Camera: OOS vs Paranoid vs sultan vs GCam port - OnePlus 3T Guides, News, & Discussion

Hi,
I'm opening this thread to discuss the several camera options there are available, so that all are informed by the options available.
There is OOS camera with HD and HDR.
There Paranoid camera which claims to be even better than stock OOS
Sultan camera, which sultanxda put a lot of effort improving the camera
GCam port that has HDR+
Share your experience with each, saying which camera you like best. If possible, detail the best camera that:
- provides the most accurate color
- provides the best motion/action picture
- provides the best low light condition
Share your photos indicating the camera app was used.

I personally use gcam to do most of my shooting. It provides the best dynamic range and image "crispness". I also enjoy how quick it shoots too.
The only time I'll switch from it is to shoot raw and manual on the Stock OOS camera.
When I'm shooting video (1080p 60fps) I usually use the OOS camera just because 60fps in gcam stutters for me on occasion.

No I have not, I ran PA 7.3 for a while, but never used the PA camera. Currently running OB17

I'm very curious about PA. Can you share some pics?

I have used paranoid android 7.3 and I have realised that OOS camera is the best in low lighting as PA camera also does well in good lighting condition.

Paranoid camera app is very good. 60 fps on 1080p works very good. It is snappy too. OOS camera on latest beta not that snappy.

What do you think about low light photos in PA? And motion pictures? Can you share some pics?

I have used the OOS camers on OB17 / OB16 / OB15
I have also used the Google camera app.
In my opinion the OOS camera app is better at low-light shooting plus regular shooting is pretty good. I have not tried the latest ported version of the OP5 OOS camera app but I am curious, so will probably try at some point.
I have not used PA. The Sultanxda camera app has a boatload of options which in my opinion is overkill for a regular user like me.

I hasn't used paranoid ever, can't help in this regard, i myself curious about paranoid

Thats my usage:
Low light: Google cam with HDR+
Daylight in raw: OOS
Daylight jpg: Google cam with HDR+
Video: OOS

Personally I'm using Google Camera for quick shots at college, but at parties or something, I'm shooting RAWs with Snap Camera HDR - because it limits max ISO to 799, where OOS can go up to 3200 (and leave you with very much noise).
For videos I'm using OOS camera - recording 1080p60.

Daytime: Stock OOS Cam
Nighttime: Google Cam HDR+ :good:

Is there a version of the updated PA camera from 7.3.1? for me PA Cam so far gave the best results regarding image detail, since it doesnt use noise reduction, or it can at least be setup so.

Even compared with OOS?

Some photos I took solely to note the differences in low light for noise and color reproduction:
17-06-22 - OnePlus 3T - ROM & Camera Image Processing Comparison - Paranoid, Sultan, Oxygen
https://goo.gl/photos/BUFDMEc4uThYXuoW6
I currently use the Google Camera port with HDR, though for long exposures I use the OxygenOS camera, and also like that one for full resolution bursts.

Just compare the file sizes of those two camera apps, the details in OOS cam get a disgusting watercolor effect.
the ones from PA cam look nice and are like 10mb bigger than OOS camera ones.

The new PA update should improve the camera app. It is possible to compare with that version? Specially in low light and motion/action shots? I like OOS camera, but in low light and motion/action shots... Could be better. I'm curious about PA in these scenarios

No, as this was all done months ago and I wouldn't be able to set up the exact same scene, and don't wish to re-flash all of the various roms, rename files, etc.
...Though I'd certainly pay for a good photographer to do this with the various ROMs in different conditions.

As much as I'm interested in the great sample photos you probably took, I'm not gonna download some random .RAR from a one click hoster. Would you care to attach the pics in a post or up them to IMGUR?
Thanks in advance, I hope it's not too much of a hassle.
in daylight.mi5s's camera is great. amazing
but you need to use 3rd party camera like open camera to get nice picture. stock camera app is not good at low light

Nice! What ROM are you using? Are you using the default camera app or third party?
For perfect lowlight photos, must use manual mode.

I'm on the Xiaomi.eu ROM and was just using full auto mode with HDR enabled. Due to me being on a trip with some friends I wasn't able to fiddle around with manual mode until I got the perfect shot -- but that's certainly planned for another time.
What settings do you suggest for low light shoots?
Attached from left are image no HDR, HDR, Light room android RAW edit super low light and light room android RAW edit morning sky. All taken using stock camera app.
The camera is quite miss or hit. Sometime the photo came out pretty mediocre but sometime its on par with s7.

