Method to increase touchscreen sensitivity on G2? - G2 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Switching form S4 to G2. Everything is wonderful for me, except some small problem. I realized that G2 touchscreen is less sensitive than my old S4. On my S4 with just a gentle touch i can do everthing, i can even touch the screen with my finger nail, its ok. But on G2 the screen is less sensitive, my finger nail wont work, its a bit hard to touch everything on the screen.
Is there any method to increase the touchscreen sensitivity on G2, like on my S2 and S4. This really annoying cause my habit to touch the screen gently. Not only the S4, the iphone screen is very sensitive too. Just my G2 is less sensitive compare to others.
Please help me, experts from XDA. Thanks you so much!

Come on man up and touch like a real man!!

....have you tried an instore demo unit? The G2's screen is built to respond the same way the HTC One's screen does...fast & fluid. I've had both phones and still have an iphone for work (not listed in my sig). I can vouch for this
One thing you can do if you're curious is try the SGS Touch Screen Booster app and tweak your screen responsiveness to your liking. It worked great on my old Moto Atrix HD and literally transformed that phone.
I've had no need to load this app on my G2 due to stock responsiveness but I'm sure if your phone is not defective & you play with the app, you won't complain again lol

Thanks for your reply. I will test the demo unit again to compare to my G2 to see is it different or not.
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=br.shop4apps.touchscreenbooster.com&hl=vi this app they said that its only for Galaxy S device. I'm not sure if anything can happen (like damage to the touchscreen) on my G2 or not?
I will check the other G2 first, if there's nothing i can do i will try the Booster app.
Thanks for help friend.

I know what you're saying. The G2's touch screen isn't as responsive as the G Pro. With the G Pro, you can actually use the screen with a piece of wire - not saying you'll do that but it just shows that the G2's screen just isn't as sensitive. Not a deal breaker for me though.

It works on other phones too. You won't damage your screen by using this app. Try optimized setting first see how it responds & go from there.

I want to ask u 1 more thing. Your G2 can it response to the touch with your finger nail (just finger nail, no finger skin touch the screen). I test many device like GS3, GS4, Lumia 520 they can response to the touch of finger nail easily. Even the LG L7 II can also do that, but my G2 cannot.
Please check your G2 and let me know can u touch the screen with finger nail or not. If your G2 can thats mean my G2 have problem. So sad

I can't help you solve this but can ensure that your G2 is in normal condition because mine has less sensitivity than my note2 too. I firstly found this when I changed from S2 to Nexus 4. I could fix this by flashing the touch sensitivity mod from Nexus4 forum. But now with my G2 I have to wait for those genius guys I guess.

Mine responds to fingernail.
Most people seem to complain that the G2 digitizer is TOO sensitive.
Consider exchanging.

Sorry. Definitely wasn't trying to offend.
Have you tried the app to see if if helps correct some of your touch sentitivity issues?
If you're still in your 14 day period, exchange it for a new one for sure. Otherwise I'd look into warranty replacement. When you have a good one that works you'll be much much happier! Keep us posted for sure

No need to post any videos,it works with the fingernail in mine too.I would rather want it less sensitive than it is.But it might get a better calibration later with an update or something.

I also got .01. Funny thing is, i was able to get different values based on what i was doing i.e swiping vs tapping vs typing if that makes sense
Is it the same case for you?

OP, something is wrong with yours. The G2 has one of the most responsive screens of all devices. Many people complain that it's TOO sensitive.
It works fine with my fingernail and will register a tap before I can even feel my finger touching the screen. Also works through clothing. Exchange yours!

