Since applying the 1.47... OTA, I can literally watch the battery drop minute by minute while the phoe is active.
Within the first 1 minute of removing the phone from the charger the Battery Status Pro reports the charge droping from 100% to 97%. That's a 3% drop in 60 seconds.
Within the first 3 minutes of active use BSP reports the battery drops to 93% charge. That's 7% loss in less than 200 seconds of use.
Now I'm not saying BSP is 100% accuerate but I expect it's not too far off.
Battery life with the Evo has never been phenominal but this seems rather extreem. The drop seems far faster now than when running the 1.32 release. And... while I am in a 4G enabled market, this is with 4G disabled and the phone running purely on 3G with no flickr, twiter, facebook or other feed widgets running and autosync disabled for all of them.
When I look at Battery Use under settings / About Phone / Battery the Android System is by far the largest user of battery, nearly twice the next closest user which is Cell standby.
Am I the only person experiencing this?
The phone was doing this before the 1.47 OTA, it's a problem with charging the battery in the phone. It does not charge properly for some reason and it will drop all the way down into the 80's within an hour of unplugging it. If you get an external battery charger and use it to charge the battery the phone will stay on 100% for an hour or more...
Have you removed the HTC people widget from home screen? The day I removed that was the beginning of decent battery life. Also try turning off the phone when charging - seems to work better that way.
I would try charging to 100%, unplug, wipe the battery, plug it back in again until the light turns green and try again and report back.

I wondered if it was the powered off portion of that battery trick that was doing it. Hmmm. I'll have to watch. Is there any link/source on the idea that the phone itself is not working so well at charging?
Out of that voodoo on the getting better battery life the only thing I could come up with was...-charges better when off, - you need to charge for a bit while on to reset the battery indicator, - and charge a bit while off to top it up.
So I was leaning toward it being a charging thing and not a battery thing...would like to see any technicals though and not just my guessing.

I gave the charge it with the phone powered off thing a try. The device was down around 80% charged when I powered it off and plugged it in. In about 5 minutes the charge indicator turned from amber to green as if it were fully charged.
I can't believe that the battery charged 20% in 5 minutes.
This leads me to believe that the first response is correct. The battery simply isn't charging fully in the phone. I believe I'll look for an external battery charger and give it a try. See if it makes a difference.

Seriously, try full-charge, wiping your battery data and then shutting it off and 'topping it off' and reevaluate the situation.
EDIT: The "topping it off" thing is all voo-doo as far as I'm concerned. I just do it to be safe, though I'm pretty sure it's ineffective.
I screw with my phone so much, so much flashing/restoring back and forth while on charge, between
charge, car charger, USB charge at work, wall charge, flashing again, kernel swap, restore back again...etc etc etc...that if I don't wipe my battery once I hit a full charge there is no way I can trust that meter to do anything more than change colors. I do it every few days when I notice the meter isn't being trustworthy.
If this doesn't work for you I'd say you probably have a bunk cell in your battery, and failing that your phone just might not be charging well.
Also, charge with the wall and not USB. USB takes forever. And 20% in 5 minutes isn't TOO far off if you are plugged into the wall and getting full-power charge. Maybe 10-12ish minutes, unless you were timing it very specifically....
I just got my bricked replacement. Here is the data from a 100% charged battery usage up time 18:13 .. Awake time 15:27 the battery is at 87%

I am LUCKY to get 8 hours of battery life on my brand new stock Epic.. I usually get 4-6 hours. It will NOT last through a normal day of work without putting it on the charger around lunchtime. I take it off the charger around 6:30 AM and I am usually home by 4PM and have to immediately go and charge my phone.
Even if I put it on airplane mode, kill all running applications, and shut the screen off to standby, the phone still seems to suck battery life down very quickly (~5% in 20 minutes on airplane mode, wtf???).. So airplane mode doesn't help.. And I really DON'T want to put it in airplane mode to conserve battery because then my phone is completely useless -- it won't even ring when my wife calls..
Is my battery defective? Please tell me it is... This can't be right..
Are there processes still running that use lots of CPU, even when the stock sprint "task manager" program shows that nothing is running? Is there anything I can do to improve this if I root the phone? How about custom roms? I would really like to run Froyo/Gingerbread anyway.. If anyone has any suggestions to help to make my battery life not such an EPIC FAIL, I would greatly appreciate it.
EDIT: Also wanted to comment on the SLOW CHARGING. With the stock Samsung wall charger, it takes at least a couple of hours to get a full charge. With a USB cable plugged into a PC overnight, it only gets to about 50%. Compared with my previous phone, the HTC TP2, this is really really REALLY slow. It charged in 30-60 minutes and the battery lasted much longer.
I did notice that Samsung only provides a 0.7 amp charger, versus a 1.0A charger for the TP2. Why does Samsung limit the charge current like this? And apparently there is no nueBattery mod driver for android
UPDATE: JuiceDefender looks very promising. Installed the free version and my battery is only down to 95% after one hour. Thanks for the suggestion.
FWIW, I'm getting about the same 8ish hours on mine running DK28. I'm losing about 4% an hour without touching it. I'm seeing some people claiming insane battery life (18 hours with heavy browsing on wifi) I wish I knew how they were managing that.

First, the airplane mode means you switch the phone to airplane mode first then switch it back so you won't have time without signal problem which can cause battery drain.
I am able to get 10+ hrs at least by doing the following
1) use airplane mode trick so no TWS
2) use titanium backup to remove a bunch of stock junk
3) use titanium to freeze certain applications (DRM, MediaHub, Qik etc)
4) Have as few applications as possible that constantly pull data
Just yesterday I had 1 day 17 hours before switching
Yesterday when it finally gave up the ghost with the battery indicator blinking i checked my stats.
I had 1 day, 17 hours unplugged. Screen time was around 2 hours and some minutes. I had 45 minutes of talk time.
One thing i will add is I purchased a charger with two batteries off Ebay. Previously when charging with the stock charger as soon as I pulled it off the charger it would read 97%. With the seperate charger it reads 100% for quite awhile before it starts to drop.
And for the record I purchased this charger and two batteries of Ebay for a winning bid of $0.01, plus $9.95 S&H. It was a steal in my opinion.
Unless you are getting near 12 hours of battery life, one of 3 things is occurring:
1) You are using the phone an insane amount
2) You messed something up
3) The battery is defective
For the record, its almost always number 2.
I suggest doing a Factory reset, which will wipe everything off the phone. Then without installing anything or setting your facebook to update every 15 seconds, see how long the battery life lasts. If it is still only 4-6 hours, then your battery is most likely defective.

I just plugged my phone in after 4 1/2 days (108 hours) running on a stock 1500maH battery, running Quantum Rom 1.5 (DK17), no special apps running to disable data (aka Juice Defender, etc.), not in airplane mode at all, with the DRM software running, in other words, a more or less 'Stock' configuration (taking into account any differences in the base Rom).
Granted, I barely used the phone in the last 4 days though

I'll do that. For the record, I've got fbook set to never update, and seesmic once every 6 hrs.

Like I said, barely touched my phone in the last 4 days... been feeling a little under the weather so have been at home a lot and in bed doing all my internet stuff and gaming (pogo) on a laptop instead of on my phone.
Since I updated to the leaked Froyo, my battery life has plummeted. It lasts maybe 1/3-1/2 as long as it used to. Turning off 3G has helped immensely though, so that must be the culprit. I used to be able to leave 3G on while at work and make it to bedtime before having to charge it. Or if I shut it off at night (which I usually do), it would make it through my commute to work the next morning. Now, I'm lucky to get through the work day unless I turn off 3G. Huge difference in battery life for me since updating. I'm hoping they fix this in the official release of Froyo.
Well, I've recently found out that if you flash via update.zip while the USB is plugged in, you'll mess up the battery calibration of your device. This is what I did, and i'm pretty sure the cause of my problems. I did find a fix, and here it is:

8. Leave the phone on the charger and reboot into the ClockWorkMod recovery menu and wipe the battery stats via -> Advanced -> Wipe battery stats.
9. Disconnect the phone from the charger, restart the phone and start using it as normal.
From then on always let the battery drain close to empty (5% or less) as often as possible and then charge untill the voltage is at least 4187mV. A higher voltage like 4192mV or more is even better.
Normally you will have to do this only once. However, on all Android ROMs, if you flash a ROM while charging or during the first boot screen on, first boot mucks up the levels Android thinks the phone is at, i.e. Android will think you’re at 100% when maybe you’re only 90% or whatever. So in theory you will need to repeat this every time you flash a ROM while charging!
Better is to make sure the battery is charged before you flash a ROM and just remove the USB/charge cable before you flash a ROM. Put it back in (if you must) after the first boot screen (when the custom screen or whatever shows).

From what I've been told, you don't have to wipe the stats (you need root to do that) but it helps if you can.
I think this may also stem from interrupting the inital charge of the device. I know I did this on both my wife's device and mine (plus my added fubar of flashing with the USB in). Anyway, hopefully I can report some good news tomorrow.

I get 4 or 5 hours if that. I can barely make it to 6. But i probably use my phone more than the average person. Because i take public transportation and browse, stream, email and have 4g connected on my commute back and fourth.

I've been running JuiceDefender for about 5 hours now and I am loving it.. I still have 75% and I can still receive calls just fine.. It turns off data when the screen is off, but turns it on at scheduled times (default is 1 min every 15 min) so that your emails/twitters/etc can update like normal. The paid version has even more features so I bought it..

Decided not to quote the whole thing but I'm in the process of doing this right now! Took 2 hours to drain my batt from full (running everything and keeping my phone searching for gps constantly in a place where it would also be searching for signal makes quick work of a battery!).

Yes, with juice defender I can receive calls and my gmail/twitter/facebook/etc. are all already up-to-date whenever I pick up my phone. It works exactly as before, except my battery is not constantly being drained now.
I guess the downsides are that I might not get a new email notification for 15 minutes, and that there is a service running in the background that may cause some slowdown. Neither has been a problem for me so far. I highly recommend this application for Epic 4G owners. Problem solved, basically.
I usually get 12hrs with moderate use (~2hrs with screen on, half of that is usually on the browser). I turn background data off bc I don't have a twitter and I rarely check Facebook so when I do I just use the browser.
I also noticed that wifi burns more battery on DK28, on 2.1 I would hardly lose any battery on standby with wifi, now I get a 3-4% drain per hour... But with 3g on now I lose less then 1% an hour, it used to be a battery hog.

goto the market and look for battery calibration, when it hits 90% or so or wont charge more, hit calibrate, then drain it to 0 and charge it back and see what happens, also whats the voltage levels at 90% ?

The battery thing is a pain in my A$$.. this is what I did to fix it:
1) drain phone 100%
2) charge to full while phone is off
3) while phone was still charging, I pulled the battery, waited for the screen to show a question mark, then I plugged the battery back in. Then it shows the battery as 5% or 10% (YMMV)
4) let it charge again for another 2 hours
5) before turning on; I went into recovery and deleted battery stats, then rebooted
6) phone should be at 100% or close to it, if not, then wait until its at 100%, then calibrate the battery using the app.
NOW ---- after doing all this, my phone seemed fine.. then.... the problem started happening where the phone wouldnt charge to 100, then it wouldnt charge to 95, then it wouldnt charge to 90, then it wouldnt charge to 85..
of course I started freaking out like WTF -- but.. this is what I did to fix it:
I tolerated it. I just kept using my phone, charging when I needed too, etc etc etc. I never let it die completely.. i just kept charging once the phone hit 10% or so (over night mostly, and sometime thruout the day).
Eventually the percentage started creeping back up... slowly.. I noticed after every overnight-recharge, the percentage would climb up by 1. So it would goto 85..86...87.. etc. etc. until it got to 95.
Then over the weekend while I was streaming a movie on a car ride home; the phone died because I ran out of battery, I took it home --- put it on the charger without turning it on... let it charge for an hour or so, when I turned it on the phone was at 80%.
I kept charging it -- and now.. after ALL OF THAT... my phone charges to 100% . EVERY. SINGLE. TIME.
Sorry for the long post -- but this is what I went through to fix my battery. a PAIN IN THE A$$ , but I think eventually your battery will learn to fix itself.

I have this strange issue with the battery calibration.
At first i thought the battery was dying on me. It normally stay active to 35-44% and then the OS would just suddenly report the battery is dead and just turns off.
Then i just boot into TWRP recovery and leave the screen on. And it's able to stay on for another whole hour at maximum screen brightness till it actually dies.
I tried deleting the battery stats in the data folder and letting it drain to 0%. But the OS still thinks it's out of juice around 35-44%...despite the fact that it can stay on for another hour or so in TWRP recovery.
Is there anyway to adjust the capacity of the battery in the OS?

When this happened to me (but with 20%), all I did was letting the battery drain and charge it fully while turned off. Don't know if it actually works, but it solved my issue. Give it a try .

Funny, I had just about the opposite problem. It was stuck at 35-45% while charging, or it would only go up about 1% every 20-30 minutes. Sloooowwww. Same solution seemed to fix it--let it drain to shut-down, recharge with power off to 100%. It seems to charge faster with power off, but I haven't done an a-b test to verify.
So I just started getting this after the update to 5.0 on my N10.
Beforehand I never noticed anything, although its been a few months since i have used it till a really low battery.
But I updated to 5.0. Used it for a while, the OS registered like 70% battery and then instantly 0% and it shut down. So I booted to the bootloader to see and it ran just fine for a while. I got bored and booted it back up, immediately shut down.
I plugged it in and booted it up and it was a 0% for a LONG time before it ever registered as actually charging. Then it charged normally until it got to like 25% and then instantly to 100%.
Im hoping its just a calibration thing, I did a factory reset just to be safe but it still did it. I guess the next steps if it still does it after a few cycles is to install a custom recovery and clear stats.

I've got almost the identical issue as the OP. Tablet shuts off without warning around 35-40% batter. When I reboot it says 0% battery and immediatley shuts down. If I boot into recovery mode though it will stay on for 2-3 hours before dying. I tried this and then charged it to full overnight with the device powered down and still today it shutdown again around 40% battery. Tried a battery calibration app before too but nothing has fixed it. This is 4.4.4 stock rooted with xposed. Been happening for about 2-3 weeks now. I'm pretty sure it's got to be software related right?? Anyone find a fix yet?
Just posting to say I'm seeing the exact same thing. It also just started happening since the update to Lollipop. It is shutting down at about 30-40%, then when I turn it back on it is at 0% and will shut down immediately unless it's plugged in. However, like the rest of you also said, in safe mode it'll stay on for a while longer without being plugged in. We really need a way to calibrate the battery somehow. This is a very frustrating problem. No warning at all!

After a full charge it's saying I only have three hours left on the battery. Battery life is really poor. I'm not sure if the battery is worn out (I've had the tablet since it came out) or if it's from the update.

I thought 'thats funny' then it started to go down some then it hit about 55% then BAM. Drops to zero and shuts off.
After that it would not take a charge no matter what I did but then for no particular reason except I was lazy and didnt wanna have to boot it up again after I plugged it in, I left it plugged in and went to take a nap. Came back an hour later and it had charged to 43% after having been at zero for about 20 minutes after I left the room.
Now its stuck at 43% and wont charge any higher. I'm leaving it alone for a few hours to see if it will ever get to 100% then ill run it down to zero then charge it over night turned off to 100%.

But then others say you should do it with the Nexus 10 because it DOES calibrate the battery and that the tablet software protects the battery from actually going to zero%. (Saves a few percent and shuts off).
But then also someone else said battery calibration only works via a hardware change inside the tablet and that we are actually talking about conditioning. But then someone said conditioning is the max storage and that the 40% to 0% drop is not conditioning and since the charge discharge charge is for conditioning a Ni-Cad it wont help. Around we go.
There was also mention of a samsung PHONE having a problem with a bent usb pin inside the phone. But you had to pop the battery to bend the pin and since you cant do that a on Nexus 10 that doesnt help. (Plus the pin doesnt look bent to me even though about 30 people chimed in saying it helped them. But that was all phones.)
And finally. One website says you have to root the nexus 10 and use a batter calibratino app to calibrate it as option a but option b was some crazy combination of charge to 100 discharge for an hour, charge to 100, discharge for an hour, charge to 100, discharge till your aunts pink underwear falls off or something equally strange.
I'm betting based on you guys os upgrade bug. Just too strange. My 2 year warrenty ran out last month but I hadnt turned it on in six. Maybe thats a good thing. Be stupid to send it in for repair only to find out it was software.
Have to see if after my full cycle charge-discharge-charge it works again.

