I've managed to get LineageOS built for an SM-T285 using https://github.com/jedld/device_samsung_gtexslte, thinking this would be close enough for the SM-T280. Unfortunately TWRP balks at installing it because my device has the codename "gtexwifixx" rather than "gtexslte". Where do I go from here?

Unfortunately nowhere.... You can't flash this rom on your device, cause it's different. You’d have to build a ROM for the 280. It will be probably easier because work is done for the 285, but still it needs to be done.

As far as I can tell, the 280 is just the 285 minus cellular radio. Would this therefore made sense? Change references of "gtexslte" to "gtexwifixx" and then comment out stuff having to do with the cell radio.
see here opening post https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-a/development/rom-samsung-galaxy-tab-7-0-lte-sm-t285-t3548219:
SM-T280 Users: Unfortunately this rom would probably not work on it since the SM-T285 and SM-T280 have different kernels and slightly different hardware. I don't have access to this device so it would be hard for me to port it over. However I believe there are a lot of similiarities in the device tree that can be shared. If a dev with the SM-T280 is interested I can probably help.

Remove the assert lines referring to the t285 model in the updater script.
It may boot with the T280 kernel.
Are there any news on this. Since searching 'lineageos samsung galaxy tab a t280' finds this page in 1st place, us, users of SM-T280 needs LineageOS for this device. It was released with Android 5.1 and we're on Android 9, as of now, September 2018.

So you've had Odin access but no longer do? Linux's version of Odin is called Heimdall. Check your Mint repository for it and google usage instructions. I use MX linux which has Heimdall in its repository, if Mint doesn't. The original firmware can be downloaded at Sammobile (https://www.sammobile.com/samsung/ga...e/SM-T280/XAC/).
Always make a backup before flashing and you'd have avoided this problem.

Aohh, ok thanks for the information.
Does this include all the original software that comes pre-installed on the shield tablet.
How do you flash these updates?
Edit: Nvm, Realised you gotta boot into recovery via USB debugging, using the Shield portable drivers. and then "Adb sideload --.zip file"
Side note, If anymore OTA links come up please sure! thanks!

is ther an international wifi only variant?
Doesn't matter. Just noticed that the North america wifi is the same one launched worldwide.
So is the modem and wif the variant with voice call capability? Then this would be the phablet of the year!
I flashed it, and haven't noticed all that much, WIFI signal seems fine for me, it seems little smoother. but that could just be placebo, no crashing and no overheating. been using this for about 3 hours hooked up to my TV playing PSP emulator. And only lost about 15% battery, currently using the Optimize profile for the shield.

yeah recovery errored out with can't install an older build over a newer one.

Very odd numbering system - I wonder if @agrabren could throw any light onto the build numbering?

I just got a GTab 4 10.1 for my Mom and have a couple questions. First, if it is rooted will that prevent it from automatic Samsung updates?
Second, I was thinking of just putting Cyanogenmod on it but see that there's no release for this model. Are there any ROMs that I can put on here for my Mom which will update automatically?

These are all cyanogenmod variants and all should work with that tablet:
--Regular Cyanogenmod 12.1 (lollipop) and 13 (marshmallow)
--BlissPop and Bliss 6.0 (probably the most customization options of all the choices)
--PAC ROM-LP (only lollipop available for now, no marshmallow yet)
There's a few more but the rest aren't actively supported or being worked on any more

As theyre unofficial cm builds they dont have proper auto update option, you have flashnew rom.zip always when whishing to update. No need wipe anything if youre updating rom but if youre changing from stock to custom ALWAYS do full wipe or it may cause soft brick and other problems

Tab 4 wont get likely any updates in android versions and cm wont update it without wipes so i would say there wont be too much updates on roms if its stable, so its fine update once a year, atleast ive been doing fine on other devices without lastest updates.
Guys, Android Nougat 7.1 is now available for all Snapdragon variant Galaxy Note 4s (which of-course include N910P Sprint variant) and as a result, I'm sharing here the link of the thread from where you can get an insight about the latest development of the ROM & other things.
The link is :
http://forum.xda-developers.com/note-4-verizon/development/cyanogenmod-14-1-t3495231
Kindly thank & support @hsbadr for all his hard work & time devotion for the ROM.
(I'm in no way to be associated with this ROM as this is solely the work of @hsbadr. All the credit goes to him for it).
The ROM works quite well on unlocked variant of N910P model with a GSM SIM Card.
Users on a Sprint network need to check about the feasibility of the ROM.
If anyone is interested in trying out the ROM, then kindly thanks @hsbadr & have a look at the below mentioned steps that I took to make it work on my N910P model using a GSM SIM Card.
1. This ROM even works on newest PJ1 bootloader & baseband. So, you can try it out without worries if you have taken the latest OTA update.
2. Perform a full nandroid backup of the current ROM.
3. Wipe all the partitions 3 times (except Micro SD Card) using latest TWRP recovery.
4. Download the ROM, GApps & Boot.img from the above thread mentioned & flash it in the following order:
a. ROM
b. GApps
c. Boot.img
5. Wait for the ROM to boot (it may take upto 15-20 minutes to boot, so be patient).
6. Complete the setup.
7. Enjoy Nougat on your device. :good:
Bug(s) that I've encountered:
1. YouTube videos have no sound on Bluetooth headset/plugs.
Kindly keep all the discussions related to N910P variant on this thread only so as to keep that thread clean.
The ROM is primarily meant for Verizon variant but works well with other variants too.
Will def have to check this out, Thanks!