[Discussion] DHD - Crappy digitizer

First off, I'm not a hater.
I'm a previous HD2 user and in no way an apple fanboy.
However, I cannot fail to notice how increadibly bad our touch experience is with our dhd's. For instance, when you move your finger sideways, you'll notice how choppy it is.
Also, for example when playing Gun Bros, you'll notice that you won't be able to aim properly. Also there, it is choppy. Instead of giving all 360° you'll find segments where it just jumps over, if you understand what I mean.
I tried playing it on my friends iPhone 4, and it worked perfectly there. Very accurate.
I guess I just wanted to write my anger off and see if anyone agrees with me that HTC could have done a better job on the touch. I suppose samsung has a better touch with their 60 hz (or is it 69 hz) digitizer?
I have no issues at all with digitizer, what would say is that gun bros is still in beta stage.
I play plenty of games and not once come across any issues.
Yeah I've noticed that too when I was drawing stuff on it, when moving finger diagonally in a straight line it creates like a wavy line. Pretty disappointing but oh well, you can never have a perfect device...
I'm still happy I bought it though, much better then my last phone.
EDIT: Here's a pic, I tried my best to make straight lines as slowly as possible.
I find the touch screen perfect with no glitches or jumps in any game or app
Could be the game or could be an issue with your rom and the game
Do you have it overclocked and without general bugs? Those could be causing it
Or a power hungry app in the background making the game seem to jump
Another thought is a screen protector, when I put mine on it seemed to be alot less responsive

It's definately not an issue with the game, as I see this everywhere. It is a matter of the digitizer.
Also I am running it stock right now.
To those that say their screen is working perfectly, try flipping through the home screens very slowly from left to right or the other way around, with your finger on the screen all the time, and let me know if it follows the finger perfectly or if it's a bit choppy, as compared to when you go up and down in the app drawer for instance. You'll see about 9-10 "chops". This, I've reproduced on 3 different DHDs.
i'm using a -android Revolution HD and have no problems with the screen, i was trying to do dose things with finger and the window is yust there where i first put my finger on, so i don't see the problem here.

That is exactly what im talking about. Vertically it works fine but horizontally it is choppy big time! hence you cannot get a straight diagonal.

Agree completely. Very poor from HTC. Again.
I'll probably be shot down in flames by the HTC apologists around here...
Sent from my Desire HD using XDA App
There no reason to get flamed, we're merely stating the truth.
Surely, the dhd is a great device, but we shouldn't ignore the fact that even HD2 was smoother horizontally. The fact that a high end device cannot draw diagonals across the screen is simply crazy, seeing as it was possible with previous devices, and I cannot help to feel a bit ripped off from htc.
But before concluding too much, is there anyone that actually cannot reproduce this problem? If so, please post a picture where you can draw a diagonal (of course by moving your finger in a slow enough motion)

I tried to do this with a drawing app and I can make "straight" diagonal lines when using a swipe action. I can also recreate the sample posted by drawing the line slowly.
What this means for the digitizer, I will leave for others to pursue.
Cheers from my DHD.

Yep, when drawing diagonally in a fast sweep motion the line is drawn correctly and when drawing slowly it becomes wavy.
I'm also interested if there's anyone not having this issue.
for me, fast would be straight and slow would be wavy...
It could be bad software. I read the LauncherPro thread here on XDA, and people are experiencing this choppy behavior on their Nexus S' and so on using LP.
Bad Sense coding? Might be. Can people with custom ROMs post their results?

I wonder if it's the same with a CM7 Gingerbread ROM.

Id say that when moving fast you exceed the 50 hz limit and not all the "reading points" are used.
But it might be software related, could anyone with CM7 try to reproduce this?

It is all about software, the digitizer itself is great. I have a touchscreen pen, and I can draw bullet straight lines with it, no matter how fast or slow.
Then when I put my thumb on the screen and draw, the result is wavy. Our devices just need better handling for large touch areas.

Hmm! He's right you know. If I press VERY lightly (so only the very tip of my finger is on the screen) I get a pretty straight diagonal - but if I press down with the pad of my thumb, it's got the steps in it.
Seems like it's having issues determining which point is actually the centre of the capacitance.

touch sensitivity a bit dull no?

so I'm coming from the captivate and I feel like the touch screen on the Atrix is quite dull. The iphone4 is very obviously superior to both unfortunately.
Anyone else having some real difficulty with the touch sensitivity/accuracy of the atrix?
nope, so far I haven't had any problems with the touchscreen
No issues here. Last phone was an Epic 4G and they are about the same.

I agree, if anything it's too responsive. Almost like it's trying to predict what I'm going to select. It can be annoying at times b/c I barely hover the screen and an app launches.
For the person asking the question, are you using a screen protector? I know those have a way of reducing the sensitivity of the touch screen.
Very responsive, far more than iphone 3g. As others have said I had issues with the space bar in landscape mode but keyboardpro helped a lot.
I think one reason I would think it isn't responsive is because I can't type as fast on the atrix as I could on my inspire and nexus s

I agree that it is very dull. My dad just bought one and I set it up for him and showed him how to use it. If people think it is responsive, they haven't tried something like the Evo that will activate buttons with the slightest of contact.
Hopefully an update will fix it.

