So I just got the ZTE Blade Z Max a few weeks ago, but I switched back to my carrier when they offered some very lucrative offers to stay with them.
My question is for anyone who got their Z982 close to launch date and didn't stick with MetroPCS. The Unlock Policy is to unlock phones that have had 90 days of paid service, but some users have reported other ZTE phones unlocking even if you didn't make additional payments, provided that you run the unlock app after 90 days from initial activation. It's still many months until I can report back if this is still the case, but I thought I'd solicit responses from earlier adopters.
I bought an unlocked Blade Z MAX on Swappa a couple months ago. I didn't ask the seller how he unlocked it but it has worked fine, been using it on T-Mobile for a couple of months now. :good:

There are sellers of unlock services that can unlock these app-based devices. The loophole used to be much wider, as prices used to be less than $5--now the service is $25-$35.
My z982 came with an app called unlocking. Is it for unlocking the phone?

Yea after 90 day of the phone being on don't think it needs to be active just needs to be on click that and follow what it says and it will unlock the phone for all carriers I have this same phone and have used it for all my metroPCS phones
I unlocked my z982 just after two weeks with metro. I used unlockbase for just under 12 bucks and went to T-Mobile, couldn't be happier, but I'm still stuck with the cheesy MetroPCS boot animation due to the locked bootloader.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news (actually not really that bad), but if you paid to unlock a MetroPCS phone just to switch to T-Mobile, you wasted your money. T-Mobile owns MetroPCS, so even if you didn't wanna wait out the 90 days, you probably could have got it unlocked for free without too much hassle.
Yes
I was originally going to put the phone on at&t, or sell it unlocked. What a waste of a phone though, Nova launcher at least has the option to to hide the metro bloat. The camera is amazing, but overall I can't stand ZTE.

I have a tmob s7 e that is not able to be unlocked yet by customer service. Is there a paid service I can use to unlock it so I can use an ATT sim?
i have mine unlocked thru cellunlocker and it works! went thru 2 fw updates still unlocked.
You can buy the unlock from ebay, search for tmobile app unlock, 6 bucks, 2-3 hours wait time.
Just did mine a few days ago, cause I was tired of waiting for tmobile to clear my phone, cause it's been on the network since release and paid off.
Its alot quicker if you use their twitter customer support. No hold times or waiting and they type in English and easy to understand. Got mine unlocked easy that way.

The one I bought said 1-24hrs I believe, but I got it within 2-3 or so, just get one that says 24hrs or so, waited this long, what's another day or two?
They unlocked mine for free I told them I was going out of the country for vacation and they temporary unlocked mine for a month and then when it expired after they said they'd reunlock it for another month before it expired which they didn't they permanently unlocked it for me and I'm on jump on demand with the device so I had no intention of paying off the phone fully.
Greetings all I have searched left and right back and forth and cannot find a post on the forums concerning this issue. I currently have a ZTE Zmax Pro and want to change carriers. Sadly Metro for whatever reason won't unlock. So I went out and grabbed some unlock codes. But when putting in the sim card a Sim Unlock Screen does not appear at all. Anyway to force it to appear?
Thanks.

That is a shame to hear. Guess this phone is paperweight now. Metro completely screwed me on their end. Told me the phone was good to unlock. So brought it to another company and now my account is canceled and phone cannot be unlocked.

I just bought a new ZTE XMAX PRO few days ago I actually enjoy MetroPCS I tether off them like couple hundred gigabytes a month, and they will sell you that zMAX Pro unlocked and they will unlock it after three months of service for free if you can't do it yourself, I currently have Z981, SM-G900P, and XT1254. Tonight I'm going to look into rooting and possibly unlocking the SIM card what the code and the unlock device app that comes with Metro is blue with a little key
Sent from my XT1254 using Tapatalk
No code needed on this phone to unlock. The unlocking process is done thru the "Unkock" app installed on phone. When app is launched, it communicates with a server, the server determines if phone is eligible for unlock. The above mentioned unlocking service apparently sends info to server "stating 90 days have passed(?) and is now eligible for unlock(?). I just unlocked another one today, phone is only 3 days old, less than 2 hours the phone was unlocked thru the Unlock app.

Sorry for sort of hijacking this thread, but I just have a very quick and simple question related to the original topic. I just purchased a used T-Mobile branded ZMax Pro that has been unlocked for use with any other GSM carrier. If I do a factory reset, would the phone remain unlocked? Thank you in advance for your help.

so if its done thru the app how did unlockbase unlock your phone, i just bought a brand new one cheap and id rather just unlock it instead of 3 months of service with metro and then im not sure if they would unlock it because its a used phone so id rather keep at&t and just unlock the phone. any info will help.
If you look at the profiles of both the users that posted about using a website to unlock the phone, that's the only post they've made. Those are just Ad Bots that post spam in forums.
Yep... Good old internet.
I'm almost at 90 days so the unlock app should work soon... I just want a carrier that I can achieve unlimited hotspot data from, like when I had Boost.

Thanks for reminding me - I just hit the Unlock Phone app on my MetroPCS Zmax Pro. I've been meaning to do that for a while since I've been a customer of theirs for about 4 months, and it unlocked it immediately.

I know this old but I'm having the same issue now with the ZTE ZMAX Pro. How were you able to unlock the phone when it was only three days old? Was it because you used a sim card that had over 90 days of service with MetroPCS?