I'm using this ROM. The boot.img is not necessary to flash. Just flash the ROM and gapps like any other CM variant. I use sprint and had to fiddle with the *#*#4636#*#* menu for data/SMS to work and have to toggle airplane after a reboot but for an early build it's great. Battery has been wonderful. Other than the mentioned streaming issue (issue isn't present when streaming over Bluetooth) I've only run into GPS being fickle.

For me, the audio did not work with or without a Bluetooth headset.
Now, I'm not able to place any call (without any Bluetooth device) even when there is good network.
Also, Couldn't hear any voice even on Chrome, but yes, for an early build, the work is definitely amazing by the developer.

Thanks, I finally seen that info in change log. But from what I've read in last few post, it looks like latest build has some extra bugs. So i think I'll try the trlte build for now.
That's what i took from it anyhow.
Does it matter which gapps i use? (Eg. Aroma, full, micro?)
I'm heading to work, so when i get more time I'll try, and maybe try root and exposed.

Don't believe xposed works on 7.1 yet, root hasn't been an issue at all for me. I did flash supersu 2.78 though instead of using the cm root. For gapps I used the micro since it was small to avoid conflicts but still had exchange included.
Not sure if it effects just the N910P model or not, but trying to access any .webm files crashes the entire phone. I can't even open the gallery up or it crashes.

I just got around to installing. Anyone else having problems using root with default file manager? I can't open any thing but internal. But fx file works with root.
So it must be file manager
I downloaded the CM 14.1 and it works fine but I couldn't download gapps from github because for me this site downloads don't work.
So I didn't test a lot of things just make some calls (CDMA Carrier) and take some tour in system settings then I returned to Touchwiz rom again.

You are probably stucked because you upgraded to the latest bootloader:

Here's a workaround:
Backup your present baseband on TWRP, flash ALEXNDR Oreo's ROM then restore your baseband, otherwise you won't have mobile signal and your IMEI will be unknown.
So in theory the only way to downgrade to Oreo or less, is having the bootloader unlocked with TWRP right? if not, you're stuck
No Bootloader downgrade. Not possible.

Quick question for you @nemesisexsp as you seem to know what you're talking about.
I'm in the same boat as OP. attached is my SOFTWARE INFORMATION section with my baseband and whatever. Slightly different to what you've posted on your screenshot.
Can you suggest which files I should use from the ALEXANDR Oreo Mod selection? also, just the ROM, or do i need to do something with the BL files also?
I'm rooted (with TWRP), so that shouldn't be any issue.

I suggest you flash the last Oreo ROM available for the S8 model (SM-G950F/FD). After you flash it you can boot normally in the ROM and see if your mobile signal is fine, if it isn't just restore your PIE baseband on TWRP.

Because Pie is absolute trash on the S8 Active. Battery life went way down hill, constantly stutters like the CPU is loaded or it is thermal throttling, notification screen blanks preventing you from see any in the bar. Tapping notification doesn't always open. They ruined the camera UI. Control via bluetooth doesn't work anymore(forget the name but used to when I started my car it would automatically open Pandora and play. Instead now I have to unlock the phone and open Pandora manually".
I only wouldn't be surprised if it come out later that Samsung pulled and able and deliberately crippled devices to encourage upgrades. Joke's on them because my upgrade will be a different brand.

Unfortunately the S8 Active did not come in an exynos version AFAIK.

you make no sense. T580 never got 64bit system, but someone made custom and it works 100%. So what exacly isnt supported?

you make no sense really lol.. ur mad at samsung for not releasing Q on t515 as x64 system.. theres a difference between samsung "officially" supporting x64 system on these tablets and a dev making an "unofficial" x64 system, they are two different things..
samsung released the devices and provides official firmware.. clearly they are not supporting x64 system on the tablets.. if they havent been providing x64 system and still arent its bevause they arent going to and any x64 system we might get would be "unofficial" and of course not supported by samsung..
its possible as u stated someone did it on the 580 so i see only two options if u want an x64 system, 1. You make it yourself or hope another dev does or 2. You buy a tablet that samsung officially supports and provides x64 system in their official firmware.
im not trying to sound rude or anything so hopefully no one takes it that way (i am always like this lol).
I umeerstand its frustrating some ppl that dontknow how to build their own firmware/roms but I also assume its a lesson learned if it means that much to ppl and they will do more diligence next time they shop for a tablet. i personally dont mind as it does what I want and was dirt cheap compared to the flagship tablets. It definitely does have a closer feel to the top dollar tabs but at a fraction of the cost and if u put ur mind to it u can even achieve a x64 system if u really wanted to.
thats just my opinion though, we just have different opinions on what "official" means in this context.. u think official as in the device supports it but to me official is what samsung does/provides, everything we do as devs is considered "custom" and unofficial especially in samsungs eyes
So its the same case with SM-T295? it is a non 64 bit tablet?
This firmware works fine on my non-Italian T510.

how did you flash the firmware? (steps)
1) unlock bootloader:
https://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-tab-a/how-to/guide-unlock-t510-bootloader-t3929459
2) flash firmware using Odin. Ignore HOME-file.
This method will wipe all data I think.
Everything is explained over here:
