Not sure if anyone else has faced this problem - but I recently purchased my A1 and more often than not the phone remains unlocked no matter whether I use the pin / password or pattern. i.e. when I press the power button to show the lock screen the phone shows that the phone is unlocked even when I enable the pin / password.
I have enabled "power button instant lock", and changed it so that it auto-locks immediately after sleep; but it doesn't help.
The finger print scanner works perfectly fine; but even when I use the wrong finger to try to unlock the phone 5 times - i.e. when it should lock the phone down, I can still unlock the phone with a swipe.
Anyone else ran into this problem or have a solution? Thanks in advance

So....after a long day of troubleshooting I figured out what the problem is. It's due to the Smartlock feature where the phone will remain unlocked in "safe places" and or when the phone is being held in your hands.
Feeling like a proper tool right now haha

Dude, you just literally quoted the reason and fix. It's due to the Smartlock feature where the phone will remain unlocked in "safe places" and or when the phone is being held in your hands.
Go to settings, click on search button, type in "smart", open smartlock, disable everything.
really thanks for share this tips. last few hours facing same problem. now fixed it after reading this article.
I just wonder how did you guys configure the Smart Lock without knowing it, because it isn't enabled by default.

at some point you'll see a notification in your status bar telling you something like this:
"it seems you're unlocking your device often in this location. Do you want to enable smart unlock to allow easier access?"
The notification is actionable iirc and allows you to enable smart lock right there with a single click. But it seems that is either badly worded or people don't understand what it wants to tell them. Since I don't remember the notification verbatim I can't really comment on what's to blame here.
What's important is that google will allow you to configure this without ever going to the settings menu. My guess is that it happened here.
Thank you Localhorst86. BTW I am using Smart Lock on my Android and Chrome OS devices and I know it very well and its purpose. Your guess is right I think, I have got exactly this system notification on my new Mi A1 when testing it for a week or so. But if I didn't know anything about Smart Lock I'll learn what it is and what its purpose is as a first step. Just blindly confirm such a offer can have a consequences as we could seen in this thread

I agree with the notion that I look up something if I don't know what it does (which wasn't the case with smart lock, because I was already familiar with what it does) but I know that a lot of people don't. They have their system tell them "Hey, you wanna unlock your device less often when at home?" And don't realize what the system actually wants to ask: "Hey, do you want me to disable your password protection *completely* when you're at home?".
Another lot of people go through their settings "Smart Lock? Don't know what that is, better not touch it" or "I have never been there, that can't be the cause of my issue".
It's human nature. I can tell from being a human for the last 31 years (and definatelly not an allien from Bettelgeuse).
ciao io ho usato questo procedimento funziona benissimo

Scaricate e copiate sul vostro telefono Aroma file manager.zip | Download
Avviate il telefono in recovery
Tramite l’opzione “mount”, montate tutto
Flashate poi il file aromafilemanager.zip
Dopo l’installazione, aromafilemanager si avvierà, usate il bilanciere del volume per muovervi e il tasto accensione per selezionare, come con la recovery
Andate in “Menu”, poi in “Settings”
In fondo, selezionate “mount all partition in startup”, quindi uscite da aromafilemanager
Dopo aver chiuso aroma, flashatelo nuovamente e si avvierà di nuovo
Spostatevi in “Data”, poi in “System”
Trovate ora gesture.key (per la sequenza) o password.key (per la password). Tap prolungato su uno di questi, quindi selezionate “delete”
Riavviate
what I do is, rotate the phone (90 degrees) and that allows me to bring the keyboard on.
i m also facing this same problem........phone open without finger and pattern......... phone open only press power button and swipe screen.

Hi,
Would it be possible for someone here to create an app with the ability to solve the "only power-button activates the lock screen after standby" issue?
I'm thinking that this would be something a lot of Desire owners would see come in handy.
I would look into it myself, but not being a developer by profession my coding skills are zero. I've tried the app 'No Lock', but it just doesnt do it for me as my Desire wakes up in my pocket with the lockscreen deactivated.
(Couldn't find another thread regarding this, so forgive me if it's already been posted before.)