I, too, came from an iPhone 4.... and the only issue i find is that i seem to make a fair bit more typos than i remember on the iPhone 4. Then again.... i don't find the Atrix auto-correcting much of anything... let alone the most annoying crap.
Sensitivity seems just fine to me. If you can launch an app with just enough of a touch that you barely feel yourself actually touching the screen.... i'd say it's doing quite well with the sensitivity.
Yes this is exactly what I mean. I came from the captivate with 2.2 cognition installed. I was very proficient at typing on that. This thing doesn't seem to be as accurate to pick up my letter taps. REALLY hope the update fixes that and the fact that it doesn't play MP4's like it's supposed to.
No... i think it's accurate.... it just doesn't have any form of auto-correct. It has the same style of keyboard as the iPhone, in that you can slide to the proper letter... which i think is where some of my typos are coming from. Finger is not quite off the phone before i move to the next letter.
I'm not sure that I feel the same way; there are times where I don't even feel my finger touch the screen and I'm getting feedback.
Very responsive and accurate for me. However, it did take me a few hours to get used to typing on the keyboard.

Bumping this because I'd like to see if others have this issue also.
I have found the Atrix to be extremely responsive while typing--everything except for the space bar. I can literally hover my finger just above a letter and it will register, but there is something about the space bar that only seems to give me issues from time-to-time (intermittent problem?).
I'm using the stock keyboard in portrait view.

KF Touchscreen Sensitivity Issues

Hello everyone,
I have been playing with my Kindle Fire, since I got it, and I am about ready to chuck it out the window, or just call Amazon for a new one, but I first wanted to see if you guys had any suggestions. My touchscreen is oversensitive. WAY oversensitive. Oversensitive to the point that if I have to type anything into the keybaord, I will be three letters in, the keyboard will close, and I will have to start over. So sensitive/messed up that when scrolling an article in landscape mode, using only my left hand to scroll, random links will click on the right side of the page. The opposite happens if I do it with my right hand. I like the device, and look forward to rooting it, and ICS goodness eventually, but I wanted to know I have a dud and need to return it, or if there is some hidden setting somewhere or what. I am open to trying anything. Side note: I also own a thunderbolt, and find its touchscreen too sensitive, but nowhere NEAR the KF. I am making sure to make deliberate presses and swypes, and trying to make sure no extraneous part of my hand interferes at all. (sometimes even using one hand to poke at the keyboard with the device sitting on the table will still produce the problems.)
Thanks for the help!
Brock
Hey Brock!
I've noticed that my screen is a little more sensitive than my epic 4g but not to the extreme you are talking about.
Perhaps your screen is bugged or something try calling amazon and see what they say.
Also as a side note try rubbing your hands over the screen smudge it up pretty good. Does that make a difference? I know it will look ugly but maybe there was a film or something on the screen. Just to test
*forgive any grammar or spelling mistakes I injured my right hand and it is hard to type with bandages *
Hi
I have a bunch of problems too. Mine is sensitive, and its sometimes a problem not overscroll, but yours seem to be extreme.
As a way out, if you have time drop by a BestB** and try it there, if yours is the same, not to much left to do....
I've been using mine all day and I don't even need to touch the screen. If I get my finger really close to the screen it reads as a touch. I'd say that's a tad too sensitive.

They are all like that. Its because the touch screen is capacitive. My Screen at work does that.

Same here, but it's not as simple as it not registering the touch. Most times the button will animate to show I've touched it but nothing happens. It happens most often with the back button, but happens in the browser and some other apps occasionally. I've had some luck with slower more deliberate taps, but it seems like a software bug to me.