Suffice it to say I've been seeing this issue as of Android 4.4.4... NONE of the posted recalibration techniques seem to work and as usual, Google non-support is just as useless. As far as I can tell, once in this state it's here to stay... I've had my N10 shut down at 28%, 37%... even as high as 55%, and on re-charge (if I do it turned on) it charges to a point and then shoots straight up to 100%. I've seen the "takes forever to get above 0%" issue too... none of this has happened in any consistent fashion. I had hoped that friggin lollipop would solve this but instead they added a host of OTHER annoying bugs: as in after I restart it, the tablet goes into an optimization mode where it decides it has to re-optimize all 362 apps I have on the wretched thing. There naturally are a few others but they are beyond the mainstream of this evening's symposium....

to all of you how had had battery charging problems, please advise y you have used the "magenetic" charging cable. (It charge to a 25% higer rate)
I don't know how... I don't know why... After nearly 10 months of this behavior... I recently went through a couple of charge cycles (after it dropped to zero yet again) without letting it drop to zero.. AND NOW IT'S FINE!!!! I have no clue why... None of the stupid on-line non root solutions worked... I think that it's possible for this thing to recover after a random sequence of events which unfortunately cannot quantify because I had pretty much given up.

I am getting the same experience as most of you. Tablet shuts off at around 45% saying there's zero battery left. I assumed it was the battery going bad.

Well technically the battery starts going bad (yeah it's not supposed to... but nothing lasts forever) once you start running the discharge/charge cyle over and over again. To be sure my N10 is more than a few years old and while depending on use it can last a few days... it sure doesn't go quite as long as it did between charges as when it was brand-spanking-new. That said, and as said in my more recent post where I thought that the battery was borked, it now will last around two days with heavy use and about three with moderate use... and it now discharges appropriately to near zero warning me to connect the charger without just dying at 30-50 %... and the charge profile is a smooth curve from low to high with no sudden jog to 100% once the charge indication hits 60-65% like it did before. That would *seem* to indicate to me that this is far more a software issue than a battery one, and that purchasing a new battery may "fix" the problem but it won't FIX the problem! i.e. it'll only be a matter of time before it comes back. For all I know, some recent update to some google app took care of it...
After updating from CM11 to stock 5.1.1 I got the same problem. My N10 switch emmidiatly off at 70% battery. It was fine with CM11. Any news on this? Did a battery calibration, but this didn't helped.
I'm also getting this problem for the first time on the Temasek CM rom from 11/05/2015. It seems to have come up only since the 11/05 version.

I am having this issue (I think) since I received the update to Lollipop. So, basically it is a bit more than a year now. I was hoping a Marshmallow update would solve it, but: nope!
For installing Marshmallow I also did factory reset and all that stuff: it does not fix the problem...
My Moto x pure edition has picked up a little quirk. It shuts down for no apparent reason under really light use, like scrolling between screens. It always seems to happen right around 30% battery level. After it shuts down, a reboot gets to the logon screen and then it dies. I can do that a couple of times and the same thing happens. If I plug it into a charger it shows zero battery but it will boot and I can log in. The funny thing is after logging in the battery shows 30% remaining on the android battery meter and it works fine without the charger. Seems to discharge normally from this point. This has happened about 5 times in the last couple of weeks. In summary the same thing happens every time: Shuts down at about 30% battery, won't log in without the charger, shows dead battery when charger is plugged in, after logging on the battery shows 30% charge, normal battery life for the remaining 30%. I am thinking something battery related but battery life is not too bad.

That means your battery is getting old and can't provide enough charge for some heavy operations. I would suggest you to get the battery replaced.
I hope not. My experience is the available aftermarket batteries are junk. Not worth the effort. I noticed there was a battery thread, I will take a look at it and see if there is a solid battery available.

Mine recently started dying at around 35%, chalking it up to old/depleted battery....plug it in, it powers on showing 35%.....I'm going to ride it out until op6 (possibly pixel xl 3).
This has been happening to me for about a month now, except there is no approximate battery level that it occurs. Most recently, I pulled it off the charger to take a photo, and it just shut down. Held the power button down and it showed the battery at 0%. I then reconnected the power cable, and it showed 95%, so I tried to power it back on and it bootlooped. Tried again and everything was fine. Unplugged it and tried rebooting it and as soon as it was finished, it shut down. Plugged it back in and let it sit powered off for ten minutes, unplugged it and it's been working ever since. But, this will occur at any given time and has made the phone too unreliable for daily use, so I had to go back to my S4 until I can get this figured out. Such a bummer, because I've gotten really used to that big screen and not having to wear 'cheaters'...lol
Ok, seems like it is not a completely unique prob. I have a battery on order. I will see if the swap fixes it. Thanks for the help.

Use a battery voltage monitoring app like 3C battery monitor and see if the voltage floats around too much, if it does then it's dead.