There is an app already called "myLock" which has an advanced mode that allows you to double press any button to unlock the screen, just don't use it with the HTC pattern lock as it messes up.
+1 for this.
Btw, you can try LockBot. It is neat, but the disadvantage is that once you get a call, the lock deactivates, which is plain irritating. If you are carrying your cell in your pocket and you receive a call, it might happen that not only the call gets answered/rejected but it can start dialing some random numbers as well! has happened to me once.
So its not perfect, but it works ok.
I just hated pressing the power button every time i had to unlock the phone.
Thanks. This is actually a usefull tool, and does the job well. However, i'd still like a tool that lets me choose a specific button for activating the unlock slider screen, as id like to keep the slider.
But thanks for the advice.

I've been using myLock for a few days now and updated this morning. I don't see the advanced features.
It's under mode select for me, press where it says auto unlock.
I believe this is what you want.
I press the menu button to wake up the phone, and menu or slide to unlock it.

I believe this would work only if your phone is rooted?
For anybody that is like me and would like to be able to unlock their moto x with voice without speaking their PIN, I have found a solution and thought I would share it. It's not perfect, but it gets the job done and only works from issuing a command through the ok google now always listening.
Prerequisites: tasker, secure settings
First, go into phone settings>touchless control>commands while locked. Enable calls
Second, create a dummy contact on your phone. I named mine unlock phone and used 888-888-8888 as the phone number. You can use any number you like but it has to be a working number for this to work.
Third, Create a new profile in tasker with the state being an outgoing call to your new contact
Finally, the task:
A1: secure settings>clear password
A2: wait 5 seconds
A4: end call
A5: wait 5 seconds
A6: secure settings>set pin/password
now when the phone is locked just say, ok google now.....call unlock phone (I've also had luck just saying unlock phone). once the call goes through, secure settings disables the password, ends the call, and then resets your password/pin.
I also have many other tasker profiles that I am willing to share. I have been trying to completely switch to voice commands for the phone so I have been doing a lot of work with tasker and its plugins. Any questions just ask.
Thanks for the post and info about Tasker. I am new to tasker and would be interested in seeing your setups. Thanks for your input:good:
I have profiles for:
opening apps, setting the volume, unlocking the phone,
automatically searching for videos and playing them in netflix or youtube,
once i get the thing to use chromecast, going to add the ability to choose big screen
starting/stopping/pausing music, skipping next/previous songs, restarting current song,
checking the current artist name/ song track,
auto posting currently playing song to twitter account,
prompting when new text message arrives to see if you would like it read aloud
with the option to respond and verify the message before sending
my newest creation:
manually set the speed limit, or when maps opens, it asks if you would like to turn on the speedometer
once you specify a speed limit, it checks to make sure its between 0 and 85, if not it prompts you to say a new speed limit
once the speed limit is set, it monitors your speed every 10 seconds to see if you are going 3 or more mph over
if you are speeding, there is a verbal warning to slow down.
if you are driving more than 5 mph under the speed limit, it doesnt do anything the first time but after the second check, it asks you if the speed limit has changed. this allows you to slow down for whatever reason but speed back up without the phone yelling at you
I am working on a smart monitor that will automatically set the speed limit based on your current speed, warn you if you start speeding but if you continue to speed, it will automatically reset the speed limit without yelling at you multiple times. same thing is true if you drop below the speed limit for a specific amount of time, it will reset it then as well.
then for those times when you leave a town, it will detect that you are picking up a significant amount of speed and set the speed limit after you reach a consistent speed.
Semi-related, I recently learned about the shell input options in Tasker. You can simulate screen touches by selecting the action as script, and then shell. The command itself is:
Code:
input tap x y
Where X and Y are the coordinates on the screen. I find it easiest to enable the setting in Developer Options to see the coords you're touching and write them down, then enter them into Tasker. You can also use swipe instead of tap:
Code:
input swipe X1 Y1 X2 Y2
I didn't mess with it too much, but I see A LOT of potential with it and Tasker App Factory to make one off apps to execute the commands and using Google Now to launch them while driving, etc.
Note that using shell commands does require root.