I was using my mom's so I could teach her how to use it, and see if I wanted one. Her was also not sensitive enough many times. It wasn't just that I am used to my Droid 2 because my mom who never used a touch screen before had the same issues. Sometimes it would take 3 or 4 taps to make it work. I just thought it was a bug that would be fixed. It was minor. I ordered my one, so on Tuesday I will see how mine is.
OP I say contact tech support immediately.
My screen is fine, the only problem I'm having is the menu gets pressed, it shows that it was pressed but nothing happens

The two kindle fires I've used have the same touchscreen issue: there is a jerk (along the longest direction of the screen) on touch down. Once the finger is down the reported position is fairly stable, but the initial touch down needs to be smoothed out (or the first few samples from the touch screen should be thrown out).
This causes most of the issues I've seen on mine, where pressing buttons is either inaccurate or they go down and come up without activating (because the touchscreen reported a touch down inside the button and then jerked out of the button area and reported a touch up).
I've spent way too much time on touchscreen drivers (way too much!) and this is a fairly common electrical issue, and the software workaround is fairly straightforward to implement in the kernel. It's surprising that Amazon shipped the device like this (as well as various SGX drivers issues on some apps), especially as every review mentioned it as an issue!
Anyway, once we can build and flash kernels reliably I'm sure we can fix most of the touchscreen issues.
My kindle too !!!
Because of this, I'm getting very stressed ㅠㅠ
It's a matter of the touch panel... would be fixed by software?
If this is not possible... Then I'll be selling the Kindle
I downloaded an app called ILITEK Touch Utility which appears to have made my touchscreen work better. It is in the Google Market.

Bumping this thread, because this issue is annoying the hell out of me. Those having the touchscreen not being sensitive enough, it's the same issue as those finding it too sensitive. The problem in reality is that it's ridiculously sensitive, and as your finger presses down on the screen, it's sometimes reading that as an attempt to swipe/scroll rather than a tap/press, which is why you see things light up still, but not launch.
This is frustrating me more and more as time goes on. I've tried this, which I can tell adjusts some of these settings but doesn't really make much difference for the problem. I've also tried this, which didn't help any after calibration.
Some people have speculated (or confirmed, for all I know) that this can be adjusted via the kernel. Does anybody know of anything that might help with this? It's so sensitive it's making me want to avoid the damned thing. I'm about ready to restore the stock ROM and give it to my sister as an early Christmas present.
The awesomeness that is Hashcode is working on 3.0 kernel over in the dev section. The kernel is still a work in progress and has come a long way. At the end he is apparantly going to update the touchscreen driver. I hope that will fix any said issues.

Galaxy S7 Edge - Touchscreen overly sensitive ~ reacts without touching screen!

Hello folks,
February 29, 2016 I received my T-Mobile S7 Edge, and it was bliss, but I always though the touch was very odd. I couldn't put my finger on it. Then today while scrolling through the web, I noticed I kept touching things I didn't mean to. I though, it's just the edge screen and I need a case to help mitigate this. Put the phone down on my wooden table and continued to scroll and it kept happening.
After downloading a touchscreen tester app, I noticed that I can make the phone react without actually touching the screen. Like 0.5 mm to 1 mm away from the screen. It's especially noticeable when I'm scrolling and slowly lift my finger, it continues to scroll.
Do I have a defective unit? Or is this something I need to adjust?
I've already tried the TSP Update and it succeeded, but nothing changed. It's still reacts the same.
Appreciate any assistance on this.

I tried to get as close as possible without touching it on mine and it doesn't show a touch. :/

Did you try using a touchscreen tester app? Moving your finger up the app then slowly lifting your finger to see if it still draws the line?

And nothing? Damn, I was hoping (no offense) it wasn't just me. I guess I'll have to call T-Mobile and get a replacement phone. Hopefully it's not a refurbished one (though I highly doubt it will be).

Yea that's a weird issue. Ik on past phones there was like a glove mode to increase the sensitivity. I'm not sure if s7 has it but if it does maybe it's worth looking into if it got toggled somehow

Unfortunately I don't think that's the case here.
I am wondering if it's the same issues that happened with the S6!
http://forum.xda-developers.com/galaxy-s6/help/touchscreen-s6-sensitive-t3073953
Perhaps it affects certain people's biology. I'm just pulling anything out of my hat of logic lol. I'll play with some in stores tomorrow and see if it's something that follows me around or if it's just the phone's technology.
I appreciate your insight.
Have you tried a factory reset? Always the last thing to try. You never know.
Sometimes i'm filling same thing. But most of the time it seems that I just touching egde screens without noticing it .

