboot anything.
Guess I will try the wipe option. Sigh.

I only have double notification with gmail and it is gmails fault, because sometimes it isnt double.. (and when you google it, you get many results).
ROM is stable for me, the only "funny thing" is, when I go to the updater it says

But why nightly?!
My update is gone. I had it through OTA but now when I refresh it's gone. Does that mean they pulled it out?