Play with manual mode, ISO 800-1600 and exposure time (1/15 - 1/18sec). have you a tripod, you can use iso 200-400 and exposure time 4sec or higher.
a lower ISO has better image quality!
Edit: add low light sample photo with manual mode
Pictures taken at a concert in different situations with really low light
Standard camera app (latest stable xiaomi.eu ROM), Auto mode, HDR and flash off
I've got some more to show you, too!
Some pictures with different light situations.
I'll try and do a comparison between miui camera and snap camera on cm13

Best Camera App for Lineage OS 14.1

Until now camera is not good in lineage OS 14.1 but which is the best app so far?
this camera is not good, end of story, if you really need a great camera you should bought another phone.
Go back to stock.
Does anyone have the EUI camera app APK to side load?

No, camera Sensor is not Bad, but in lineage OS 14.1 it is not good. I think maybe if Nougat will be released official, the camera will improve and it will make its way to lineage OS 14.1 too.
Dies this make sense?

Try SnapIt camera
I dont find snapit.
Is there any other good camera app. Maybe an .apk to download driectly
Google camera is good
I've just switched to A Better Camera. So far so good, has HDR & Panarama options, easy to use UI. It does go wonky with displayed aspect ratios when previewing, but the pictures turn out good.

+1 for A Better Camera app. Works very well compared to stock app.
the best camera are 2:
1) a better camera (but the gui is horrible)
2) snap camera hdr
see you!
I use open camera. It's a very powerful app. You can adjust ISO, expose time, manual focus, expose lock. It's almost with all the function of SLR. I love it very much.
just curious. does anyone have any photo comparisons of stock vs lineage? i bought the phone recently and it shipped with lineage so i have no idea what the camera difference actually was, but i do think that camera kinda sucks. my s5 shot better photos.
Not specific for Lineage, but is there a camera app that do digital image stabilization for video?
I think the picture mode is quite decent with stock camera app, but the video mode is disastrous...
+1 on Open Camera. Also looking at but haven't yet downloaded or tested Qualcom's Snapdragon Camera. I also think the Snapdragon camera may be our default Lineage camera - so I'll likely stick with Open Camera.
Camera
I'm using moto z ported camera app. It's better then lineageOs one.

I tried:
google camera, it doesn't work;
jishnu htc one m9 (and m10) camera ports, work but are buggy;
open camera, not so great after all.
So far the best one, and i'm settled on it with my rom, is aforementioned moto z camera app.
cheers
Comparative (I'm with LOS 14.1 Superluminal Team):
Bacon Camera - https://lensdump.com/i/KKzs9
Google Camera con HDR+ - https://lensdump.com/i/KKlZo
A Better Camera Unlocked - https://lensdump.com/i/KKOci
EDIT:
Here new Photos
Bacon Camera - https://lensdump.com/i/Kz0OA - https://lensdump.com/i/KzjTq - https://lensdump.com/i/KSJa3 - https://lensdump.com/i/KS6dr
Google Camera con HDR+ - https://lensdump.com/i/KzWyD - https://lensdump.com/i/Klaur - https://lensdump.com/i/KSCLF - https://lensdump.com/i/KSTNb
A Better Camera Unlocked - https://lensdump.com/i/KzAn0 - https://lensdump.com/i/Kz28F - https://lensdump.com/i/KSR4T - https://lensdump.com/i/KSki7
Personal opinion: After a careful analysis of the photos, I think that Bacon Camera is the one that keeps the details "richer" even if it tends to underexpose the photos.
The photos with Bacon Camera are indeed "uncompressed" in BMP format.
Google Camera and A Better Camera Unlocked (both with HDR enabled) have a better balance of lights and shadows, but they lose a lot of detail by mixing more photos.

Best camera(quality) app for Lineageos and klte?

just as the title states,
what is the camera app that you found to take best quality wise photos with S5, I've noticed that stock lineageos app takes very unfocused photos and takes a lot to focus in video mode, also I tried SnapIt with works better but a lot of modes just crashes app and I also tried Oxygeon os v8 cam app and it just doesn't have many options, I can't even set photo resolution.
Please recommend me something better.
I have the same problem
I read/heard hat Open Camera is a very good one:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=net.sourceforge.opencamera&hl=en
and the camera from oneplus:
https://www.apkmirror.com/apk/onepl...e/oneplus-camera-2-5-21-android-apk-download/
regards
I now tested: LOS, CameraMX, Footej, OnePlus and Open Camera. Neither of these Apps could give me acceptable picture quality in low light scene. Is there any other recommendation? Maybe an App that is specialized in dark scenes? I don't care too much about features but about quality.