You think you've got issues
I wonder if it's because you are touching the sides. The edges seem a bit more sensitive on the S7 than the S6, and I notice that because of the curved back, you are touching/holding the edges more than you did on the old phone. I have to use it more to confirm if this is an issue, but I did notice it while playing with it for a few hours last night setting everything up.

I've noticed the same thing. I thought I was crazy when trying to type and getting weird letters that randomly appeared! If it's happening on multiple units then it's probably a bug not necessarily a defective phone.

He said he tried it flat in the table hence he wasn't holding it. I've noticed the same thing on mine even while using s rather bulky case.

Right! I experience it even when not holding it. I can make it happen without holding the phone and it's consistently doing it. It's overly sensitive for sure. I'm thinking about making a quick video of it but it may be difficult to see and it may be challenging to do and record at the same time.

That's what I think it is, but I can't say for sure. If it's a software but (meaning others are experiencing it) then I'll wait for a patch.

I'm willing to wait it out because T-Mobile can easily replace my phone if need be.

Are you sure you don't have any of the Motion or Gesture options activated. Or maybe even Air View?

I mean I could but I don't think that's a thing since Galaxy S6.
But if you know of where they are I would like to turn them off lol. I have slowly became accustomed to it, but it still annoys.
I plan on visiting T-Mobile and Best Buy tomorrow to see if the demo units experience this.
Sent from my SM-G935T using Tapatalk
Is anyone else experiencing touch screen oddities? or is it just few vs the many?
So I went to Best Buy and wasn't able to get the demo units to do the same thing my phone is doing. I showed the Samsung guy (which I'm pretty sure is on Best Buy's payroll) and he was surprised by it as well. He said his S7 wasn't doing it, but he thought maybe it was an Edge issue.
Long story short, I called T-Mobile and they're shipping me a new one.
Here's hoping the next one doesn't have this issue.
Don't have mine yet, but might be worth posting your specifications up. They post phone, color, where it was made, screen manufacturer, chip-set, etc.
In the past when there were issues like this, it helped to narrow down if it was a particular hardware combination. Also, a video would certainly help. Just my 2 cents.

Strange S7 Edge screen sensitivity issue

The strange issue is when I'm not holding the phone (in it's cradle or sitting on my desk), the touch screen is almost dead. It takes 5-6 touches or a long press to register the touch. The strange part is when I hold the phone in my hand the sensitivity is normal (not all that sensitive but at least you can use it).
I do notice when it's out of my hands that if I touch the screen and hold anywhere with one finger and use another, It responds like normal. This makes it unbearable in the car.
I've tried the the pointer speed increase and the TSP firmware update also. But no luck.
I'm running the latest G935U rom PI3.
I've searched a lot and can't find anyone else with this same problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Just tried it on my S7 Edge and touch works well.
There's a sensor called "grip sensor/detector" in our devices. It knows when You hold Your phone and when You don't. Maybe some app on Your phone is using it and somehow messes up Your screen?
If it gets too annoying then take it back to Samsung and show them the issue. They should fix it.

Thanks for your response. That makes sense. I can't seem to find anyway to turn it off or at least modify the settings.
The only apps are the ones that come with the "U" firmware.
This might sound stupid, and if it doesn't apply to you I apologise.
But are you using a screen protector? Maybe this is inhibiting the sensitivity?
Just an idea

Not a stupid question. I forgot to mention it in the first post.
No screen protector of any kind.

I have the exact opposite problem. My screen is so sensitive that every time I pick up my phone an app on the edge of the screen opens. While holding the phone, if my palm just barely touch the screen, apps will open. I've had this phone since the first day it was released and had planned to buy a Note 7 because of my overly sensitive screen. I really like this phone, best I have ever owned but I'm really getting tired of this screen issue.

I read quite a few posts about that same problem. I started this thread because I hadn't seen anyone with the same issues that I'm having.
Have you tried "Pointer Speed Decrease" or the TSP firmware update. Also, have you tried one of those glass screen protectors?
Just a thought.

I think I remember trying that TSP thing a few months ago. I believe it doesn't work with the Verizon S7's. Changing pointer speed doesn't help. I do have a plastic film screen protector. It's hard to find a reliable glass protector which I prefer. Thanks for the suggestions anyway.
