EDIT: No. The answer is no. To get the Google Home app working with the Nexus Player, apparently you have to force stop the cast receiver app and clear data.
DOUBLE EDIT: Though I still can't cast my phone's screen.

Not sure if this has already been addressed? I am looking for a App or some sort of control on my tablet, so that when I am watching videos it locks out the screen. My daughter is almost 1 year old, and likes to watch Mickey Mouse on my tablet. The issue is, she likes to hold my tablet, and ends up turning off Mickey. I wanted to be able to disable the touch screen, or have a certain area to activate the touch screen again. Not sure if there is a app like this? Thanks for any help!

I'm pretty sure mx player has an option on screen that allows you to lock it down while playing, I also find it to be a very nice, straight forward player that runs all my files nicely.

More than that I've been searching for an app that turns off the display completely while hooked up over hdmi. That plus Ps3 controller = replacing the wii in my bedroom. Ha
Is this real life?
Hallo Together,
I like the HDMI output to my TV from my Nexus 10. However, I would like to switch off the Nexus 10 screen while looking at the TV. Is this possible? Perhaps with an app?
When I currently switch off the screen with the power button, the TV screen gets black, too.
Best regards
Dirk
Screen Standby(root required) on the play store may work.

I can confirm screen standby works great... It has tons of options like auto screen off/on when hdmi is detected
AW: [Q] HDMI out with Nexus Screen off?
Thank you! I will try it in the evening. Yesterday I had no time. The first look in the play store is promising!
AW: [Q] HDMI out with Nexus Screen off?
So currently I'm trying the app, buy the screen from my nexus does not turn off. The first button "turn of backlight" is greyed out, buy nothing happens. I only see the messages, that the app gets root.
Do you have an idea?
Hi guys, I'm the developer of Screen Standby # Root app
Please test out the latest builds (alpha version) if the current play store version is not working.

I had the same issue in my nexus. I removed the battery once and turned it back ON. Restarted my device then and it worked fine and no more issue with the app.
im using the app now too and its perfect, even switches itself on when i play a video on hulu with the hdmi connected!!!
My nexus player will go into daydream mode but will not sleep, my only thought is that my wireless keyboard and mouse which is connected over an OTG cable, is keeping it awake. I have a few questions ...
Is there a way to put the device to sleep and lock it with a pin (the only way around this I found was using restricted profiles)
If the keyboard and mouse is the culprit do I disconnect the OTG cable or switch the keyboard and mouse wireless switch to off ?
It's worth mentioning that my nexus player was playing a video this morning that I don't remember clicking. I performed a factory reset in case my nexus player caught something. Sorry this is my first experience with android lollipop and the nexus player. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I'm not sure if it's a known issue but I forgot to mention (totally unrelated to the daydream issue) but sometimes an error would pop up and say "Google Cast Receiver Has Unexpectedly Stopped" is this normal ? I've heard it's in Beta so there might be some complications :/

So I found that through further use my nexus player did in fact sleep (my keyboard and mouse wasn't at fault) turns out when switching video inputs the device wakes itself automatically. Still though, I have issues with Google Cast Receiver has stopped, anyone else experiencing this problem ? Is there a fix :/

Hello everyone, hope you are enjoying your new nexuses. Mine has an issue tho. It does not recognize OK Google hotword until I say it directly into mic on the bottom. Video mic works perfectly well
Don't know what the resolution is, just wanted to chime in and say I have a similar issue. It seems to need very close dictation to activate. Also, Ok google stops working completely sometimes and the device needs to be restarted to get it working...
I also have this issue where I have to hold the phone close and it has to be on the home screen

you have to enable always listening in the google now settings.
Have same issue here when screen is off, have to yell or give multiple tries. I guess this is due to the doze that tries to save power.
Mama google just wants you to stop mumbling and enunciate your words! Oh and sit up straight dammit.

Are you using any launcher?
I know with Nova Launcher, I had to turn off Google's NOW ON TAP, for "OK Google" to work.
NOT is a work in progress & it was trying to search the Nova Launcher.
Working fine here and from arms length with screen off face flat down on a table/mousemat.
Am I the only one plus 5 user who cannot access ok google while the phone is locked and screen off? All the settings are enabled in voice setting inside the google app.
I have tried while the phone is charging with the original charger and 3rd party. OK google works normally throughout the phone but not while it is plugged in and screen off. Can someone test it and let me know!
Hi Kevin,
Got the same issue on mine.
It does work of the screen is on while phone locked.
However, it does not if the screen has turned off.
I used to use it like this all the time with my OP2.
Wondering if it's Google Assistant specific?
If there is anyone who hasn't forced Google Assistant onto their phone (unlike myself which had to use the US English trick) I would be interested to know if the same still applies.
same here . doesn't work when screen is off

As other mentioned the screen off/locked combo will not respond to Google Assistant (GA) commands. I can get "OK Google" to work with the screen off but unlocked which I do while its in the charger with a hacky work around. I use a combo of the Caffeine app (overrides screen lock timeout while charging) and a Screen off app then turns the screen off but does not lock. I have a Google Assistant macro to launch the Screen off app on command.
I sure wish Google/OnePlus would fix this issue at least while charging as I like to use the OP5 for home automation and can see no reason to purchase a Google Home when I already have a more powerful device which is more versatile (the OP5). I have Google Assistant (GA) set up to control my audio/video equipment and associated lighting and am finding additional uses for GA everyday.