This is semi related. I'm not sure if a new update caused the Speak Pin to Unlock to disappear but my Moto X screen broke yesterday and I can't even unlock my phone since the digitizer broke. If I use a voice command such as "Navigate Home" to trigger the unlock screen I only get the option to enter pin and no option to Speak Pin which makes this a pain. Of course I had also left USB Debugging unchecked as well.

So after a bit of digging around and research, I managed to find and enable Smart Lock. For those of you who didn't know, it's hidden under Security > Trust Agents. After you've enabled, a new 'Smart Lock' menu appears at the bottom of the Security settings menu where you can manage your Smartlock features. Interestingly, it also features the new 'on-body detection'.
So I set it up about 3 days ago but it doesn't always work for me and I'm questioning if it works at all. My lock screen is set to re-enable after 10 minutes of inactivity so it may just be that I logged in during this time and thought that it may be working. I have 3 differen't ways of using smart lock, all of which are enabled: 1= Bluetooth devices including my Moto 360 which is always connected 2=Location, my home address and 3=On-body detection.
But yeah, as I say, it doesn't seem to be working as 90% of the time, I still have to enter my pin to access my phone. Anyone else tried this or willing to test it out? I'm running the first N910FXXU1BOC3 release from Netherlands/Samsung Experience stock.
bumpy - Anyone!?
Went out of the country and decided to try it out, was working great, but here and there I noticed that the phone gets unlocked in the pocket on second day of using this feature, my pictures and music folder has been deleted, I suspect that it happened accidentally in the pocket... Don't have any other explanation. I would avoid this feature while traveling or if you have to pull out phone quite often.
I'm also having the same issue, mine doesn't work when using Smart lock with my Moto 360, it keeps asking for my finger print to unlock...
I have used On-Body Detection and I can say that it worked great from my point of view. One thing to mention, i don't keep my phone in the pocket of my pants, always pocket of my jacket so did not have any issues with unlocking by itself and performing random operations.
But on BOC3 i did notice that the phone was constantly awake and one of the things i tried was disabling on-body detection i can see now that the wakelock issue was resolved and i'm getting a estimated 3 Days left on 80% battery. From my point of view this is more important that unlocking the phone easier
And regarding the trusted devices part and pairing with a smartwatch, i don't see the security benefit of that as the Bluetooth range is quite big. From a security point of view, trusted devices based on a Bluetooth link is not a good idea.
Its not working at all for me with 'Trusted Devices' - I use my Motorola 360 as a trusted device and it all confirms its set up. The only change it actually makes though is that when I wake up my phone, I have to swipe up to access my pin entry screen. Whereas if I disable smart lock, I get straight to the pin entry screen! This was a completely clean flash of BOC5 (Lux) all data, system, cache, etc was wiped and formatted before install through ODIN.

Are you guys sure that you're using the feature correctly?
Swiping from the little lock icon on the bottom of the screen, brings back your specified secure lockscreen. It is a way to secure your phone again, even if a trusted device or other set conditions for Smart Lock are met.
Swiping from anywhere else on the screen should unlock the phone without any security checks.
Works 100% of the times for me.
Check out this video I made to explain it better:
Smart Lock works awesome on my phone. I have my truck's bluetooth as a trusted device and I set up my home as a trusted location. Both work flawlessly but one thing I had to do was add an additional location for my home along with the preset "Home" location I had set up in Maps a long time ago. It wouldn't work until I manually added the 2nd home location.
It's a great feature.

It's just not intuitive. I didn't think to swipe outside the lock ring.
Is it possible ty by-pass unlock screen completely, when in "trusted zone"? Without root.
I'm currently using KNOX and have lockscreen disabled.
If I enable lockscreen (to check its features etc), to disable it again I would have to delete my KNOX container.

I suppose it's a matter of personal preference, I like the idea of being able to quickly secure my screen without, for example, disconnecting my BT earphones. Plus, it's more difficult to aim for the little lock icon than to actually swipe in the middle of the screen.
I am not sure about your question as I don't use the KNOX container, sorry! It sounds though as a security measure that is not possible to bypass. But I could be wrong.

