Hello everybody!
I like my Nexus One very much, but there's a big problem for me: the "grab around" annoyance - i.e., when you touch the very edge of the screen with your thumb, the touchscreen turns irresponsible or crazy.
Please, does anyone know some fix for this problem? Some ROM (my N1 is rooted) or app, anything? Please note that I'm not referring to the very known calibration problem, but to the very sensitive edge.
I'm just asking here because I've already searched on XDA and Google, and found no fix for this.
Thanks
And you will not find the fix for this. You sould get used with or try to be more gently with touching the edge...

I have this also....thought it was just me. The simple fix is to turn screen off and back on and it seems to act sensibly again.
Not ideal though.
There is no fix for this. I experience it too, just barely touch the edge and it goes nuts. I use a rubber case now anyway which solves the issue for me.
Thanks for the answers
Wiggz - the problem you must be referring is the calibration, that fixes going to sleep mode. The problem I talk about is the sensitive edge of the touchscreen, what Google doesn't even consider a bug - only in their heads...
I fixed this by using a silicone case - the phone gets veeery ugly, but that's a fix...
What could resolve this excluding a silicone case?
thanks
Off topic but the thread title makes it sound like you're getting hassled by gay guys. Just saying!
That's reach-around lmao
I've learned to hold the phone differently... haven't had this "problem" since the first month the phone came out.
Oh, and I've never used a case, probably never will either - this phone is way to slick to ruin with a case IMO.

I don't really consider it a bug either. If you're touching the touch screen, what do you think the phone should do differently? Especially considering the limitations of the N1's touch screen. With proper multi-touch I suppose the phone could decide to ignore stationary touches at the edges, but with the N1 that's not possible.
It is annoying. The phone needs more of an edge.
And if we could just turn multitouch off? I think this would not affect me so much.
Is there some way to do that?

Yep, even if possible the second touch i.e. where you actually want to press wouldn't register.
Multi-touch not being supported by the launcher is actually the cause of this, not the solution.

Ditto. And in addition - even having proper multi-touch unlike Nexus One, I believe it would still require quite complicated algorithms to know the difference between the accidental palm touch and the "true" finger touch - and so comes the question: is that thread about being unhappy with the slim size of the N1? Come on, really. If you want some extra edge - buy a case around it.
Well, thanks for all the answers. The only solution, then, is using a case.
At least, now I won't be searching again and again about this problem. I'll search only for a better case.

So if I get a third party launcher with multitouch I will be able to get around this problem? Basically launcher apps with the pinch to preview homescreen support multitouch, right?

No. First of all, because the N1 digitizer is crap so no software solution is technically possible for this phone. If you had a phone with proper multitouch then you could write some ugly, wonky hack that would sometimes be able to guess when you were accidentally touching the screen but it would probably cause more trouble then it would be worth. Basically the only solutions to this are to either get a case as has been suggested or use the iPhone 4 solution, i.e. don't hold it like that.
Hi all,
First of all thank you all very much for the efforts put to make android the best mobile OS.
Overall Xperia X8 has been very good phone and I love it very much. But one thing annoying me is that sometimes slight tap on the screen won't be recognized. Though I understand that for this low price the level of touch screen performance is appreciable, I think there must be some way to tweak some sensitivity parameter.
I saw a couple of apps on the market to increase the touch screen sensitivity of some specific device, but what about our X8?
I hope someone who is not a "noob" like me might know the details and help us all improve our dearer X8
I noticed that too.
Sent from my X8 using XDA Premium App
No possible solution yet?
Guys please don't just vote, spread the words so some developer may feel the need and come up with a solution!
After all It'll be helpful to all of us...
i'm not acquiescent from my x8's touch sensitivity too .
i request from Devs to improve if it's possible .
very thanks
Did you guys apply a screen protector on it ?
If this is the case you might actually have 2 films on the screen, the stock one (NOT the one that comes with the blue strap on the corner) is really hard to see and even harder to remove.
2 screen protectors clearly reduce touch sensitivity.
Bye.
That should be possible. Googled now...
Conclusion: We need to incrase touch-sensor sensitivty, I think the way to do that is to change some numbers (values) and (maybe) add a few lines of code to specific file responsible for touch sensor.
This is similiar as overclocking...
Just mine thoughts...
i hope to a Dev such doixanh - the module man - take a look on this thread
Many thanks for showing your interest and for suggestions.
Screen protectors are to some extent responsible for sure. But if you have observed touch screen sensitivity on other phones, they recognize even light tap on it or even from a little far from the surface.
In fact I tried to find some sensitivity param in the system folder and couldn't, so it might be somewhere in a database or some system file.
I have total faith in XDA forums and believe that someone will post a solution...
Thanx again everyone...
Switching form S4 to G2. Everything is wonderful for me, except some small problem. I realized that G2 touchscreen is less sensitive than my old S4. On my S4 with just a gentle touch i can do everthing, i can even touch the screen with my finger nail, its ok. But on G2 the screen is less sensitive, my finger nail wont work, its a bit hard to touch everything on the screen.
Is there any method to increase the touchscreen sensitivity on G2, like on my S2 and S4. This really annoying cause my habit to touch the screen gently. Not only the S4, the iphone screen is very sensitive too. Just my G2 is less sensitive compare to others.
Please help me, experts from XDA. Thanks you so much!

