I am curious i have a hp extreme slate 7, I plugged in the hdmi cable to watch movies on my tv and it works flawlessly however i am wondering if there is a way to shut off the tablet screen playing video while watching a movie on the tv? I thought it would be a good idea if it could do that but upon thinking about it more I dont think that it will because you have to shut down the touch screen. Please let me know if there is anything already on this subject or ideas. I have a usb keyboard and gamepads to actually navigate the websites and stuff if the screen is off just havent found anything on it yet. Thank You
There's an app called second screen which has an option to turn the backlight off, the touchscreen still works but it's a lot less distracting.

Using my Acer A500 whenever I connect it using the Micro HDMI it does appear on the screen but it seems to have part of the screen cut off. The status bar on the bottom of the screen and then about the same space on the top and sides.
Is there anything you can get for a root ICS tablet to change the output?
Could it be the cable I am using a 10ft cable?
Or this just what it looks like does the whole screen just never fit.
The TV is a 37 inch HD ready Beko
It outputs at 720p. Does your TV support that resolution?? I have had none of the problems your describing while using the HDMI out.

It does support it as my Xbox output is 720p and when the tablet is connected it says on the tv its output is 720P 60HZ.
any other ideas?
I have the same issue butnot with my TV. My TV will show the entire screen but when I plug into a projector it cuts off part of the screen. I would not think the HDMI out is device dependent but it is certainly looking like it.
Not sure if you checked this, but this happened to me yesterday. What had happened was that the zooming on the TV was causing the problem. It was on 16:9, and cut off some parts. Went through the zooming options until I found one that showed the entire screen (can't remember what it was called).

on a,LG,phillips its original zise a samsung: full screen
Im having the same issue as well, 37" Panasonic LCD. Its fully capable of 1080p as well as 720. I remember connecting my motorola atrix and droid bionic to the TV and both those phones have an HDMI setting --> Overscan setting that you adjust using a slider. With those 2 phones however they problem wasn't the screen getting cut off, it was too small, and adjusting the overscan as high as it could go made the output from the phone fit the tv PERFECTLY.
In our instance, we would need that same overscan slider, and to turn it down. BTW: that setting on the phone was set in the middle by default (say at 50%), so the phone would need it adjusted to 100%, where as our tablet would need it at 0 or near zero...
Not sure if this has already been addressed? I am looking for a App or some sort of control on my tablet, so that when I am watching videos it locks out the screen. My daughter is almost 1 year old, and likes to watch Mickey Mouse on my tablet. The issue is, she likes to hold my tablet, and ends up turning off Mickey. I wanted to be able to disable the touch screen, or have a certain area to activate the touch screen again. Not sure if there is a app like this? Thanks for any help!

I'm pretty sure mx player has an option on screen that allows you to lock it down while playing, I also find it to be a very nice, straight forward player that runs all my files nicely.

More than that I've been searching for an app that turns off the display completely while hooked up over hdmi. That plus Ps3 controller = replacing the wii in my bedroom. Ha
Is this real life?
Anyone else notice this? When using HDMI out, and using the Youtube app, the full screen option disappears, and you can't put a YouTube video in full screen when in the YouTube app. When going to YouTube via Chrome, you can do it. It's very annoying. Do you think this is an intentional move by Google, or is it just an oversight?
I guess they want to implement it the way it works in the Play Movies app. The movie plays on the TV and you can browse on the tablet. Maybe they didn't have enough time to implement it but didn't want to waste time on a fullscreen option that they would have to remove later on.
I don't know ... its very annoying though!
1. Find video.
2. Unplug HDMI
3. press full screen button
4. Plug HDMI back in.
Boom. Full screen over HDMI.
Slightly annoying, but it works.

Works well enough that it will do until Google fixes it. Thanks. :good:

Thanks for the workaround. It's annoying, but better than nothing.

Except Play Movies doesn't work that way on the N10. On my old TF700, that's how it (and Netflix) worked; but on the N10, it just mirrors the whole screen, scaling it down so that the movie displays in a 16:10 replica of the N10's screen on the TV.
Is there a way to change this so that it works the way you're saying?
This was designed to work with a dock but it might work for HDMI output too.

Hi guys, i am (was) an owner of a GS4.
Once i wanted to sell my mobile.
Home button became squishy and didn't respond at all.
(Now i couldn't sell it but it worked for me).
I used a Custom Rom and assigned the menu as a home button.
Then, there was this mortifying day that i sat on my GS4 for an hour without knowing and the screen became all purple.
(Now, i couldn't sell it + it didn't work).
I looked up for a screen replacement and the price was about 160 USD.
And guess what a used GS4 cost? 160 USD as well.
So, i gave up and on my mind came up the idea to use it as a media player via MHL cable.
Now, i know that this will work. (Yes i know, that when you connect your phone to the MHL a pop-up appears on the screen but with a little fiddling on it i will press the "use tv output mode" (the colors of the screen are almost black but touch still works)).
Thus, we come to the questions of this journey,
1 - Will i be able to play videos and games on full screen when i rotate the phone?
2 - Is there a way, for the phone to operate without a battery BUT with a constant power supply from the wall charger?
Sorry for the long speech here but i felt creative.
Thanks in advance.
Ok, MHL cable works on SlimKat rom.
When cable plugs in, it automatically mirrors the screen to the tv.
Only problem is, the edges of the mirrored image exceed the television edges.
Any help?

My I dropped my S7 edge and cracked the screen so that half of the screen kind of works but the touch does not work. I can see the lockscreen but if I connect a mouse I see a pointer for a fraction of a section then the screen goes dark. Maybe the lockscreen disables it.
But what are the best way to install some app on it to be able to remotley control it from a computer without using the touch?
If I get control of the phone can I use a chromecast to cast the screen to an external screen or are there any other aletrnatives as I read that there are none MHL support any longer.
And what could you use it for ? maybee some sort of Tasker "server",
crappy game console if you could cast the screen to a chromecast connected tv and add a bluetooth controller.?
What other scenarios could you use it for?
I know this is old but I'm at this part with a Samsung Galaxy s7 I have. The screens on these phones just are to fragile. I didn't even drop it and the back got so hot the glass broke on the back with not dropping it. Then next thing I know it the screen and lcd are all gone crazy on the front. I already Samsung backed up.
I'm wondering if there is a way to use ABD to push a set up so that I can use the phone connected to the chromecast or something where I can see it on my smart TV. So I guess is there an app to upload adb and a certain way to allow the Bluetooth keyboard to connect to take control. This is a really interesting way to find ways to have fun... Just thought it would be worth figuring out so people who are stuck with broken screens can maybe use the android as a backup drive on the computer ext...
I know that anything is possible. I don't really like to say that there is no way because there is a way to do anything if we put are minds to it. . But I don't know enough about it to making calls like that. I hope someone can at least figure out so we can use Bluetooth and wireless to get a working screen on the device in its altered state.