Thanks for the reply, but actually the problem is not unlocking the phone, because i remember the pin, the main problem is why my Zenfone 3 seems like not detect my fingerprint scanner, you can see the screenshot, there should be a fingerprint menu, but now its gone. how is that possible and how do i fix it? its so annoying because fingerprint is the major feature which makes it a bit expensive.

I seriously don't know. If i were in that situation. I would backup all my data first. Then reset the phone to factory state. If it happens again. I would contact Asus. Or check their forums for a solution.

Probably due to root access, mine is unrooted so fingerprint won't work with Nova. Installing dan configuring Screen Lock Pro will fix this, but have to wait 10 seconds after screen off to allow fingerprint unlock. Not so convinient.

Exactly, the convenience it brings is really great. Especially if you have a 25 character password lol. My password's too long for me to enter it all the time. And yes, maybe because of root access i'm able to do that

Have you ran Asus hardware test?
If not - have a try:
- open phone calculator (stock Asus) and type .12345+=
Pls note - no zero before the dot
- in the pop-up app, select single test, then fingerprint test.
If the test result is ok, your issue is software only. In contrary, it's a hardware failure.

So, in my case, it`s a hardware failure.
I have the same problem with ze522KL. Initially finger print worked for a few months. suddenly it stopped working. What. to do?

Just make sure it isn't hardware failure by running above mentioned hardware test. If the test suggests there is nothing wrong with hardware, then switch to swipe as unlock method first before setting up and returning to fingerprint unlock from scratch.
Mine is having problem like this.
Hardware test says it is working well but when I tried to register print no response at all.
Tried the pattern lock method as well but no luck.
Same case
It's happened to me also. I have done the test (.12345+= in calculator) and it said "something wrong with fingerprint test". For this case i'll contact Asus. It's really weird why so many people having same problem like this. Actually my device has been used for only no more than 3 months. I'm afraid there will be new other problem in the future.
Dear experts,
Today I got my Mi 9T. Still trying to find my way around, but... I find it PRETTY
ASTOUNDING, that when the phone is locked, I am able to swipe down on the
LOCKSCREEN, and I see all the icons for turning on and off of VITAL functions
like ringtone, wi-fi, mobile data...
This poses a SIGNIFICANT security risk, because anybody who steals the phone,
can turn off wi-fi and mobile data and then the Find my phone feature simply
won't work.
So, what is the solution to this ? I didn't find a way to disable that menu from
being shown in the lock screen...
Or maybe the Find my phone feature works when wi-fi and mobile data are off ?!?
Many thanks for your professional comments on that!
P.S .: I think it is like that on Samsung phones as well !!! WHY ?!?
I understand your concern, the drop down menu (aka Notification shade) can be dragged down on lockscreen and it is like this on every aosp kind off ROM....
But I am very sure that the icons CANNOT BE OPERATED unless you unlock the screen.
Try to turn off wifi and it should ask for password to unlock.
Can you check it out and conform it?
Settings -> Notifications -> Lock screen notifications* -> disable "Open notification drawer on the lock screen".
* the picture/icon on the left. It's not obvious it's a submenu (nor that there's such a critical setting hidden inside) because for no apparent reason they've decided to use a totally different design language here.
Thanks. Was great to read this, however I don't have this option... I only see apps, format and open notification shade... Nothing about the drawer
Any other ideas ?

That is the one. Notifications / Lock screen notifications / Open notification shade on lock screen - set it off and you won't see it on Lock screen anymore
I found it!! Was just too slow to report here. It is called "Open notification shade on lock screen" !!
THANKS A LOT to everybody !!

funny thing is to today I was looking up how to secure my phone as I still have access to a lot of things by just pulling down the drop menu so ja since when has security become so weak and its mostly on expensive androids phones that its happening I have a button type phone made by vodacom yet its security is more secure that mine it has the ability to set users on the hotspot which makes you think that you actually wasting on expensive when the main purpose is to be secure I also punched into to YouTube and I searched for secure yet all the results is lol how to unlock any android this is insane and I FEEL THAT BY ROOTING YOUR PHONE AND GIVEN AN OPTION TO CHANGE LIMITED ACCESS WE SHOULD BE ABLE TO AT LEAST HAVE MORE SECURITY ON OUR PHONES

No such option seems to exist on Asus Zenfone
