My nexus player will go into daydream mode but will not sleep, my only thought is that my wireless keyboard and mouse which is connected over an OTG cable, is keeping it awake. I have a few questions ...
Is there a way to put the device to sleep and lock it with a pin (the only way around this I found was using restricted profiles)
If the keyboard and mouse is the culprit do I disconnect the OTG cable or switch the keyboard and mouse wireless switch to off ?
It's worth mentioning that my nexus player was playing a video this morning that I don't remember clicking. I performed a factory reset in case my nexus player caught something. Sorry this is my first experience with android lollipop and the nexus player. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Edit: I'm not sure if it's a known issue but I forgot to mention (totally unrelated to the daydream issue) but sometimes an error would pop up and say "Google Cast Receiver Has Unexpectedly Stopped" is this normal ? I've heard it's in Beta so there might be some complications :/

So I found that through further use my nexus player did in fact sleep (my keyboard and mouse wasn't at fault) turns out when switching video inputs the device wakes itself automatically. Still though, I have issues with Google Cast Receiver has stopped, anyone else experiencing this problem ? Is there a fix :/

Is anyone else having a issue when trying to stream music while bluetooth and wifi is on. It only cuts out if the screen turns off, If I keep the screen on it streams fine, It only happens with my Nexus 7, my Nexus 10 and Galaxy Nexus does not suffer from this all running 4.2.1. Even when I try to use the Clock app and switch it to night mode it will cut out, only keeping the screen on will work flawless.
Moderators can you move to Q&A sorry
Hallo Together,
I like the HDMI output to my TV from my Nexus 10. However, I would like to switch off the Nexus 10 screen while looking at the TV. Is this possible? Perhaps with an app?
When I currently switch off the screen with the power button, the TV screen gets black, too.
Best regards
Dirk
Screen Standby(root required) on the play store may work.

I can confirm screen standby works great... It has tons of options like auto screen off/on when hdmi is detected
AW: [Q] HDMI out with Nexus Screen off?
Thank you! I will try it in the evening. Yesterday I had no time. The first look in the play store is promising!

So currently I'm trying the app, buy the screen from my nexus does not turn off. The first button "turn of backlight" is greyed out, buy nothing happens. I only see the messages, that the app gets root.
Do you have an idea?
Hi guys, I'm the developer of Screen Standby # Root app
Please test out the latest builds (alpha version) if the current play store version is not working.

I had the same issue in my nexus. I removed the battery once and turned it back ON. Restarted my device then and it worked fine and no more issue with the app.
im using the app now too and its perfect, even switches itself on when i play a video on hulu with the hdmi connected!!!
I am curious i have a hp extreme slate 7, I plugged in the hdmi cable to watch movies on my tv and it works flawlessly however i am wondering if there is a way to shut off the tablet screen playing video while watching a movie on the tv? I thought it would be a good idea if it could do that but upon thinking about it more I dont think that it will because you have to shut down the touch screen. Please let me know if there is anything already on this subject or ideas. I have a usb keyboard and gamepads to actually navigate the websites and stuff if the screen is off just havent found anything on it yet. Thank You
There's an app called second screen which has an option to turn the backlight off, the touchscreen still works but it's a lot less distracting.
Hi all. I've looked for an answer to this issue, but to no avail.
I usually dock my s4 to samsung' s smart dock at home and I use it connected to a tv with mouse and keyboard attached for basic needs. Till lollipop upgrade everything worked flawlessy, now there are some issues:
Original TW: upon connection (power, hdmi etc), the screen goes off and appears on the tv, oriented and scaled to fill the display. this is fairly good, since I don't need anymore a rotation control app, the problem is that if the screen goes off, the only way to interact with the phone is via keyboard and mouse, which is annoying. does anyone know a way to control this behaviour?
GPE: the screen stays on upon connection, but sound is not sent through hdmi, only through the smart dock 3.5mm connectior
thanks, any hint appreciated
I really want to chromecast op5 screen while its own screen is off. I got a USB c to female usb a adapter so i could connect keyboard and mouse and stuff. I've searched for 2 hours to somehow screen off (or brightness zero) my screen while I mirror the android screen but there is no such app or guide! just got p where people *****es their screen is brightness zero, not useful. (outdated screen brightness zero app on playstore don't work so pls don't bring that app here)
Not tried this. Just an idea that popped into my head.
If you somehow can get tasker to know you're casting you could use pixel filter app and set it to 100%. Your screen would be pitch black then.
That's not how Chromecast works unfortunately. It either does screen mirroring (where it displays exactly what your phone screen does), or receives a link (such as a YouTube video) to play it directly.
Basically it sounds like you're wanting something like Samsung's DeX docking station, but even that isn't wireless. There's no similar option for the OP5