....have you tried an instore demo unit? The G2's screen is built to respond the same way the HTC One's screen does...fast & fluid. I've had both phones and still have an iphone for work (not listed in my sig). I can vouch for this
One thing you can do if you're curious is try the SGS Touch Screen Booster app and tweak your screen responsiveness to your liking. It worked great on my old Moto Atrix HD and literally transformed that phone.
I've had no need to load this app on my G2 due to stock responsiveness but I'm sure if your phone is not defective & you play with the app, you won't complain again lol

Thanks for your reply. I will test the demo unit again to compare to my G2 to see is it different or not.

I will check the other G2 first, if there's nothing i can do i will try the Booster app.
Thanks for help friend.
I know what you're saying. The G2's touch screen isn't as responsive as the G Pro. With the G Pro, you can actually use the screen with a piece of wire - not saying you'll do that but it just shows that the G2's screen just isn't as sensitive. Not a deal breaker for me though.

It works on other phones too. You won't damage your screen by using this app. Try optimized setting first see how it responds & go from there.

I want to ask u 1 more thing. Your G2 can it response to the touch with your finger nail (just finger nail, no finger skin touch the screen). I test many device like GS3, GS4, Lumia 520 they can response to the touch of finger nail easily. Even the LG L7 II can also do that, but my G2 cannot.
Please check your G2 and let me know can u touch the screen with finger nail or not. If your G2 can thats mean my G2 have problem. So sad

I can't help you solve this but can ensure that your G2 is in normal condition because mine has less sensitivity than my note2 too. I firstly found this when I changed from S2 to Nexus 4. I could fix this by flashing the touch sensitivity mod from Nexus4 forum. But now with my G2 I have to wait for those genius guys I guess.

Consider exchanging.

Have you tried the app to see if if helps correct some of your touch sentitivity issues?

I also got .01. Funny thing is, i was able to get different values based on what i was doing i.e swiping vs tapping vs typing if that makes sense

OP, something is wrong with yours. The G2 has one of the most responsive screens of all devices. Many people complain that it's TOO sensitive.
It works fine with my fingernail and will register a tap before I can even feel my finger touching the screen. Also works through clothing. Exchange yours!

Yeah, but my gnex could only register a touch at .21 minimum... I'm loving the screen on this thing.
It's pretty weird..
If my phone is laying down on my bed or desk or whatever, and I use my index finger, the upper right corner area doesn't respond well at all.. No matter how hard I press or how long.
BUT
When I pick my phone up, hold it in one hand and using the other ones index finger, it works ok. Holding it in one hand and using the thumb works well too.
It's as if the phone needs to feel the warmth of my palm to react to touch... How is that possible?
I am from the middle east. It's not cold now. My room is like 25C (78F)..
I really dont know if I'm fooling myself or if it's real.. I tried what I just described a lot of times. Even tried different angles of holding the phone (Not including screen rotation).
My phone was never dropped or even bumped. I am very careful with it.
I have a Nillkin tempred glass protector which I know hurt my sensitivity in general. But this issue is beyond that.
Any thoughs?
Anyone?
Just say what you think or experience yourselvs.
???
When my phone is placed on the bed, touch reactes badly. When I take it, in the same position, real quick, and place it on my pants, it works fine.
HOW???
I can't even think of a logical reason...

I assume you have a rooted phone. With the help of titanium backup you need to disable apps which you find running under settings>apps>running tab
Find the once you think are not needed by you on daily basis. You can also disable them from the same tab otherwise use titanium.
Our default governor is ondemand which means whenever a high demand comes it will adjust its speed according to activity so sometimes a mili seconds delay can cause the issue so change it to interractive and see if it help. I am afraid you have to try out these procedures and see which one auits you.
Also, if you think its the protector then youbshould remove it and test without it. Protectors are very cheap so you must test it

The strange issue is when I'm not holding the phone (in it's cradle or sitting on my desk), the touch screen is almost dead. It takes 5-6 touches or a long press to register the touch. The strange part is when I hold the phone in my hand the sensitivity is normal (not all that sensitive but at least you can use it).
I do notice when it's out of my hands that if I touch the screen and hold anywhere with one finger and use another, It responds like normal. This makes it unbearable in the car.
I've tried the the pointer speed increase and the TSP firmware update also. But no luck.
I'm running the latest G935U rom PI3.
I've searched a lot and can't find anyone else with this same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just tried it on my S7 Edge and touch works well.
There's a sensor called "grip sensor/detector" in our devices. It knows when You hold Your phone and when You don't. Maybe some app on Your phone is using it and somehow messes up Your screen?
If it gets too annoying then take it back to Samsung and show them the issue. They should fix it.

Thanks for your response. That makes sense. I can't seem to find anyway to turn it off or at least modify the settings.
The only apps are the ones that come with the "U" firmware.
This might sound stupid, and if it doesn't apply to you I apologise.
But are you using a screen protector? Maybe this is inhibiting the sensitivity?

I have the exact opposite problem. My screen is so sensitive that every time I pick up my phone an app on the edge of the screen opens. While holding the phone, if my palm just barely touch the screen, apps will open. I've had this phone since the first day it was released and had planned to buy a Note 7 because of my overly sensitive screen. I really like this phone, best I have ever owned but I'm really getting tired of this screen issue.

I think I remember trying that TSP thing a few months ago. I believe it doesn't work with the Verizon S7's. Changing pointer speed doesn't help. I do have a plastic film screen protector. It's hard to find a reliable glass protector which I prefer. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