Just wanted to share that I recently unlocked my S7 on Bell (Canada) using cellunlocker.net and it took 2 full days. That's ok as I wasn't in a rush, but I wanted to share because I definitely got nervous that I got ripped off and they weren't going to give me the code. I say this because the estimate on their site is 1-12 hours yet it took 48.
So if you're trying to unlock your S7 and you've been waiting over a day, hang in there.
And yes I am aware that Bell will unlock personal phones for free now, but this is a corporate owned phone, and they still charge $50 for that!
I have never used cell unlocker.net so I can't comment on their service. Personally, I have always used the cheapest unlocker on eBay that had good feedback.
For unlocking bell phones, non-Bell customers with Bell phones have been able to use friends that are Bell customers to get the unlock code for free for non-iPhones. Same goes for bell iPhones except there is no code involved.
Hi,
has anyone used the BYOD one year of free service on sprint? I'm currently with USmobile, and apparently that makes me eligible for this plan. That'd basically pay for the phone in savings, which sounds great, but I'm wondering if anyone else has used it? Anything that one would have to take into account taking the unlocked Essential Phone to Sprint?
i have the bYOD free year using sprint and now with the essential phone. I switched over from my pixel.
I am however getting a terrible signal and non existent 4g speeds, currently researching to see if i can do anything about this! Right now, i wish i had my pixel still...
i did byod with an essential phone... and it must have relocked it. when going into settings to unlock (while on the free plan and after waiting the required time frame) it would not unlock. i tried contacting customer support and it said it could only be unlocked by the original owner. then after more back and forth said it was already unlocked. so what i determined was putting it back on sprint RE-locked it, but their system was so messy that it showed it as unlocked.

there was a sale, sprint was selling them for $150, and you could pay it off early, unlock them and leave sprint. a lot of people did that, and then later sprint changed the terms of having to wait x amount of days to unlock them. my first one was probably one of these (got it off ebay). It might only involve those that were sold at that greatly discounted price. easiest way to tell if it is still unlocked is to put a different carrier sim and see what happens, otherwise look for something called uicc unlock. i think if it is relocked you have to wait 45 days to unlock it. I eventually gave up asking sprint customer support, and just did this https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=75994498&postcount=360 to unlock it
The OnePlus 6t from T-Mobile USA is a grate phone don't get me wrong but OnePlus should have nto let them lock the bootloader. Come one the process to get it unlocked is bad you have to get the Sim card slot unlocked by TMobile then go to OnePlus com to unlock the bootloader and I did that and it did not work to get the code from OnePlus it's been like 2 weeks for me waiting from them and calling to get it resolved. So I'm righting this to ask everyone to pleas help me out by pleas giving me a there unlock code after they use it on there phone so I can install havoc os 2.0 on the op 6t. What in and getting this code from OnePlus does not work and they say it's going to come but never does for me.
I'm going to guess that the unlock code is phone-specific and tied to the IMEI. I seriously doubt that OnePlus and T-Mobile would have accepted a bootloader unlock that could be duplicated so easily.
Your best bet for recourse here is to continue to hold OnePlus and T-Mobile accountable for the delays. I got my code in right around a week and that seems to be the norm from other reports. If T-Mobile has granted your bootloader unlock through the proper channels, and if you really have been waiting an abnormally long time, there should be no reason why they are taking longer in your case. If you have to, take to social media like Twitter and the forums where the issue can be seen by others who might be considering purchasing the phone through T-Mobile and who might be swayed to go another route.
The codes are unique to each phone; someone else's code won't help you.
Why not return the phone and buy direct from OnePlus?

Can't return the phone because I have had the phone for two months
Looks like you have to wait, then. Sorry!
I don't understand why anybody interested in modding their phone would by from T-Mo, since the need to go through the unlock process was well documented.
You could also sell it and buy a new one from OnePlus but of course you will take a financial hit.
Good luck!

The resion I bought the phone from them is because the way it connects to the network is better then when it was bought from oneplus. I know it's the same phone and antenna but it's just something that makes the phone work better and I think it's because it's certified buy TMobile. Don't know thou

Link? Because I'm certain this is not true otherwise people would not be able to use international on T-Mobile or any other non T-Mobile phone on T-Mobile.
So much garbage in this thread. I'm on the TMO version, running international firmware, and it's flawless. Not a single problem getting sim unlock and bootloader unlock (not to mention that my phone is NOT paid off), and there are many others with the same experience. Do better. It's not that hard.
I got my phone Sim unlocked within 2 days of getting in on November 1st. Didn't have to make any payments on it or anything. Soon as I was Sim unlocked I submitted my request for unlock token. By 11/8 I was Sim and bootloader unlocked. Been running international firmware since. Haven't looked back. International firmware SO much better then what tmo provides.
If it's been two weeks since sending to OP I'd be on them asking for a status and a reason for the lengthy delay. OP has stated the unlock token is 7 day waiting period and I got mine right at day 7. I'd hound them for a reason and request a unlock token asap

I am a trucker (READ: DRIVE THROUGHOUT THE COUNTRY!) who had the TMO OOS 3 WEEKS before sitting down to swap it away! Have been with the unbranded one now for the best part of another 3 weeks, and all i can say that all that "optimized" mumbo jumbo works to a degree, from what i can tell from this dude!