Thanks, in fact it's the best dark scene Camera of all. But still far away from Stock quality.
Made pictures of my room wallpaper with the monitor as the sole indirect light. Tested each Camera with and without HDR with automatic settings and no camera light.
On Stock Camera noise is extremely low and you can clearly recognize the muster. Taking pictures with this camera takes twice the time at least.
Snap Camera has a lot of noise but muster is still recognizable.
Open Camera has a little more noise but you can recognize the shadows/transitions a little better.
Footej and LOS Camera seem to be in about same league and far to dark.
OnePlus Camera is almost black even though I used the brightness adjuster (only in this App).
I know most of the Apps have a lot manual settings and a professional could most probably get more out of it, which might result in different ranking of the Apps. But I'm no pro like many/most phone camera users.
Clearly software algorithm of Stock Camera is on a totally different level for the S5.
While you can't see big differences in good light/scenes/situations, you can see it more as the light/scenes/situations get worse.

gcam

hey, can any brilliant developer create a super stable video for gcam like on stock camera app? i really liked that but its not possible with a custom rom or maybe there is, so can anyone do it?

Go to the Google camera ports web page and try these 3:
Xcam 6.2 beta (which version depends on your Android version) - has all features basically
Urnyx 7.2 v1.4 - same as above however it is Google cam 7 (unfortunately cannot use xmls to configure settings)
Parrot 7 V12 - unlike the 2 above, does not allow for switching to ultrawide or telephoto, however is a great cam with xmls, lots of config options in settings and is also Google cam 7
the video is not at all stable compared to stock camera

What mod are you using? Gcam has lots of mods and tweaks, I'm using Gcam 7.2 by Parrot mod and don't face any issues.
Neither version of Gcam has video stabilization like stock cam...period!
I agree at some point but to compare stock Mi9t camera 1080p/30fps/h265 vs Gcam 7.2 1080p/30fps/h265 the quality is much better on Gcam when you're walking or hiking fast the video stabilization is not that much progressive or smoother on stock camera I'd say max 5% or 10% more accurate and it's hardly noticeable but the quality drops during the video I can clearly see the image distortion and noise.
In addition Gcam is much more configurable and better quality because it is being developed constantly and Xiaomi stock camera software is not something to judge or the company is aimed for but rather quality and production of smartphones and various equipment.

Gcam?

Just wondering if there is a version of gcam that can be installed? And where do you check for development and updates these days? Had a Pixel for so long I've no idea where to go!!
https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/
considering the fact that the 8 Pro is one of the two phones in the world that uses the IMX 689 sensor, it'll take some time for developers to make a proper port for this phone.
Any luck?
I'm using GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v1.7-fix.apk from https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/dev-urnyx05/#apk1475 and it works well so far.

Yep, This version of GCAM cannot support the UltraWide and Tele cam yet.
says it need root access to work..
That means I have no luck using ultrawide and tele lens with GCAM apps...
Use stock apps instead

...
I really hope we will see a stable version of GCam working with all Oneplus 8 Pro cameras.
I personally think there is a lot of potential in that IMX 689 sensor.
I am still thinking there should be some real use of this strange photochrom camera as well.
And may be a nice manual PRO VIDEO mode as well :fingers-crossed:
Most probably I will get the Filmic Pro anyway soon.
I only just installed GCam yesterday after reading this thread .. lol.
So far played with the different modes (not lenses/cameras) but the night mode seems really good. The downside (if I can call it that), is that it appears that Gcams ability to take HDR photos vs stock app's ability, Gcam's takes much longer to process before storing? Like as you take the shot, there is noticeable processing time, vs. the stock app which seems to effectively point-shoot-store fairly quickly.

I used to have GCAM on my OnePlus 6 before and yes, the GCAM HDR takes much longer than the stock HDR but the quality is faaaaaaar better on GCAM so the processing time has whatever reason but it's definitely worth it

GCam has a different algorithm which processes many frames. In Pixel devices, there is a dedicated chip (pixel visual core) which performs the necessary computations. In other devices, it is the main processor that has to do all the job
I played around with the GCam_7.3.018_Urnyx05-v1.8, which delivers nice results. but I noticed that the maximum resolution is 4000x3000. the stock camera goes up to 8000x6000. is there a way to activate the full resolution? in the settings it is already set to full resolution.
other than that, can anyone recommend any of the configs for this gcam? https://www.celsoazevedo.com/files/android/google-camera/f/configs-urnyx-02/
How does the night mode compare to the pixel 4? I imagine it would be better because of the larger sensor
